I will start with what's good. Mr Chef has really great atmosphere. It's a small restaurant but the decor is both pretty and trendy. They have cloth napkins folded in the table, and some festive lights. Really a cute spot for a date. They have a small but solid list of cocktails. And Boba milk tea. The staff is also very welcoming. Parking is easy, its centrally located. We've been 3 times though and haven't really liked the food two of those times. Visiting from Georgia, was looking forward to visiting Mr.Chef's more than any other place. Even though they try to accommodate sit in diners, the service wasn't really great at all. This is a TAKE-OUT restaurant! The fried rice was a MAJOR let down, there was an aftertaste of freezer burn. Maybe it was big batched prepared for holidays. My rice came out cold and the server asked if I would like it put in the microwave. THE MICROWAVE!!?!?!!?!?? Anyways, everything else was great! We were super hungry so we ordered from both Japanese menu and Chinese menu. Food: Sushi- very good and fresh My go to orders are always fashion and crazy maki - fashion maki(eel,avo, cucumber and cream cheese) - crazy maki (shrimp tempura roll). I've had better crazy maki but it was still good. - Volcano sushi was beautiful but had too much spicy Mayo and sauces on it for my likely. I dug through the volcano and took out the sushi I wanted to eat - amazing maki was good but also too rich and fatty Food entrees - seafood pan fried noodles were my favorite thing we ordered. My wife has a food allergy and when we placed our order we were clear that certain ingredients should not be included in the meal. Once we got the food home, the first thing on top was the the allergen. When we called to inform them about the issue, they said we should have been called prior to pickup. We were never called and the resolution was the same item for free on a different day. Today is New Year's Eve. A quick menu item and a quick buck is a higher priority than a customer spending the night in emergency or worse - dead. The response from the restaurant was worse than the "mistake". Food and service has gone downhill. Mr. Chef used to be my favorite chinese food in the area but after the last 3 times ordering delivery I've waited well over an hour after delivery time I was given. Tonight I called back twice and was told it was on the way, then I was told it was still there. I cancelled my order. I stopped coming here for awhile now after a bad past experience. Before, The food quality was mediocre and the service was poor. This time around it is much better. They stepped it up since the last time a visit which was like a year ago. This time the quality of the scallop and sushi is so much better and the service was great. They are renovating so I was seated at the sushi counter. If you want quantity sushi go to susu and if you want quality sushi (in stoughton) than give this place a try. What stands out here, is the the salad has spring mix in it (other places is just lettuce) and the miso soup has a good portion of tofu and seaweed ( other places soup is the ingredients are skimpy to non existent). We had enjoyed the food from Mr. Chef in the past so tonight we ordered a substantial amount of food, both Chinese and Japanese. I ordered online and paid extra for brown rice and tobiko on two rolls. There was no evidence of any tobiko on either roll. When I looked at the slip, I saw the rice, which was brown, cost 6.90 for one and we got two orders. I was shocked to be charged $13.90 for brown rice! I called and the Manager was quite uncaring. Said he can't do anything about the prices, I should've known, and wouldn't credit me for the errors. He did offer to make the rolls again, but we had family here, We had already eaten and weren't about to go back to pick up the remakes. Last time I'll be going there. read more

Great overall. They have a huge menu and everything I've tried so far has been good, not at all greasy. They have an easy online ordering system and everything is always packaged really well for takeout. Everyone I've ever interacted with while picking up was wearing their masks properly and they maintain a sanitized place. I love the sweet and sour chicken. read more

2 stars solely for service. I ordered delivery and it didn't come until legit 1hr and 55mins later. It confirmed for one hour once the order was placed. This review is based on take-out only due to no dine-in option. If you are ever craving a quick fix for Chinese food, this is the place! Not only was service very fast, but the food came out hot and fresh. We ordered the Pu Pu Platter for Two and the Fried Calamari appetizer. There was so much food! Everything came out as you would expect: non-greasy, fried items nice and crispy, and beef skewers and boneless pork ribs sweet and savory. The vegetable egg roll did taste a little bland and could have used better filling. The fried calamari was under seasoned and we did not receive the spicy mayo. Despite this, we are still excited to try the many options on the menu. I think the next time we will try their sushi options. I should start by saying I understand I ordered at 7pm on a Saturday night during a pandemic, and the lady I dealt with was nice enough so I still gave a good tip.. But this was honestly the worst Chinese food experience I've had in a while. I ordered delivery from here because my usual spot (C&J in Randolph) was closed. Ordered at 7pm, food arrived nice and cold at 9pm. I'm a patient man but 2 hours ?? C'mon. Portions were small. Veggie fried rice was good enough. General Gau's chicken was terrible (my favorite dish so that's probably why I'm so sad about this) "Chicken teriyaki" was literally grilled chicken breast on a stick, no seasonings to be tasted Crab Rangoon's were actually good considering they were cold and stale, the filling was tasty It was a little expensive too, about $33 before tip for 2 small combo plates. Small, spotlessly clean, yummy sushi and tasty Chinese food - everybody will be happy! it's not a dive, it's not a big place, and it's in a tiny strip mall fronted by a gold-buying place on Washington Street, diagonally across from LaStoria just past the McDonald's at Central Street - you'd drive by it in a blink if you aren't looking for it. Go in, look around and notice that it's quiet except for the glass-wall fountain separating the 12-table (small tables) dining are from the entrance/takeout area. A sushi bar that seats 6 with the owner/sushi chef at the knife and always busy is a good sign. Salmon teriyaki lunch is a big piece of perfectly cooked boneless salmon steak with sushi rice sprinkled with sesame, a cup of teriyaki on the side (so the fish doesn't get icky or soggy) and a nice little salad with crisp lettuce, bitter greens, tomato, carrots and ginger dressing - perfect! I've had take out and eaten in and every time I wasn't disappointed. Good prices, good portions, good variety, super-friendly staff and owner/sushi chef make for a good eating experience! Bonus - they do catering and deliver it with all the utensils in foil pans for an extremely reasonable (negotiated) price . I had an office lunch for 20 delivered - the friendly driver carried it all inside our office, boxed and hot, arriving exactly on time. Fried rice with lots of pork, un-greasy lo mein, chicken fingers, boneless BBQ ribs, crab rangoon (crispy and not greasy - yum!) A special sushi platter with 88 pieces of maki and sushi included unagi, California roll, a couple of special makis and was nicely decorated with an orchid blossom. The whole extravaganza fed 25 with leftovers and it was well under 10/pp! Take a chance, look past the parking lot and try Mr. Chef, you'll be pleasantly surprised! read more

What an amazing spot recommended by a random lady I met at Target. The food and the service were amazing. I decided to call in my order for pick up. I chose their chicken with broccili meal, which came with rice and a choice of an appetizer. I selected the ir crab ragoon as my appetizer. I was expecting very small and very few ragoons and this was the opposite. The appetizer was five large warm ragoons stuffed with cream cheese and crab. I had to stop myself from eating all five before I got to my food as they were delicious. The chicken, broccoli, and rice were very nice. Not the best that I've had, but the chicken was tender and covered in a light brown sauce and the broccoli was crunchy. The best parts of my meal were the appetizer and the service. The gentleman that took my order was very patient, kind, and pleasant to talk to. When I picked up my order the woman was very nice, talkative, and overall just so friendly. Always such a pleasant experience here. Servers are local young people working hard. They are really nice and have great energy! Always so accommodating when I visit. Place gets busy sometimes but they kindly communicate that while offering water if you're waiting for takeout. I took one of my Girlfriend's here for a post bday lunch. We split cold sake, crab ragoon, scallion pancakes, volcano sushi with crab meat on top & fried green tea ice cream for $50.29. Everything was very very good. It's a little far from my house, but if you live in the area its worth the trip. There was only one other couple in there when we went (Sunday 4pm). Ordered take out. Heard great things but it was definitely not great. Posted pic of "sweet and sour chicken with steamed rice". It was put in the bag as a big container of cold rice and a container of chicken fingers. I called to say order was wrong told that they would send the sauce as their sweet and sour is just chicken fingers with a side of sauce. Side of sauce was ice cold. I called back and was told it's cold because it was in The fridge. If I dined in I would get the exact same meal with cold sauce on the side. I just got takeout from this restaurant for the first time in several years. I live nearby and I get Chinese takeout often, so I have a lot to compare this place to. The first thing I wanted to point out are the incredibly small portions. I paid over $60 for a few cheap items like fried rice, chicken wings, lobster sauce, etc. Nothing fancy. When I picked up my bag of takeout, I thought that it was suspiciously light for the money that I had paid. When I got home, I found the following: I had ordered an egg roll and a spring roll. You'd think each order has 2, like any other Chinese restaurant? Nope. You get one per order. I had shrimp lobster sauce. $10.25. You'd think you get a full sized take out container of it, the kind you get when you order a soup. Nope. This was a half sized container, about 3 inches high. There were 3 shrimps inside. (I counted). Chicken wings. There were 4 sets of wings/legs, which was less generous than some restaurants but not too bad. However, the wings themselves were super dark, an obvious sign that they had been re-fried instead of being made fresh. So someone had ordered wings, didn't pick them up, and when I ordered wings the restaurant just refried the wings and gave them to me instead of a fresh order. (I've worked in Chinese restaurants so I know this for sure) To be honest, these wings were so dark that I suspected that they had not just been re-fried, but refried more than once. So what I got were dry, horrible wings. I also ordered General Gau's Chicken, for which I paid $14.85. When I got home, lo and behold, there was no General Gau's Chicken, just an order of pork fried rice which I did not order. So I got ripped off as well, with them substituting one of the cheapest things on the menu for the most expensive item that I had ordered. By the way, I had ordered online before I left my house, and traveled 20 minutes to get to the restaurant. Was my order ready for me when I arrived? No.."it will be ready soon", they said. "Soon" turned out to be over 25 minutes. So while they make tiny portions of food, which turn out to be pretty ordinary in quality, they take their sweet time doing it. So, there you have it. The taste and quality of the food that I did get was not horrible, but it also was not superior in any way. I ended up paying quite a lot to get tiny portions of unremarkable takeout food, and they messed up my order on top of all that. Will I be coming back to this place any time soon? I think not. Would I recommend this place for Chinese Takeout in the Stoughton area? I would give it a hard pass. There are several other choices. Although none of them are spectacular in my opinion, you get basic Chinese takeout from these places and you get what you pay for. Very disappointing experience both today and about a month ago. We have been going to Mr. Chef's for years because the food was great. Last month when we were there I ordered the Crispy Orange Beef...extra crispy please...just like I always do. When the dish arrived it looked different and it was...it was Orange Chicken! The waiter was very apologetic and went and re ordered my extra crispy beef. Again, when the dish arrived, it didn't look quite right. I cut a piece of the beef and found that not only was it not extra crispy, it wasn't crispy at all! We told the waiter and again, he was apologetic, but we cancelled the order. I was greeted right away by a super friendly server or hostess behind the front register, she gave me my choice of table (hooray!). For a starter I had scallion pancakes that were to die for - these are my favorite, even though they're super basic and definitely unhealthy. The sauce was sweet and spicy, it had chilis in it. Loved it. Dinner was general Tso's bean curd and the Szechuan string beans (caution: that's a lot of food, I was striving for leftovers). The bean curd had was firm and lightly crispy on the outside, silky on the inside. It was more of an Orange sauce. All around good. The Szechuan string beans were fantastic; chilis, garlic and scallions tossed in with the sauce, mmmmm. Mr. Chef's was our standby Chinese/Sushi spot for many years when we lived a bit closer. Most dishes are outstanding, like the Szechuan dumplings and the ginger beef. The owner (whose name I'm ironically blanking on) gets to know all of her regulars and is very welcoming and warm on the phone and in person. The driver was very pleasant. The food was Cold. We very recently received a menu by mail. I ordered for delivery. I noticed on my receipt a $3. delivery fee. Nowhere on that paper menu does it mention a $3.00 delivery fee. When I call to question it, I was told "yes, that's what we do". I said the menu doesn't say it. She'll tell them. I want to start with something good. When this place was just opened, my husband and I had very good experience there. Now, when my mother relocated in Canton from Boston, and this was first sushi place I took her, because it is very close to her new home. The only good thing about it was friendly staff, so not professional at all. Our table was dirty. Napkins helped to cover it. We were waiting long-long time for 2 salmon rolls and 6 sushi pieces. Both of us didn't like rice. Rice should not fell apart, when you deep sushi in soy sauce. And rice should have distinctive taste of rice vinegar and rice wine. In this place rice was bland. Fish was too soft for our taste, but it is a matter of taste. What really was annoying - sweet ikura. Instead of being salty as all other places serve it, it was sweet like no sugar apricot jam, and smelled strange. I suspect, it was something artificial. Both of us had two globes of "salmon eggs" how waiter called them first one to be sure it is fresh, second one to proof, our tangs didn't lose sense. I have nothing against sweet ikura, but want to be warned about it. Of course, so, we didn't eat them, price was not taken from bill. Another upsetting thing was ceiling. Leaking roof spots must be fixed and ceiling spots covered ASAP in any place, especially in restaurant. Temperature was so low, that couple other customers and we were in coats. Mr. Chefs food is always delicious! Everything! The Chinese and the Japanese. The Sushi Chef sometimes when they're not too busy give you an opportunity to sample some sushi while you're there. And their food is always still hot and fresh when they deliver. They're worth the trip or a phone call. If you're trying sushi for the first time or giving it a second chance, I highly recommend trying the cooked sushi or veggie sushi options first to break yourself in. Enjoy! read more
