Visiting from Seattle and wanted teriyaki. To be fair, modern teriyaki was created in Seattle by Japanese native and immigrant Toshihiro Kasahara, AKA Toshi (see https://www.seattleweekly.com/food/how-teriyaki-became-seattles-own-fast-food-phenomenon). We have teriyaki on practically every corner in Seattle, and some of us have been lucky enough to dine in the presence of Master Toshi himself on many occassions. He and his wife run a small shop just outside Seattle proper now that still makes his masterful teriyaki (and poke is the new food rage in Seattle now). This teriyaki was not that. I even posted a pic of Toshi's famous teriyaki so you can see what he invented. This, instead, was more of a stir fry dish with onion, squash, and mushrooms, along with the barely grilled chicken. It wasn't very flavorful. It was too salty. And it wasn't teriyaki. The seaweed salad also lacked the zip I expect from that dish, and the gyoza were kind of average and very small. Won't be going back. And I'll have to go visit Toshi when I return from this trip. read more

Delicious food and amazing customer service. I got the Hibachi Filet Mignon and The Shinrai roll. I substituted spicy Mayo for eel sauce. My hubby got the steak hibachi and my son got the Chicken Yakisoba. Even though we came towards the end of the night, near closing (unintentionally) we were treated just the same. We read the hours for the weekend by mistake. Everything was amazing and we will be back! I live in Murphy and wanted to eat here for a long time. So the wife and I gave it a shot. Very disappointed. I gave it 4 stars. But it really should be 3.5 stars. SERVICE: It seemed to be run by teenage kids. They could not answer questions about items on the menu and were very inattentive (at least the ones we encountered). Dine-in seating is available and nothing is on the tables????? The worst part is the quality and portions of the sushi. The picture shows a big glob of rice with a thin and short piece of tuna (both pieces) and the same with the smoked salmon sushi. The Philadelphia Roll had very little smoked salmon and was stuffed with an abundance of cream cheese and cucumber. Neither was worth the price. My family and I have been eating at Shinrai since it opened in our area. Overall, the food is plentiful, good and very good priced. Some of our favorites are the filet mignon hibachi, yakisoba noodles, volcano roll with crawfish, Shinrai roll, and tempura shrimp appetizer. The workers are always friendly. These are important qualities to me in a small restaurant. I see low star reviews and would suggest that if you want better food, go pay more at pricier restaurants. Ordered to go the teriyaki chicken with fried rice and a few sushi rolls. The sushi was not great quality. The rice was bland and the fish was not good. The teriyaki chicken wasn't bad however, the fried rice was just white rice they put soy sauce on it was not fried at all. read more

Let me be very clear - I really want places like this to succeed. The restaurant business is one of the hardest to be in and I try to frequent places like this. In the end, it's all about the Food - otherwise you wouldn't go out at all. You can have a hole in the wall in a lousy location with terrible service - but, if the food stands out you will succeed. Sure - it's preferable to cover all the bases - but it comes down to the Food. Following my new requirements about multiple visits, we now have an opinion on this place. Located in a strip mall with several other options, it is a clean, organized place. Friendliness seems to be OK and service (mainly takeout it appears) is on point. The focus here is Sushi - which ain't my bag. But they do have options which interested me. So, this may be a great Sushi place - I just wouldn't know. We tried the Hibachi and rice dishes - Steak and Chicken versions. The chicken was the dark meat option. Both were pretty good but the rice, while plentiful, was somehow not as good. It may be the fact that it was takeout and didn't travel well. However, didn't find either dish outstanding - have had much better - so maybe a 3 star at best. Came back (later) for Chicken Fried Rice - sort of a staple at our house. Major failure! Chicken was way over done - completely rubberized, hard to chew much less swallow. How about some veggies in the rice? Had we been eating in we would have turned it back in! I note good Sushi reviews - but find I cannot usually rely on most Yelp reviews that throw 5 stars all over the place. So, if you can't handle Chicken Fried Rice.... My base standard is if I can make it as well at home, you can get a max of 3 Stars. 4 & 5? You better have something special. SO - 2 Stars at best - and I'm being generous. Not only was everything delicious, they stayed open for me! I was 30 minutes away and called to see if they would be able to stay open for at least 5-10 minutes so I could pickup my order. They willing without hesitation, stayed open and greeted me with a smile upon arrival. Definitely a return customer! read more

I really wanted to like this place, and I'm open to changing my review once I'm able to eat there in person. This review is from a Postmates order that we made in late 2020. We have recently been searching for quality Japanese restaurants in the area and were excited to try Shinrai. When we received our food, it fell far short of my expectations for quality Japanese food which is usually fresh and light. I ordered the shrimp tempura box. The shrimp did not seem fresh and the tempura breading was greasy and seemed over/cooked. The onion ring looked like it had been fried in old grease and poorly bartered. I ordered white rice, but received fried rice which is normally fine, but it was stale and seemed like it had been cooked hours before. The California roll was fresh, but the ginger was dehydrated and stale like it had been out for over a day. This is by far the most disappointing bento box I have had at any restaurant. I hope it is because it was delivery and not their usual quality. I may come in person later down the road, but this experience makes me not want to eat from here again. Shinrai team: please take this to heart as I'm sure you want to create quality food and this seems like it should be far beneath the standards I see from other reviews and what I see on your website. read more

This was my first time coming to Shinrai, I didn't really know what to expect but I did know I was hungry and craving a bento box. I ordered one with shrimp, and it just didn't really hit the mark. You get a lot of quantity for the price but the quality isn't there. The rice I got was fairly stale, and the shrimp a little over cooked. The spring roll and fried veggies are good and light, but the giant onion ring threw me off. I personally don't like California rolls but it was average. The place is a little empty, but the staff is very patient and friendly, so that's a plus in my book. You can order take out over the phone and they also deliver. I'd recommend coming here if you want a quick and cheap lunch. I left full but not entirely satisfied. I'll give Shinrai another shot in the future, maybe try something else and bring some friends to hangout and eat with.. read more

This place is fantastic! Great food at great prices. You get much more than what you pay for. The teriyaki salmon was fantastic. the food tastes exactly like the hibachi Japanese restaurants that sell way too much overpriced food. You get the same quality food, just in a much better portion and a MUCH better price. The staff is wonderfully friendly, the atmosphere is clean and inviting, and they play great music. When I come here I usually order the miso soup, Cajun roll, and the California roll. The miso soup is delicious and they give you ALOT of it for just 2 bucks. Sometimes I get almost full just from consuming the soup. Most restaurants that serve miso soup give you a small amount and it is upsetting. However, not the case here. The rolls are good, however I have found parts of the seaweed (Nori) a bit chewy, and difficult to consume. I think it's a bit chewy because it could be a cheaper value of seaweed. However, the miso soup makes up any slight disappointment. read more

Pretty good way to run off customers, it's 9:05pm, they close at 10pm but have the chairs all up along the side & an employee is mopping the store like they are closed. We thought it was a fluke last time we sat there 30 min before closing eating and they started putting chairs up & pulling out the big utility mop, but tonight we came to eat & saw this. Decent little hole in the wall place. Haven't been here in 3-4 years, but back then i had the yakisoba and it was good from what i remember. Today I had the Cajun roll and a seaweed salad, both which were very tasty and fresh. The atmosphere is very casual and laid back, good for lunch with friends. Service was decent, however I was with my mom on this visit and she ordered the teriyaki chicken and they brought out my food about 15 minutes before hers instead of all together which was annoying (I understand they needed to cook hers but they could've waited to build my roll). I ordered the Steak and Chicken Hibachi. After tasting the chicken I removed any chicken I could find from my tray because it was not appetizing. Low quality, collapses upon chewing, overall not good. The steak, however, was delicious. Great taste throughout the meat. Overall, this is a great place to eat from if you live nearby. I like the food its decent. Its not a hibachi. More of a fast food joint. I typically order pick up but i didnt have my car today so i decided to order delivery....... i wasnt so happy when i opened the bag. Either he just threw it in the car and didnt care, dropped it, idk. But the sushi roll was a mess. The ponzu or soy sauce spelt all over the bag with nothing left in the container. My bento box wasnt a bento box anymore. More like A HOT MESS. I know its a rainy day and im sure theres alot of deliveries. I could always microwave the food. But can it atleast be all in one place and neat. Lol I MEAN MY LID WAS OPEN WHEN I GOT IT. Im glad i didnt spill the food.. DELIVERY IS A MESS I'll do pick up from now on. read more

The tribe had their fill of the new traditional cow and pig so Mother of Cashew wanted sushi so sushi it is on a Sunday night. We packed up the tribe of 5 with the one year old, Cashew, who had earlier had a meltdown for breakfast. I ask myself, self, what are the odds that can happen again...and the voices answered surely not again ( insert image of water residing before Tsunami). We arrived and you have 2 tables available due to Covid so we decided to stay. The tables are not family of 5 friendly. It could be observed that the cooks were working hard and you can see a lot of traffic with Uber Eats customers. The Mother of cashew had her 2 rolls, kids had chicken and fried rice and i had chicken with beef and rice. The drivers kept picking up their orders while we waited. The rolls arrived for Mother of Cashew as she kept the savage one at bay. The drivers kept picking up then the boys meal arrived. Tick Tock it kept going and no meal for me yet drivers were on point. The cashier noticed I didn't have meal and family was almost done so I thought its ok Im a fat guy I can wait. The cook came out and pulled a meal from the mass production and gave it to me. The rolls were good for Mother of the Taz yet the boys and my plate had average taste for the meal. The meal was $35 for us four yet it might be a while before we return. read more

For fast food its ok but greasy. The rolls are Ok but there are much better places in Murphy for that.

We love Shinrai. Teriyaki Chicken Is wonderful. Fried rice is a favorite along with California Roll. Great place!

We have picked up food from this restaurant for three or four times now and it's excellent food! We especially like the bento boxes. We have eaten the tempura shrimp, and the chicken. We really like the fried onion and the fried yam that come with the bento boxes also. The spring rolls are also very good. Highly recommend. read more

Best local sushi in the area! Favorite roll is the volcano with crawfish. Try the ahi tower. Not on the menu but so good!
