The place we wanted to go to was closed, so I suggested here since it's one of the last old school, local bar, where everyone knows your name...or will at some point. First off, great parking lot! Plenty of spaces! I kinda don't want to say how great this place is or how much fun we had because I don't want it to be spoiled by tourists or hipsters. When I walked in, I did get the side glance from the locals, "eh, who dat?" Cat got the same thing too...LOL! I had read about them in the Honolulu magazine, so I wanted to check them out, and I'm so glad we did! via text Cat: order chicken wings Me: no can...but they have chicken gizzards... Cat: pork belly? Me: no...but fried pork chops... Full bar and bottle beers...no drafts. Pupu menu is very local, I mean, they serve vienna sausages...which we ordered and were so good!!! We did order the pork chops, fried perfectly and sliced with bone on plate, the chicken gizzards which was my first time, and were nice and crispy, although for myself, a little chewy. Loved the lumpia and the fried saimin! But my favorite was the spam and egg sandwich...two soft hamburger buns with nice crispy spam and lots of mayo....sooooooo good!!! Cat: Let's do shots! We asked the bartender, Patty, and she made us the Phil and Val shots....butterscotch Jameson! These were amazing! Smooth...a little sweet... cuts that Jameson bite! Come to find out, Phil and Val were there, so we did another round for the bar in their honor because they met here 14 years ago! There was a group of aunties there who must have been in choir together because they all were really good singers, either solo or as a group. Lots of guys coming in who jus pau work. We also did shots because it was my last night and what a way to end my trip! Mahalo Shinso Tei! Until next time!

My friends wanted to come here so I tagged along and found out they have karaoke. It's $2 per song so kinda pricey and the microphones weren't the best. The booth seats had large cracks in them so my legs were a bit raw once we stood up. The food menu had some interesting things like vienna sausage, and they were out of fries. We tried the fried somen with green beans deluxe at the recommendation of the server. It was a bit spicy and tasty, but not worth the price. They charge separately for the noodles and the beans/meat topping, so every portion is close to $30. The best thing we got were cheeseburgers. Simple, cheese and mayo, but the burgers were juicy (2 for $8). We also got steak with onions, fried pork chops, and some had drinks (full bar). Not dying to go back, but the food was ok, service was very slow, ambience was very dive bar-y.

Yes, it's a hole in the wall, or rather shopping center, but you cannot beat the atmosphere! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by regulars who said "come, sit at the bar, seats open"! The amazing bartender/ (owner I think) took our order and served up drinks and "talk story" about the games on TV & some other local people and things. Food came out and as the reviews said, it was spectacular! We had the famous Green Beans with crispy shrimps, lumpia & spicy fries. Now, I don't know what's in the green beans but man! I gobbled them down faster than Jon could. As for the photo of the spicy fries, sorry ate em' too fast. Definitely might become a regular... thank you Shinsho!

I come here for the Somen noodle & string bean deluxe! It's always busy with regulars but if you can manage to get in at the right time it's so worth it. The vibe is chill, laid back and the staff is super friendly.

This is a cute little bar! Really small ...maybe 8 or 9 tables and like 10 bar stools?? It's amazing how many people they fit in this place and everyone is very friendly. Food menu is super basic ....my friend ordered bacon! Like just a plate bacon!! I had to order a side of rice. I saw other things on the menu like 2 can of Vienna sausage, or green beans. Prices are reasonable and they have some real good singers in the crowd. It's a fun place as long as you keep your expectations in check.

It's Friday which means the Shinsho peer pressure is going to be real. . . Shinsho is my colleagues favorite watering hole for a number of reasons . . . 1. Reasonably priced STRONG drinks (I always order Titos soda but my counterparts get beers and shots by ROUNDS) 2. Pupu (porkchops, green beans, FRIES (spicy), veg platter) 3. $1/song karaoke (entertainment for daysss) 4. Plenty parking (until Starbucks moved next door) 5. Excellent vibe (so many regulars and just nice people in general) 6. The service (you will never have an empty glass) 7. Clean bathrooms (um, this is important!) Come early because there are only a few booths and stools at the bar.

Came here because we didn't want to drive into downtown and deal with parking. Great clean bar with very nice people. And here's the plus...the ladies room is c-l-e-a-n! Neat and tidy. A plus on this size of a bar. Local neighborhood bar is worth to check out for karaoke and fun. No private rooms. Old school feel. Tuesdays are the most quiet and leisure. Weekends I'm told is packed!

Shinsho Tei is conveniently located in the Nuuanu Shopping Plaza just mountain of Downtown. There is ample parking and the restaurant is relatively easy to find on the Diamond Head side of the shopping plaza. We popped in because a friend of a friend works there and she wanted to say hi. Unfortunately she wasn't going to be there for another 2 hours so we just had one drink and left during this time I was able to look around the restaurant and see that many of the local regulars sing karaoke from their seat or table looking up and one of many screens that are playing well showing the words. At first glance I thought this place was from Jodie Foster's movie THE ACCUSSED but as soon as the friendly waitress came by to take our order my crazy thoughts had been dispelled. Like for a couple of minutes it sure looked like it though. If you're looking to eat really local food, see the pictures I took of their menu, I think most can be prepared with a can opener & water, then look no further! This could be your bar!

I obviously didn't plan this lol So we called a few places and I remembered seeing Hawaii Voice on the news and I was always inteigued about the experience of this place. We called and they could accommodate us right away. We headed there and they had the beautiful room all ready to go. The room was huge and clean! Decorations were colorful and bright. The couches were very comfortable and clean. The TVs were HUGE! They were the biggest screens I've ever had for karaoke. The system has plenty of features, and for some, it may be "too much". They offer they're own karaoke catalog system, an older karaoke system (no videos, just lyrics), and YouTube was also integrated. One of the karaoke systems was cool cause you could see the music videos and can sing along. The only thing we noticed for some songs, the synchronization of music and lyrics were off so just make sure you know the song, otherwise, you're gonna be a beat behind. Also, the YouTube system didn't allow ANY song to be sung. The system didn't support some well-known karaoke channels because of the video formats. Lastly, the choice of Japanese songs was bare, but that's not really a problem if you don't sing Japanese songs. They have drinks and food, but we only ordered drinks because we already ate...and we like alcohol. They had a fairly good selection for hards and beers. Sorry, I cannot give an opinion on food. Staff is awesome. We met the owner and he treated us so well. To squeeze us in on a Saturday was a treat, and also a lesson to us on better planning (well, my friends, not me because this wouldn't have happened lol). If you wanna sing karaoke with friends and let out some energy, give this place a try! It's beautiful and will make any karaoke experience fun!

I booked a Large Room for my 12 group party. Upon arriving the man (unfortunately I didn't get his name) told me that my reservation is for 3 hours and if I wanted to extend, I could just let them know. Perfect, sounds good. Emphasis on the **I** could let them know if I wanted to extend. Any karaoke place that you go to, you're losing track of time having fun with your friends. Before you know it, we had gone to the 4 hour mark without anyone coming to inform us or give us a heads up. My friends went to the front desk to close my room tab and were told that because we stayed longer than the reservation time, we would need to pay extra. My friends then questioned "but no one came by to tell us that we were at the time yet". And another guy (also didn't get his name) said- "we only come to warn you if we're busy, but if it's a slow night, it's on your own to remember". Idk that's just pretty shady and bad business in my opinion. I then we out, not knowing the conversation that occurred when I was absent, and questioned again why I was paying for 4 hours if my reservation was for 3 hours and no one came to warn us that we were already past our time. Both men just looked down at their computers and refused to speak to me- I stood there for a good minute waiting for one of them to give me some type of answer, and didn't get anything. Yes I understand we're all adults, but just the fact that the type of environment makes you lose track of time- I just feel taken advantage of and I'm sure I'm not the only one who this has happened to. I just wish they had informed us of this "rule they have based on their level of busy-ness" ahead of time. Because any other karaoke place will warn you when it's almost time to leave. Ended up paying $551 for the 4 hours of singing. Their only saving grace and why they aren't getting 1 star is that they are BYOF (bring your own food).

I've been here twice and my opinion it was fun but very interesting place. Recommended by my older brother who frequents Cafe Den Mau often. Located at the Yee Hop Plaza on North King Street, same building as Hawaii Dim Sum & Seafood, (after our dinner there) we went straight up to the 2nd floor. Note getting to Cafe Den Mau is a little sketchy, scary in the building but once you arrive its not as bad after all. hehe. You will enter a long corridor, the 2nd floor looks abandoned, old, but there are other businesses in this plaza. The size of Cafe Den Mau is small but perfect, there are a few tables, even a stage with disco lights, drums, and piano. Kind of like in Vietnam although I haven't been but this is what I heard from another customer. husband Jimmy and wife team runs the karaoke spot from 9-2 am nightly. ( best to call if you plan to visit, have questions, or would like to reserve a table or private party.) limited drinks, mostly beer and wine are available, free to bring wine with a fee. ( $20.-30) per bottle. We brought 3 bottles during my first visit with my siblings. You can also bring pupus. Selecting songs are easy, all digital. All songs are available, both our visits, seems like we all were happy with selecting our song choices. We all enjoyed ourselves, first time experience. We even went up to the stage to sing, dance and receiving fake colorful flowers with $1.tip. Fyi, If you do receive flowers with tip, that will belong to the owners. It goes back in the bucket for the owners. hehe. We visited the 2nd time with friends ( 2 Fridays in a row) the same impression, getting to the Karaoke spot, seeing the impression on their faces ( sketchy) but they actually had a great time singing, hanging out, observing the other party that was there. We bought 4 bottles of beer this time, didn't BYOB but I brought chips, dips and some desserts to snack on. The Heineken were $6. and Corona were $8. All in all, first time visiting a Vietnamese Karaoke bar and we will def. be back! Parking available in the back of building's private lot, after hours no need to pay the meter or street parking I know you wouldn't want to park on the street due to the homeless situation at Chinatown.

I actually had no idea that they had karaoke here-- I thought it was just a Korean restaurant, but the "Báng" here I am guessing corresponds to 방 in 노래방. All were tasty and paired well with whatever drinks we ordered, which included flavored soju. Servers were quick to check in on us and bring our orders. The mechanic of karaoke here is that you pay for each song, which forces one to be more intentional with singing, but at the same time makes on less stressed about cramming in music within a set amount of time. Their oden soup was really good. And their tacos were actually not bad- a little odd with some flavors but they were overall good. Fried mandoo slaps.
