I don't know how this place does it but when you order, your food is ready and literally under 10 minutes. And it's delicious every single time. I live near downtown Royal Oak and have the ability to get to shintai very quickly to pick up my orders and it used to be on hit the submit button and then wait around for a few minutes before jumping in the car. Lately, Ive created a challenge for them; when I hit the submit button I immediately leave my home and quickly but safely drive downtown park nearby and by the time I open the door it is ready every single time. I came here specifically for the hot wings. I was in Royal Oak for a meeting and stopped for a takeout order. You get five tasty wings for $6. The wings are not spicy at all but have a Thai chili sauce on them. My order was takeout so I'm sure the wings are even better when eaten in the restaurant. I think they deserve a proper 2.5 stars. But I get annoyed with the low standards of suburban peoples. This place does not deserve 4 stars. I had to give it a 1 to bring justice to the food universe. Door has a sensor to activate the old school ding dong sound of yester year. It is a cafeteria style in that you order your food at the counter and are given a number. We got the wobbly table in the corner by the door, nothing could be done to fix it either, except maybe buy a new sturdy table next time. After sitting at the table several minutes someone came by to let us know there are no true servers, we have to order at the counter. We ordered the pad Oak E7 with scallops and medium plus heat and with no corn and more peapods. Also ordered a pad Thai N1 with steamed tofu and medium plus. Has a small dining area, but slightly bigger than when it was running at Thai Cafe, there are only about 7-10 tables dependent on the configuration and 4 counter high tops. The wobbly table made it precarious eating my soupy pad pak dish, it had so much runny liquid sauce in it, too much that I was concerned with getting it all over my white striped sweater. I was in the clear until the end when a veggie dropped off my fork and landed into the soupy plate and then I wore it the rest of the meal and walk to the house. Super! The pad pak sauce was fine, but the cabbage, broccoli and carrots could have been cut up more; they were more of a rough and thick cut, which would be better suited for a stew than the pad pak dish to me. Really great neighborhood Thai spot! I don't know how I never made it into their original location but I'm loving this new restaurant. It is set up like a "noodles" concept. Walk in and order and they give you a table number and bring the food over to you. Amazing! My go to Thai dish is drunken noodles but I was feeling adventurous when my husband and I came here. I decided to go with tofu and vegetables in a red curry coconut sauce. WOW! Let me start by saying I cannot handle spice and was very nervous because red curry is known to be spicy. I loved my dish so much I could have DRANK the sauce! Everything about it was delicious and fresh and I was blown away. My husband ordered the chicken pad Thai with mild+ spice. I didn't try it for fear of it being too spicy, but he really enjoyed it. The food is excellent. When i love something i typically stick with it so i usually get chicken drunken noodles, chicken basil fried rice, and chicken pineapple fried rice(all medium spice). The food is consistently good, fresh and hot. They make your food quick as well. The portion sizes are good as well, you have the option to choose lunch or dinner at certain times of the day. The restaurant is always clean and organized. People are always dining here and door dashers are always picking up orders. The neighborhood is safe and clean as well. Legitimately feel bad giving a one star review during COVID, but we ordered once before ~2 years ago and it was just as bad. Decided to give it another try because our usual Thai place was closed and deeply regretting it. The first time we got a few things, I mostly remember the peanut curry being overly sweet -- it tasted like a peanut butter dessert. I don't quite remember what else we got but it wasn't memorable... Or at least not in a good way. This time around we got spring rolls, tofu pad thai, sweet and sour tofu, and massaman curry. The pad thai is severely lacking in flavor and spices. The curry almost tastes like it's old or something's gone bad? It's inedible. And the sweet and sour had about 10 pieces of tofu, the rest is practically-raw vegetables in watery sauce. The spring rolls clearly come in frozen and weren't cooked through, they were doughy and cold in the middle (when everything else came hot). Thought the first time was a fluke but definitely won't be giving them a third try. read more

Love this place! There portions are nice and big and the food is so flavorful. It is my go to Thai spot in Royal Oak. They have a little outdoor patio - eating outdoors is my fav. However, they are located next to a hookah lounge which also has an outdoor patio so there was constant hookah smoke blown in the faces of myself and my nieces. Using delivery through Yelp/Grubhub, even on Valentine's Day the food was delivered early and hot. The flavours of this restaurant are very good. I ordered hot and I had an appropriate level of spice. Tried SHINthai for the first time this week and I will for sure be back. The Pad Pak was really flavorful and fresh. Pad Thai with beef was also very tasty and spice level was spot on when ordering medium. The portions were substantial too. Another point to mention was that it was ready on time from the quoted time when I orders. the only small draw back was the order of spring rolls. they were nice and crispy on the outside , but i found the inside to be pretty mushy and not too flavorful. Got take out from here on a week night. I got the Pad See Iew and we also got the green curry, spring roll and Tom yum soup, as well as a Thai iced tea. Everything was delicious, particularly the noodles. The green curry was also a very large portion that we had enough to save it for another meal. Overall, it was a quick and easy experience which is all we can expect from takeout. The service over the phone was nice to talk to and the food was promptly ready within the 15 minutes when we got there. Tastes like white people made it (to seem less racist, I'm white as hell myself). Opted for peanut curry, vegan pad thai, and spring rolls. The spring rolls were the best part, and the likelihood they were freshly made is roughly 7%. The peanut curry just tasted like PB2, water, and a quarter cup of sugar. Nothing else going on there. Vegetables were fine and all, but yeah... bland. No acid, no heat, single note of flavor. The pad thai was more of the same, but a bit better. Their vegan fish sauce made it better than the peanut curry, but it was more of the same for the most part, with flavors predominantly being sweet peanut butter. The noodles were also strangely.. minced? Odd. Overall, a snooze fest. Again, the spring rolls were alright. Crispy with a celery-forward flavor. Thankfully they also had some saltiness to them, because nothing else did. To top it all off, I ate it all wasted. It may very well be a 1/5. Who knows. Regardless, my dudes need to work on flavor profile, because this was one-note as fuck. I'll try it again when I'm desperate for thai, but I'd be better off making it at home.
