    Char Kway Teow Noodle

Went here to celebrate my husband's birthday but no special benefits for birthdays- not even a candle on a dessert we ordered. We did enjoy the new clean restaurant at this location. It's difficult to find Singaporean food. So we are grateful and reminisced food from that region. Some dishes were authentic while others were modified but overall the food was good. Service was good except we ask for our chicken flavored rice 4 times from the waiter but he was clueless how to get it for us. Maybe he thought the kitchen needs to make it. The waitress brought it to us right away after asking. We waited about 10-15 minutes while our curry dish was sitting there for the rice to come. Here's what we ordered: - chicken satay 5/5 - laksa noodle 3/5 - char kway teo 4/5 - salmon curry 5/5 - cereal prawns 4/5 - sambal string beans 3/5 good taste but half the size for an entree - Singapore coffee 4/5 - ginger honey tea 5/5 - fried banana 5/5 - black rice dessert 4/5

    Laksa Noodles

Food was alright, not bad but not the best either. Not really a restaurant I would recommend. The interior is clean and nice so if you are just looking for a spot to hang out for lunch, this could be an option. - Laksa: the laksa was listed as one of their signature dishes on the menu so I figure it should be a safe option. It was honestly a little bland and had about two shrimps in it with a few pieces of chicken, tofu, egg, cucumbers. It is a dish I would not order again. - chicken satay: just okay. Didn't really impress me. Again, not really a dish I would crave again.

Since visiting Singapore in November, 2024, I have been craving chicken rice, but have had the hardest time finding a place that serves the classic dish with all of the three sauces. To my surprise, the concentrated soy sauce, which, in my opinion, is the most important, seems to be a rare commodity in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thanks to yelp, I found Shiok! Singapore Kitchen who offers authentic Singaporean cuisine featuring a variety of traditional dishes including chicken rice with the triad of sauces. No longer a restaurant with a salle à manger for on prem dining, Shiok! has moved to a commercial kitchen space and converted the eatery into a ghost kitchen for delivery or take-out. I called the restaurant prior to placing my order, confirming that they had my coveted sauces for the chicken rice and that I could request white meat only. The very friendly man who answered the phone confirmed both, but advised to order online because they could not take credit card payments over the phone. No problem (Heads-up, though - there is an Online Platform Fee. I was charged $1.55 for my subtotal of $30.98. Perhaps you can avoid this fee by ordering through their app?). My order was confirmed at 5:02 PM with a text message indicating that I could pick up by 5:22 PM. No joke - at 5:09 PM, I received another text that my order was ready. I ordered two items, but even for a small order, seven minutes turnaround time is lightning fast. Located on Macarthur Avenue with extremely limited spaces in the minute parking lot, finding a spot to park along the street could also be challenging. Following the advice on another yelper's review, when we arrived, I jumped out while Z waited in the car, double parked, with the hazard lights on. Below are what I ordered, both of which were good portion sizes and reasonable prices: Roti Prata ($12.99) - This is a nice appetizer. The crispy flatbread with soft, chewy interior paired very well with the accompanying savoury curry sauce. Singapore Chicken Rice ($17.99) - This entrée of tender poached chicken served atop aromatic rice accompanied by fresh cucumber slices and chili, ginger, and soy sauces did not disappoint. Just as their menu describes, Shiok's version of Singapore's national dish is simple, but bursting with flavour. My craving was finally satisfied and with each bite, I was brought back to the island country and home to the Merlion. I was also delighted that my request for white meat only was honoured. At pick-up, I was happily given a second set of the trio of sauces at no charge. I know that my chicken rice craving will come again, so I will definitely return. I also have my eye on their Singapore Chili Prawns ($25.99) and Singapore Butter Cereal Prawns ($25.99). Singapore is a far place to get to from the San Francisco Bay Area, but with Shiok! serving authentic fare, it's the closest or best one can get or taste to the Southeast Asian country. I'm crossing my fingers that they will eventually open up another restaurant to resume onsite dining

    Roti Prata with Curry Sauce

Great Singaporean flavors in Bay area! The Roti Prata was awesome, wish they had the chicken & egg stuffed ones too. Hainanese Chicken-Rice - the no.1 comfort food was simple & well done. The signature Singapore Chilli prawn was very tasty - a tad sweeter for my taste, I would have liked an option to make is spicier. I guess the Crab version would be similar. The fried Banana with ice cream desert was delicious. Have to revisit to try out the Laksa, Rendang & Nasi Lemak. Lamb Rendang would be a welcome option. Must try for folks looking for food variety. Simple decor, great service. Must try.

Enjoyed my meal here with decent food. The menu was reasonable priced, and service was nice. I think the items we ordered all met our expectations, but there were other items on the menu that looked really good too that we didn't get to try. Would come back here again if in the area to try other items

The laksa was so flavorful and the prawns were huge. Also had char kuey tiao and lettuce cups, which were good. Only downside was that the meats were kind of tough and had weird texture across several dishes. We managed to catch them on their last day of operations. The owners mentioned that they'll be operating out of a kitchen doing takeout-only food in Redwood City soon, so looking forward to that.

    Nonya Fish
    Iris H.

My very first time trying Singaporean food and I'm not disappointed at all! My highlight is definitely the nonya fish and crispy tofu. Nonya fish is fried crispy and it comes with a tasty tomato sauce. The crispy tofu, although the name says crispy, actually is super soft almost like a pudding. It pairs very well with the sauce and thin carrot garnish. Although the portion seems smaller than expected and I also wished there is more duck with the garlic noodle, the flavor is delicious and I would def still be back to try out more new dishes.

    Sad Chicken Flavored Rice

This is sad. Order from their doordash because this amount of chicken with no soup on the side for the price is just sad. Got takeout and picked it up from their restaurant.

I love the vibe, not fussy, but details matter- Heath Ceramics, Le Creuset pots for cioppino, heavy silverware, substantial napkins- everything feels easy but the details let you know they pay attention. We always start with the Vesper martini, their entire cocktail and wine service is impressive, but the Vesper hits. Homemade sourdough starts every meal, supposedly the starter has been the same for years, I mean this is the Bay Area, we know sourdough, and no complaints. Oysters of course, very fresh, great selection, not just the basic kumotos you find at most places, really unique finds. As far as the food, we've never had anything we didn't like, typically we lean towards seafood and salads, but we've also had the burger and the BLT. One other note, my step-daughter just got off the plane from NYC and the first place she wanted to go was Clark's for a cup of their clam chowder- it's that good. The shellfish here is also damn good. That clam linguine is a guilty pleasure. It's got just the right amount of cream in it leaving the sauce light and nuanced with harmonious flavors. The mussels and clams go perfect with the grilled sourdough for dipping in the broth. Ask for the spicy oil. Omg I want to put it in everything! I never order crab cakes. Because they're usually breaded up with the actual crab meat taking a back seat but not at Clark's! It's all tasty crab meat with almost no casing if any. I only order crab cakes here. If you crave dessert, this is the place also. I'm not a huge dessert person, but I enjoy their sweet treats. Sometimes they have special desserts also like that berry cheesecake. The staff explained there was a mixup and due to that all the orders continued getting mixed up during our meal, but there was no acknowledgment otherwise or an attempt to make things right. I think because the group tip is already mandatory, there was no incentive on their end, perhaps. The bus staff are pretty available and responsive but limited in what they were allowed to assist with and the server was hard to flag down. Anyway onto the food. The clams linguine was flavorful. Those poor waiters were sprinting the entire time we were there. The food also took forever to make. Skewers had a 20-30-minute wait. The Sukiyaki hotpot entree took 40-50 minutes, and all they needed to do was slice the meat and arrange the veggies. We still had to cook the raw meat ourselves, mind you. I don't understand why it would take them 45 minutes to prep. Not being able to get a hold of the server to check on the status of our dish didn't help either, as they were busy zooming around because the restaurant was understaffed. Overall, there is a mismatch between the price they are charging and the overall experience we got.
