4.5 I love Singaporean breakfast! So when I found out they were trying out the breakfast menu for this weekend, I had to check it out. From what I read, they were originally at a dif location, but moved to this new spot. There is a parking lot. The place was spacious, good amount of seating, and very green/lots of plants. Felt cozy. I got the kaya toast set, beef rendang nasilemak set and the curry puffs. You can pick either kopi or teh for the sets. I got one of each to try, they were strongggg, and not very sweet. Personally, I would've liked it to be a little sweeter. Aside from that, everything was presented nicely, good flavor, and good portions. The meal was comforting! I got there almost 12 and it wasn't very busy, but got quite busy by the time we left. Since they were busy, it took awhile to get attention/get the bill. The restaurant moves to new location. I visit this restaurant during lunch time. This new location recently opened. I came here as I keep seeing post on social media specially it's lunch menu. The restaurant has simple design with plenty of table system. We ordered chicken rice, laksa, roti, char kwe thaw, crispy tofu, kopi peng and kopi o. The fod was ready pretty quickly. Now about the food. I am a bit dissapointed. I was excited when we decided to come and have lunch but all are considered average. One thing that surprised me but it was explained by the may be owner was about Char Kwe Tiaw. At all the places I have this, it is cooked and comes with pork lard and at this restaurant it was not because the owner want it to be available for everyone. For me the missing part is flavor of each dish. The Laksa soup is good but it is at the light side. The char Kwe Tiaw a bit at the sweet side. The chicken rice is ok. Roti is ok. Crispy tofu come with sweet sauce. Kopi is good. If you have visited other Singaporean restaurant before you can tell the different. read more

I've been meaning to write this for quite awhile. As some of you know, this restaurant was open for many years in Menlo Park (on Crane I think), then shut down altogether during the pandemic and reopened as take out only in RWC. The son of the original owner has now reopened full service back in MP. Their shop sign hadn't been approved yet by the city fathers, so it was a little tricky to find, but when we did, we had a delicious lunch. Here's what we ate: Duck Garlic Noodle 4.5*, $19.99 duck meat with springy egg noodles, tossed in garlic pepper sauce. with melted cheese, bean sprouts, and lots of garlic: A lot like chow mein, but the noodles have a great chew. Lots of delicious duck pieces. The only draw back for me was that the melted cheese was out of place. I don't know if it is traditional or not. Assam Aubergine Malay 5*, $21.99 Grilled Chinese eggplant topped with hot-and-sour tamarind sauce. This was excellent. I think it was grilled because there was a great smoky background note. Crispy Tofu 5* , $17.99 crispy tofu, Shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and scallion sauce. Our favorite of the lunch. Very earthy, but a bit sweet and salty. Flavor combination that's unique and difficult to describe. The kitchen's timing was a little off, so sometimes they were slow and sometimes fast, but they're just getting their sea legs and we weren't in a hurry. All the servers were very pleasant and the owner came out to talk to us. Menlo Park is a good halfway point for me to meet people from the South Bay. We will be back. Food was fine. Ambiance ok. Service was god awful. Wait staff was slow and we had to ask several times to get anything we needed. Worst of all, 18% was included in the tip, however the server only showed the total (with gratuity included) without informing us. Went here to celebrate my husband's birthday but no special benefits for birthdays- not even a candle on a dessert we ordered. We did enjoy the new clean restaurant at this location. It's difficult to find Singaporean food. So we are grateful and reminisced food from that region. Some dishes were authentic while others were modified but overall the food was good. Service was good except we ask for our chicken flavored rice 4 times from the waiter but he was clueless how to get it for us. Maybe he thought the kitchen needs to make it. The waitress brought it to us right away after asking. We waited about 10-15 minutes while our curry dish was sitting there for the rice to come. Since visiting Singapore in November, 2024, I have been craving chicken rice, but have had the hardest time finding a place that serves the classic dish with all of the three sauces. To my surprise, the concentrated soy sauce, which, in my opinion, is the most important, seems to be a rare commodity in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thanks to yelp, I found Shiok! Singapore Kitchen who offers authentic Singaporean cuisine featuring a variety of traditional dishes including chicken rice with the triad of sauces. No longer a restaurant with a salle à manger for on prem dining, Shiok! has moved to a commercial kitchen space and converted the eatery into a ghost kitchen for delivery or take-out. I called the restaurant prior to placing my order, confirming that they had my coveted sauces for the chicken rice and that I could request white meat only. The very friendly man who answered the phone confirmed both, but advised to order online because they could not take credit card payments over the phone. No problem (Heads-up, though - there is an Online Platform Fee. I was charged $1.55 for my subtotal of $30.98. Perhaps you can avoid this fee by ordering through their app?). My order was confirmed at 5:02 PM with a text message indicating that I could pick up by 5:22 PM. No joke - at 5:09 PM, I received another text that my order was ready. I ordered two items, but even for a small order, seven minutes turnaround time is lightning fast. Located on Macarthur Avenue with extremely limited spaces in the minute parking lot, finding a spot to park along the street could also be challenging. Following the advice on another yelper's review, when we arrived, I jumped out while Z waited in the car, double parked, with the hazard lights on. Below are what I ordered, both of which were good portion sizes and reasonable prices: Roti Prata ($12.99) - This is a nice appetizer. The crispy flatbread with soft, chewy interior paired very well with the accompanying savoury curry sauce. Singapore Chicken Rice ($17.99) - This entrée of tender poached chicken served atop aromatic rice accompanied by fresh cucumber slices and chili, ginger, and soy sauces did not disappoint. Just as their menu describes, Shiok's version of Singapore's national dish is simple, but bursting with flavour. My craving was finally satisfied and with each bite, I was brought back to the island country and home to the Merlion. I was also delighted that my request for white meat only was honoured. At pick-up, I was happily given a second set of the trio of sauces at no charge. I know that my chicken rice craving will come again, so I will definitely return. I also have my eye on their Singapore Chili Prawns ($25.99) and Singapore Butter Cereal Prawns ($25.99). Singapore is a far place to get to from the San Francisco Bay Area, but with Shiok! serving authentic fare, it's the closest or best one can get or taste to the Southeast Asian country. Shiok is the best Singaporean food our family has found outside of Singapore, and we are thrilled they are back in Menlo Park. Our family is Singaporean, and anyone who knows Singaporeans knows that food is practically religion. We are passionate foodies, and Shiok has been our family's go-to spot for authentic Singaporean food for more than a decade. This is a beloved family-run restaurant, and you can feel that warmth in both the food and the service. As you're savoring a bowl of laksa, a plate of chicken rice, or a roti prata starter, it's common for a family member to stop by, say hi, and see how you're doing. That personal touch is part of what makes Shiok so special. A couple of years ago, we were heartbroken when Shiok lost its longtime Menlo Park location after the building was sold. They managed to continue operating through a ghost kitchen in Redwood City, and we were so grateful to still be able to order our favorite dishes. Now that they have relocated back to Menlo Park, we could not be happier. If you love Asian food -- especially Singaporean food -- you have to try Shiok. The laksa was so flavorful and the prawns were huge. Also had char kuey tiao and lettuce cups, which were good. Only downside was that the meats were kind of tough and had weird texture across several dishes. We managed to catch them on their last day of operations. My very first time trying Singaporean food and I'm not disappointed at all! My highlight is definitely the nonya fish and crispy tofu. Nonya fish is fried crispy and it comes with a tasty tomato sauce. The crispy tofu, although the name says crispy, actually is super soft almost like a pudding. It pairs very well with the sauce and thin carrot garnish. Came here for the first time. We happened to be around the area and found this Singaporean restaurant. We came here for lunch around 12:30pm on a Wednesday. Not too crowded. Only 2 tables were also dining in. We ordered the lunch special, nasi goreng with prawns and rendang rice plate. Nasi goreng is pretty good. And my husband likes his rendang rice plate that came with salad although the rendang could have more depth in flavor, he said. We also enjoyed the iced tea and fried ice cream during this hot day particularly the coconut ice cream hiding inside this battered donut-textured cake that is slightly crunchy on the outside. I do really like the oil paintings of blooming flowers at the back. I ate the Hainan chicken, and it was good: most pieces had a nice texture, and it was quite tender. The sauces were good. I've had this food twice and they were both doordash deliveries. Both times I have ordered the string beans, and I think they're great in terms of flavor and crunchiness. I ordered the coconut rice last time and it was pretty good. Today, I ordered the Nonya fish, which was pretty good minus the quantity. It definitely displayed a bit flat, and it comes in plastic containers, so unfortunately, the fish is not crispy, but still soft and flavorful with the sauce on top. They did not have the singapore carrot cake so they changed my order to char kway teow which was fine as I didn't order a side of rice and this noodle dish was a good pairing. I went here with my team for a fun lunar new year lunch and parking was a bit of a mess. Hard to find because the lots and street parking were full. The food was reasonably priced and as per my Singaporean manager, pretty good! The nasi lemak looked a bit sad but the noodle dishes were pretty good. Came out here for a dinner on Friday night. We got a reservation from open table. There were plenty of free parking spaces around the restaurant. My friend was running late but I was able to check in, on time. They seated me at a nice and cozy table. Chairs on one and long sofa on the other end of the table. And beautiful cushions. It was really comfortable and homey. My friend arrived soon after. Server got us menus and checked in twice to give us time, tried to help us order. We ordered a roti prata, sayor lodeh, garlic pepper chicken with a serving of white and coconut rice. The food looked beautiful and it was delicious, hot and very aromatic. It smelt so good that I wanted to dig in asap, while it was still piping hot. Service was also very good. The server checked in on us and refilled water, without having to ask for it. We also spoke to the owner, Dennis. He has been a restaurant owner for over 20 years. He cares a lot about customer service and making sure every customer has a stellar experience. We had a lot of questions about how he manages the restaurant and juggles between in store and online foot traffic. He was very gracious to answer all our questions. He spent over 30 mins talking us. The whole experience showed us how much he cares about customer service. And when the owner cares so much about it, it really shows in every touchpoint. read more

I ordered on Uber eats and there is no side soup as advertised, no garnishment on top, and the rice is mushy (as you can see in the photo). Stay away from this place if you want good food.
