Appetizer- grilled eggplant was okay Fresh spring roll with shrimp was good The satay chicken was okay. Basil stir fried vegetables had mixed reviews- I thought it was okay while my wife liked it. The drunken noodles were good. Chicken pad Thai was good. Lemon grass chicken was okay. The coconut home made ice cream was tasty. There was cold air from the front door every time someone came in or went out of the restaurant. They had plastic water glasses and that threw me off as it's a nice restaurant in Palo Alto. Not sure what happened to this place. We ordered door dash; red curry with chicken and a pad thai with chicken. Now I'm not sure what the heck they do to pre treat their chicken. It had the strangest weirdest texture. It was chewy but snappy like those Asian meatballs. It was super odd and it tasted really off. The pad thai was pretty gross. Flavoring was off; covered in shredded raw carrots adding a really off putting taste. Their red curry with chicken was exactly that. This is a comfortably upscale restaurant in downtown P.A., however I think the ambiance at Thaiphoon supercedes the stuff that emerges from the kitchen. Tom Yum seafood combination seafood dinner was a hot and tangy broth. Garnished with fresh lime juice, it also contains lemongrass, mushrooms, and roasted peppers. Pot of soup can feed three or four people and was plenty for our small group. The shrimp were fine, but the large mussels and chunks of squid were not tender -- maybe amateurishly executed and just over cooked. That made the soup, as a whole, not successful or tasty. If all the seafood could have been cooked, seasoned and prepped so that they came out better, the Tom yum would have been enjoyable. Pot stickers are comprised of five pieces with pork, ginger, leek, and seasoning; they are served with soy based dipping sauce. Menu didn't indicate these are deep fried so that the wrappers are all puffy and al dente. Definitely not your Chinese style pot stickers, but I have no idea if it's typical Thai recipe or just the restaurant's own. I would have requested friends chosen something else, had I known how they're cooked.. but even for what they turned out to be, they could have been tastier. Presentation of all the dishes is lovely. The Wife and I were checking out menus in PA for an impromptu dinner date. We leaned into the porch at Thaiphoon, and then asked for a table even without seeing the menu, because they were playing actual Thai pop music, which The Wife loves. They call themselves pan-Asian, but I thought it was 90% Thai. For example, they had a lamb saag and a couple Chinese dishes. We ordered some standard fare: tofu and veggie spring rolls, pad see ew, and a specialty seafood Thai basil. I asked for no calamari, so it had plenty of shrimp, scallops and even mussels, which were not noted on the menu. All of the dishes were very well done. There was a single green chili of some kind in my dish, with all the seeds still attached. Presumably it was there for adding heat, but I stupidly ate it, and regretted it. I also had a gewurztraminer, which was fairly sweet, but paired very well. Dessert was roti with a sweet glaze. Small, but really yummy (and inexpensive). Had tickets to a show in Palo Alto so Made dinner reservations here for two at 6 PM. There is street parking and an adjacent parking lot. I got lucky with a nearby spot with I think 3 hours Free parking. The restaurant had ample greenery, and a warm vibe. Service was attentive and helpful, She let me know if she could make almost anything vegetarian if prompted. I started with Lychee ice tea, which was slightly sweet, and very refreshing, with caffeine. For an appetizer we ordered the Golden eggplant which was crispy and tasty. Over time the quality has gotten worse (is it my imagination or are the Chicken Satay now half the size they used to be? They are now paper thin). Tonight was EXTRA annoying though as I placed my usual and, as I usually do, I asked for an extra sweet chili sauce because we usually need extra for the crab ragoon and the sauce that comes with the fresh garden rolls is very gross (very salty hoison type sauce). Tonight they randomly charged me almost $4 after my order was already en route for my "special request". I was so pissed I called the restaurant and of course they didn't pick up and I had to call DoorDash to explain that you can't just charge someone any random amount just because they made a "special request" and not get approval or advertise the amount. SO annoying. Looking for another go-to weeknight Thai place out of principle. I was already on the fence about this place. I'm sure their costs are rising as our cost of living is too but it's all getting ridiculous. The eggrolls were just okay. However, I ordered drunken noodles, and they were extremely mushy and chewy. It also seemed like the noodles had been chopped up, which completely ruined the dish for me. When we politely asked for the dish to be removed, the waiter lied and claimed he had asked earlier if everything was good, and that we said yes--something that didn't happen. To make matters worse, the waitress sarcastically suggested, "Maybe it's your taste buds." Fun fact: I eat Thai food all the time and have never encountered drunken noodles served like that. On top of everything, we were scolded while waiting to pay, and the waitress continued with sarcastic remarks throughout the interaction. Only thing is I had asked for my pad see ew to be medium spice, but honestly it was more on the mild side. So maybe order up one level of spice if that is what you are looking for. I ordered Door Dash (1) Shrimp Pad See Ew 3/5. The seasoning is a bit on the sweeter side and the noodles were a bit soggy however the best out of the 3 items I ordered. If you must, this is ok to order. (2) The Pad Thai with chicken and added tofu 1/5. I didn't see the option to add it, so I ordered a side of rice to pay for tofu add. I even noted dont pack me rice and use it to add tofu but they charged me extra for tofu. Taste wise the worst pad thai I've ever had. Soggy, dry chicken, dry squared tofu, bad pad Thai sauce. Both of the noodles were packed tightly in the round container, it kind of pressed all the noodles together. Suggest using a box slightly more space for the noodles to have room and not bunched up. (3 ) Satay chicken 1/5. Sigh...sad sad chicken. Dry and lack taste. Even the color and size of the skewer is not appetizing to the eyes. The worst chicken satay I've had. We first of all, got seated pretty quickly on a Wednesday night. It was a chilly night and we were seated outside but the heaters were great and we felt nothing but comfortable. We ordered 2 starters: Golden eggplant and the roti curry sauce. The eggplant was good but not amazing but that could be personal preference. The roti and both sauces were extremely tasty but the size of the roti was small. For main courses we ordered the green curry with tofu and vegetables and pad ke mao. Both were very tasty, the rice was extra and doesn't come with the curry. Overall we enjoyed this experience. This place is slightly pricey but overall fairly worth it. read more

Maybe it was just me but she did not seem like she appreciated me. It was very hard for me to give her 18% tip but she probably needed it if she is having such a bad day. I wanted to give 0% but the chef and the first waiter was good. She forced me to pay while I was still coming back from the bathroom when I was still trying to settle down and finish my food, but she already took it and packed it up. Even though I was trying to tell her I wasn't finished, and that I only asked for my rice to-go, she stood there demanding I pay now. I tried to tell her "whenever to pay is okay," trying to signal to her that I was in the middle of enjoying my dinner, and that I wasn't done eating yet and it was only 9pm or so before they took everything except my tea anyway. It's okay. Someone already is working on it. No need to make them bring it back. I just don't understand why you would think i want to take little scraps of food back home. I just wanted rice to go. I will try other thai places nearby. They are a little judgemental/pushy. She was towering over me and blocking me from leaving my seat. It was not good service at all and I have worked in kitchens -- I know what customer service is. Maybe she is just having a bad week. However, note that the entree orders don't come with rice, and a bowl of white rice or brown rice costs $2.75 which felt rather high especially as other restaurants often include rice along with the dish. Food came out quickly. The flavors of our dishes were pretty good. However, I was a bit underwhelmed by the Eggplant with Spicy Sauce, which turned out to be mostly mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers with only a few pieces of eggplant. We did quite like the taste of the yellow curry though, and I've also enjoyed their green curry when having it in the past. read more

They even gave me the spicy chili sauce & they gave me the chili powder as well. The decor of the restaurant is very nice & makes you feel like you are in Thailand.
