Some of the best seafood on LBI...PERIOD! It's the main reason I keep coming back to this beach town. Dee-licious. Great food! It's a small place so expect a wait. We were told 30 minutes and waited about 40. We had the alaskan crab legs, a linguine with white clam dish and the baked seafood combination. Their food is DELISH. Especially their crab cakes. The only down side I would say is because they were so busy it took a while to get a refill on water and their bathroom is actually OUTSIDE the building which is awkward. Other than that it's a great place for seafood. They even have a market for you to buy and prepare the food at home or just order take out! read more

Came for dinner around 5:30 on a Friday night. We had prepared ourselves for a long wait but to our surprise we got right in. This year they also put a long bar in the front of the restaurant so you can sit there but the downside is you overlook the boulevard. We hadn't expect to stop for dinner so didn't have wine but if you forget the Port Hole liquor store is across the street. I got the a la carte 20 piece fried shrimp basket - very tasty and perfectly fried. The rest of the party got their famous lump crab cake, a broiled swordfish sandwich and the shrimp and grits special. Everyone enjoyed and we will be coming back. read more

Very small but excellent for seafood. Perfectly cooked corn on the cob (not mushy) and very good clam chowder. The semolina rolls are crack!! Service is pretty good. The wait can be extensive, there are about 10 tables here. They own other restaurants on the Island and in Manahawkin, but this one is the best. Did curbside take out. I had King Crab legs for 47 dollars. They are pricey but they are on par with other seafood places. They were very good and came with two sides which is my complaint. I ordered coleslaw and onion rings. The coleslaw was a mini cup and the gave me three greasy onion rings. For the price I would expect a better size on the side. We also ordered the Baked Seafood Combo. It was outstanding. The sword fish was fresh and could not have been better. We also ordered the baked flounder and it was fresh and perfect. Really great seafood. It gets VERY crowded, especially on weekends, so be prepared to wait or just get takeout. It's also BYO, but there is a liquor store literally right down the street. The lump crab cakes are amazing and so is the seafood pasta. I have to take a star off because for whatever reason, the corn on the cob is never cooked properly. It's always rock hard and raw. Tried the baked seafood combo- shrimp, scallop, fish (tuna, flounder, swordfish or salmon) and crab cake. It comes with two sides (I chose corn on the cob and homemade potato salad). The shrimp and scallop were fine but the swordfish was bit dry and crab cake tasted very fishy. It's not a bad price at $27 but the portions were but small (two shrimps and two scallops). Worst Fish Sandwich I have every had If you are looking for the the worst fish sandwich money can buy go to the Ship Bottom Shellfish. As my picture shows they should call it the fish nugget sandwich. You get two very small over cooked fish nuggets that they call flounder on a stale bun that looks like it came out of a frozen bag. The place is very pricey, overrated and a tourist trap. I think they have around 5 parking spots, outside bathroom and a sink near the front door for people to was their hands. read more

Just ordered a burger with a $3.00 side of cole saw. It was the size of a ketchup tub you would get at Wendy's. It was literally a one spoon full serving. My boyfriend found this restaurant for a Saturday night date and we LOVED IT. It wasn't fancy, but it wasn't picnic benches and an umbrella with plastic utensils. They had 9 tables so it was relatively quiet. We had a 45 minute wait and they told us to get some drinks at the Porthole on the opposite corner and they would call the bartenders when our table was ready- PERFECT because Ship Bottom Shellfish is BYOB so we were able to have some drinks and stop at the liquor store a block down for a bottle of wine. The food was PHENOMENAL. Nobody had a bad meal. The mussels were perfect and the clams casino was flavorful. The king crab legs were HUGE and cooked perfectly along with the steak and lobster tail. The lobster was soft on the inside with a little bit of crisp on the outside. Ask for a side of jalapeno ranch and dip everything in it. We will be back here next year during our annual week beach trip. SO happy we found this place. read more

I've eaten here about 15-20 times and I love it. Top of the line fish and shellfish. Menu has a few misses on it but if you stick with the simpler things like a blackened swordfish sandwich and some New England chowder you will leave happy. Steamers are great, apps are really good. After two visits to SBS, I've come to the conclusion that it's one of the best options on LBI. The people who run SBS are very nice; they try to make everyone feel at home. The ambiance is chill, and the place looks homey. The BYOB policy is great, especially if you need to wait before you're seated. Show up with wine and beer in your hand and you'll be given an ice bucket and glasses, even if you'll be hanging around for 45 minutes before your table is ready. A few BYOB places are cash only, but SBS accepts credit cards! The food is pretty good, though there was one salad that didn't appeal to me. Portions are large enough that you are likely to feel well fed as you walk away. Some details: For my first visit, I started with the Manhattan clam chowder, which I thought was excellent. I continued with the grouper with prosciutto and capers and thought that the fish itself was fine but that the stuff on top of it was ill-conceived. My two sides were a baked potato and some tomato basil salad. The baked potato was good, but it was quite small. The salad was obviously prepared long before it was served; I found it to be pretty awful, but my companions finished it for me. On our second visit, I began with a bucket of mussels that were steamed with white wine and garlic. The taste was good and there were a lot of mussels in the bucket! I managed to get my dining companions to eat a few mussels, but I definitely did most of the eating. Not bad! My main dish was a blackened halibut with a wasabi cream sauce and two sides. I loved the halibut! For sides, I went back to the baked potato and chose cole slaw instead of the tomato salad. The cole slaw was fine. read more

Food was great...(take out) but why must we be so snippy and nasty to the young help? When the bill was done correctly did the owner give our poor counter help an apology?? Nope!! He then confused himself with the check out while this poor girl was crying. We all have bad days, but why not apologize for your bad behavior if you are the owner. I love seafood joints in general, and boy does this place most definitely deliver. With a BYOB policy, my party and I brought a small cooler of beers. They offered beer glasses / cups to help us get our bottles out of the way... a nice gesture. To Order: A Half Gallon of Mussels - Appetizer -soaked in a garlic wine sauce with diced garlic smothering the whole shabang, it made for a delicious appetizer kick-off. The mussels themselves were a bit on the smaller side, but it was all made up with the powerful garlic wine flavor. Dip it with the provided butter dip, and you'll soar to the heavens above! Salmon w/ Baked Potato and Homemade Onion Rings -The salmon was about as tender as could be... about one step from being raw, pretty much. It was super flavorful. For any normal person, any kind of dip would be highly unnecessary, but because the bucket of butter was still around from the Mussels, I chose to use that as my primary dip. Uhh-mazing. The baked potato was pretty decent, though nothing quite too stellar about them. It was semi-dry and rather ordinary. The onion rings... you may want to pass on these. They were plain tasting, the batter was nothing spectacular at all, and the onion inside you could hardly taste. The green beans would have been a better choice. Swordfish -A delicious delight, very tender (not quite as tender as the salmon though!), and with skin. I found myself picking off other people's plates to get a few more tasty bites of the Swordfish. Yumm! The atmosphere was warm and nice... like many of the restaurants on the island, I've noticed. The wait staff was friendly, patient with the ordering process, and very pleasant to have around during the whole dining experience. A solid 5 Stars for taste and experience. read more

Confused by 4 star rating. 24.99 for a 1 lb Lobster? Seems a bit steep considering Shop-Rite has them for 6.99 right now. Certainly not paying for ambiance because there is none to speak of. Oh wait, their electric outlet on the ceiling had water dripping from it, so that was entertaining... Service was mediocre, no personality, no smile. My Flounder sandwich was pretty crappy and portion was not good. My uncle complained about portion of his seared tuna sandwich also. Go elsewhere. read more

Came with a large group and couldn't be seated so we ordered food to go. First off, the dining room is quite small. Maybe seats 35 total plus some first come first serve outdoor seating (not much). The girls behind the counter were super helpful and very organized in the way they took the order. The wait for the food was a little longer than promised but I'm sure that was due to the size of the order. Now to the food: Excellent. Everything was cooked correctly and well seasoned. The crab cake is nearly all crab. The soft shell crab (fried and sautéed) are both winners--maybe a tad salty. Fried shrimp were crunchy and browned without being burned. Fish and chips were good--fries could've been crispier for my liking. Fish had a light batter which we liked but some people might prefer a thicker crunchier batter. Raw oysters were fresh and delicious. Only sorta miss was the steamed mussels. The garlic wine butter sauce was delicious but the mussels seemed small to me. All in all, this is a place to hit up but I'd suggest ordering to go unless you go off hours. read more

My boyfriend and I were plagued with bad seafood experiences while on the island...so this was the light at the end of the tunnel. The wait is incredible at this place...about 2 hours around dinner time...so we opted for take out which was only a 15 minute wait! SWEET. I ordered the lump crab cake (single) with a cup of NE clam chowdah and he ordered the crab imperial with flounder which he got with mixed greens and some french fries. This place is the bee's knees. I didn't dine in, I took out. I phoned in my order before I got there. It was crowded, people waiting for orders, people waiting to be seated. The girls were friendly enough and my order was ready fairly quickly. The problem I have with this restaurant is the pricing. Lots of money, for little food. I ordered food for 3 adults, only 1 was an entree and my bill was $70. I understand prices are inflated on the island, you can't do much about that. When an entree costs $21 and consists of 6 scallops a handful of fries and 3 (yes 3!) small onion rings that's just plain stupid. When onion rings was offered up as a side order choice never did I imagine there would be 3 small onion rings. So damn cheap and cheesy. The calamari is a joke too taste and portion wise. It was rubbery and tasted like it was heated from frozen supplies. They need to come back to reality with pricing and portion size. The "chef" should also come up to Northern NJ to see what real calamari looks and tastes like. I will not be going back. read more

This is the sister restaurant to Black Whale Bar and Restaurant. Black Whale is a little more dining focused and has many more seats. Ship Bottom is more laid back and takes to-go orders from the counter (still has some seating inside) Seafood here was delicious. I ordered the sauteed soft shell crabs with a side of veggies. Their crab cakes were huge and looked delicous. Service was super friendly and prices were reasonable for fresh seafood. THE GOOD: the crab cakes were so so so so so good...wouldve gotten a dozen...yum THE MEDIOCRE: the chowda soup was ok THE BAD: they were out of fish tacos...it was a bait-n-switch...said fish tacos right on the sign out front...so sad the tuna was greyish and overcooked the styrofoam container had juices from the whole meal mixing...and it wasnt very appealing...try individual dishes for those prices...and i'm not into polluting the planet, but there had to be a different configuration for the food to go bad experience...wouldnt go back read more
