Hello Crabcake! I wasn't expecting to get a party in my mouth when I ordered my crabcake, but it's summer and it seemed right. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! Unlike what some people have mentioned, my crabcake was full of lump and little fillers. It was perfectly seasoned, moist and quite a generous portion. It was so good, we later on went back to order one to go. =) My husband had the Oyster Po' boy, which he said was delicious as well... The fried Oreos with ice cream was a nice ending to a perfect Jersey summer meal. The only thing is the $$ but I guess you get what you pay for! read more

Came with a large group and couldn't be seated so we ordered food to go. First off, the dining room is quite small. Maybe seats 35 total plus some first come first serve outdoor seating (not much). The girls behind the counter were super helpful and very organized in the way they took the order. The wait for the food was a little longer than promised but I'm sure that was due to the size of the order. Now to the food: Excellent. Everything was cooked correctly and well seasoned. The crab cake is nearly all crab. The soft shell crab (fried and sautéed) are both winners--maybe a tad salty. Fried shrimp were crunchy and browned without being burned. Fish and chips were good--fries could've been crispier for my liking. Fish had a light batter which we liked but some people might prefer a thicker crunchier batter. Raw oysters were fresh and delicious. Only sorta miss was the steamed mussels. The garlic wine butter sauce was delicious but the mussels seemed small to me. All in all, this is a place to hit up but I'd suggest ordering to go unless you go off hours. read more

It's more of a 3.5 than 4, I'd say. I came here on a Friday night this summer and the queue was very long, so we went to have a drink in the pub opposite and came back again. By the time we ordered the food, I was already pretty tipsy, so I forgot what sort of white fish I ordered exactly, but I do remember that it was pretty yummy. I also had sweetcorn on cob and mashed potato, it was delicious. It is a down to earth place, very simple with friendly services. This place is ok, but not my favorite place for seafood on LBI. Getting fresh seafood from the market & cooking it yourself is a better way to go. Ship Bottom Shellfish had a long wait, so we ordered take out. Everything came out fairly quickly once we ordered. The quality of the food was fine. Some items were better than others. My family enjoyed the grilled tuna. The crab wasn't my favorite - I've had better. The oysters were huge! The prices were closer to $$$ category for LBI. This place is great if you're looking for a restaurant that serves seafood & don't mind waiting in line. If you're open to doing some DIY seafood at home you're better off getting some fresh seafood & making it up yourself. read more

Great appetizers, the mussels in white wine and butter area truly finger licking good . I enjoyed the fried shrimp and have had their crab cakes. The scallops were sweet , tender and cooked to perfection. We were just a party of three and we each enjoyed the meal , the service and the no rush atmosphere ! Waiting outside is pleasant but parking can be a difficult situation. The rest room is really odd , outside the restaurant and only one / need to obtain a key ... a little tacky, uncomfortable ... but it genuine shore seafood and causal and clean. I went here during a visit to the shore with family. The food was pretty decent, but I expected more. The wait to get in on a Saturday before 5pm was 1 hour & 45 min+. There is very little interior dining space, which attributed to the wait time. Parking can also be a hassle. The pricing wasn't incredible, but the food was pretty fresh and the selection wasn't the worst. I ordered clam strips which were alright, but I am not sure if it was entirely worth the wait. I tried some of the food the group I was with ordered, and it didn't really knock my socks off. read more

We stayed within walking distance of this restaurant recently and had such a great meal here. We went on a Monday night and had to wait about 45 minutes, but it was worth it. We had fried calamari, steamed shrimp and raw oysters as appetizers outside while we waited. They were all fresh and tasty! We had entrees that ranged from mussels to soft shell crab and we were all happy with our meals and left with a full belly. The atmosphere was the right mix of seafood shack and nicer restaurant and we definitely recommend this place! I'd say my only complaint (which seems to be common on LBI) is that they have no free refills on drinks. For the price that soda syrup costs per glass (pennies!), it just seems to be poor customer service to use this technique to save money. A person with refills and a happy experience surely must outweigh those few pennies. Otherwise, I'd say you can't go wrong with Ship Bottom Shellfish! Enjoy! read more

Amazing seafood!! Very fresh and tasty; the service at the restaurant was good too. The atmosphere is simple but what really matters is the food. We ordered the fish tacos, blackened scallops and garlic clams with lump crab. The fish tacos came with salsa and sour cream and were delicious. The fish was very fresh and tasted awesome in the tortilla. The blackened scallops were my favorite grilled nicely on the outside and still moist on the inside. I'm not a big fan of clams so they were just ok to me. Of the three dishes, it was my least favorite. All in all, a great place to eat if you're in Long Beach Island. read more

Hubby & I ate here Saturday for lunch. The best seafood we've had since our trip to Maine! The clams were tender and so good. The New England clam chowder was amazing. My hubby said his fish & chips were the best he's had in a while. Service was very good. The only negative thing I could say is the portions are on the small side. Wow!!! - Decided to give it a try, based on mostly positive Yelp reviews. Our findings: Yes, it looks like a slightly tacky seafood restaurant at the Jersey shore.... and that's what it is, well at least the 1/2 that isn't a great seafood market. If you want a fancy environment, look elsewhere. If you want a clean facility, with superb service and excellent food, go here. No lines/no wait on a September Sunday afternoon. Approx. 1/2 of the 12 or so available tables and booths were occupied at any time. Food: -Oysters on the shell were fresh, exceptionally clean, with a nice briny character. Wish we had ordered two dozen. -Combo of blackened tuna and a jumbo lump crab cake was "to die for" - hate to use that trite expression.... but that's what it was. Tuna was cooked exactly as ordered - RARE. Thin, crusty grilled surface, dark red interior, still room temp in the very center. -Broiled and fried seafood platters were perfectly prepared, with exceptionally fresh and correctly cooked shrimp, scallops, jumbo lump crab cake and fish. The two pieces of fish on the broiled platter were Chilean sea bass. Sides were all tasty. -Unsweetened tea was freshly made, and refilled generously with no extra charge. Prices: Not cheap, but if you are expecting this quality seafood, at Red Lobster prices, you are not being realistic. read more

I was at this restaurant and i didn't like my food it was like horrible fishy crab that's was pretty expensive as well. I had two bites. i asked to send it back and get something else and the waitress was like yeah and took my plate. Then about 10 min later they come back with my plate and is like u cant send it back. and so i'm like okay and 10 minutes later the waitress comes back and is like "how are you guys doing" and my partner was like "honestly bad because she's not eating anything because we can't send back the food. i've never been to a place where i can't send back the food it's a little frustrating she didn't eat the anything" and this other waitress comes over starts getting so mad being like "this isn't a taste test you can't just try something and send it back" and was being so rude. At this point we're confused because we didn't do anything wrong and beg the waitress to leave us alone and give us the bill, which she refuses to do. Another women, we assume is the owner, even tries to pull her away but she refuses. When the check finally comes we ask for a pen to tip our original waitress and i kid you not, she verbatim said "get your own pen at this point".Ive been to hundreds of food establishments in my life and never been treated so poorly. Do not give money to this restaurant. oh an the food was barely mediocre. read more

Finallllly made it here to try all the fresh seafood everyone's raving about. The space is rather tiny (only 9 tables altogether) so the wait can get pretty horrific. Being the intellects that we are, we waited until around 8:45PM to make our grand entrance and were seated after approximately 10 minutes. I enjoyed a huge helping of the u-shell-it cocktail shrimp (you pay by weight and can get as little or as much as you would like). So.freaking.good. They also have a varied assortment of crab, oysters, clams, mussels, lobster plus the standard fish selections, of course. Service was friendly, attentive & QUICK (so quick, in fact, that our food came out after approximately 4 minutes. Not going to lie, it kinda freaked me out. I know cocktail shrimp doesn't take a whole lot of time to prepare but fried butterfly shrimp and crab cakes?) Oh, and it's BYOB (you can even crank open a bottle while you wait to be seated). Also, I don't know what it is about the acoustics of this place (especially considering there are only 9 tables) but damn, it gets LOUD in here. read more

We had this place two ways: ate at the restaurant for lunch, and carried away some raw seafood to grill later on. The restaurant was pretty much a bust. Fish overcooked, salad forgettable, po-boy drowned in remoulade, oysters overbreaded and fried past the point of flavor recognition. Crab cakes were a bright spot. Though their chef may not be divinely inspired, you can't doubt the quality of the product itself. Everything that came off the grill that evening (oysters, scallops, and shrimp) had fantastic flavor, and we used no sauces of any kind. read more

Came here for lunch one dreary Sunday, and only had to wait about 20 minutes. It is small, but worth the wait. We were very pleased with our experience We started with blackened scallops, which made me want to lick the plate. My boyfriend and I split the oyster po boy and the jumbo lump crab cake with bacon and avocado (the special, whatever it was called...). I have to say that I wasn't super impressed with the crab cake, but the po boy was amazing. Love that it's BYOB. As many have mentioned, our waitress immediately brought us a bucket of ice and a bottle opener-- very accommodating. I wish I lived closer to try more on the menu! read more

Awesome. Have been coming here for 22 years! First stop on every trip. Bob, the owner, Clamz, has built a huge empire, and all of his food is the best seafood on the island. Love Mud City, The Black Whale, and the Old Causeway just to name a few. Had a blast at Bird and Bettys , his new live venue. The scallops are the BEST. All kids love the fried clams and corn. Burgers are great for the non seafood lovers. We have compared them all, but we keep coming back. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Year round.. great always! read more

This is now our new "go to" spot for Sea Food when we are looking to eat. We ate there last Friday night and loved it. We lucked out and were seated without the usual 40 minute LBI wait. They were hopping busy but did not rush us (always a plus in my book). The bacon wrapped scallops appetizer was perfect and the Jumbo Lump Baked Crab Cakes were the best I've had! The service was very good, if a little slow, but they were attentive and friendly and the prices were about what you'd expect in a vacation town. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

For my money the best seafood place on LBI. Always fresh, well prepared and presented. Great selection. Excellent service. BYOB. Downside: open only seasonally, does not take reservations and very limited seating. Best bet is to order ahead and carry out. If you don't mind the wait there are a couple of shops across the street to preuse. Small parking lot but plenty of on street free parking. This is one of the best seafood joints in LBI- and beyond! The seafood selections are more imaginative than other restaurants. Seafood is fresh, food very flavorful. Recommend the artichoke hearts stuffed with crabmeat and sauteed soft shell crabs. Great swordfish. Super fresh mussels and oysters. Small place with few tables and BYOB policy. Bring liquor with you- liquor across the street has a horrible wine selection. Wait isn't so bad if you kill the wait with a drink! read more

This has been our go to place for many years for both dining and take out. We ordered to go last night: excellent shrimp and lump crab over linguini, as well as clams with linguini. We also bought some Manhattan Clam chowder to heat up for lunch today. I am sorry to say that the chowder was too salty, and contained grayish clumps of what looked like shredded clams which we had to cut up with a knife. Disappointed by both taste and unappetizing appearance. Last June's offering was similarly unsatisfying, but at least the clams appeared to be minced chunks. Food and service was good but I have to say that the price of king Crab legs was outrageous. I was there in the spring and they were up from $43 to $53 from last year. Now they were $63. I understand business has been hurt due to the pandemic but I think that's unacceptable for customers to expect those prices. That would make me think twice before going back again. read more

We decided to try Ship Bottom Shellfish from all the great reviews , we weren't impressed at all. We got there at 4:30, the floor was filthy with food as well as my booth, ok that happens. But I sit down and I see the open jars of horseradish and oyster crackers just out in the open, flies all over them as well as all over our area. For appetizers we had baked oysters with I think goat cheese, they were good, small, but tasty. Also ordered stuffed artichokes, they were stuffed with crab meat, a few slivers of crab, I figured it would be lump crab meat, had so much potential but the little bit of crab that was in it was off tasting. We both ordered the baked seafood platter, came with crab cakes, shrimp, scallops and choice of cod, tuna, salmon or grouper. We chose the cod. We both agreed that there was no flavor or seasoning, just baked fish. The shrimp were ok, the crab cakes weren't for us, scallops were good, the cod, was outright fishy tasting. I'm sure this place is good, been there forever and a line out the door, just wasn't for us. read more
