    Dodonpa- King of all saimins
    Klemens T.

Came her numerous times before, but not for a long time. I ordered the same thing that I've always eaten, the Dodonpa, Ultimate King of Saimins lol. It is a pretty large bowl of delicious saimin packed with a ton of toppings. For me, this was an easy smash, but maybe cause I'm a pig lol. Overall, still a cheap price for delicious food and portion. The staff are friendly and pretty fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of tables to dine at and lots of parking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Still good as usual. Has the same old school diner vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waitresses call you dear. The food is all homemade. Prices are higher but it's ok just as long as the quality doesn't change. I absolute love Shiro's!

This is a great place to get a quick bite to eat. No frills, just simple classics, with a large menu to choose from.

Our go-to saimin spot near us!! they have like 100 different saimins + so many sides you can add on (my FAVE is the chicken cutlet not to be dramatic but they have the BEST CHICKEN CUTLET IN THE WORLD THIS CHICKEN CUTLET HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART IF U LUV CHICKEN CUTLET LIKE I DO U NEED THIS CHICKEN CUTLET). I usually get the mochi saimin and the burger is fire too. A side of crispy gau gee too. Literally the possibilities are endless!!! And it's such fast service and so affordable. A classic!!

Shiro's has your comfort food of delicious noodles always on hand. We went to the Aiea location and enjoyed the Japanese saimin as well as the teri beef sandwich/ won tun mein combo. Fast and friendly service, you feel like family here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Glad we were all seated in the back, away from the afternoon sun that comes in through the windows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] #bigboyproblems

Came about 20 minutes after opening. We wanted to try their country fried noodles but the lady said that wasn't ready yet as they just opened. We got the #21 Portuguese Saimin, Lau Lau with Beef Stew, side of the Mac Salad, and the Single Banana Hot Cake. They came out fairly quick as it wasn't that busy. Saimin was good. I added shoyu and the taste made it slightly better. Lau Lau and Beef Stew were good too. It was surprising that the lau lau had butter fish inside. Not many people put in butter fish. The Mac Salad had a good taste. It was different than other places. The banana hot cake was dry and hard to cut into but taste was alright. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside was clean and bright.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The lady was friendly and easily remembered what we ordered without writing it down. We'd come back here to eat when we visit Oahu again.

Shiro's from when I was a kid till now is always my favorite place even though it's different now.. the memories and the food makes it special, my parents used to take me there, my drawings were on the wall, I loved the hamburger steak now I love the #55 with the hula burger and no forget the side Mac salad service is good and now days I take the grandkids out for lunch there I hope they always stay open cause a lot of the old places are closed

Not just another staple stop whenever do make it back home. So much found memories growing up going to Waimalu shopping mall for dinner with Ohana. It literally down bottom of Newtown grew up. Shiros Saimin Haven not only staple but from 808 know one best spots on island for Saimin. I ended up going twice while I was back home. The first time went with Saimin action! So fwk good. The broth always on point, noodles perfect, and toppings the won ton. Really perfect bowl of noodles. Second time mixed it up got Bento A. Don't normal order but love the diversity get from cone and maki sushi. Fried noodles, Teri beef, and chicken katsu. Lot of food get moneys worth. Also everything is so tasty. Shiro's Saimin Haven never disappoints and if looking for Saimin action da bomb!!!

I ordered #57 at $18+ but many ingredients were omitted from the scanned menu for the ultimate or the description- no roast beef, egg , imitation crab, etc. Don't know if they ran out of ingredients or the cooks forgot. 1 star for the server who was single handedly taking orders, bringing food and drink and bringing the tab plus bussing the tables while 2 other workers were bagging goody bags. 2 nd star since I found 3 wun tun under my noodles. 3 rd star cuz when I hand motioned I needed a take out container she brought not only the coveted container but also a plastic bag and the check at the same time . She was excellent.

The food was good and reasonably priced. The service is friendly and with a smile. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the ambiance with all the great pearls of wisdom provided.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Shiro was a very funny charismatic type person though I was never lucky enough to meet him.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love all his notes in picture frames. Shiro's has been around for a very long long time and I hope it continues to be part of my grandchildren's future too.

Came here because I had a craving for saimin. Came at 2pm and it was packed! Had to wait just a little bit for a table luckily. Server came by with water fairly quickly and then took our orders. Food arrived quickly! It definitely hit the spot. Tons of noodles and lots of garnish, just the way I like it. Will definitely be back when I get the craving for saimin again!

The two ontama (soft-boiled) eggs on top were the perfect addition--their creamy yolks mixed beautifully with the beef and rice, creating a rich, luscious sauce for the entire bowl. It's hearty, flavorful, and definitely a must-try. We ordered a side of takoyaki (octopus balls) and they were executed well. Nicely crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Yes, the prices aren't as cheap as you can find for the same dishes in Japan but hey- Japan prices can't really compete with anywhere on Oahu. They do offer a 10% discount for military, students, and kapuna (60+). Plus, I do believe that they are a "no tipping" establishment, or at least the tipping option didn't come up when I paid with card. There bowls come in 3 sizes: small, medium, and large. The medium was more than enough food for me and I can't even imagine how much food the large is. I love their beef bowl with the soft boiled egg-- the medium size comes with 2 eggs, while the small only comes with 1. I'm also a big fan of mapo beef bowl, which is a mix of tofu mapo curry and their signature beef. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a quick and filling meal!

Really good fish…read more I've been here a couple of times and have always enjoyed what I ordered. I have no complaints about the chicken katsu, the beef stew, or the Kalbi plate. Well the Kalbi, could use a little more color and charing but the flavor is mostly there. The real winning dish is the miso butterfish. That thing melts in your mouth each time I order it. I mean come on it's called butterfish for a reason. Overall four stars. The food is tasty and fair for the price. I just don't like having to pay extra for utensils or sauces. This place also has a huge menu so there's something for everyone! They have a variety of curry plates, bentos, poke, and even noodle dishes. Our go to is definitely the chicken karaage curry plate! The chicken is always crispy, a bit sweet, and super juicy! It balances out the slightly spicy and salty curry. We also love that there's vegetables in the curry (carrots & potatoes). We love that the curry comes in a separate container so no soggy chicken! We've also tried their gyoza which is always crispy and has a lot of filling inside. Most recently, I tried their miso salmon bento and that was so flavorful! It came with toss salad, edamame, and miso soup! At around $14 per plate, I think that's a pretty good deal for the amount of food you get!

They were very attentive and friendly even while the restaurant was busy. Staff made great recommendations and the food came out in a timely manner. The ambiance of the restaurant itself is so relaxing. We went before sunset and got to see the view during the day of the golf course and got to experience the night vibes as well. The menu has a lot to offer. Lots of categories with a variety of choices to cater to everyone's taste buds. Luckily went with a group of 5 so we got to try a bunch of different dishes. For appetizers- the tuna toast is a must! It's a perfect bite of poke with a nice crunch from the toast! I could eat 10 of these! The Brussel sprouts was also a favorite appetizer with its maple soy glaze and parm! If you don't like brussel sprouts- you might actually like this! lol The flavoring on the corn was great, but I wished it wasn't on the cob because it's messy to eat. The shrimp in the ebi katsu were huge, crunchy and not oily! The batter was a little thick but was proportionate to the shrimp size. The pork katsu was sooo delicious and tender. One of my favorite of the night. The wafu steak was also good - a little bit well done but the flavors were there. The miso black cod was also my favorite - soft and buttery with great flavor. The carrot puree under the cod was also surprisingly delicious and light. For dessert- the sweet potato crème brûlée is the popular dessert and it was pretty good. Not my favorite but good to try. I wonder if Okinawan sweet potato would be a better dessert the shave ice was a huge portion and the 5 of us almost didn't finish it ! The staff did give my parents a special treat for the celebration- it was like a yuzu custard with a crumble on top. THAT WAS BOMB, easily everyone's favorite dessert of the night! We inquired if that was going to be on the menu once day. And maybe it might Overall, a great restaurant with many delicious and flavor options! Great views and amazing staff. Would come again! I had the tonkatsu curry, and as a big curry fan, it's good. Tonkatsu wasn't too oily, meat was juicy, and the curry taste was taste-in. I've also had the poke nachos, shrimp/vegetable tempura, and various bento dishes--always at least solid. Finally, appreciate the servers. Depending on when you go, it can get busy, but we've never had to wait too long for food and waters get refiled/plates get cleared. The underneath parking can get tight as well. Will definitely be back because all other dishes we had were great and service was attentive and efficient! Original review: Service and staff were stellar. But the chicken katsu was one of the worst I've ever had on O'ahu. The chicken katsu was greasy and soaked in old oil that tasted rancid and oxidized, which made the panko a disappointingly saturated mess. The panko was way too browned, and neither flaky or freshly crunchy like katsu should truly be, and was a far cry from the photo in the menu. The poor, fatty chicken quality and the rubbery skin left on the chicken pieces just added to the gristly and chewy nature of the katsu. Charging customers these prices for this kind of subpar quality chicken is absolutely insulting, and we couldn't even finish the dish. It's such a disappointment to write this kind of review, but others need to know what they're getting when they order katsu at Gyotaku.

We got smoked out and it got bad to the point where my eyes were getting watery. Not sure if this happens all the time at this spot- this was my first time. The service was okay. We waited over 10 minutes to get cups of water and to put in our order. I totally get that they were short handed which also explains why it took almost 40 minutes for us to be served. Ordered the Negi-Hamachi to try something different. Hamachi is my favorite fish served sashimi style so I decided to switch it up and order the Negi-Hamachi which is finely chopped, yellow-tail with green onion and wasabi over sushi rice served with tsukemono and miso soup. I was super happy with this because the Hamachi was delicious and surprisingly, I did not feel bloated or too full afterwards.
