I usually eat in restaurant for sushi, but I wasn't able to make it therefore I order take out! making the order was confusing with (6pcs) rolls then having to choose hand roll or regular rolls which charged more. First time trying Sushi King today, 7/24/25. I was near UCLA SM and craving Japanese food and this was just a shot walk away from the hospital. I checked their website and saw the menu and thought, the prices were pretty good. The menu on their website had a combo with tempura and teriyaki for $25. I thought, Wow, that's not bad. I arrived at the restaurant, got seated and looked at the menu and I thought, "dang, this place is expensive! " the tempura and teriyaki combo is $35! But, the food is delicious. The beef was tender and cooked perfectly, medium rare. The tempura was crispy and good portion. It also came with miso soup, bean sprouts salad, cucumber salad and rice. The staff were friendly, professional and provided great service. The restaurant isn't big but clean. Sounds like they take reservations so if you have a large group, make a reservation. They're located on Wilshire Blvd and 14th St. price point is high but food is good and quality is high. Definitely worth a try. read more

What a surprise when a close friend took me there and it was the opposite of my expectations. Legit Japanese sushi masters, which after my second visit always remember my name. Very fresh fish, and portion size that I believe is the "right" size, not tiny slivers of fish like a few local places often serve. They also asked us if we could wrap up by 7:30, which was odd, especially since at 7:30 there were a few open tables. The place has a pretty casual, traditional japanese feel. Ordered the tempura combo appetizer (very good), the chirashi, and king combo. Sushi was fresh overall. Salmon and mackerel were very good. Waitresses were attentive as well. From The salmon skin salad, to the chirashi bowl, monk fruit liver, king combination, seaweed salad, fresh and water eel roll. We killed it all. Stopped in on a chilly Friday night around 7PM and was lucky to get two seats at the sushi bar as the restaurant was quite crowded. Overall we really enjoyed the experience, but it's slightly more expensive than it should be for what you get. Regardless, worth a visit. We opted for the omakase and the chef behind the counter told us he'd keep serving us until we told him to stop which was pretty cool. The nigiri comes with generous portions of fish and everything seemed fresh and well prepared. The seared salmon and toro were really good and the highlights of the meal. The shrimp tempura was delicious as well. The ambiance is very classic and a calm environment for a crowded restaurant. Service was friendly. Again, the only real nitpick was the prices could have been 10-15% cheaper for the overall experience and type of restaurant it is. Worth a visit for some solid sushi. read more

I came in on a Saturday night around 9:30pm. I was glad they were still open as a lot of places in Santa Monica close so early. The service was fine. No complaints there. Very to the point and robotic. The food however was not good. I didn't enjoy eating it. They had a lot of wasabi on every piece of sushi. Even the cucumber had a lot. The first thing I wanna say is that the restroom was immaculate, as was the dining area. This hidden gem is nestled on Wilshire Blvd. between 16th and 17th streets. It is very well lit and sparsely decorated featuring a beautiful red, gold, and black kimono at the entrance. The meal was delicious and attractively presented. We decided to try Sushi King because they are conveniently located next door to our favorite local boba shop. The quality of the fish seems decent (no fishy tasting fish here), and the prices are moderate. This is not life-changing sushi like SugarFISH, but it is good. The salmon seemed a little tasteless to me, but the texture was spot-on. The yellowtail and unagi were good. The albacore was probably my favorite because they topped it with some radish and sauce that was pretty tasty. Normally not a fan of teriyaki, but their beef teriyaki was flavorful without being too salty. They gave us our to-go order in a reusable bag, which I thought was a nice touch. I almost do not want to Yelp about this spot. It's the only authentic sushi spot I know in Santa Monica. They are a little hole in the wall shop that is family run and delicious. Yes, there are plenty of sushi spots in Santa Monica, including Sugarfish. But if you're looking for an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant with the sushi counter, great food, service, etc. This is really the only spot. I'm aware there are other sushi restaurants and I've been to them. They are not as good. I've had the sashimi, the sushi, the chirashi bowl and other items. What I did notice is that I believe they put a smaller portion of rice in the sushi than normal. Is it because Angelinos don't like carbs? I think it is but I've not usually seen this at other sushi spots or it is not as noticeable. If you want an excellent sushi experience come here and make a reservation. Don't believe me that's fine.
