Love writing these good ones... Reporting back on a must-visit new sushi restaurant: Eizen. A wonderful dining experience on our anniversary. We felt welcome, and the quality of the cuisine was excellent. All at a very reasonable cost. Best of all, they took great care in the experience they delivered. A clean, contemporary interior. A very nice greeting from our hostess, along with warm, thoughtful conversation. A seat at the sushi bar, in front of the owner and head sushi chef. He is very kind. As he works thoughtfully and precisely, you can tell he has great skill, with careful focus and preparation. The quality of the sushi is excellent. It's plated beautifully, with subtle touches of flavor complementing the rich, velvety cuts of fish. If you want to see what I'm describing, just look at the menu (with pictures) on the Eizen website and your mouth will water. We ordered two Eizen Nigiri sets, and wouldn't hesitate to order them again. Overall, a fabulous dining experience. We're looking forward to our next visit. Thank you, Eizen. read more

Got to try this place during their soft opening. We live in the neighborhood so had high hopes for a great place we could walk to. We came with a group of 9- put the 3 tween/teens at one table and adults sat at our own table. There was larger party than ours sitting at another table with a 4 top and a few two tops in addition to the counter- so while it is a smallish place, they maximized the interior for seating without making it feel crowded. The menu is limited while they are ramping up, we had the following: Appetizers Mixed tempura- very solid tempura, crispy and light. A couple shrimp thrown in with the vegetables. Crispy rice spicy tuna- liked the crisp but not rock hard rice. Chicken karage- I didn't personally try this one but it looked tasty and was a larger portion than the other appetizers. Sashimi plate Seared salmon carpaccio- salmon lightly torched (I'm guessing) with a yuzu dressing and some greens. Friends had the yellowtail version. Both were wonderful. Sushi/sashimi- had an assortment.of the bluefin, scallop, salmon, and albacore. Everything was pristine and nicely arranged. A+++ for the quality of the fish. Maki roll- we had a negi Hama- pretty standard with high quality fish. You don't need much when you have that! There is a small offering of sakes, teas, and some wine. I got a bottle of the suigei junmai and ended up sharing. Nice and clean sake- hadn't tried this particular one before but I'll be on the look out for it in the future. Hoping they expand the selection as they continue to ramp up! Despite being in soft opening mode- they accommodated my teenager asking for a California roll- she said it was a really good California roll. (It's not a menu item). Eizen did not disappoint- really looking forward to coming back! read more

Eizen Sushi is a great new spot that really puts the focus on the fish. Everything tasted clean, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared without being overcomplicated. The nigiri was beautifully cut with great texture, the fatty tuna was rich without feeling heavy, and the ikura absolutely popped! You can tell a lot of care goes into the sourcing and balance, from the rice to the toppings. Simple, refined, and very promising addition to the neighborhood. read more

We came on Valentines evening and had their omakase set that included miso soup w/prawn head, miso black cod, assorted sushi, and hand roll set w/uni, scallop and sweet shrimp. The set also came with dessert choice of ice cream and mochi. The food was incredible. Fish quality was great, with creative flavors on the sushi. The servers and chefs were very friendly and attentive and the place is very clean and minimalistic. Definitely worth visiting! read more

On our way home from work we passed a new sushi place on Washtington Blvd. Parking was easy on Yale Ave. just around the corner from recently opened Eizen Sushi and Sake Bar. We were welcomed by Co-owner and chef, Mikey, who served us 2 Eizen Nigiri sets. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered one of our favorite brands of sake, Kikusui. I requested a couple of substitutions that were easily accommodated on the 8 piece nigiri menu. Service was quick and efficient. The atmosphere was subtle and warm. No harsh lighting which is typical of most sushi places for some odd reason. Great music playlist, not too loud. You can have a conversation! The design is neutral, sparse and tasteful. This place will be humming shortly. Get in while you can. If you mention "Serene", you'll get a surpise treat. Definitely worth the trip. Welcome to the neighborhood Eizen.
