We used to love the food here. The clay pot biryani used to be so delicious. We ate here Friday and the food was horrible. We wasted so much money. It didn't have much taste or flavor to it and the quality and quantity was both bad. We were planning to try Shiva's, but we quickly realized that there was a band playing on the green and an incredible number of people - thinking we had no chance to be seated, we stood in line anyway. Surprise! they seated us with no problem - in part because they have lots of seating, but also the stiffest competition was for outside seating. I guess I would describe Shiva's decor as funky, modern Indian - very cozy, inviting and unmistakenly Indian. The staff were excellent - friendly, efficient, & kind. We were immediately seated and then had a discussion about the various menu options. I got a a large Taj Mahal beer (it's been a while) and the lamb Chettinadu with paneer added. I went with 9/10 spice level and was chastened to see it described as "American Hot" on the receipt. My wife did a mild, lamb Nilgiri and the garlic naan. Our waiter's guidance was spot on! We really enjoyed everything. My Chettinadu was rich, earthy, and complex - I would definitely order it again (after I try out some of their other offerings). The paneer addition was a really good move. The spice level was perfect - for the first 3 bites I was wondering if I should have upped it, but by bite 4 it was game on. It was spicy excellence that was not overwhelming. My wife was also impressed by her Nilgiri - she said it reminded her of a green mole from Mexico. Me and my coworkers were in town for a conference and this restaurant was in the shopping center right across from the convention center We were at. It's my birthday! And I eat Indian food every year so I decided to try out this place cause the reviews were pretty stellar. I was concerned about the price but they have a lunch special during the week that's actually pretty reasonable. I got the "Indian Summer" cocktail which wasn't super strong but very flavorful. For lunch I got the aloo gobi lunch set because I'm vegetarian. The lentil soup was very tasty and full of flavor. The aloo gobi was different than I'm used to as it wasn't actually a curry (which is what I thought I was getting) but the cauliflower and potatoes were very nice. Then there was some type of paneer curry that was good. And the naan was very buttery and blended well with the paneer curry. It was a lot of food for 14 bucks! The only two things I have bad to say is that occasionally the service was kind of slow even though there were only three tables of customers. And I ordered my food spicy and it wasn't. I later found out it was labeled on the check as "American spicy" so if you're a white person like me that can handle your spice, make sure they make it Indian spicy! Great ambiance, decent if slow service, and excellent food. Definitely worth trying especially during lunchtime! read more

While staying at the Marriott in Allen, I learned of this delightful Indian restaurant across the street. A friend and I walked to it, and were immediately seated in the cozy dining room for our meal. I got the vindaloo and asked for it "Indian spicy" and while it was spicy, it could have been even hotter for my taste. Still, the ice cold Taj Mahal and the spicy vindaloo made my evening, not to mention the competent service and smiles. If I ever find myself back in Allen, I know where to eat. read more

This restaurant has great decor inside and a great ambiance. They do have a bar if you're in the mood for a drink. We started off with a few appetizers to try which included samosas and onion pakora. Both were really good, and I highly recommend it. I ended up ordering the chicken tikka masala which ended up being creamier than what I'm used to. I asked for a level 7 spice, but next time, I know to ask for a higher level of spice. It was really good and flavored well. Most places tone it down, but this had the perfect kick and amazing flavor. The garlic butter naan was everything you'd hope for--soft, buttery, and packed with roasted garlic goodness. Lucy was so sweet and made me feel welcome right away, and Danesh went above and beyond with his cocktail recommendation. Shiva's is a modern Indian restaurant with chic ambiance, popular music, and a full bar. Our service was superb. The menu is complete with many expected offerings. I ordered veg kofta and was delighted. My companions ordered biryani, nilgani, and tandoor chicken. The plates are huge. We got to go boxes. I recommend the staff consider smaller portions. This was just too much food ha! The drink menu is good too. We ordered the bourbon drink which was so aromatic- love, and I also got the cocktail with fruity base and spices in it, imma have to edit this and get the name, srsly one if the best cocktails ever! My wife and I visited for lunch recently. The prices were a little high but we were interested in the reasonable lunch deal with salad, rice, naan, and a desert included. We were ready to order and they let us know that there were no lunch special because they were busy the day before. I guess being busy the day before means you don't get the salad, naan, or desert included in your lunch. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, onion pakora, vegetable samosas, and butter naan off the menu. Overall the food was good. The masala was smooth and very creamy. The pakoras were my favorite part of the meal and the vegetable somosas were mostly curried potato. After tax and tip it came out to more than we had bargained for going out for lunch. The service was a slow for a lunch sitting with only about 3 or 4 small groups in the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend if you are on a tight timeline for a work lunch. First time here, it seems it recently opened. The food is amazing on top of stellar service! I highly recommend! We ordered the mango lassi, punjabi chicken curry lunch special, tikka masala chicken curry lunch special, and chicken biryani. The mango lassi was really nice, pretty good! The lunch specials were awesome, they come with the entree, rice, a side of lentil soup, a side of vegetables (paneer and spinach for us), naan, and a side of kheer. The tikka masala was delicious in flavor, with a complex sweet and acidic tomato base mixed with a nice cream. It was the perfect combination of flavor and we really enjoyed this. The punjabi chicken curry was similar but had more of a butter flavor to it, but both were really great! Similarly the chicken biryani was super generous on spices and flavor, all three were really good! We also ordered the naan and it was pretty good, not amazing but still great! The lunch specials were only $15, and with all of the sides it comes with, I think it's a great deal! The rice kheer dessert was STELLAR, we had to order more! It was sweet and creamy with a rich milky flavor, probably the best kheer I have had. The service was awesome, they bring out everything fast and are super kind. The menu is vast (you absolutely can't go wrong) we had spoken to the servers and they have tried all the dishes and can guide you if you need a little help. The spice levels are also adjustable. The quantity of the food is enough to share and I recommend family style so you can try the various dishes. They also have an array of breads (naan and roti) and of course fusion drinks!!! The ambiance is welcoming and there is plenty of seating to accommodate large parties- so bring your family and friends!!! The service is superb and accommodating!!! We had the samosas (veg and chicken) they were HUGE and totally not your halidram ones- lol We also got a butter chicken that was oh so creamy and packed with flavor. Overall the food was good. A couple of dishes had a milder flavor than we were expecting but they weren't bad. Appreciate that they give you spice level options and it's consistent with the level requested. It is , however, it is a bit overpriced especially once you put the meal together. We had two dishes that were really great, one that was not, and two that were decent. The naan here was more cracker like than bread like. That wasn't my favorite. The butter masala and the vindaloo lunch were great. Beautiful presentation, great portions, price point in some dishes were good and not so good. The lamb kabob appetizer was not our favorite and we didn't read the fine print; we thought they were kabobs not the ground up lamb cut like thick gyro pieces. Everything else was just ok; nothing show stopping. I'm happy to see another ethnic restaurant in Watters Creek; but I may give it sometime before I come back.
