I walked in with some odd ends from my jewelry box that I didn't want to just throw away, but I also knew weren't worth much. I figured combined, I could melt the pieces down and make something small and new. Unfortunately, it was a bit of an embarrassing and insulting 5 minutes, which is probably even more time than he actually spent with us. He moved through them so quickly he noted two pieces were silver and nothing more, I had them reappraised knowing they were both white gold and did get confirmation that they were in fact white gold, not silver. While I'm not disappointed by the response that the pieces weren't worth much, something I already knew, I again was hoping I could scrap them and reuse the white gold (he called silver), diamond and blue topaz stones potentially, even if they were worth less than $100, thats mine to decide how to use. But because it wouldn't equate to enough to make something he thought was worth his time, he said hold on to them you can't reuse them. Had he given me more time than he did, I would have added that I was going to pay to have something remade, and given him more business, like I had in the past. I just wanted to use the old stone and metal some how if I could toward a new piece, not expecting that scrap metal to cover the cost by any means. However, when I was treated in a way that felt embarrassing, I didn't want to give them my business anymore. You can be honest and not be insulting, you also could attempt to do an appraisal with dignity and respect toward the customer.

I went to the store to pick it up today and showed the employee at the customer service desk, asking if this is normal practice at Long's? He agreed it that it was strange, but no apology or anything. I also had to ask for all of the packaging, travel case and cleaning cloth that normally comes with a purchase of the dollar value from this particular brand. Needless to say, this was a very strange experience for a multi-thousand dollar purchase and we will not be going back to Long's.
