On vacation in October (2023) from Hawaii to see a relative in Murphy. She hadn't been there in quite awhile but said the food was great. Boy were we surprised. After a long wait to seat 6 of us and another long way to get ordered and another long wait to get the food, we were ready to dig in. Food was terrible for all of us. Bad enough that only one person finished his meal. Food was not prepared properly; over and under cooked. I had fish and chips...fries were barely edible and the fish was like greasy leather. My brothers medium burger was burnt, so so it goes for all of us. May not visit Murphy again but if we do, we will definitely skip this place. read more

Wes was such a good waiter I just told him to order what he eats, did not disappoint, I wish the would sell the chutney for the Vietnamese spring rolls. Went to Murphy's chop house it was more dinner food, no offense but ShoeBooties Cafe deserves the title of best restaurant and in Andrews Hoppy Trout best breakfast HUDDLE HOUSE ALL THE WAY! I read the reviews on this restaurant and figured we would give it a try. Well worth the trip. I had the Jack Daniels steak. It wasn't as good as one I had back home, but it was a very close second. Came out just as I ordered it which is rare for a restaurant. They usually over cook it. My wife had a turkey sandwich which was more than she could eat. The employees were friendly. They were also taking reasonable precautions with the Covid still lurking. I will probably go again when we are back in the area. read more

There was no full bar available when we went. Not even vodka! Food was good but not great. Service was very good. It seemed like an "off" day. We went at 4:00 pm and we were the only ones there. It picked up a little bit by 5:00. Lots of families- which surprised me for the prices. $26 for Shrimp and grits seemed high to me. We used to love going to this establishment; however, our last two visits were not what we are used to. We had to wait for seemed forever, At least 30 minutes, the food was cold and the service was sub-par. We had taken some out of town guests with us and we're embarrassed. I received a small piece of quiche with fresh fruit...they were canned mandarin oranges. The grandkids loved the "fresh fruit"I will say THEY STILL have the BEST lobster bisque soup I have ever enjoyed!!!! Hopefully we will try them again in the future, but not right now. read more

They were out of the appetizers we wanted and we never got our bread we asked for. Decided to try Shoebooties based on recommendations. It took quite a while to get my fried oyster app, which scared me. I was expecting very overlooked over salted slime. They were told to me that they were from Florida and large. They were prob Maryland and small. They were all crust! Couldn't find the oyster lol. I ordered the quiche and am hoping that it will pass as a real quiche. The salad was atrocious . Bagged croutons and the usual cheap accompaniments. Yuck! OK 30 mins now for a warmed up quiche! This place was really good. During the times of COVID-19, the staff wore masks. The bartender, Shawn, made 3 drinks for my table. To test his creativity, we all choose different alcohols and let him make something of his choice. I was impressed. The crab, spinach and artichoke dip was pretty good. The veggie beef stew was really good! Fish and Chips were average, the beef with egg noodles dish was very salty, but still good enough to eat. The host who greeted us and seated us was obviously not thrilled to be there, and the server seem pretty overwhelmed, though she said she was new. I think the cafe is going for an intimate feel, but gives off a dingy, unkept feel with dim lighting and dark wood everywhere. read more

We had a larger party of 9. Our servers were very friendly, however the service was slow. It took 2.5 hours to eat and get out. The food was ok. I ordered the lemon herb crusted trout. It was fresh, but just room temperature by the time it was served. The baked potato was so undercooked and hard I could barely cut it apart. Wine was served in a hot glass that probably just came out of the dishwasher. They brought some ice cubes, but then watery red wine. Flew in from Los Angeles to visit my grandmother over the summer. My cousin and I decided to cruise around and check out places that caught our eye. ShoeBooties. What a name. Definitely sounded interesting and the building was attractively decorated, so we walked over to check out their menu. Dine-in for Two for $24.99. Bruschetta for an appetizer. Chicken Parmesan (for me) and chopped sirloin (for her). And finish off with a chocolate crème brûlée. So in we go with drooling mouths. The server, the waitress, and the set-up inside were lovely. (Posted a few quick pictures.) By chance, I had an opportunity to meet the owner, George, and (what seemed to be a few of) his family and friends. George was a very approachable, kind gentlemen, and his family greeted me with a smile. I read the brief history of how the name ShoeBooties came to be and the dream behind the name. The story is interesting and rather comedic from the first sentence on. Long story short, the food is fantastic in taste and presentation. The music filled the room wonderfully. There was a great atmosphere at ShoeBooties, with plenty of people enjoying their Friday evening. When I come back to visit my grandmother, I will definitely remember to stop by and visit George and his fantastic restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Got a side of fries that was ridiculously small, Chicken salad and tenders were dry, found a bone in the chicken salad, had to pay extra for a crossant instead of bread and it was dry and burnt. The Rubin sandwich was very thin with very little meat. The bottom of my plate had chocolate sauce on it (I didn't order anything chocolatey). Server was so very sweet and provided fantastic service. As we were driving to Bryson City for a weekend in the mountains, the other car in our caravan said to take a quick left and head for ShoeBooties. Her aunt lives in town and recommended it. Our group of 4 adults, 2 toddlers, and a baby were given two tables pushed together at the banquette in the mirrored room at the back. Someone came immediately to take our drink orders, though she wasn't old enough to get the alcohol drinks, so the gentlemen ended up waiting for the server to come a few minutes later. The menu has a lot of options of decent variety. I'd read from other Yelp reviews about the pecan crusted chicken, and so decided to try the pecan crusted trout. Every entree comes with vegetable of the day and a starch (potato) of your choosing. I opted for the oven roasted potatoes instead of the mashed that were listed on the menu with my trout. J got the baby back ribs with baked potato. We got the plain hamburger and fries for the little guy. They also do a fixed menu for 2: 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert for a set price. So we got to taste the spinach and artichoke dip ordered by our friends. The dip was very rich, with plenty of creaminess mixed in with the spinach and artichoke. It was served with what appeared to be fried spinach tortilla strips, which weren't quite sturdy enough for the dip. Overall, the food was A-OK. The focaccia and spiced olive oil appetizer was good, though the bread was greasy. The salad had fresh enough ingredients and plenty of croutons. I very much liked the texture of the pecan crust on my trout, but the fish was a tad dry. The potatoes were soft, without any of the crispy you expect from roasting. The vegetables were heavy on the green peppers and oregano and limp. J enjoyed his baby back ribs, but still managed to give me a bite. The sauce was sweet, spicy, and thick. The meat wasn't as tender as I'd hoped. The service was great. The atmosphere was welcoming, since everyone seemed to know everyone. I can see why this is a small-town favorite. read more

You would think being one of the only options in town you could get away with anything. I live in Chicago and travel for work, I eat out for lunch and dinner minimum five days a week. With that said this place is amazing!!! I was attracted to this place because their menu online showed there were some decent options for light eating. First time I got a seafood salad to go, shrimp and salmon grilled to perfection (i asked to have tomatoes added - I don't even like shrimp that much but this stuff was delicious, and tasted very fresh!) I loved it so much I got it the next day but this time I ordered two. Finally got to go in for dinner, shrimp crab cakes outstanding! Golden brown as promised, shrimp fantastic and juicy! (I would recommend asking for a lemon or two on the side - it is heavy and the dipping sauce it comes with is also heavy - they are great without anything too) Great wine, even the bread they bring you is excellent and tasty it's a focaccia packed with powerful herbs (fennel and Rosemary I think the server said) Entrees come with a salad or soup, and one side - really a bargain. Service was spot on as well friendly and efficient. Server seemed to be knowledgable about selections including the wine. She was also nice about my weird preference of picking four or five entrees and having her pick one and not tell me which one ;-) My only thought is if you get the seafood salad - the amount of vegetables / lettuce is a little on the light side but amount of seafood I think is plenty. My only regret was not figuring out a way to eat there for lunch and dinner everyday I was in Murphy. I'm not 100% sure I would want to live in Murphy (kinda like cities) BUT this restaurant is a selling point - it's that good!! Great music too! This place is a real treat! There are not too many restaurants in Murphy, this one was recommended to me by locals. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here, everyone was extremely friendly, love the red color and wooden floor, very romantic place for a date!! It happened to be a Wednesday night, so there was trivia going on, we played and lost but still won prizes! Food was delicious, I had seafood salad which I thought the price was amazingly inexpensive, came with fresh crab meat, salmon, shrimps, delicious! I selected peach muffin as a side since they were out of chocolate muffin. It was simply joy in my mouth, also interesting to have muffin as a side-dish for me! This was a complete fail sadly. While we had a pleasant server, she was hurt by the lack of any support in the kitchen or bar. All food took forever to come to the table and this was an off night with an empty restaurant. The quality was not great. For starter we decided on their Crab Artichoke Dip, (must try they are the best $10.50) after the appetizer wife had Parmesan Pork Chop with cup of soup (Lobster Bisque) on the side, (Pork Chop $ 11.00 and the soup $2.00 extra, good deal) I had a sandwich Garlic Roasted Lamb Philly, ($9.50) and to end the lunch we had dessert, White Chocolate Bread Pudding, ($3.50). Like always this place is a must try & their prices are reasonable. First of all, we were greeted or not greeted with a smart comment about breaching the invisible line of demarcation at the hostess desk, by a tall guy named Jeremy. I guess he wanted me to stand back about three feet from where i was standing. It was just after 11 am and they had just opened. So there was no-one standing there but us. That was strange.... Next we were seated and we were taken care of promptly with our water and our order. We were told by our waitress that there was new kitchen staff and it may take a little longer than usual. No problem, we were not in a hurry. We did have a bit of a wait and then We were served with the Orzo side salads that were so fresh tasting and very good! Then things started to turn bad. The food arrived. It was awful. I was not able to eat all of mine, and if we hadn't been so hungry, noone would have eaten theirs. The portion size of the rueben was ridiculously small and the sauces were watery and bland and honestly awful. I ordered a cranberry turkey sandwich that was the nastiest tasting sandwich i ever ate. There was no cranberry, just some pale pink sauce over turkey that tasted old on a croissant . There were two of these with french fries. The fries were good, but i couldn't eat both croissants Because of the taste and the old poultry smell. I ate one and left the other. A table mate ordered same, but with Orzo salad. Another ordered the Reuben, that was small and flat, No substance and a dab of dressing that was watery and drippy. The bread was smaller than my hand and this was $13. Another ordered the veggie wrap which was probably a safe choice, but was unremarkable , with chips that were over cooked. The kitchen sent out another side of Orzo and this batch was nothing like the first and had no taste, just like the pineapple nut pudding that tasted only of Jello instant vanilla pudding. Why was it called Pineapple? The pecans soaked in the pudding added nothing to the pudding flavor wise either. Our water was refilled frequently by the waitress and the rude host Jeremy. This is where it gets worse.... When we were asked how the food was, we told Jeremy, that it was really not good. His reply......well, we will hit it out of the park next time. To which my table mate says, There wont be a next time. Then Jeremy says oh well, thanks for your money! We all looked at each other and said, did he really say that? Yes he did. And not only did he act like an ass to us, he went to the kitchen and was relaying the conversation so loudly that we could hear him in the dining room. Then Jeremy comes back to our table as we were explaining what was going on with the waitress and paying our bills. He began to make a scene standing in the center isle of the place and yelling at us about how somehow the terrible food was our fault i guess. The point is he was embarrassing us and humiliating himself, however it seemed to make him proud. He yelled at us about how we should write a review, but said he was here and its all on camera and he knows the truth. WTF? Im not sure but his bizarre behavior was really threatening and all because we have an honest answer about the food. After this ordeal i visited the ladies room, which was very dirty, walls, doors, floors. The back door of the restaurant was the nastiest door i think i have ever seen, and in an eating establishment no less! The kitchen walls as seen from the walk back from the bathroom weren't any cleaner than the bathroom. Do yourself a favor and Do Not EAT HERE! . Jeremy should have been fired on the spot however, seems they were so short handed that they were allowing his behavior and turning a blind eye and ear i guess. We were there today for lunch, recommended by the Visitors' website. Waited 10 minutes to be seated. After being seated we waited 20 minutes until hubby flagged down one of the 3 wait staff. He explained that we weren't in his section but he was happy to help us. Several other patrons sent their food back while we were there. We were unable to order these items which were "out": bread, shrimp, coffee, fries, or crackers. We settled on lobster bisque which was very good, followed by chicken parmesan on linguini which was served very hot, and which had not much taste at all. Overheard another wait staffer explain that they were short staffed and that they three were all doing multiple tasks, all day long, every day for several days in a row. Where are the owners of this establishment? There was no management on premises. For around $40 for lunch, I expect very good service, and very good food. I understand we are living in difficult times, but these owners are going to lose this business if someone doesn't take it in hand. On the road saw the reviews and gave it a try. First red flag was the "Help Wanted" sign on front door. Second was the trash on the floor... nobody picked it up... waitresses were fighting in kitchen and "Chef Mike" (microwave) was hard at work warming up the food. "Hot plate" is always a que. Had to ask for silverware, waitress dropped them off I said thank you she said "no problem " how about "sorry you had to ask for silverware?" We got zero water refills almost like a carry out with out the ambiance. Lobster bisque was good, thus two stars.
