So I literally didn't get a picture of my food because I was too fast to wanting to eat it. When I say I didn't chew I mean it. My stomachs going to hate me....but seriously this was hands down the best burger I've had in a longgg time. I got the jalapeños burger. It had the right amount of everything on it. The bun was fresh. Veggies were fresh. Cheese and meat were delicious. I also order a sprite and they have THE GOOD ICE. If you know you know. Honestly one of the best places to stop and get really amazing fresh meals. They are really renowned for their chilli frys and it's for good reason. I was there again like 4 days ago and split a large order of the chilli cheese fries with my mom and also got the large cup of twist ice cream. The total cane out to like 12$.... To make things even better they started putting the fries in a bigger container so you actually get almost twice as much now for like the same price. Anyways if anyone on here has anything bad to say about the food then ignore them and give Shoestrings a try. Sonic the Hedgehog would approve the chili himself. (My order is the double pastrami burger, double bacon Swiss, deluxe chili fries and a mocha milk shakes. . Always hitting right. But honestly what keeps me coming back is how incredibly nice the whole team is. You can definitely definitely feel a family vibe. They are always smiling when they see me. Positive, friendly. This place reminds me of the A&W of my childhood and that was a while ago lol. The people are nice, the food tastes like someone actually cooked it , not microwaved it. The fries are tasty and not over-salted or over-greasy. This must be the place where people stop in on the drive back from tahoe , when parents are past the oh no will johnny be carsick again phase up on 50 . I dig their old timey little benches they have going behind the place. Perfect place to take a break from the road and walk around the shops there or main street. I'm not totally sure what the bathroom situation there is, I think they might be doing a porta potty at an adjacent building- been a couple weeks since I've gone so they may have opened up the real one if it was even open pre-covid.I like that it looks like the old-timey little burger and frost stands of my childhood and I'd support a place like this on that alone but the food is actually pretty decent for what it is. My family has been going there for 23yrs. I used to live in Diamond Springs and would take my kids there on the weekends. We have never been disappointed, the food is always hot and delicious! My fav is their chili-cheese fries, all I need to do is to drive-p and they know to put my order in, no guess work. My kids when they were younger loved their hamburgers and the grand kids their nuggets. I've also ventured out from my usual and had their Chicago dog and really enjoyed it, nice and juicy. Their food is cooked to order, it's not sitting under heat lamps so plan on waiting for a few minutes for them to prepare it for you. The mushrooms and onion rings were good, wouldn't get the zucchini again as they were rounds instead of spears, and mostly breading. We took it to go, and the table area is old and outside under a roof. They were cleaning the ice cream machine, which was a bummer as we wanted a malt. Just tried this place for the first time and it's such a gem. I miss old school type places like this and they are becoming increasingly difficult to find. The first time I try a new place I tend to order basic so I just got plain fries and a hot dog and Oreo shake. All great. The hot dog had a fantastic snap... unlike anything I have tasted, or heard, before. Fries were good and not overly salty. My favorite was the shake though. It's not ridiculously thick to where you are struggling to drink through the straw and it did not have too much Oreos that it was too sweet. Definitely will be back! read more

One word.... YUM!!! I haven't had anything there I don't like. The fries are good. The burgers are amazing. Personal favorites. Caliente Cheeseburger (has pepers, onion, green olive and black olives!) or the Pastrami cheese burger. It takes a little bit to get the food, but is more than worth the wait. Oh and they ice they use is the super small crushed ice. The only seating is outside, they have a heater for the cold days. But its great on summer days. Sometimes the best place to eat might not be the most obvious. Shoestring is one of those places. It is a small-town, hole-in-the-wall kind of place. However, don't let it's appearance deter you. Inside this small joint, I found one of the best burgers I have had in a while. After my buddy and I went on a bike ride, he told me of a small restaurant called Shoestring and the awesome pastrami burger they have. He took me after our ride and to say I was amazed would be an understatement. The burgers were juicy, the fries crispy, and the soda and shakes refreshing. The seating however was limited, and nearly all the seats were taken. The flies were also a bit of nuisance but other than those two things, Shoestrings was a hit in my book.
