This local bar/restaurant came highly recommended by a couple of the wineries we visited in the area. Truly an old school roadhouse, complete that day with a few motorcycles out front. You walk in to table seats to the right and bar seating to the left. Since it was still a beautiful fall day, we chose the fenced in patio. The menu includes a few burgers, sandwiches and a giant hot dog and few appetizers. Burgers can be ordered alone or with fries or onion rings. Each price listed. The burgers were a good half pound and cooked properly to order. Decent flavor. The crew thoroughly enjoyed the house Bloody Mary. The reduction in stars was due to the slow service. It started with waiting more than 15 minutes to just place a drink order. Then an hour to get our food. We arrived at 1:30 pm, I didn't feel they were that swamped to take that long. What a great setting, off the beaten path. Biker and people friendly mountain style. The burgers here are the draw. But in my opinion, their fried chicken is the bomb. All around good food, good service, good atmosphere. This place checks the boxes. I was impressed with the bar tender / server. She was friendly, attractive, personable, and efficient. She seamlessly worked the room without a hitch. The tables were clean, the condiments clean, and the soda was served in a large cup. I don't get the hype over this place. Maybe it's the aesthetic of it being a "biker bar" but I wasn't impressed. Inside is extremely dark but decently clean. We were given our drinks quickly but the food took almost an hour. It was not crowded at all. There were 2 people at the bar and a group of 4 people outside who already had their food when we walked by. My son and daughter really enjoyed their BLT's, my husbands Patty Melt was just mehh and my pulled pork sandwich was disgusting. It was full of fatty pieces, hardly any sauce and my bun was soaked and soggy from the grease. I will give credit to their top shelf Bloody Mary, it was very good! Wish it was a little more spicy but still one of the better ones I've had in awhile. This place has a certain clientele which can be a little off putting to some. Thankfully my family has a thicker skin so from the Trump flag we purposely Chose to sit under, stares and snarky comments about building the wall, it didn't faze us and we found it amusing. Please understand I'm not rating this place based on its political views and patrons, otherwise I'd give one star. The food wasn't that great and service was painfully slow for the amount of people inside. Saving grace was the BLT my kids devoured and the blood Mary's. Would we come back? The staff there is amazing and the ambiance is right on the money. My boss from the Cheveron next door needed a jumpstart on a night when the snow was about 2 foot deep. I walk into Bones and just yelled out "anyone have jumper cables" (because AAA would be hours.) I'm telling you that almost everyone in the place jumped up to help. We drove to our favorite winery in Placerville (Jodar) on Memorial Day thinking if we got there by 11:00 am, we would be out and back early enough to beat the traffic coming down Highway 50. Yeah....right. It was already backed up for a couple miles as we drove through Placerville at 10:30 am. So, when we left the winery, we decided to take the "back way" home. We were hungry, and fortunately, along the way we found Bones Roadhouse (with the help of our Yelp App, of course). Straight up loved the place right when we walked in. Intimate, cozy, sort of a biker bar with a family vibe. When we arrived, there were a few people seated at the bar, and two small groups at the tables. The tables all had menus on them, so we chose a table and reviewed the menu. Hamburgers, patty melts and BLTs, but also veggie burger options as well. We settled on the cheeseburger and fries, with a beer for my husband and a glass of wine for me. The burger was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Melted cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and grilled onions on a super soft bun. The fries were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Service was friendly. We did have to wait a bit for our burger, but we didn't mind because we were enjoying the mix of country and rock tunes coming from the jukebox. Also, you can watch the cooks at the grill, so you know they are working hard. Husband asked if I wanted to choose a couple songs to play on the jukebox, but I declined. Jukeboxes never work out for me; I always end up leaving before my songs get played, which would have been the case this time, too! At any rate, if you are in a hurry for your food, you might just want to drive yourself back into town and stop at McDonalds. Otherwise, pull up a table, order a drink and chill. We love stopping by Bones every time we go to California! Located near some amazing wineries, they are just a great place to go to. The burgers are huge!!!! I can't have gluten, so they put this huge hamburger patty on a bed of lettuce. I love how they worked around that allergy. We also love shopping for their t-shirts! I'd "check in" from Bones but I don't get a consistent cell signal down there! (AT&T). If you're going down there, there's a gas station across the street that'll save your a** if you forgot to fill up before you came (it's not that overpriced either). Bones used to be known for great burgers - not big, but great. Now they're much bigger! My meat-aholic husband barely made it through a double burger! Bones Roadhouse is a great place to get a burger off the beaten path or if you're looking to go for a drive up to the foothills. Parking is easy and plentiful. While it does have a biker bar ambience and vibe, it's not intimidating. The staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. The burgers are excellent. They're cooked and seasoned perfectly and the accompanying condiments are fresh. You can't go wrong with the fries or onion rings. They craft the burgers with meat trimmings from the Roseville meat company and they result in a tasty burger blend. Decent beer and cocktail list at fair prices. I have ordered burgers to go from Bones Roadhouse on my last two trips to the Placerville, CA area. Both times the burgers were cooked and topped exactly as requested and ready when promised. The location appears to be a typical roadside local spot, and that's exactly what drew me to it. They pack each item in its own bag so it's easy to identify every person's order without having to open each burger. The burgers are juicy and delicious (you'll need extra napkins) and the fries and onion rings are both great as well. Next time I will try eating in and have one of their specialty cocktails, all of which sounded amazing. read more

Wow bring an empty stomach because the burgers are big and greasy. The place is dark, clean, well air conditioned and a perfect roadhouse out here in winery land. My wife and I tried the Patty Melt on marbled rye with grilled onions, and onion rings. A good choice. Specialty ale pints were $5, nice. Our server was great and the burger was great but the dining room is kinda sleazy and dirty. As much as I love a good dive bar, burgers and beer, I guess I should not have brought my son here. The drunken couple at the bar dropping the F bomb every 10 seconds along with the seeping of cigarette smoke coming in from the folks just ourside the front door was a little much. Could be much better if they removed the old dusty magazines on the fireplace mantle and brightened the dining area. I'll try again later with my husband and be sure to bring my side arm. read more

The ice cold beer and heavily poured mixed drinks were the perfect companion to a summer's evening. This place is amazing! My wife and I were visiting our favorite winery Narrow Gate and we asked for food recommendations. Bones Roadhouse was the unanimous answer from the locals. My wife and I were welcomed by the bartender (which ended up being owner) and sat right away, the entire staff was very friendly and personable. I ordered the cheese burger and it was very well put together and tasty. My wife ordered BLT with garlic fries, she said it was the best BLT she has ever had. Too bad this place has really gone down in quality and food is just plain "bad" at least what 3 of us had. I got the turkey sandwich with cranberry and cream cheese and a 7-up. The sandwich was not good. It had about a 1/2 tsp. of cranberry and that was on the lower part of half of the sandwich, about a smear of cream cheese and some gloppy disgusting cheese all over it. Turkey itself was old tasting and the 7-up tasted like they needed to clean their drink dispensers, tasted off, way off. My son got a pastrami to go. When he got home and started to eat it, nothing but tough pastrami, no sour cream and just a horrible sandwich he told me. I got fries but gave them to him although I did taste one, so overly salty and tasted of old, old, old oil that needed to be changed because obviously too many things had been fried in it. My d-i-l got mozzarella sticks, very rubbery and her hamburger was weird tasting. Bones used to be their (my son and d-i-l's) favorite place to go but after this experience it will not be there "go to place" again. What a disappointment as we were going there to celebrate his b'day. I pretty much could take or leave this restaurant in the past but at least the few times I did accompany them it was decent. Must have a new owner post Covid! What a dump it is now! This was in May 2023 so a few weeks ago! read more
