I watched a waitress reach into the soup garnish and vegetable drawer with her bare hands, then use a towel to wipe chicken tenders straight out of the fryer. That was extremely unsanitary. My hubby had a cheeseburger, I had chicken tacos (they were out of beef), I read in the reviews that Jake makes an excellent lemon drop, I asked the bartender/cook if she could make me one, she said she didnt have the stuff, but I also overheard her saying Jake would be here tomorrow... The previous owners at least tried to run it like a business they cared about (although Denise sometimes acted like she couldn't be bothered, which was no surprise when she announced she was selling). I've tried to give this place second and third opportunities, but unfortunately the owner must be using it as a tax shelter. There is no way he is attempting to make money. High prices, terrible service, terrible attitude, terrible hygiene. They definitely have a "locals only" vibe. Fine, cater to the three drunks that frequent the place. Gas station/market service is awful! Market is supposed to open til 9 tonight, got there at 8:20 and the lady smoking a cigarette in front of the store made it very clear that they have been trying to close for 20 minutes because it's slow, though it was full of people. As I was walking in, she told me to hurry up. Never have I been talked to like this walking into a store, especially during working hours. I am so disappointed! Yelp has sometimes let me down but this time Yelp has let me down big time. Seriously, I used Yelp to find this place because it had an average star rating of 4.5 but something is really messed up here. This place is more of a dive bar than a place to eat. When you first go inside it's mainly one large bar with 3 small tables in the back for eating. I had to place my order at the bar and get my own drinks. There was one person cooking, bartending and cashiering. There was a guy who would help bring out the orders to your table, sometimes. Most of the time we had to go to the bar to pick up our food when it was ready. Okay I can deal with all of that but the price was crazy for what you get. There where three of us. We had one regular hamburger and 2 venison hamburger. We also had one margareta ( worst I've ever had pretty much no alcohol), one long island ice tea and a watered down scotch whiskey. Anyways the 3 burgers plus 3 drinks cost $70 with tax and tip!!! I have to say that it was the most expensive burger I have had in my entire life. The only reason why I am giving them 2 stars is because the burger was well cooked and I didn't make me sick afterwards. WOW amazing for $70 3 people could have had a much better meal at Red Lobster, Olive garden, or any chain. There wasn't even any view, you pretty much sat in a small back corner. Ah yes, another establishment with several signs that say things like "whiners pay extra," and "we make food at our own pace." Having signs like this is essentially telling customers to not complain and deal with 45 minutes waits and if they don't like it, don't come back. Been there a few times. First time it took 45 minutes to make 2 tacos. Next time I walk in and it's "busy" meaning there are about 10 people there and no seats available because that's about max capacity. Next time, my tacos come out nice and quick (25 minutes or so) and I find a nice long hair in them. Third time is a charm right? I guess I would be ok with waiting the 45 minutes if it means there's no hair. I didn't make a big deal out of it because I'm not confrontational with people, I leave yelp reviews instead. :) First place I've ever been to that charges a fee for taking food to go. First bar/restaurant/dive I've ever been to that asks you if you would like to leave a tip if you are paying with a debit/credit card. That's equivalent to hustling as far as I'm concerned. Can't afford to get a machine where the customer writes in a tip? Doubtful. This is simply the reality of being in a small town with little competition. Don't worry! You don't need to put up anymore anti-customer signs!! It's ok!! I won't return and either will any logical person who halfway cares about decent service. I should say that the bartender has always greeted me relatively quickly and gotten me a nice ice cold drink. So that earns them an entire star! Cheers! read more

This is an excellent little place to eat at and grab a strong, or soft drink. I do stress little (very small place, but very comfortable nonetheless). Tuesdays are dollar taco days and they're pretty good sized tacos, and they are very tasty. There are many, many types of hot sauces to pick from. I have lived in El Dorado county for 35 years and have been to the Knott Hole many times and had a pleasant experience in a cozy, friendly environment. Not the case yesterday! After a ride on motorcycles we stopped for gas and to rest outside of the bar on a bench. I went in to use the restroom and when I came out the owner came out drunk says " are you planning to come in and buy something as you used our bathroom and that costs me money". I said we bought gas! There were unkind words so we left before it got awful. As long as that owner is there he does not have my business. read more

The bartender. greeted us at the door and took care of us very well in spite of being very busy. This is a very small establishment and you will need to be okay with being in a crowd to enjoy yourself here. If you show up expecting 5 star , you'll be disappointed but, if you are okay with some company and are in the mood for some good ol' bar food , you'll leave happy. read more

I went here to have lunch while I was camping at sly park and was not impressed at all. It is connected to the gas station and seems like a gas station bar. It took a solid 25 minutes for a burger with grilled onions. Normally I am totally willing to wait for some good food but this was not a very good burger at all. The grilled onions were more of a charred consintincey and were not very flavorful. I do appreciate that it was all made to order but when the food is just ok I might as well have cooked it at my campsite. The service was what I would expect from a gas station bar. The waitress/cook/bartender was one in the same and not very welcoming. I would probably just say at camp next time and eat hot dogs. read more
