My wife and I have been in search of something more than just your standard rolls and we found it here at Shoga. We were initially drawn in by some of the awesome photos here on Yelp but were kind of disappointed at first when we arrived and didn't see anything on the menu like in the photos. The staff are very friendly on the phone and are comfortable with any questions you might have regarding the menu. If this is your first time, I recommend the teriyaki chicken, the curry tonkatsu, salmon crunch, rainbow roll, black eye, and the wasatch. The cheesecake is the best dessert at this spot hands down. Given the current situation, expect them to take credit card payment over the phone so as to avoid unnecessary interaction that may put both people at risk. -The curbside pickup. You will pull up to the restaurant right behind the "curbside pickup" sign. Dial the number, and the server will come out and provide your food already packed. Then you will provide signature for payment. The servers wear gloves for safety. It is up to you, but remember that the restaurant industry is in crisis, with many people out of work temporarily or losing their jobs. Enyx and his crew have always been awesome and deserve a tip for staying open and positive despite the current challenge. read more

A trustworthy friend of mine told me this is the place to go for fresh sushi (which is not that easy to find), so we stopped here on our way home from Provo on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm. There were a few tables sat, but no one at the bar. There were menus at the front, so we waited to be seated. No one came to the front or greeted us, so my BF went back to ask if we could grab a table. We figured out real quick that they were severely understaffed for the rush that came in after us -- only one friendly, positive waitress and two guys behind the fish counter. We felt bad for her, but she got it under control eventually. I hope the business owners figures out they need more people staffed on weekends. I could see a lot of pissed customers around the room with no drinks or food for a while. We ordered some large Sapporos and hot sake since they didn't have any cold sakes available yet they are on the menu. The drinks including water came out after we got the house salads, at least 20mins after we arrived. We only ordered one salad, but we got two and were charged for both. Luckily they were both good, and the dressing was tasty. The toro was good, not the best I've ever had. Love when they put wasabi relish on top, but that was not the case here. The Fresh Roll was by far my fave as I'm a sucker for cilantro, lemon and ponzu in my sushi. I liked the sprouts in the Spider Roll. All the fish and ingredients were fresh, so I would definitely consider coming back. The ambience is really nice, but the service is pretty slow considering they're understaffed. Long time due the review for Shoga...one of the few places open during the day of New Year's Eve! I have to say that thanks to Yelp I did not starve that day, as everything around was closed and Yelp brought me to the only open restaurant that popped up. My boyfriend, who grew up in this area, had little faith in a Japanese restaurant there. He thought everything would be fake and taste bland. He, like me, was surprised with the amount and quality of food we got. He basically ordered everything! Well, not everything but tons of food to share, that we could have perfectly shared among 4 people, not just the 2 of us! The service was super attentive and the place is very cozy and clean, comfortable booths and nice to the eye color palette. Presentation of the dishes was very nice, eye candy too. And I have to say I am glad we went there because we were already very full when we went to a posh dinner in Sundance...to find out the food was terrible. While Shoga's ramen isn't as good as Asa and it's sushi isn't as good as Itto which are both down the road the former does deliver solidly in both categories. The service has always been good and it's decor is nicely done with its dimly lit dining room. They also have a little more seating than Asa which is something to keep in mind on busy nights. We have come here every year for 6 years to celebrate my birthday. The sushi rolls are AMAZING and the cheesecake is divine. I highly recommend their sushi rolls (especially anything spicy)! They leave your mouth salivating for more even when you are nearly full to bursting. The service is great. We have always been seated within 30 seconds of walking in. And the wait staff always have a smile. When inside and seated there is a great date night atmosphere. The lights are slightly dimmed and they have nice background music, but the music isn't so loud that you can't hear anything else. We will definitely make this our special occasion go to spot! We gave this place a try because we were in the mood for something Asian and my son and I had a tough time finding something "asian" that wasnt panda express here in Provo/Orem, Utah. How hard could it be to cook a Teriyaki Dinner (Medium on the steak), Ramen, and create a roll and sashimi??? My wife and I have consistently coming to Shoga for years now. We keep coming back because of the atmosphere and excellent ramen and sushi. My go-to is the spicy miso ramen. Best ramen in Utah county. I gotta applaud the servers last night. The place was busy with all the after graduation dinners. The two ladies working was on top of it. Wow. What a find. In Utah for a ski trip and chose Shoga as it was open later than other sushi joints with better Yelp reviews. My daughter and I have a tradition of sushi after skiing and have dined at some of the West's best. We sat at the sushi bar with the owner/chef. Everything was beautifully presented, the fish was fresh off the plane and fantastic. Highly recommend the sashimi sampler. Ours had salmon, tuna, yellowtail, fluke, black flying fish roe, and the best escolar. So good. We had to round out the meal with some rolls.
