We tried this place after reading some of the reviews across various reviewing websites. We took the kids with us too as they have never experienced anything like this. Place was not too busy. Perfect for us. We all had the hibachi of some sort. All was good there. Big portions for the price. The soup was nothing great but drinkable. Salad was not edible at all. Watered down yum yum sauce is not a good substitute for a normal salad dressing. Also our son got too close to the cooking area and got his thumb burnt. No help from staff to correct the problem with ice or extra napkins. We had to get up and get it all on our own from across the restaurant. Would we go back....maybe without our son but hard to tell as this experience wasn't the best but not the worst. read more

I must say, I am quite impressed. I have been to a few Hibachi places in my day....and they always leave me yearning for more. Hibachi has always been like bad dinner theatre for me. But, I am happy to say that Shogun has changed my view of Hibachi. It has made me a true believer that shrimp flying through the air and onion volcanos CAN change the world. The decor of this place is truly top notch. Take a peek at the photos that I posted. Really, they didn't skimp with the design. Great fit and finishes. Love the black contrasted with bright red. It really gives it a certain flair. The bamboo centerpiece (where the host stand is) really is cool too. Kudos Shogun! I gotta say....the Sushi bar is quite small. And there is a reason why. I have eaten a lot of Sushi in my day....and while this Sushi wasn't the WORST I have ever had, it was definitely not the best. Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, macho man and California roll are what we got. It was all very underwhelming. Granted the sushi was an after thought and NOT the reason we came....I definitely would not recommend it nor would I get it again. All the staff here was an absolute pleasure. From the host to the server to our HILARIOUS Hibachi chef. Dude was funny, no joke. A good chef makes the entire Hibachi experience that much better! Very relatable and great skills. The Hibachi food itself was really really good. We got filet mignon, shrimp and chicken. I have to say, the portions were a little small in the meat department. But, the flavor was absolutely spot on and the cook on the meats was PERFECT. Everything was tender and juicy and ready lickity split! Each meal comes with soup, salad, noodles, appetizer shrimp (which we never got), noodles and rice (we upgraded to fried rice.) Every one of these things were very very good. The broth of the soup was dark and flavorful, the dressing on the salad was sweet and spicy, noodles were perfectly cooked and flavored to a T and the fried rice was simply stated but very good. On top of it all, this place was super clean and organized. Seriously, even the exhaust fan hoods were spotless....a true indicator of a clean establishment. Overall, this experience was more than favorable and we will definitely be back. Sans the Sushi and high hopes that we get our appetizer shrimp! read more

Very easy location to find off Hwy exit, parking open right by door. Interior is chic and modern with clean design elements and avoids the loudness problem found at other Akron area hibachis. Big, spacious tables that accommodated three kids, two in high chairs, and three adults with tons of elbow room. And we could hear each other! Staff was friendly and service quick. We didn't have to wait for table to fill to be served! Soup is good but salad disappointed- ginger dressing had no flavor. Chef had all the tricks and put on a great show! Stopped in here for lunch while in the area. What a awful place to eat. I was seated in the smaller, sushi side of the restaurant across from a table of employees who were eating lunch. Two of them were slurping their food and chewing with their mouths open so loudly I could hear them 20' away. They sounded like a couple of disgusting animals. I asked for a miso soup and seaweed salad. They did not have miso (!?) and instead I got clear soup. They were both decent. I then asked for a spicy tuna hand roll and an eel an avocado hand roll. Thirty minutes later they finally came out. Warm and not very good. Service sucked. Food was marginal. Not recommended. read more

Shogun is a lesson in great service. Our waiter, Ferry, was so sweet and really bent over backwards to provide us with an amazing experience. He poured our soy sauce, plated the side bowl of steamed rice, and boxed our leftovers for us, always with a smile. He always asked us to pardon his reach and thanked us at every chance. There is so much food included with the hibachi dinner that the price is worth it. Included with the meal is your choice of protein, a rice side, a noodle side, shrimp, salad, and soup. I normally don't eat the soup at hibachi places but this soup was delicious. Our chef was quick, entertaining, and humorous. It was an excellent experience in a beautiful, clean restaurant. read more

My family and I eat at Sushi places often, at least 3-4 times a month, this by far had to be the WORST we have had. We went early for dinner around 5:30 on a Thursday night, there were only three tables seated in the whole place, it took forever for anyone to come to our table to take our drink order. Another waiter then came out to take our food order and our sushi came out before our drinks! The sushi was not good, very over priced for what it was, the rice was hot and mushy, didn't even have the consistency of sushi, and the rolls fell apart....very poorly made. We will not be back here, spent over $86 dollars and left hungry and disappointing. read more

I had a Shrimp Tempura Roll that was delicious and fresh. The salad and soup was okay. Both tasted more bland than usual. My drink was delicious (couldn't remember the name of it). Worst place I've been to in a while. I go out to eat a lot cause I travel and I have been to some shit holes. But this place tops it. We only seen the server when she sat us and took are orders. The chef didn't cook are food all the way and was cold still. A mostly average Japanese steakhouse. Me and my wife love Japanese steakhouses, so I would say we have a good perspective on the good ones vs bad ones. I guess you get what you pay for - this is quite a bit cheaper than a Wasabi, but the quality just wasnt there. I'm not sure if the location is bad, but the restaurant was very empty on a Friday night and the food seemed old. The lettuce in our salad was starting to turn brown, the soup tasted a little different than normal and the chicken and rice just didnt seem as high of quality as other steakhouses. We will stick with A1 Japan, Wasabi or someplace similar to those. read more

I've never given a bad review, but this deserves nothing more. It was by far the worst Shoguns I've ever eaten at. It's hard to describe "why", it was just really bad quality food. The meat didn't taste fresh, the noodles had an old fishy taste. It was a large quantity of food, but my son & I left with our plates full. The other two guest (whom we did not know) also left without eating hardly any of their food. If you're looking for Japanese in this area, I would highly recommend finding another restaurant other than this place. read more

Two words...THE WORST. We have eaten here before, and didn't have a complaint. This time was completely different. Our steak and chicken were over cooked. The eggs were overcooked and crunchy in our fried rice. That was bad enough. But then while we are eating, the waitress brings out the birthday pineapples, which we weren't ready for, but okay, then, immediately shoves to go boxes and the check at me. When I attempted to speak with someone in charge, they didn't speak English. The same waitress that I had the complaint about very angrily spoke in Japanese to the manager...and I was told sorry sorry, see you next time. What??? Please take my advice, just go to Wasabi. Sure, it's busier. You might wait for a table. But the food is consistently good, the waitresses are friendly and if you do have an issue, you can actually speak to someone. read more

Ordered Sushi for takeout, the selection is fair, some unique sushi items are not available, but it is Ohio after all and the average Buckeye hasn't developed a taste for Onkimo or Uni. The sushi was pretty fresh and the pieces nicely sized. But, the rice ball underneath was about 2 times the size it should have been, this makes for a very large chunk of nigiri to try and eat. They did have fresh water eel, so we were happy with that. We got a couple of specialty rolls and they were nice, we especially enjoyed the roll with the pink Mame Nori wrapper, the sauce on it was excellent. All in all we will order again, but improvements could be made. read more

Not at all worth it for the expensive dime from the menu. We waited five minutes to be seated. The area is so big, it's uncomfortable. We sat at a tiny booth and waited a while before our server came over even though it was not busy at all. The drink menu is short for somewhere that has a bar. It's your standard Japanese food with a sushi menu. If you're going to come here, don't come for the sushi. The flavor was bland. The hibachi dinners we ordered came out cold, and still gave my friend and I heartburn. The bill was overly expensive for the service and food. read more

At first sight the place looks below than regular, but food and service are outstanding for a fair price. The manager and the sushiman (Quan?) really knows how to be nice and warm to guests. If you like sushi &sashimi try sushi for two is plenty of excelent well prepared japanese style food. If you want a intercultural funny exchange; talk to Quan(?) the sushiman. I will have nightmares of this place. It began with waiting 30 minutes for our table when we had reservations. Once we sat it took about 30 more minutes for a waiter to come. 10 minutes more for our drinks. He came back 5 minutes after that to ask if we had gotten out appetizers. And obviously we had not. (Apparently it was his second day on the job, but the restaurant did not have a regular waiter assisting- bad call.) Then a hibachi chef went to a table that sat down after us. We asked the issue and the waiter had no idea (we later found out he didn't know how to enter orders into the computer so the chef wouldn't know to come to us). But it gets so much worse. After 10 more minutes (mind you we arrived 1.5 hours before this) our chef comes! We were ecstatic. He does part of his show and it is great. Then he puts noodles down on our plates. An earwig crawls out of my friend's noodles. All the chef can say is "sorry" and keeps going after we take care of it. He is grossed out when we try to hand him the napkin with the bug so that it can be thrown away and he doesn't grab my friend a new plate. Two people at our table ask for the manager. At this time a waiting table has a couple people leave after seeing this. After the chef is done the 2 from our table leave without eating. I can't argue as I can't eat mine either. Finally the manager comes out. She does not seem concerned with our issues - after all the waiter is only on his second day and she hadn't heard about earwigs yet - just gnats. But she will give us a discount as we were so persistent. After 10 more minutes she comes back and is very happy that the waiter had not entered in our meal yet so she could change the order to cheaper meals and the owners wouldn't know. All in all I had $4 taken off a $19 dinner for food that I couldn't eat as I was so grossed out. Then I needed to pay but the waiter never came back. I took my card and receipt up to a busboy who started to say he couldn't but then realized there were no waiters in the room. Eventually he came back but not before I heard another large table complaining about the service they received. We should've just left with the other 2 at our table. What a waste. read more

We just ordered a Mother's Day meal for my wife which cost over $100 for the four of us. We ordered fried rice with all of the meals and got white rice. No sauce was added to any of our meals. The filet tasted like over boiled card board the chicken tasted like salt and Dry as can be scallops and plain over cooked shrimp. We called shogun and they were unwilling to do anything about it. I would give them negative stars if possible. There are much better options in the area. What a waist of money!!! During this time please help other restaurants in the area before ordering from shogun. You would think a small restaurant like this would be willing to do whatever it takes to keep costumers. I didn't want anything for free but offer a desert or to deliver the sauce or recook the meat. What a shame. read more

My family, a party of 7 just ate here for Mother's Day. The restaurant is clean, spacious, and the wait wasn't long because we had a reservation. The staff is really nice. Our drinks came quickly. The Moscato and Strawberry Daquiry were excellent. The food is just okay compared to other Hibachi restaurants. The salad had a watery, tasteless dressing on it. It was not ginger. We were also given a tan sauce our chef called "yummy" sauce. This was also watery with no taste. The mushroom soup was good. Our party ordered some combination of Hibachi chicken, shrimp, or steak. My sister was asked how she wanted her steak cooked. Although she told the chef "medium", he cooked her steak well done. The shrimp was a little tough but the chicken was tender and well cooked. The grilled vegetables were amazing! Overall, the food was decent, but all of us had to add salt/pepper and soy sauce to season it better. The condiment holders felt greasy. What sets Shogun apart is its relaxed atmosphere and comfortable seating. Unlike other Hibachi places, we were not rushed. We did notice that female patrons at their own table received roses for Mother's Day at the end of their dinner. However, our table did not receive roses after we paid the bill. When my brother asked a waiter about it, he did not give an explanation. He just acknowledged that other tables received roses, and went and retrieved roses for the five women in our party. Terrible table side chef, no personality or entertainment other than making noise with his spatula. I ended up with egg shells in my rice after he messed up cracking an egg. We tried to eat here last night (1/8/16) with a party of 3, we called and asked wait time and we were told 15-20 minutes from when we arrived. We had wanted to try it since it opened and finally had the opportunity to do so. We arrived a little before 7 maybe 6:50 and we were told 15 to 20 minutes. After waiting 55 minutes (7:45) we decided to leave as there were 3 tables open and they weren't seating anyone. The lady next to us had a reservation for 7:15 and had not been seated yet either. Our 5 year old was about as patient as you could ask of a small child but he was getting antsy and we left. It appeared the hostess was on an island with no help from any manager, not really all that comforting.
