Although none of the rolls are labeled as GF, this has never been an issue for my husband before. Despite asking for GF soy sauce, our waiter did not know about the rolls containing gluten. This was far from our first experience with K-pot cuisine, but I have never seen meat slices this thin in my 36 years. The crab? Oh no, there was nothing to eat -- it was the size of a child's palm. The sushi was absolutely flavorless. When the waiter saw that we had food left on the table (because it was not tasty!), he told us that wasting food costs $10.99 per pound, and that we would have to pay extra for the bad food we didn't finish. Well, while he wasn't looking, I had to go and throw away some of the sushi, because paying twice for terrible sushi is completely absurd. I asked if they had anything special for birthdays. He said yes, asked for my daughter's ID, confirmed that it was her birthday that day, and what do you think happened next? Nothing!! He didn't bring her anything. No congratulations. Came in a large party which the servers neglected severely, they didn't even finish handing out drinks and left us to have to get them ourselves from the drink cart. The wait on food was abysmal as we waited upwards of 2 hours for our food. When it came out it was cold, discolored, and somehow overcooked. I got the shrimp and steak hibachi. The steak was grey cold, and rubbery, and the shrimp was cold, unevenly cooked and tasteless. Everyone in the party had the same experience. Staff was insanely rude to us and the only solution we were offered was to have our food microwaved for us. Not even joking. The manager said "we can microwave it for you" There was no resolution to our food and after a whole hour of back and forth we only got a measly 15% off of an almost $200 bill which when reviewed was done purposely incorrect so they would still make more money than they should've. One of the guests in our party expressed how she felt, exclaiming that the whole ordeal was stupid. I've never tried the hot pot (I definitely want to!) but the sushi is my favorite in the area. They have a good variety of rolls and the prices are reasonable. They even have an all you can eat sushi menu for $28. Today, I tried the vegetable roll, the tuna avocado roll, and the AAC roll (avocado, asparagus, and cucumber). All were great and they gave a large portion of ginger on the side which made me happy. Service was excellent as well - my water glass was never empty. I will be back again for sure! read more

This was my second Kintaro location and I was looking forward to trying this one out after loving the food at the Brooklyn location, but unfortunately there wasn't as much seasoning in the hibachi selection at this location compared to the other one. My waiter was attentive, explained the details of the menu, how the process worked, and cautioned me against ordering too much food at one time since wasting food could result in an added charge. On the first night of my trip to Akron, my team of 5 decided to experience hot pot together here in Ohio! Luckily our friend is a hot pot expert and knew exactly what to order for all of us to share. We did the all you can eat style, which usually means the staff will keep bringing out small plates of your orders as you continue cooking in the broth and eating. We came at the end of a day with bad weather, so I think maybe the service was a little impacted by that. The sauce station was out of a lot of common toppings like garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and more. The meat was pretty good quality! We were not also allowed to order sushi if ordering hot pot. We've always been happy with the hotpot here! Pro tip: timing wise, the busier they are, the longer you'll have to wait. So gauge how busy they are and if you know you're going to order more, place that order when you're halfway finish with your current meal so it'll be ready sooner! That's endless too. Service has never failed me here. They're always fast moving and polite, even when you consider they're understaffed for their popularity. As is tradition for our annual Martin Luther King Day expedition, we wanted to have lunch or dinner at a hot pot restaurant. We tried Fuji first, but due to the snowpocalyspe, the staff there said they could not serve us. Undaunted, we proceeded to Kintaro Sushi & Hot Pot with high hopes. On entering, the host immediately began to explain the AYCE sushi process, so before he got too deep, I interrupted and asked if we could do the AYCE hot pot instead. Without missing a beat, he then tonelessly went into the hot pot process. After acknowledging that uneaten food would be billed to us at $10.99 per pound, we were led across the labyrinthine restaurant to a hot pot table on the far side. After a couple of minutes, a masked waitress dropped off paper menus and pens at our table, and took our drink orders. While we struggled with a bit of a language barrier, we eventually communicated that we wanted two hot teas, a bubble tea, and a Pepsi. The kids and I then proceeded to negotiate on who was going to order what for our hot pot extravaganza, all while keeping in the back of our minds that if we picked something that no one liked, we would have to pay the wasted food fee. Returning shortly with our drinks, the waitress wordless looked over our circled menu choices, nodded, and then disappeared. Some minutes later, she returned and activated the hot pot table and poured the two halves of our stock soups: Chinese Herb and Sichuan Spicy. She also pointed us in the direction of the self-service sauce bar. Being huge sauce fans, we dove in to the sauce bar with gusto, with each of us coming up with a couple of different concoctions. After an average wait, we could hear the squeaky food delivery cart heading our way, and knew that our moment of glory was nearly upon us. Our mouths watered like Pavlov's dogs at the squeak of the cart's wheels, so we were at full attention when it arrived with plate after plate of our raw ingredients. In short order our table was covered with plates, and the jockeying for position in the hot pots began! Over the course of the next hour, we devoured to the last morsel all 17 of the ingredients we ordered, got seconds on 9 of them, and thirds on 4. As a family, we all really enjoyed the rich flavours of both of our soup bases, but -unsurprisingly given our preference for spicy food- the Sichuan Spicy was the hands-down favourite. While we enjoy Rice Noodles, this hot pot was much like previous ones, and getting the noodles out of the pot after cooking was a real mess, and always hard to split up when sharing them between people. The various meats we ordered ranged from average (Chicken Meat, Crab Stick) to very good (Homemade Fish Ball, Squid) to excellent (Pork Slice, Fatty Beef). Likewise with the vegetables, as they ranged from ok (Fried Tofu) to average (Spinach, Potato), to good (Taro, Chinese Cabbage, Seaweed), very good (Wood Ear), and excellent (Lotus Root). Service at the restaurant was, pretty hit or miss. Regardless of the language barrier, the waitress did a great job on our first set of drink refills, as they were delivered to table just before our original drinks ran dry. Likewise she did a good job getting our seconds order on the food before we had completely wrapped up the firsts. However after that, her visits to our table became much less frequent. Our next drink refills were long after our glasses were dry, and we ordered our thirds on the food several minutes after finishing the seconds. Perhaps she was trying to give us the hint to move on? No matter, we still left a 20% tip. Speaking of bills, ours was $81.82 after tax but before tip. That may have sounded like a lot for lunch, but it was very reasonable considering what we got! Tried Kintaro tonight and so glad I did! Delicious sushi and sashimi! The concept is unique for the Akron area. It's an all-you-can-eat concept, but without going up to a buffet area. We were welcomed one inside the restaurant and the menus were explained to us. One can choose the hot pot or sushi menu. I chose the sushi, and the menu was extensive. How it works is that after being seated, someone came to take our drink order and brought pens to the table. The pens are used to mark on the paper menu what one wants to order. Once our food order was taken, plates, forks, chopsticks, etc. were brought to the table. The sushi is amazing and freshly made to order. Many unique rolls here! The larger rolls are named after car companies. Fun! All staff members work hard here! They are very attentive to customers and the food is delicious. Everyone was friendly and we were thanked for eating there. Love how Kintaro is decorated! I highly recommend the avocado salad and naruto roll, and clam sashimi. Yummy!
