Newly opened in Rosenberg. Not on chain website yet, but I'm assuming it is part of the chain based on the online menu. No hostess when we arrived. Bartender never noticed us until approached directly, even though we'd been drumming our fingers at the hostess stand for several minutes. Decided to try sake, featured at the top of their drinks page. They were out of every single unflavored by-the-glass sake on the menu (three of them). Offered me a larger bottle they did have, but no discount on it, which I felt would have been appropriate considering they were out of everything smaller. How can they be out, anyway?! They just opened!! Much noise (of people chattering and shouting type) from the kitchen. Need better sound insulation or a quieter staff, IMHO - at these prices, I don't expect to have to listen to employees' conversations. I also don't expect paper napkins! I was pretty grumpy at this point. Should have finished husband's drink (I was in cut-nose-off-to-spite-face mode, as in "if I can't have sake I don't want anything") and left, but ordered a couple of appetizers, only. (No way was I dropping a bunch of money here after the annoyances!) The food was actually pretty good. "Crab" puffs didn't have any more crab than most places (i.e., none detectable), but they were crispy and tasty, and nicely presented. Tempura vegetables were good but a) boy did they take a long time to arrive considering the restaurant was practically empty and b) I'd have preferred a different sauce than the tasteless soupy thing that came with them. That sort of sauce seems to be the norm based on a web search, though - I tried Googling, but I haven't been able to find the sauce we used to get with tempura onion rings at the Yakitori II on Guam. The decor is very nice and our booth was very comfortable. I hadn't expected a complete redo from the previous, quickly failed, restaurant, and was pleasantly surprised. Having written this review, I'll probably give them another try just based on the food and decor, and the fact that they had enough sense to get a liquor license *before* they opened. (Many restaurants in this area have opened with an application in the window but no bar at the time they open, nor for many weeks to months afterward. Apparently many people who open restaurants in this area are stupid.) I'm still pretty annoyed that they didn't try to do *something* to make up to me that they were completely out of every drink I ordered, drinks that were featured at the top of their drinks page! If they had just offered me something, anything to make up, I would have dropped $70 or more and been back for sure. I would rather give this place 2.5 stars but that isn't an option. Let me just say this place isn't terrible, it just isn't great. It pricey for not being great. The rice and crab they use in their rolls is dry. A lot of what they must season their stuff for their sushi rolls is salty because their rolls taste salty. I purposely don't get fish in my rolls (just shellfish) yet they tasted super fishy. Their service is also unjustifiably slow. We waited 15 minutes for our check, and only 15 because I had to ask for it. I would try the hibachi side next time to see if it's better. Shogun isn't my cup of tea for sushi. If I ate it again it would be because I was craving it, I don't want Kroger sushi and I don't want to drive to the land of sugar. But it won't be my first choice. I think they need to fine tune some things and bring their prices down while they are figuring it out. read more

We do come here often and order Sushi and edamame. We share a roll because they are big, and we always get dessert. The volcano roll is a favorite, and we've tried the crunchy roll and the veggie roll as well. Always good, always fresh. We have never done the hibatchi side, it is just not our thing. Service is horrible. I ordered tofu for my son and pepper steak tuna for myself. The tuna came out first and we waited for the tofu for like 15 minutes then I get the feeling the waiter didn't put it in. So I went to the front and ask if she put in the tofu and she check her screen and I can tell they didn't put it in. So she pretended to go to the kitchen as if she's checking on it when in reality she probably told the cook to fry some tofu. Just be honest at least. And the waiter didn't even repeat the order back so at least we can have a rapport whether you got the order correctly. And don't serve one dish on the table without the other person's dish. That's just proper dining etiquette. The waitress just sitting around on her phone thinking she's done. Her body language tells me she only put that one order in. Went in at about 3:00pm on a Friday. We were the only customers in the restaurant, service was quick and the food came out fast. Ordered Tepenyake Chicken and it smelled good, the presentation was good, but the chicken had no flavor and had the consistency of rubber. Will never eat there again, had an upset stomach after only eating 5 bits of chicken. Came here on a Sunday Night for a celebratory dinner. Hostess wasn't the friendliest person while taking our drink orders. Menu was easy to order from but what worried me the most was how fast our entrees came. If I could give zero stars I would. My family and I just left from this establishment. This is a place we have visited before the service at the cook top is not the same service you get at a regular table. At least we get our food there. The service today was absolutely horrible. We were assigned to a waiter who came twice the entire hour and a half we were there. When she brought us the food she threw it on the table. I noticed mushrooms on my plate which I requested not to be in my main dish and she stated when I received my food that's just how it comes and walked away this was the last time she came to the table. I had previously asked for silverware and she never brought it back. I had to go to the bar and get them myself. I then went to search for a manager and explained the situation. She quickly came to get my plate and get me a new one without the mushrooms. The rest of my family finished their food and my food still hadn't made it back to the table. At this point it had been another 30 minutes. I went back to the manager and inquired about my food and she stated they are still working on it. I told her to just take my meal off so I could just pay for my family's food and leave. I paid for my food then I pulled her to the side and had a conversation about my experience. As I looked around I began to notice we were the only African Americans in the building and we had been given the worst treatment. I explained that to her as well. Her response was we are super busy. I believe she is a manager, anyway, she took care of us last time, she was rude, but we thought she just had a a bad day, well she saw is come in, and took the table from the waitress that was about to take care of us, then she was even more rude, never came to ask if we needed anything else, i called her to ask for more sushi for my husband, she never came back, and when she brought our check, I said I'm sorry my son would like somecrab puffs to go, she looked at me with such anger while slowly crumpling the receipt right in front of us walking away and bringing the crab puffs in a plate. I thought the food here is was pretty good. Presentation was nice. The quality of sushi was some of the best I've had and definitely better than what the previous reviews may otherwise indicate. The service was a bit slow but I'm not going to discount them. It's a sushi joint and there's alot of items made on the spot that requires a little more time. I'll wait for quality meat. The lemonade I asked for tasted like a mix of sprite and lemonade--which I DIS NOT ask for. The salad was slathered in what can only be described as dressing--bland, watery and tasteless dressing. The hibachi chicken and shrimp with fried rice I ordered was delivered to the table in a timely manner; however, my chicken was slathered in teriyaki sauce, the shrimp and the vegetables wet both cold and overcooked. Oh wow, I really should've looked at some of these views beforehand. So I love Japanese cuisine, and I can be really picky so I've always avoided this place but I was craving a seaweed salad and it's 5 minutes from my house. So I thought what the heck I'll give it a shot, huge mistake. First of all, this place is way over priced. Usually, I get sushi combos elsewhere and for the price you get a miso and salad for free and that wasn't the case here. The pricing wasn't my biggest worry though. My server was really sweet and helpful, I wish I could've gotten her name, she has pink or purple hair, super sweet. But in my sushi combo on the menu it said it came with white fish, which everywhere else I've been that means escolar which I my favorite type of fish. So I got my order and it was red snapper, and I'm thinking okay these people are super cheap. So I simply asked the waitress about my order and I really didn't want to complain but she went ahead and asked Cindy behind the bar, I'm not sure if she was a manager or what her job title was but she instantly rolled her eyes and started yelling something in whatever language they all spoke and just came over to me, didn't smile or anything and informed me that if I wanted escolar it would be a 1$ charge. So usually this wouldn't be a big deal BUT she was so rude and you can tell when people are talking crap about you no matter what language you speak. So I was like, I'm okay, not wanting to give this restaurant anymore then I already owed. So moral of the story is that as long as Cindy works there. You will lose customers. And then I read the comment about them being racists and I guess that could've been it too. The food isn't good enough to act like your crap don't stink. We just left the Rosenberg location and I was highly disappointed with the service. First of all, the cook only gave my son half a bowl of fried rice, even though I ordered his own, adult size dinner. When he handed him the bowl, he just looked at me and turned away when I gave him the look of disbelief. I ordered the steak and shrimp dinner for my son and I separately, (note, not a combo plate as you pay for each separately), and I only received half of a portion of my steak As the cook was serving the food, he didn't give my son or I any shrimp. I then told him the only orders that had shrimp was my steak and shrimp dinner for my son and I. He then took the shrimp of my other's guest, my mother, plate and gave SOME to my son and I. At this time, the whole table had received shrimp except for us! He then asked if me if my son and I split the steak. I told him no, he and I both ordered a full steak and shrimp dinners. He proceeded to give my son half a portion and me the other half. Well I thought he would have brought out another steak but he did not! When the waiter returned, I told him I was missing my steak because my son and I had only received half a portion. He tells me if I wanted it to go or to bring it out. I told him to either bring it or just take OFF the price for the steak from the dinner (again, this is a dinner where you order and are charged separately for the two things you order). Well the cook returns and tells me he split the steak for my son and I. I tell him that we BOTH ordered two dinners! He leaves and the waiter returns to tell me the same exact thing. I told him, look at my plate, I received half a portion of the steak and I didn't eat it because I wanted you to see the half portion of it because I had a feeling this wasn't going to end pretty. He leaves again, comes back and tells me the cook gave the other steak to one of my other guest. So, my other guest ate two separate steak dinners??? Well my other guest, my father, tells me he only received his portion which I told him I NOTICED because I was still waiting to receive my full portion of my steak dinner!! Well the waiter just leaves me with this same story and I just asked for the check. When the checked arrived, I noticed I did get charge for my two separate steak and shrimp dinners at FULL price, and not just get charged for the shrimp in one of the dinners as my son and I only received half a portion of steak each!!! Since the waiter and the cook were not going to fix this issue by either cooking my missing steak or deducting it from the order, I MADE SURE THE TIP WAS ***PORTIONED*** TO THE SERVICED RECEIVED, ZERO!!! I have frequented this place several times since I moved to this area and I tolerated the long/slow service ENOUGH!!! I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN! The prices do not match the HORRIBLE SERVICE!! My husband ordered the steak bento box and I ordered the salmon. I promise it didn't look or taste great at all! The rice spelled burnt so I didn't attempt to eat it and it honestly killed my appetite. My husband rice was the same deal! I only ate 1 bite and couldn't stomach the rest. So we call over the waitress and ask her to smell the rice she says "well we sold a lot if rice today" I ask for the manager she replies she is the manager and ower. I've been here twice and have been very disappointed in the sushi both times. The price is high for low quality fish. I got tuna, salmon, and yellowtail rolls to go and they were tiny and seaweed wrapped around the outside instead of rice. So it tasted completely like seaweed. Disappointed. Horrible customer service alert!!! I was taken here for a surprise birthday dinner by my fiancé and was excited to try this place out. We opted not to do the hibachi bc we were in a hurry to get to a movie. The soup and salad were great and then our entrees came out and it went downhill from there. The entree came out literally 3 minutes after the soup/salad so we didn't have time to really enjoy it. So when getting to the entree, the food was really cold. We called over our waitress to tell her the food was cold and she began to tell us when she brought it out the plate was steaming. I explained to her maybe so but just 5 minutes later the food was cold so there's no way it went from steaming to ice cold that fast. She continued to go back and forth with us about the food as if she didn't believe that it was cold. About 5 minutes later she is still combatting with us so the manager comes over and offers to remake the food. At this point I was so disgusted with the service I told my fiancé that I wanted to leave. We paid for our soups and salads and went to the Mexican restaurant across the street which was so much better!
