Philadelphia Hand Roll Unagi Hand Roll
Tracey Z.

Came here for lunch on a Friday with a friend. We were seated right away because there was only one other party there. Our server was attentive in the beginning but then he would just sit at a table and talk to his friends. I got two hand rolls - the unagi and the philadelphia. The eel was well prepared with great flavor. The philadelphia was a pretty standard roll.

I've been to the Top Sushi on Westheimer before for lunch and it was good so I thought I'd drop by the new Rosenberg location for happy hour. Overall, the food was not pretty, but tasted pretty bland. The only things that were memorable weren't a positive thing. The meat in my nabeyaki udon soup were so chewy it was like eating jerky. The Louis V roll was so salty and sitting in the sauce so long that it just fell apart when you picked it up. Monkey brain was good. Baked mussels were ok. The tempura vegetables were ok but some were cut too thick so it wasn't cooked enough. The agedashi tofu was light and perfectly cooked. The service was nice. My waiter was pretty attentive. The ambiance was pretty. We sat near the back and got to see the man made retention pond but it was nice. With so many sushi and Japanese options around I don't think I can say I would return yet but we shall see.

I have been waiting for this place to open up for a while after seeing the sign up when I drove by. I decided to try this place out during their happy hour. They had a lion dance performance for Lunar New Years the day I went and it was awesome!! I tried many dishes but my fav was the uni. The sea urchin was fresh and did not have a big ocean taste compared to other places I've tried in the past and also the tuna tataki was delicious!! The sashimi pieces was a little small compared to a lot of places but overall, the freshness and taste was good on everything we ordered. My waitress was still new and was not sure on something's but the manager was able to step in and assist to make sure everything was correct.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cool ambience. If you sit in the back you cab watch the ducks in the overflow.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Warm greeting walking in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very clean and cool selection of music playing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I tried to shazam a song I hadnt heard in years and now Im saddened that I couldnt find it. Oh well, everything was tasty. Didnt taste the garlic in the edamame but it was still tasty. Lots to choose from.

While I like the flavor of the dishes I have had from here, the price for the amount is high. We have ordered the spicy tekka don bowl multiple times and the most recent time we ordered it for takeout, the portion was so small for the $19 price tag, we were disappointed. When I ordered ahead for a specific pick up time, I was sent a text that the order was ready over 15 minutes before the scheduled time, so hot food was no longer hot when I arrived at the planned time, that was frustrating. I do like the jalapeño poppers and monkey brain appetizers.

Amazing! It was my first time @Top Sushi in Richmond, TX. I didn't hold back. Everything was really good! The food was so fresh, it came out quick, nice presentation, and the service was great! I was literally in sushi heaven!!! I particularly liked the volcano roll. The prices were very reasonable and there was plenty to take home. I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK. THANKS! :o)

The restaurant is clean and nicely designed. The staff are attentive and polite. Unfortunately, the sushi rolls tasted one note- garlic and spice. We tried Miso soup which was fresh and well balanced but the Jade roll and spicy salmon roll were practically the same in flavor. I'd probably come for the classic rolls here as the fish tasted fresh with no odor. tofu was okay. You know a place knows their stuff when they serve the authentic soy sauce too, that strong salty umami flavor. Wouldn't recommend Bare Beauty unless cucumber rolls are your thing.

Nothing against the business. Ambience is beautiful. Service was great. Parking is plenty. The inside gets pretty dark on a cloudy day, mood lighting? After my trip from Japan I'm in an unending quest to find something anything close to the fresh sushi sashimi nigiri to what I had there. Is this the best Houston can do? I will weep silently in the corner. The fried rice was mid. 5 stars for the crab puff!

Went to the opening of Top Sushi in Rosenberg and it was an overall good experience. The ambiance and decor are what you would expect from your typical Japanese/Sushi restaurant. The appetizers we had were both good (edamame & crispy garlic cucumbers). The sushi rolls were also excellent, we got California roll, Shaggy Dog, & Kamille roll. The chicken fried rice was good. The chicken teriyaki however was really bad. They just took a grilled chicken breast, covered it in teriyaki sauce, sliced it (too thick), and called it a day. Chicken teriyaki should be thinly sliced (prior to cooking), and pan fried with, then teriyaki sauce added in while still pan frying. The texture was like the chicken was still frozen when they cooked it (very rubbery) and flavor was way off. The service was EXCELLENT! You could tell it was a very green (brand new/rookie) waitstaff that was still learning, but they took very good care of us nonetheless. Very attentive and courteous staff. I come from the restaurant industry. Almost a decade cooking in multiple restaurants. It is normal for an 18% gratuity to be added to the check for parties 8 people or more. We had only 4 people, they added the gratuity to the subtotal of the check already (18%), then when they brought out the merchant copy for me to sign with another line to add a tip!!!! So my true subtotal was $74, then they added 18% more ($13.32) for gratuity, then added another $3.33 for paying with my card, totaling $96.70. The merchant copy for me to sign said subtotal $96.70 then had a line for me to tip below that...?? Tip again after you already added 18% gratuity??? What do you think gratuity is? GRATUITY IS A TIP! That's going to make a lot of people mad. I normally, and would have this time, tipped 25-30%... but if you are automatically going to include a 18% tip then try to sneak it into the subtotal as a line item then that is all you are getting. People have forgotten that a tip is not mandatory. In many countries it's inappropriate to tip. It is something that is earned by providing good service, not required. What if I had received horrible service and only wanted to tip 15% but they already included the 18% on my tap? That's is tacky, bad business, and not normal for small parties. Like I said the overall experience was good. Good service, good food, good ambiance, but watch your check because they will try to sneak it in so that you tip twice.

Food was fresh and a lil spicy. Restaurant was clean and service was great. I definitely would recommend.

Spicy Crawfish Roll

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Top Sushi has a convenient location and the ambiance is great especially towards the back as there is a pond and you can watch the sunset etc.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was good nothing bad but nothing to right home about. I went on Labor Day during normal happy hours but was told due to it being a holiday they will not be having happy hour! So just a heads up! I had the following rolls - Spicy crawfish - 6/10 Shaggy dog - 7/10 - tempura shrimp seemed not fresh Louis V - 7.5/10 - roll was unique I think it is a decent spot but there are better spots t for the same price range or cheaper that are better.

See my picture of the extra dressing left over in the bowl. The bao buns were both good. The chicken katsu was crunchy and the chicken was tender. I didn't like the "crumbs"'on top but they were easy enough to scrap off. The beef bao wasn't as good. There was a huge chunk of fat on it. See my picture. That was a disappointment. The bun itself was fluffy and overall they were pretty good. A bit of attention to the beef would've given them a higher score. That amount of fat was unacceptable in my book. The server was nice and came by to check on us an appropriate number of times. The small restaurant was kept up well. A bit of stuff stored along the wall but it appeared clean. The restroom was tidy. There were a couple of mis-steps that could've been avoided with closer attention but overall it was ok.

Our server wasn't as attentive or interactive with us. He asked for our drink orders and shortly came back to take our food order. We ordered the Steamed Beef Dumplings, Thai Spicy Shrimp Ramen, and the Spicy Duck Miso Ramen. The food came out quickly. I'm talking maybe 5 minutes after placing the order. Everything tasted great and was served hot and fresh.

We all live close by so it was a perfect opportunity as we were planning our next outing. The food is always fresh and I really enjoy some of their unique appetizers you don't see on other AYCE sushi menus. I don't usually order hibachi or teriyaki, but they're actually really good here. Oh and I should also mention they make the katsu so good here, very crunchy and crispy. The quality of the fish is always absolutely amazing - the chefs cut a good fat piece whether it's nigiri or sashimi; the fish is so buttery and melts in your mouth. The fish-to-rice ratio is about 1:1.25 on the nigiri which is a little too much rice imo, but like I mentioned there is still a good amount of fish. If you really don't want rice at all I highly recommend going with the dinner menu instead (which also of course has a ton of other great options), but I believe you can ask for less rice (or that might just be for the rolls, don't quote me on that). The ambiance is very clean and cozy. They play a lot of good music as well and it's not loud at all. Service was not too slow and not too fast which gave a good amount of time to enjoy bites between orders. They also do loyalty reward points so you can earn a free meal! Just remember to mention or ask about the program BEFORE you pay, this is crucial or else you don't earn anything on the visit and they can't void the transaction!! I'll be back as usual and recommending this place to those who love sushi as much as I do. This is honestly such a hidden gem and probably one of the only good AYCE places in the southwest Houston area (like deeper southwest past Sugar Land).

Just a long time between requests ~ Upwards of 20 minutes is too long. Overall the sushi selections were good. Tempura , salad and miso soup portions were small and flavor profiles were off. This is a positive review and it comes with lots of words. Consider this your warning haha…read more This review is years overdue. It is about our experience from the very first time we walked into Top Sushi when they first opened up until now. I have wanted to write this for so long, but as a mom, it is hard to put your child in a vulnerable light online. When we first started coming here, my son was nonverbal. The only words he could say were "no" and "dinosaur." That was our entire vocabulary at the time. As a mom of a child on the spectrum, you learn quickly which places feel safe and which ones do not. We stick to our go to spots because, truthfully, my son could absolutely be that "difficult child" people talk about online. And yes, sometimes I tune the world out just to get through the moment. If we ever disrupted anyone's dinner over the years, please know I truly am sorry. But from day one at Top Sushi, we were never judged. Not once. No side glances. No sighs. No feeling unwelcome. Just kindness. My son had his must have seat next to the fish tank. The fish honestly did half my parenting for me. Watching them helped regulate him and gave moms like me the rare luxury of finishing a meal while it was still warm. That fish tank deserves employee of the month. There was one time he accidentally broke the arm off the cat decoration on the wall. I was completely mortified and apologized immediately. The staff did not shame me or make us feel like a problem. They handled it with such grace and understanding. And thankfully, the cat's arm popped right back on. Trust me, we have other stories, but we will save those for another day. Over the years, the staff truly became like extended family to us. They watched my son grow right in front of them. When he started speaking more, when single words turned into sentences, I remember Jenny, Jade, and Paul getting a little teary seeing how much he had improved. That kind of genuine care is rare. It meant more to me than they will ever know. Today my once very wild child is calmer(ish), more communicative, and still very much in love with that fish tank. Through every stage, Top Sushi has welcomed us with patience, warmth, and compassion. Thank you for never making us feel like a burden. Thank you for never asking us to leave. Thank you for loving our family exactly as we are. We are forever grateful.

I will tell you, however, that by the end of the meal, I was not just surprised by how absolutely wonderful this restaurant was, but I was highly impressed by how wonderful the sushi was how absolutely on point the service was and frankly as you walk in, you will be impressed by the ambience. Let's just talk about the sushi for a minute. The portions are extremely generous and all of it is wonderfully fresh and a great pleasure. I believe I had more than half of the sushi menu on an " all you can eat" Offer, which is, given the quality of sushi, the best deal that I have had in the city of Houston. The waitress was absolutely wonderful, extremely service oriented, and just a pleasure to deal with making recommendations and giving insights since she is a sushi eater herself. I would not recommend the old-fashion bourbon as I suspect everything is done by specific formula and I varied their formula. Next time I go, I will follow their formula and see whether it's a different result. But what a pleasant service experience. The ambience is lovely. it's very large and because I suspect it is relatively knew it was by no means fall although frankly, we went at an odd hour about 4 PM on a Sunday afternoon and so that might explain the lack of patrons. I will say, however, it is so large that there may have been as many as 50 people there but because it is so large, it is difficult to gauge based on much more restricted spaces that I have been in while eating sushi. This is truly not a place to be missed. There is not any exotic sushi, but anything that is on the menu is really quite good, the service is absolutely wonderful and the cost is incredibly good. I would highly recommend it.
