I was in town for work and had an opportunity to come see Ms. Mieko for lunch. It was nice to see her behind the counter still in action. She told me that she is now the one that goes to the fish market. The fish they serve continues to be high quality, Masa-san would be proud. Tried the miso salmon and it was cooked perfectly. The miso was not overpowering and there were nicely crusted edges to add texture to the flaky, yet moist salmon. They had items that weren't listed on the lunch menu so just be sure to ask if you're looking for something specific. Shogun continues to be a no-frills sushi spot that focuses on their product instead of kitschy decoration. Come here if you like your sushi NOT drenched in eel sauce and spicy mayo.

Best Sushi In A.V.! The fish quality is great! The albacore is deeeelish! Updating review and this place is better than Nobu and any other place I have been to.

Sushi ~ Octopus, Halibut, Squid, Aberjack and Albacore

First time here and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is small and quaint with traditional yet minimal Japanese decor. The two servers/waitresses were welcoming and attentive. I ordered the dinner #9. Sushi & Sashimi Albacore, Eel, White Fish, and Scallop Sushi. Plus Tuna, Yellowtail Salmon Sashimi and a side of miso soup and salad (next time I'm doubling up on the miso). Also ordered Octopus, squid, halibut and Amberjack sushi, the broiled Chilean sea bass marinated in miso paste (sorry no pic I devoured that hot bass) and two side orders of their miso soup to go. I went on a rainy Saturday at opening, so it wasnt packed yet. Left happy, belly full and warm (thanks to their delicious miso soup) and hot green tea. Looking forward to Tuesday when they're open again!

My bestfriend and I are on a mission to go on more sushi dates, and Shogun is definitely a hidden gem! After hearing so much about it over the years, we finally had the chance to try it out. We didn't have a reservation, but our waitress was fantastic and quickly found us a table for two. To kick things off, we enjoyed two glasses of Plum Wine and baked mussels, which were absolutely delicious. We're big fans of Nigiri, so we decided on Tuna, Yellowtail, and Salmon. The fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful - each bite was a delight. Our bestie date night was a total success, and we can't wait to return. Thank you again, Shogun, for such a great experience! 02.08.2025

Premium Sakè (sak keh) pairs well w/ Japanese food at Shōgun Sushi January 2022
    Gary I.

Shōgun Sushi may be the only place where you can get traditional, pristine Japanese Sushi stocked with premium quality fish between Santa Clarita & Reno along the CA Hwy 14 & US 395 axis.  I went to Shōgun in January 2022 and so sorry to hear that Chef Masa owner and pater familias passed away closing his restaurant. Palmdale has lost a truly iconic Japanese culinary outpost. No " county fair clown" Sushi using Sriracha, mayonnaise, "eel sauce" being poured on at every turn to cover up the poor, cheap quality fish being used.  Therefore, expect to pay way more for having the privilege of experiencing the fine, subtle flavours of high end seafood. However, the Sushi portions here are huge to create better quality/price compared to most traditional Sushi in Los Ángeles.   0) Tempura Moriawasè:  String beans Japanese Kabocha  Sweet Potato Broccoli Asparagus Èbi Sushi: 1) Hiramè: Clean, soft, white meat. Ordered w/ green Shiso leaf under the Halibut   2) Tai: Meaty, more sweet, oceanic Umami Ordered w/ green Shiso leaf under the Snapper.   3) Hotatè & Ikura:  Luscious combination of plush, sweet sea kissed scallops topped with salty, fatty, pleasantly fishy salmon roe garnished w/ green Shiso leaf resting on rice vinegared Sushi rice surrounded by a belt of black Nori seaweed paper. A truly sumptuous combination.  Photo Sushi Dragon 2019-5-21  4) Ōtoro Tekka Maki:  Simple roll of Sushi rice wrapped by black Nori sheet. However, this was an exercise in simple yet sybaritic luxury.  The ultra fatty Hon Maguro/bluefin tuna melting at human body temperature in your mouth along w/ a meaty, aged blood minerality rivaled A5 Wagyū (wah ghee yu) which at a minimum is $20/oz.   0-4a)  Kijūrō Tokubetsu Honjōzō Sakè (sah keh):  Neutral bouquet, light balsa wood fragrance Surprisingly strong strawberry, touch of white chocolate, dry, astringent, woody  Extra long lasting strawberry finish. Dry astringency to refresh the palate.  There are 6 other Sakè (sah keh) choices as shown in my photos. Sakè pairs exceptionally well w/ Japanese cuisine since they evolved together for almost 3,000 years.   Interior of Sushi Shōgun is traditionally Japanese w/ warm, wood accents. Sushi Master is a man of few words. The waitresses do their best to accommodate customers.  Due to the Corona pandemic, Sushi bar was closed off. Table dining only.  4 stars

Really great sushi/ sashimi spot. I can tell the fish and produce are of great quality. Took myself, my daughter and my niece and they had great options for the kids. Felt like I was dining in someone's home but in a very good way. The tall server she took care of us and you can tell they take pride in their work. Will be back regularly

Sushi with miso glazed salmon. The salad and cup of rice was a nice touch.

First time back since the closing and loss of Chef Massa. We went for lunch and they no longer have the full menu. The lunch menu was nice and had good selections. The miso soup is the best we've had. The service is impeccable as always. Same intimate, comfortable setting with just a few tables. The sushi was fresh and tasty, just not the same as we remember. We didn't feel like we were having the same special meal. Maybe it's the lunch menu, but the temperature of the fish wasn't as perfect and the roll just wasn't as memorable as before. We will try again for dinner with the full menu.

I've come here for years, and the food is always great!! So yesterday my husband said let's eat here it's a been a while, He ordered the Bowl with Brown Rice and Luau pork. I ordered the same except I chose island Noodles. My family is from Oahu, and this food was not good at all, let me tell you they give you very little pork in the bowl and it was not hot at all. Island noodle what the heck was that? To me it was angel hair plain pasta what a joke. I only ate the few bites of cold pork and couple bites of the spaghetti noodle they called Island noodles. Bill was Little over $40 with drinks and a small desert. We also ordered a small desert pineapple upside down cake. Now this was good $4.99 only we had that was any good. Also, I used the restroom, and the hand soap is horrible the smell lingers kind of smells like cheap hairspray. I don't know if anything else on the menu is good as we have ever only eaten the bowls not worth the money IMO.

Everyone was polite, and even the customers I squeezed past gave a friendly smile. Good vibes all around. It was a last‑minute Sunday lunch stop -- no plan, just hungry before driving back to Edwards. Inside was fairly busy, but ordering was easy. My kids went straight for the mac & cheese, my wife grabbed some kind of mixed salad‑meat‑rice bowl situation (I still don't know what it was), and I ordered the Toasted Italiano. I'm a simple guy, so I asked for no sauce. Condiments and I don't get along. My wife liked her mystery bowl, my kids inhaled their food and the kettle‑cooked chips that came with my meal, and my sandwich was delicious. The toasted bread was basically Captain Crunch sharp -- eat at your own risk -- but man, it was good. We did wait a bit, but my wife and I don't mind when food takes longer if it means it's made with more care than typical fast‑food in‑and‑out style. Prices felt a little steep, but they use good ingredients, so I can't complain too much. There was spilled water in front of the soda machine that could've been mopped better, but nothing tragic. My wife and I weren't paying attention to the order numbers, so I walked up to see how far along things were. The lady prepping food was an absolute sweetheart -- a very kind redhead who noticed me wandering and checked to give me an idea of where my meal was in line. Later, when I went for a soda refill, she even caught my attention again so I didn't miss that meal just came out. Small thing, but it made the experience feel personal. Overall, it was a mellow Sunday lunch, especially for a first visit. I didn't run into any of the customer‑service issues others mentioned. They were busy, sure, but that's not a crime. For my experience: thumbs up, and I'd definitely go again. Maybe someday I'll encounter whatever the other reviewers dealt with -- but until then, I'm planning on coming back.

The meats are always tender and juicy, and everything is seasoned really well without being too heavy. The portions are generous and the sides are just as good. Their garlic sauce is honestly one of my favorite parts, it's sooo flavorful, and the hummus is smooth and well balanced. I also love their pear soda, it's very refreshing. One thing that stood out during our last visit was the service. My husband mentioned how much I loved their garlic sauce and the front worker added an extra one for us, which was really thoughtful.
