New to AV almost a year in the area now. We've been trying different sushi spots. BigTuna do better big dawgs...... My wife and I decided to try you guys for the first time ordering through DoorDash. Sushi is decent not the freshest but good enough to order again. You really lost us when you fumbled by providing the wrong roll in the combo of/ sushi combo. You guys even have Spicy Tuna on the damn receipt and scratched it out yet gave us a California roll. But the biggest annoyance is after a $150 bill you guys don't even provide chopsticks, soy sauce, napkins nothing. The little things go a long way boys..... Came here to eat dinner and we didn't get the chance because the smell that hits your nose when you open the door is not umami and sake but the smell of a portapotty at Coachella. The music was great a good vibe from the 90s early 2000s the food came quickly. The tempura came out with tempura sauce, but I was a little underwhelmed that the gyoza came out with tempura sauce and not Ponsou sauce and my spicy crab and shrimp roll Lacked a little bit of flavor. It was missing something however, my hand made up for it. Everyone's dishes looked amazing. Everybody seemed very happy with their sushi, the garlic edamame towards the bottom of the bowl seem to become overwhelming with garlic, other than those little minor details. I really wanted to like this place. The staff is great and I like the vibe. I live nearby. I've been here twice now, and both times it was just mediocre. I kept it simple. I ordered a shrimp tempura roll that was drenched in eel sauce, just overpowering any other flavor and making the roll soggy. Both times I was there the rice was cold and hardened on the outside, which is what happens when it's old and sits there. The nigiri sushi was meh and the quality of the fish was not great. We went to bigtuna on a Friday night. The place is decent, not super hip or anything but most of the staff was friendly. I ordered a Rainbow Roll & a BigTuna Roll both were pretty good. The price was reasonable for the size of the rolls. My husband ordered the Ramen and he also said that was good. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because they offered Modelo & Corona in their menu but didn't have either. And the other main reason was it felt like one of the girls there was rushing us. The close at 10pm and it was 9pm & she just took our soy sauce from the table while WE WERE STILL EATING. I ordered a Tempera Shrimp Roll and received a Regular Shrimp Roll ( No Tempera) I questioned the waiter about it, his answer was " that's just how it's made ", hmmm the Palmdale location serves it with the Tempera wrapped around it! My wife ordered her meal with Tempera Shrimp, she took a bite of it and it was almost raw, she had me take a bite of another Shrimp and it was pretty much the same. In short the Shrimp inside was pretty much moist uncooked. At that moment my wife and I are convinced never to return to this restaurant! Leaving the restaurant it was still only 4 tables being occupied and 2 customers at the Sushi counter. Me and my husband came here for our anniversary and he had ordered the fried delight and he had made it a point to let the server know that he's severely allergic to avocado and once he received the food, I had noticed that his roll had massive chunks of avocado and told him before he ate it that it had avocado in the roll. When we asked the server to take it back and have it remade, the chefs got annoyed about having to remake it all over again. My husband had also ordered an eel dish that had bones in it when it's supposed to be deboned before being prepared so he had to have me take the bones out of his teeth and the roof of his mouth. I don't know if we came on an off day or what but I wasn't super impressed of how my husband's allergies were dismissed by the chefs. My husband ended up having to use his epi-pen because they only took out the chunks of avocado instead of remaking it like they were supposed to. It was over $90 wasted... I love BigTuna!!! Maine roll and 911 are my favorite. The chefs really keep the place a float !! I always see them working hard especially the one with the glasses he works fast and careful. Went to Big Tuna to celebrate one of life's achievements on Friday April 28, 2023. The customer service was OK. Very apologetic. The Sushi Chef was a poor excuse for a chef. Big burley guy with flower cap. Needs to go back to pre-chef school. Maybe even home. Shorted us on fish in the sashimi salad. The place didn't have enough salmon eggs for an order of sushi to feed 1 person on a Friday. And Management was non existent. It was the first "date" place my husband and I went to 8 years ago, the first place we went to after I had a baby, it's gonna be the first place I go to in a month after I am able to eat normal foods again (take care of your gallbladder y'all lol) The Rock N Roll and Cajun Tuna are the best. We used to come for the all you can eat and since the pandemic they don't do that anymore, but that hasn't stopped us from coming.
