We also always ask for the small container of spicy mayo, 9/10 times it's not given, after spending $50 on sushi I feel as though that should be a given. Got as takeout during a vacation trip. M'lady had the pork Raman and loved it though I'll note that the only thing that made jt "pork" was the inclusion of 3 pieces of Gyoza. I'm a bit of a sushi snob so I'll be the wet blanket and comment on under seasoned rice. Gyoza and Shumai were pretty good. The service was great: showed up, ordered, and received my order quickly. Wow. I cannot BELIEVE how delicious their food is. I honestly didn't have high expectations because I thought it was your ordinary hibachi take-out restaurant. And wow did they prove me wrong!! I have had my fair share of sushi throughout my life (probably have eaten at 100+ different sushi restaurants throughout the country AND internationally), and this place is certainly in my top 5, especially for the price. This place was our shot-in-the-dark pick for dinner while driving from Maryland to Boston. We chose it based it on proximity and type of food, fitting for our individual tastes(there were 4 of us- 2 adults and 2 kids). The restaurant was easy to find and parking was plentiful. The establishment was pretty busy upon arrival with people coming and going for takeout/pickup and dining. We waited two minutes for a table to be cleared for us without reservations about 7pm. The kids were excited they offered a rare Asian soda (the one with the marble in a glass bottle... win!), and I was happy they had kid options. For under $10, a cute bento box of rice and teriyaki beef was more than enough for my 9 year old. We ordered special sushi rolls to share, which on Thursdays, they have a promotional buy one get 2nd half off- another win! The regular adult teriyaki chicken was perfectly portioned with nothing left, but enough to satisfy. The ramen was so delicious, I had to ask about the recipe. Eddie the owner was extremely generous in disclosing the deets with me and I was shocked how elaborately authentic it was. Unfortunately, I'm not going to share publicly to leave you to have to try it out for yourself! The reason they didn't get 5 stars is because they were 1., forgot on order of gyoza- which we didn't need anyway, 2., the table was still sticky after "cleaned" for us. I'm very particular because I use to run a restaurant. 3., the bathroom sink handle was not installed properly. There was a sharpie mark to show the off position, which to me lacked that perfect status. For these reasons, to be specific, I'd rate it a 9.7 out of 10. LOL Honestly, this place has a lot of potential. The food we received hit the mark. The service was courteous, timing on food expo was appropriate for the peak of dinner time, and meeting the owner made the experience friendly and personal. I stopped here for a take out lunch. It looked decent, there were people eating inside so decided to give it a try. Ordered a noodle dish, sushi and gyoza. All of it was very bad. The sushi fish didn't look fresh at all. Not sure how old it was but the salmon and tuna had a crumbly look to it. Not good.Obviously previously frozen and not fresh. The gyoza was dry, bland. The sauce had the consistency of water and had no flavor to it. Here's the worst part though. The Yakisoba smelled really funny but unfortunately, I decided to take a bite, my thoughts were maybe it was seasoned differently than what I'm used to. Nope. The beef was rotten! That's what was smelling. It was definitely old and who knows how long that meat was out... It had a rancid taste and I spit it out immediately. Shame on the owners allowing this to happen. I got the money roll, real crab California roll and shrimp tempura roll. Our food came out quickly and it looked beautiful! The monkey roll was good but nothing spectacular. The real crab California roll was good but I wish there was more crab meat in the roll (I think one didn't have any crab meat at all ?) I'm gonna be honest and say that we very much had low expectations for an Asian restaurant in the middle of the Chesapeake.. I mean common! Alas my children peck at their food like ungrateful birdies unless it's Asian food so, to Shogun we go. It's in a strip mall near IHOP, five guys, sweet frog, etc so we were expecting a fast food atmosphere. Happy to report that it was much nicer and cleaner inside than we thought. The menu had a lot of sushi options, ramen, and some bento boxes. So we ordered some of each! I should note that we were surprised by the prices, they were so low compared to where we live (suburban Maryland) we ordered the salmon roll, a shrimp tempura ramen, roasted pork ramen, and a teriyaki salmon bento box. They have daily special freebies, ours being a free salad or drink with each entree, but we didn't find out until the table next door asked about it. Our waitress didn't volunteer the information so be sure to proactively ask for the specials! The miso soup came out very quickly and was the standard tasty broth. Our ramen bowls were next. They were big and choc full of corn, the pink fish cake, and eggs. The soup was delicious and the noodles a good consistency! It's hard to find good ramen so we were surprised to find it here! The shrimp tempura was flavorful, and the roasted pork was cooked especially well. The bento box cake with stir fried veggies (cabbage and others), rice, Cali rolls, and the teriyaki salmon. The biggest thing to me though is how clean this restaurant is!!!! I really enjoyed my meal here. Small place in the middle of a strip mall, but it's convenient to drop by after crossing the Bay Bridge from DC. Food was delicious. Tried the pork ramen, Futo Maki, and the real crab meat California roll. All were great but the ramen was the stand out. Just the perfect amount of salt, delicious meat, and lots of little bits they add to make it better. The Futo Maki was surprisingly good. Not something I would seek out in a roll, meaning the pickled vegetables, but it hit the spot. The real crab meat roll was good but didn't seem different from other places I have eaten. It's nice having an option like this on the shore. Unfortunately, the food isn't good (unless we caught them on an "off night"). My group ordered several rolls, and some gyoza, for takeout. As soon as we opened the boxes we could tell it wasn't going to be a good experience. The food didn't look fresh and the rolls with sauce were overly sauced. It seemed like the sauce was being used to mask, or compensate for, the poor sushi quality. Overall, the rolls had a mushy, bland and "heavy" taste. The gyoza was burnt bad enough that we could taste the char on the bottom and it was also a bit gummy and bland. We ended up throwing about half of the order out. On the positive side, the service and ordering process were great, and the restaurant looked nice from what we briefly saw of it. The restaurant's in a good location and easy to access, especially for folks passing through town. If they can significantly improve the quality of the food, it could do well, but for us, it's no longer an option. read more

This is my daughter's first time at a sushi restaurant. It did not disappoint! The sushi chef was extremely helpful at directing my daughter to vegetarian options. She enjoyed the cucumber role and avocado roll. Meanwhile I had a traditional tuna roll call planted by a more exotic vegetable roll known as futo maki. I had the Real Crab California Roll and Monkey roll. Both were fine, the warm avocado on top of the monkey roll was a little weird to me. I just believe that it was my personal preference. We ordered five of the Wednesday lunch special which amounted to ten special rolls. We should've known better than to order when the cashier charged an extra dollar for every special. But it gets even better. We ordered at 12:08 when there were no other customers in the store and were waiting until 1:00 for our order. A long line of customers entered the restaurant after we ordered and we patiently waited only to notice that everyone else had received their food and left. Several waves of customers entered and also left with their food. There were six staff members in the front alone and none of them acknowledged our presence; it was as if we were invisible. We waited for 45 minutes in the unairconditioned restaurant before asking about our order and were yelled at by an extremely rude middle aged man who said his team was all working. While we don't know the specifics, we watched the horrendously unsanitary transfer of raw ingredients happen and only about two of the staff members were working until we inquired about our food. I think it's reasonable to expect lunch for four be prepared in under 30 minutes and for the staff to treat its customers with respect. When we got the rolls, we laughed because the fish looked completely dull to the point where we were concerned about food poisoning and the slim rolls were cut into excessively tiny pieces. We ate cup noodles because 70 dollars of sushi didn't come close to being filling. This was by far the worst part about our Kent Island experience. I highly recommend you do not go to this restaurant unless you want to pay whatever "new" price that's not updated on their disposable menus, wait an hour for your order, or be yelled at by staff members. read more
