The sushi was great. Had the summer roll and tiger roll, and the unagi and maguro tamaki. The tamaki had creative flavor combinations. Fish was fresh. A little bit on the expensive side though. The mase soba was pretty tasty, flavored well. Our toddler gobbled it right up. The tonkotsu ramen, however was somewhat bland and the meat was too chewy. Service was decent. We wanted to try a new place and found Shokudo via a FB advertisement. Located off Route-17 in Paramus, the entrance door is hidden and located right next to the salon on its right. Upon entering, you are greeted by friendly and accommodating staff. The place was bigger than expected as well as being nicely clean and comfortable. My family and I ordered several dishes, all of which were delicious and highly recommended. This included kani salad, shumai, Tonkatsu ramen, Miso ramen with chicken katsu, sushi tamaki (taco): unagi, sake, maguro, and truffle wagy, a salmon roll, and Godzilla roll. The sushi tamaki was a new concept to us but we were pleased at how easy it was to do/eat, and the four pieces that we ordered we give two thumbs up! We went during their Grand Opening celebration to this new and welcomed addition to the Paramus dining scene. It's right next to the Verizon store on 17 south and just past Shake Shack. The menu is presented as a double sided placemat and has tons of choices of all the expected Japanese Sushi and Ramen dishes. We were offered water and hot tea and we took both. We aren't big eaters so we didn't try too many items but everything we had was delicious and well prepared. The edamame appetizer was hot and nicely presented in a bamboo bowl. I had the Shokudo roll one of about a dozen "Chefs special rolls" on the menu and it was excellent. My wife had the Chicken teriyaki dinner with rice, salad and mushrooms. It was very good. Of course there were many Ramen offerings including Soba noodle choices on the menu. We will have to try some of those next time. We passed on desert but there were some interesting items including Lemoncello Tartufo, that we would try on a future visit. We were pleasantly surprised, when the check was brought and the waiter informed us that they gave us a 15% discount during their Grand Opening. Overall ambiance of the establishment is nice but not upscale. The interior fits the price level. Came here on Sunday evening and the restaurant was half full. Ordered kaarage and shokudo ramen. The ramen looked good but the bowl looked kind of small compared to other ramen places. The broth was pretty good. Not salty at all. I was a bit surprised to see straight ramen instead of egg noodles. So be aware if you like egg noodles. They have them but shokudo ramen is with straight ramen. Overall it's pretty good but I expected a bit more for $18. Also karaage portion was kind of small for $8 but was pretty good. Will need to try other ramen options. read more

Well looking on DoorDash for food I said mmm ramen mmmm sushi and took a chance not knowing it was that place and it was so incredible! The take out boxes are so freaken cool the ramen bowl has a top portion to hold the noodles and they store the broth in the bottom so cool! The spicy tuna rolls were amazing and we also had gyoza and boa buns and teriyaki chicken with white rice everything everything was delicious. The sushi (salmon roll was delicious and tasted the same as always) but that hot girl roll had so much flavor!! And cheese, which I am not used to. It was a very rich combination with shrimp. The tempura shrimp appetizer was huge and also very crunchy which was great. The ramen was the main star, as someone who is not a big ramen person, the flavor of the soup wasn't too strong and there was a good amount of toppings, noodles, and meat. It was sooooo good. When we went on a Friday for lunch, it was very empty and service moved fast which was great. The only reason why this isn't 5 stars was because the water didn't taste filtered. It tasted like soil. It was tasty enough and filled my craving for my ramen, however I think the sushi was the highlight of our meal. The rice to sushi filling ratio was perfect, not too much rice which I think is hard to find nowadays. Was looking for a new sushi place close to work and decided to try here for lunch. It's near the Shake Shack next to the Verizon store. I drive past it everyday and I wouldn't have noticed it unless I looked it up on yelp first. It is lovely inside with comfortable seating. It wasn't super crowded - maybe four tables including ours were occupied. My friend and I enjoyed the pork gyoza and shumai (which was fried and not steamed) for appetizers and both were very tasty. We then shared three of the special rolls and they were fantastic. Very fresh, very tasty and great combination of flavors. I especially enjoyed the Angry Dragon Roll and the Crazy Tuna Roll. For our main meals, ordered 2 separate orders of Shokudo Ramen with Beef and another with pork and Shio Garlic Ramen with Chicken broth (all excellent, not salty just right) but would say the pork broth had more robust flavor. One of the most important parts of sushi is the rice, unfortunately the rice fell short here. Sushi tasted so bland and just didn't click right with the other ingredients. The soup-less ramen was descent. However, the miso and shokudo ramen were not for our family. The soup flavor was not strong enough, though the other toppings were descent. The one that ticked me off was that Shokudo ramen picture showed corn in it, but it actually didn't if you read the description. I didn't realize it until after I got my ramen. The service was good though. The 2 girls attended us kept checking on us enough. Glad other peoole like it, just not for our family. read more
