A quick stop off the highway to use the restroom and decided I was really hungry. Signage is good before exiting and at the business. Parking is adequate. Shoney's had there hay day in the 90's and 2000, but you would be hard pressed to find one these days. Most have no idea they are still in operation I suspect. I was greeted up front. The place really is buffet only which is not for me. However they offer one menu item only. A burger & fries, so that's what I ordered. The waitress brought me water and was friendly. The place is old, but clean. I used the restroom prior to my meal arriving and it was sketch, but I've seen worse. Food was out within 15 minutes and visually looked fine. Temperature was good. Taste mediocre, but edible for a starved road warrior. The bread was dry, but not stale, the meat was ok. My waitress did perform a check and refilled water. The bill was promptly brought out. Payment is up front. The price was affordable. Not an establishment I would personally stop at again. 2.5 rounding up with strong service. read more

Uhh the lady that served us was the sweetest lady ever I would say that was the only good part. The food well it tasted fine but when we got our water and coffee there was lipstick on the cup.... Just stay away because I have only thrown up once in my life but Shoney's made it two. I only ate chicken tenders because the food already looked weird and I didn't want to eat sauce because it was in these mass tubs. I will admit I have an iron stomach but shoney's broke it. I was on a road trip and we stopped at shoney's and ate food I had an 8 hour trip ahead of me and I already felt weird when I got home I went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night I threw up and least 15 times I was SICK!!!! I ended up waking up a second time and throwing up at least 10 more times. Worst decision of my life stay away and don't come. I do want to say all the employees at this restaurant were extremely nice so I would go if you're looking for an experience. This restaurant itself also had a good home feel to it. We came at 2 pm. The food was pretty much wiped out. I had some liver and onions they would have been good but been setting so they were dried out. The soup was good. Desserts no cobbler sat empty the whole time we were there. If you like sheet cake that was your choose. So all I had was soup and a few livers. My rating is a one! read more

Terrible coffee...very weak. Not much to offer on the buffet for breakfast for diabetic/low carb besides scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and ham. The eggs weren't fresh at all...bacon and sausage were bland. Ham was thick sliced, and by far the best of the choices here but could be much better. Actually horrible, the fish was slimy, as well as the chicken, the chicken was also cold, hair in the cucumbers, everything looks questionable, ham cannot be real, corn was soggy unseasoned, mac and cheese and mashed potato's were as soggy as soup, cornbread was bad.. how do you mess that up, pudding had weird stuff in it, all of the other food you could not tell what was in it which is not okay, the only good thing there was the crackers because they were prepackaged as well as the ice cream that was also prepackaged!! restrooms were filthy toilet paper was soaked, had to come back and edit this due to the amount of bad things in that place, servers also did not want to serve us which is kind. I used to come here as a little boy, this exact location, and decades later I'm driving through so I decide to stop. Food was very good! Battered fish, catfish, ribs, mussels, shrimp, and chowder. Wait how much is dinner? Just $15 including a drink. My server, Lance, was excellent. He was interacting with all of the tables. He was in good spirits and kept my drinks coming without asking. I came for breakfast, Dad always said that a good breakfast restaurant should have all of the basics, and a few knock out signature dishes. I think I'm being gracious with 2 stars, but the place is kept clean and my server was great. Basics - Food was meh, only food bar, no menu service, very lukewarm and soggy. Pancakes and waffles under heat lamps (pass), scrambled eggs that had a film of hardness, sausage gravy that was lukewarm and lacking sausage (no, it wasn't the pepper gravy). Biscuits that were semi stale - OMG, it's the south and that's a souther staple. On a good note, the iced tea was delicious. Signature Dishes - The only thing I can mention is a breakfast rice that is amazingly good. Not sure I will return for an encore on this epic tragedy. read more

We came here for the special Father's Day buffet. The food was just blah and average. There wasn't much selection. There were two sides of the buffet, and much of what was on one side was on the other side as well. On another note, I ordered an unsweetened ice tea. What arrived was quite bizarre-tasting. I had not been in a Shoneys in 30 years because of their reputation of being dirty, so... If you like fried batter, you will love their fish and chips. The buffet is on special: two for $20. But I ordered one for $9.28. No kidding. I have a suggestion for Shoneys: Allow customers to just look at the buffet for $5. The food at the buffet was adequate. We arrived right before the transition to the dinner buffet, so we filled our plates and sat down. The chocolate cake was delicious! Our server, Tiffney, was nice and friendly. However, the restaurant has a smell to it when you walk in and makes you doubt the cleanliness. The men's bathrooms was not clean at all, especially in the urinal area. One significant improvement that could be made would be in the yelling, complaining, arguing and swearing coming from the staff. (Yes, f bombs were heard by our children.) We stopped here for breakfast ahead of a 7 hour drive back home. First thing I noticed when walking in is the huge display of of souvenirs, along with a huge selection of handbags... yes, HANDBAGS for sale on the wall behind the cashier. We were not impressed with the small and unappetizing buffet display. The eggs were cooked well, but the sautéed mushrooms I put on them had such a strange taste, I couldn't eat it. The toppings in their salad section were impressive with a big container of bleu cheese, cranberries, almonds, sunflower seeds, and 3 kinds of lettuce. My daughter did love the cinnamon sticks. Our server was polite and accurate when asking to refill our drinks. We never had to remind him what each of our drinks were. There were 7 of us! The bathroom was the nail in the coffin of our experience. The floors were filmy and wet. The trash can was overflowing with garbage which was spilling onto the floor, the toilets (only 2 in the bathroom) were extremely filthy, and the stench was enough to have made me lose my breakfast if I had to stay in there any longer. Couple this with the fact that there was no air flow in the bathroom at all (fans, window, vents, etc.). The disgusting air was stagnant, warm and humid! Enough said. If I ever come through again, I'd avoid this place altogether. read more

Went to this Shoney's on a Thursday evening during WV State Fair week. Very nice, was seated quickly. Our server, Brittany, was very attentive (but not annoyingly so). Something should've clicked in the back of my mind when I saw that most of the customers inside Shoney's had BMIs greater than 30. Then again, we were in Lewisburg, WV so there weren't too many dining options to choose from. It wasn't until I saw the food in front of me that I came to realize why. My pancake platter looked nothing like the pictures on the Shoney's website. (Yes, I have the tendency to look up restaurant websites beforehand.) They were limp, soggy, and oozing with butter... an excellent way to start my morning. I didn't even bother coming close to the sausage. Neither of my parents' dishes looked delectable nor edible. Everything (from the biscuits to the potatoes) sat atop a bed of oil. In fact, we left most of our food untouched and headed over to the nearest Starbuck's for lattes and breakfast pastries instead. I'm sorry some reviews can't be eliminated...I find Shoney's to be the fastest service in town with the constant breakfast bar (all week). I can serve myself, eat, pay and leave for work before most cars can get through the drive-thru across the street! HIGHWAY ROBBERY! This is my last visit to the Shoney's in Lewisburg, WV. If you show up on a holiday weekend and the waitress asks, "Is everyone going to have the buffet today?" DON'T DO IT! We were charged $12.99 each for the "holiday" buffet on July 4th at lunchtime. We agreed to the buffet to save time; everyone in our party ate one small plate and finished in 20 minutes. The waitress hadn't informed us and the restaurant had no signage indicating the "holiday" price. I felt I'd been SCAMMED by SHONEY'S MANAGEMENT. I told the cashier I intended to review the Lewisburg Shoney's on YELP, so she changed the bill to $8.99 per person, still too expensive for the quality of food on their buffet. SO-- IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, tell the cashier or manager you are willing to pay the regular price because you weren't informed of a holiday price. I would not even give shoneys in lewisburg 1 star. But it made me in order to post. This is the worst place we have ever been to. The waitress told us our kids could eat for $4.99 and then when we went to pay they charged full price for them. The food was disgusting nothing and I do mean nothing was good. We found complete raw fish on the bar the only thing that was cooked was the outside batter. Another table had raw fish also and they told the waitress and she acted as though it was fine and she already new. When we went up to register to pay we explained to the manager what the waitress had told us about our kids eating for a certain price and were told by the manager that the waitress could DEAL with us. It's been years and years since we've eaten at Shoneys but we were very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. First of all, our waiter Jeff went above and beyond good service. We were a party of 10 and he kept our glasses filled and table cleared! He heard someone say it was my granddaughter's birthday and he had the staff bring out cake for her! The fried chicken was fresh, crispy and hot. There was a very large selection of desserts...that wasn't fresh from a box! Yummy fried green tomatoes and big salad bar. Real mashed potatoes! And very clean! We all had the buffet, my son ordered fried pickles...which was only $1.49! I'm glad we gave it a try! We will definitely be back! read more
