Great ambiance, good food, friendly folks! Reserved table for "just because" dinner celebration. Food was mostly amazing and at worst "good" (which is still more than high praise). We showed early for our reservation and immediately seated. Menu has changed in last few months so they appear to be constantly improving. Appetizer and salad showed at the same time which I might not have preferred but as we shared 1 app with 2 people and had 2 salads worked. All the serving were tasty. I preferred my salmon and risotto while partner preferred his beef and grits, Caesar salad won over Brussels spout salad. Bottle of Malbec was appropriate to price as was after dinner port. Goat cheese ice cream was divine. Will return for our next visit in August because I love the vibe. Had a very enjoyable meal outside with the porch to ourselves on a beautiful late summer evening. The crispy pork belly and sauerkraut was a tasty start to a dinner of spinach salad with salmon and the Parmesan trout Oscar. Everything about The Livery Tavern is exceptional! The food, the fireplace, the friendly faces all make your visit five-star from start to finish. I ordered the Caesar salad with chickenI liked that the dressing was on the lighter side. I also ordered a side of fries, which were perfectly crispy. To finish, I tried a seasonal dessert special. Because we visited the week before Thanksgiving, they offered a pumpkin cheesecake - I liked it, but it wasn't as good as Mom's pumpkin pie. :) I recommend reservations as The Livery Tavern is intimate. If you're lucky, you might snag a table near the fireplace on a snowy night; it's beautiful and cozy! Last note: Street parking only, but it wasn't a problem for us on a Friday night! read more

Fantastic and cozy restaurant in the small downtown area of Lewisburg. Just up the hill from the busier part of town. We had: Calamari- Fresh and delicate with an amazing dipping sauce. Hanger Steak and Grilled Shrimp with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts- Cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Chocolate Mouse- fantastic and thick moose with loads of flavor. Service was top notch. Amazing! The she crab soup was on special and it might be one of the best soups I've ever had. They should add it to the menu permanently. We had the seared scallops as an entrée which were delicious! I ate them too fast and didn't get a picture. My watermelon mojito was refreshing. My mom ordered the lavender drop martini - it was the only miss of the whole meal. I think it may have had too much lavender flavor which tipped it into soap-like flavor/smell. Clueless how anyone could possibly give this establishment anything less than a 5 star rating. Could not be better. Greeted within seconds of arrival. Despite the fact that there was a very large party just seated, we were not forgotten. How very unusual! The menu has some great choices. I had the salmon; it was very good. This is no small compliment from me, as I am very picky about my salmon, and have turned back about 25% of the salmon I have been served (mostly for source mispresentation or over cooked). We were so impressed with the food, the service and the ambiance that we are going back tomorrow evening - for the hanger beef. read more

We had a lovely meal for two here. The atmosphere is beautiful - candles, low lighting, fresh flowers. And it was quiet enough that you could talk and hear the other person! The food was fresh and delicious - I had catfish and my husband had the pork chops. The vegetables that came with the pork chops were seasonal and cooked just right. For us, the food was very good. It was the service that knocked this review down one star. Our server was not attentive and made some odd choices in their service (e.g. physically moved our silverware off of dirty starter dishes and explained that we should keep them so that she didn't have to bring us new ones). Came with high expectations. Menu looks great, the ambience ideal, but looks can be deceiving. I'll put it simply. The food was as close to meh to as it gets. My guess is they take every opportunity possible to cut corners on the menu and it shows. My surf and turf was super tiny and I've never had more tasteless shrimp on a bed of more lifeless rice. Somehow they had the gaul to charge me $10 per child for butter pasta with no seasoning. The wine list is really basic. Garbage basic wines by the glass, with only one option for each varietal. Do yourself a favor, skip this one as there as many other great options in Lewisburg. read more

Mixing it up this time, we chose some restaurants to try in Lewisburg. The Livery Tavern is a classy, cozy, restaurant on the main drag of downtown Lewisburg. It has a masculine, hunting lodge type decor, leavened by some elegant touches, like a chandelier with glass globes hanging from it. Our server was very friendly and punctilious. She did a great job attending to our needs but giving us room to enjoy our meal. We started with cocktails, I had an Iced tea, bourbon, honey concoction that was prefect, like a boozy sweet tea. The Colonel had a mango margarita with a chile salt rim. His was also yummy (I had a taste). We ordered starters, with the Sprossling enjoying his 'spicy sweet' shrimp ("they aren't spicy")* which came with watermelon radish (gorgeous) and the Colonel and I splitting an unusual one of canteloupe served with homemade lemon cheese, blackberry jam, and little crostini -- a fabulous mix of flavors! For mains I stuck to a surf and turf kebabs from the small plates, which was perfect for my stomach size. It came in a bourbon laced sauce reminiscent of a high end teriyaki, very tasty. The Sprossling ate two mozzarella filled meatballs each about the size of his head, served with fettuccine, and cleaned his plate (oh to be sixteen). The Colonel had a large chunk of beautifully done salmon over roasted corn with piquillo sauce, muy gusto. While everything got eaten, we were too full to even consider dessert! Absolutely would go back next time we are in town! *i think what West Virginians consider to be spicy may not be what those of us from the Southwest may consider spicy ;) come at me Mountaineers! read more

This restaurant has ambiance like crazy! It's spotless (bathrooms too) and the lighting is awesome! We were warmly greeted and our server was superb. We shared the oyster appetizer (baked and fried) and they were frankly amazing. Cooked to perfection with just the right condiments. We shared the chef choice burger. It was a whisky mushroom Swiss burger cooked just as requested. The bun was perfect. The fries were great but I probably won't order them again. One star lost for the lady in the dress who was arguing so loudly on her cell phone that it rudely interrupted our meal. I'm not sure if she was the owner, manager or hostess but no matter...loud angry conversations don't make for pleasant patron dining. read more
