I have used Shooters Service Center for about ten years now. I primarily use them for FFL transfers, which they are more than happy to do. That said, they perform gunsmithing, they sell parts and ammunition and accessories, and they are reasonably priced. And best of all, they are trustworthy, and quick to answer the phone and e-mails. If you ship a firearm to them, you will actually receive it, which is more than I can say about other dealers. (Read my other reviews to learn which one I am talking about.) Unfortunately, the neighborhood "improvements" of recent years makes it harder to park, but the easiest spots are on the north side of the building. read more

I called every shop in Portland trying to find someone who either carried or could order or help me order online. I was looking for a S&W MP Shield 2.0 Performance Center model. He wasn't able to get ahold of one, but I found one on a off chance online. (Anyone looking for one knows how hard these are to find right now.) Don had no problem helping me do an online purchase and transferring the fire arm same day as delivery. He communication throughout the process was excellent. I could recommend Don more. I've done the majority of my FFL transfers here and have bought several firearms from this Co. John has always been helpful and a wealth of knowledge from six guns to everything semi-automatic. Rifles or pistols they can work on them, and they always communicate well. I've been to Keith's and despite the fact that Keith's blows out guns at crazy prices, I'd much rather support my local business and pay a bit more. I've referred many friends and clients to this shop and have always heard hood reports. I only wish they'd start doing class III transfers and sales. No pressure sales and always helpful! read more

Very friendly with their information and very good listeners. They don't try to up-sell you at every turn. They offer a lot of objective information depending on what you're looking for. They have gunsmith services on site. They also have some of the most reasonable prices around. Imagine before the housing bubble ever swelled. They were not condescending since I am, ahem, a woman - too common a practice in gun stores. They are also quick to refer you to another store if they don't have it and know who does. Very impressed with the level of knowledge, service, and low prices at Shooters Service Center. I make a point to patronize local businesses and avoid big box/corporate stores as much as possible, which can sometimes mean paying a bit more. Not in this case. I shopped around for 2 recent handgun purchases, and found SSC to be the best value on the gun prices, and the cost for background check. Don is very friendly and fun to banter with, and does not pressure you into making a purchase. Very laid back. I was also pleased that SSC is not full of right-wing political/patriotic signage, as is the case in so many gun shops. Being a left-leaning gun enthusiast often means going into politically hostile territory to make purchases. SSC is ideology-free, at least from outward appearances, which I appreciate. read more

I thought these guys did a great job. Was happy every time I walked in and left. That is, until I shot my rifle and my scope shifts badly. It looks as though someone stripped my scope ring and tried to cover his ass by drilling it out and rethreading the hole adding a larger bolt. He told me he upgraded the hardware when I picked it up... now I know why. He ruined my Griffin & Howe scope ring and I am not optimistic about finding another for less than what he charged me to ruin the one I had. I could go back and ask them to find me another ring and fix it for free like men but, a man doesn't try to cover his ass for ruining someone's trust in them to do a job, he owns it. I could probably expect denial and double speak so I will just not go there ever again and encourage others to not go either. I get burned once. This was a bad burn. read more

Unfortunately these fine folks don't carry a Class III, which limits the type and amount of business one can give them. But what they do, that's within their scope, so to speak, they do quite well. Great place to finally knock down that concealed carry permit you've been meaning to get, and they do it within the confines of about a 2 hour (or less) Saturday class. These are good friends to make, and to keep. When the rioting and the looting begin, make sure you have plenty o' powder in which to keep dry... and safe. Really? Is that your contribution? They're not closed and its a good gun shop. Pretty sure they're only open Wed-Sat and you should call ahead if you want to stop in. The owner is extremely knowledgeable. Please don't act like this is some blight on your neighborhood. This isn't some pawn shop that deals weapons to criminals, this is a professional shooter's store and I only have to glance at the staff to know that shady people won't make it two steps past the front door. The people who protect you go to places like this. Maybe one day you could appreciate that. Too bad it would take a horrible life shattering experience to drive that theory home to someone like you. The place doesn't even have a sign and you can't tell what kind of shop it is unless you peer in through the front door and look down the entryway. You really couldn't ask a gun shop to be more discreet. I will continue to give them business long into the future. I hope John never leaves "your" neighborhood. read more

This place doesn't even deserve one star. I purchased a firearm over four weeks ago and still have not been able to pick it up! I've been down to this place about five times! I've called multiple times during business hours. They pretty much work when they feel like it. I was thinking it would be ok since its close to my house. Bought an old Remington 1100 used from them. Owner was easy going about the prospect of layaway. When I went to shoot it, the weapon didn't fire. Called them when I had some time and the first answer was "Absolutely we want to look at it." When I brought the weapon in I was offered a free repair or a full refund on the shotgun. I chose the repair option because I bought it because I wanted it. Told them I wasn't in a rush I have backup shotguns and to take their time. No rush. Turns out they put me right in the front of the line and took care of repairing it and I had it back in a few hours. Really above and beyond what I was expecting. Fair prices on their ammunition too! Good accessories and great unique selection. You won't find a slew of beat up Browning Shotguns or .22 rifles. I'll definitely continue to use them for their great customer service.
