I went to The Gun Room today because I wanted to give a local gun store my business, and to see if the bad reviews were really earned. The short answer is yes, they are very well earned. Thankfully there are so many other fantastic gun stores around here with an owner who won't YELL at you over nothing or price things twice their market value. DO NOT shop here until there's a sign on the door saying "under new ownership". Here's the long story: The first thing I notice is the absurd prices of everything. Every military surplus rifle is marked by double it's value at the very least. Not uncommon, but not a great sign. The thing that killed this store for me was being yelled at by the owner for expressing a very uncontroversial opinion. For reference, I am an experienced firearm owner, competitive shooter and I have around the industry for years, and I don't rely on anecdotal evidence. I wanted to see a very good looking pistol in the cabinet. After handling it, I commented that it's a Turkish copy of a CZ-75. I said that I'd rather stick with a real CZ. For some inexplicable reason, this flipped a switch in the old man's head; he slams his hands on the counter, leans over, points a finger in my face and yells at me "you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, kid!" (It is worth noting that Turkish weapons have an unfortunate reputation for low quality and poor functionality, some even having catastrophic failures that injure the shooter! Anybody with even the slightest experience in the industry should know this. CZs on the other hand have a consistently great track record for the past 100 years). I'm obviously taken aback by this, and ask the owner if he has any experience with either. To which he yells at me "no! But look at it! CZs are bad, that's why we don't have em anymore!" Note: there were 3 CZs in the cabinet next to it... I was at a loss for words, I was smitten at the immaturity, lack of knowledge and professionalism that this man had. The audacity to yell at a customer, especially about something he clearly has no knowledge about is astounding. I really want to like this place and give them my business, but the owner is terrible and makes it impossible to do so. It's not all bad though, one of the employees there was very nice, and the dog was cute. Their selection is great, but with the prices their asking, I don't see it going anywhere. I never wish for a company to go out of business, but I don't see this shop lasting much longer if this current owner sticks around (fingers crossed). read more

The "customer experience" floats somewhere between "you're not welcome here," and "feel free to look around." They have two price brackets, expensive and exorbitantly expensive. I honestly don't know how they are able to compete and keep in business. I enjoyed looking at and handling their wares, but I'm just priced out. They would work better as a firearm museum. They are decently friendly, though a bit stiff. I was able to find the items I was looking for at Cabelas (rings and ammo) for about 60% of their asking price. If you like steel and wood this is the place to go. I had read enough reviews to make myself quite apprehensive about even going into this place but my dad was in town and said he hadn't been able to find any .410 ammo anywhere. I said, hey there is this place nearby but I've heard they are pretty much rude but hey lets try it, maybe it won't be that bad. I went to The Gun Room for Archery Supplies. Upstairs is a fair selection of Archery Supplies. Not a wide variety but a good assortment. It's more like a store room of supplies than a store. If you can look past the clutter and get past the large amount of info given on why they only carry certain brands. You may find what you need. I only wanted Nocks. I even showed the sales rep. the arrow I needed a Nock for. He said, You need this one. I buy a Dozen for $4.00. Awesome...... Till I got home to discover. I had in fact NOT been given the correct Nocks. They do sell Free Standing Bag/Targets for cheaper than any other place in town. So I say, Buyer Beware. Warren wouldn't answer any of my questions and instead kept trying to steer the conversation to Colts and "Tom Selleck's favorite gun." So I called Taylor's directly and had them ship the firearm to The Gun Room. Two months later, it arrives. When I called The Gun Room, Warren yelled at me in a spittle-induced tirade about Taylor's going behind his back and selling directly to his customers. I told him I was going to buy some ammo and supplies when I came in, and anyway I gave him the first shot at the sale. Doesn't matter, he mailed the firearm back to Taylor's and told me to figure it out. If you want to get a superior firearm like the Colt 1911 this is the place to go to, they are very knowledgeable on that and will demonstrate how to do maintenance properly, showing proven cleaning/oiling, etc. products and methods that avoid common mistakes; they also give excellent recommendations on training and other resources. So.... I have looked at all the reviews on-line v. my experience in purchasing a S&W Model 19 manufactured around 1972! Bottom line.... if you want the "handgun" of today, manufactured, and wholesaled at today's prices then shop at "current" day businesses and compare prices for the "deal" your looking for. If you want a handgun of "yesterday" which you can't find at "current" day businesses.... anywhere... then The Gun Room is where you need to go! Realizing these handguns are not purchased from wholesalers, but likely "estates" because that's where you find them here and there from time to time, further understaning someone had to go out and find them, evaluate them, then buy them putting them on a shelf for who knows how long before they sell and you complain about the price... come on! There's a lot more that goes into to obtaining these handguns then just going on-line and ordering from a wholesaler... and remember.... you weren't the one who did all the "footwork" in finding and buying this handgun! When your talking about pricing "antique/vintage" hanguns v. "current" day handguns its like comparing apples and oranges. Not only in quality but quanity and availability! So funny reading all these reviews. I didn't realize everyone had the same experience as me with these guys. I went in to the gun room about 5 years ago. I was just looking for an extra clip for my S&W 9mm. The staff working there could care less about their customers. Took awhile for me to get the attention of one of them and when I asked about the clip I was looking for I was basically told that my gun was junk and that they didn't carry junk parts. I have no clue how these guys stay in business when they are such assholes to 95% of their customers. Go over to the Google reviews and check out some of their responses to bad reviews. This place makes for a remarkable museum, but I can't say I'll use it often as a store. I kind of like "grumpy, opinionated old guys" heckling and banter, even if the "Trump will save us all" remarks were so frequent that it derailed sharing actual information. But the markup on their items is crazy. I wouldn't mind paying full list price on things if it helps support a neighborhood business, but much of their stuff is 20-30% above list. And they don't just mark it up but try to convince you it's a good price. I tried to haggle with the guy about the price of one ridiculously marked-up item, and he refused saying I wouldn't be able to get it cheaper anywhere else. I went in to buy a rifle and a pistol a few months ago. The old guys at the counter didn't even look at me when I said hi. One of them was sitting behind the counter doing nothing and wouldn't even look at me. I decided if they were going to ignore me I would ignore them. Terrible customer service. Their pricing is the highest I have ever seen in any small gun shop ever. They did have a large selection but it's because no one wants to pay exorbitant prices. The gentlemen who run this place are very knowledgable, and they all have a great sense of humor. The gentleman who helped me, showed me various hand guns and let me get a feel for them.
