I usually love stopping by Sea Hive in Pt.Loma, and I rarely leave empty handed. There is always some "must have" vintage accessory, housewares, jewelry, or clothing...it's well curated and organized, and so many fun finds. However on Wednesday 08/05/26, I arrived first...and a few minutes later when my teenage son & his 3 friends tried to come in to meet up with me, they were aggressively stopped at the door with direction that they could not enter without an accompanying adult. My son called me, and when I came to the entrance to meet them, they seemed to be in a bit of a tense conversation with the employee who would not let them in. She apologized, albeit with an attitude, saying they've unfortunately "had issues" with teenagers so they are no longer allowed in without an adult. Despite my being there to chaperone, she then proceeded to follow them around the store like a hawk. When they went to try things on in the dressing rooms she pressed them, in front of me, asking if they were "just playing dress up or if they were actually shopping to buy something", and requested them to be respectful because their vendors carefully curate their items and many are vintage. I was standing right there while this was all happening and asked her point blank, "Are they being disrespectful?" To which she replied "No", and I assured her that I was right there watching & helping them. Now two employees hovered at the dressing room beside me (one was far more helpful & kind than the other) clearly rattled by the boys who were just trying on clothes and not causing trouble. The boys were treated like thieves from the second they stepped in the door, and they continued to be targeted despite my chaperoning them, also making me feel like an accomplice. The whole situation was very unnerving, and if it weren't for the fact that I do like supporting these artists and vendors...I would have walked out empty handed out of principle for how we were treated. I suggest you do at least a few things to make customers feel more welcome and simultaneously help with your (I'm sure well deserved) paranoia, & get a hold on your security concerns. You have a real challenge with multiple vendors, a large warehouse space, and lots of small item inventory to keep eyes on, so I understand your challenge. First, if this is your policy Make it CRYSTAL CLEAR with signage at the storefront that unaccompanied minors are not allowed so that you don't have to constantly attack every kid who walks through the door & can at least reference it if they don't read it. Be CONSISTENT about this across the board (i.e. don't profile boys differently than girls). IF BUSY...Maybe limit the amount of people who can come in at any given time (easier with smaller retail stores). Important - Please train your staff (this one woman specifically) some sales skills on how to properly handle talking to customers without making them feel accused of shop lifting before they barely have a foot in the door & especially once a chaperone is present to supervise. Note: The gentleman who made his way over to help them was kind, calm, & engaging...chatting them up, and not at all getting flustered by their presence. Leave any bags by the front door & have a monitoring system to check them in & out when you leave. Consider investing in a security system for your item tags so that keeping track of merchandise isn't so stressful for your staff - some of who are triggered to make your customers feel totally unwelcome. Lots of options here to help solve a problem you're clearly having with theft. I appreciate and understand you've had some issues, but taking it out on innocent, paying customers is unacceptable. I love & support your stores, but this experience created unnecessary anxiety for everyone, and I'll be hesitant to come back. read more

I thought this was a thrift store but upon entering I realized that it was a marketplace where there are many different vendors that lease small areas of space to sell their goods. There are lots of eclectic and different items here. Some are handmade, some are vintage clothing, others are vintage housewares while other things are new items. They have a public restroom. There is nobody on the sales floor to help you because there are little booths and many different vendors. There is somebody at the cash register if you need help. I love these Sea Hive markets all around the San Diego area. Ive been to the Oceanside location and when I was looking for a gift for my mom and found this location in Point Loma, I made a mad dash to get here. This location is open 11-6 daily and its pretty big. This market has many different vendors selling here and so many unique, vintage items here and I was completely absorbed in this store! I found some really great items including a nice birthday card, two pairs of very unique earrings, a fantastic gift for my mom and an adorable cat hat (see my profile photos) and all for a very reasonable price. This place is also very hip and trendy so great to come here and get some ideas of how to put your ensemble together. And, this has local sellers so you're supporting small businesses. I adore all the Sea Hives, but I think this one is my favorite. The staff is super friendly and helpful! The store is always clean and organized. This location is also huge with tons of small business booths! Its a place to come shop for oddities, crochet, vintage clothes and wares, jewelry, crafts, or cool trinkets. A truly unique location with lots of items to see and purchase. Walk around. It will take you a while. There are quite a variety of individual shops, with many of them familiar vendors at the Little Italy Farmer's Market. If you missed a vendor on a Saturday, you may just find them here, so look carefully! A fun place to visit and you'll find some really interesting stuff here. Zero stars. I had a really disappointing experience at this store. I purchased a small jewelry dish and the cashier wrapped it and handed it to me. Unfortunately, I accidentally dropped it right there at the register in front of the cashier and it broke. I politely asked if I couldget a new since it was clearly an accident and there were several more of the same item available. The staff told me no and said I would have to buy another one. I understand store policies, but this happened literally at the register moments after purchasing it. A little understanding or basic customer service would have gone a long way. Accidents happen, and it would have been a simple gesture to replace it. They clearly need to wrap their items better as well. Instead, I left feeling frustrated and disappointed. Not the kind of customer service that makes you want to come back. read more

I love coming here so much. It's kind of like a little indoor swap meet with air-conditioning and without sellers trying to sell you things. So many creative pieces from different artists. I love how so many different businesses can be here. There's something for everyone. This is a great spot to find gifts for birthdays, holidays, etc.. The parking lot is also very big. How come it took me so long to see this shopping paradise??? I was last Sunday at a dancing paradise and my friend wanted to go for a coffee and browse some stores. The only ones I knew are the ones inside the marketplace in Liberty Station, so this huge building hosts multiple stores of different styles and was a pleasant surprise. Each store was like a Pandora box to me, full of surprises. We could not see half of what is offered there, you will need several hours to see everything. Lots of vintage gifts but mostly brand new. Paradise of vintage and unique stuffs. This store is managed by good hearted people with the best customer service! All this beautiful smily faces with 0 stress or boredom. I had a feeling i walked back in 18-19 centuries maybe even more far in Gilded age. Some products very too old by carefully chosen. In some areas i had a feeling i was walking in Versailles in France! Unique tea cups, sculptures and etc. The value was reasonable and im pretty sure if some of the items they put in auction it will be more than $500. It was pretty busy specially that outside there were so many events going on. The parking was too busy which it was understandable in every spot there was something happening. Definitely ill come back to this place and ill explore more of its uniqueness. Be ready to walk in history, a very rich history! I was in thrift heaven upon stepping one foot into the door. There was so much to see and buy. I agree with some other people who reviewed this spot, do not go in if you do not want to spend all of your money or sell your kidneys to buy everything!!! There are multiple local vendors who showcase their items. You can find clothes, shoes, antiques, books, albums, accessories, and tchotchkes (my boyfriend's favorite). I found lots of favorites but you will have to explore the heavenly grounds to find something you like. A favorite, was towards the back of the store. There is a vendor that wraps up a book and will give a small synapse on what you can expect to read. It's like a blind date for only $15. That's a deal for me especially because I wouldn't have to leave my house. During my visit, I found $20 Minnetonka's, yes $15. I couldn't believe it, not even the cashier. He thought he saw it wrong. So of course, I could not pass up the deal. Prices are fairly good, but there are some items that are higher priced but if you really look, you can find affordable items for sure. I can't wait to see what I find during my next visit. Which reminds me, gotta book!!!! read more

I stumbled upon this store after seeing the location in La Jolla a couple months ago. We first visited during their Vintage Pop Up shop and everything was too cute! If you ever get the chance to visit their pop up shop on the second Sunday of the month, they have so many good finds and vendors. Such a fun, eclectic mix of items on display. Each nook and cranny of the store has a different feel, and your eyes are constantly busy roving around as all the displays are really colorful and expressive. I was surprised to find such a large collection of dog treats that are dried meats, so no unnecessary add-ins. I was also impressed by their plant offerings. They have some really nice calathea, pothos, and fern varieties that are more unusual.
