This January 1st marks 40 years of shopping at this store, on and off. Unfortunately, over time--and especially since the retirement of the previous manager--the quality of service has steadily declined. Since Joe and a younger employee named Richard took over, the store has become increasingly disorganized and unprofessional. During a recent visit, we purchased a bottle of vanilla extract clearly marked at $15.99. At checkout, the barcode scanner 4 bottles rather than one. After getting home we realized the mistake and reported the discrepancy. Richard first asked an irrelevant and obnoxious question about whether we had opened a bakery, then stated that they would review the security camera footage and inventory records and get back to us. Richard later left a message saying he needed to "discuss" the matter. When we returned to the store, he refused to reimburse us, claimed the security office was closed, and denied access to the camera footage, and did not provide results of inventory count. Joe (who is the manger) was contacted and he was entirely unhelpful. Despite repeated requests, no camera review or inventory verification was ever produced. The entire interaction was unprofessional, dismissive, and disrespectful. As a 70-year-old Asian woman, I found the behavior of these individuals--particularly their attempt to intimidate and belittle--completely unacceptable. While I did not allow myself to be bullied and ultimately received my refund, the experience left me deeply disappointed and disgusted. If management reviewed our ShopRite card history, they would see that we are loyal, long-term customers and consistent spenders. Sadly, this store no longer values its customers. Fortunately, we have many nearby alternatives with professional staff and respectful service, including sister ShopRite in Rochelle Park, Stew Leonard's, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Wegmans, and many others. Disappointed lately with this place! They sell expired items and do not rotate. FIFO! Also the digital coupons are not only deceiving but very misleading. I received an email with coupons and it said visit us this weekend for these deals but they never mentioned that they weren't valid until Sunday! I Googled some specific West Indian baked items, and visited the store to see fresh adequate supplies! Seem well stocked of all items overall. Had one of the best pineapples I have had in the US, from there too. Will make this a regular visit for sure. read more

This is my go to ShopRite. It's right across the street from my gym, so I usually hit it up afterwards. I have always found the things I've needed, so no complaints there. For holidays they have great sales. The garden section out front has healthy plants and flowers. Right now they have wreaths and Christmas themed items. Hanukkah too. I've gotten my vaccination shots here. My one gripe, there's always a long line, no matter what time, for self serve and cashier check out. I know it's not the store's fault for being so popular in a high density area, but maybe there's a way to organize things better. Either way it's a fully stocked store With lots of unique items and their sales can't be beat. read more

Big shoutout to the greeter thats there every Sunday. I dont recall her name but shes always pumping everyone up and saying whats on sale. At the front theyll always have the big sale of the week, everything from shampoo to batteries, seasonal stuff and more. Make sure to use the deli express ordering system either in store or on the website. Saves a bunch of time as you can do your shopping then pick up your items as your about to checkout. Certainly beats waiting in those long lines which are always 5-10 people deep. The self checkout usually is less of a wait then the regular checkouts. Pro tip to always put your bags on the checkout counter first then scan. Otherwise an employee will have to log you in every time. Stay away from the main lot as its always a clusterf*ck. Better off parking at the REI if you dont mind walking or the lot closest to route 4 which is way less congested and an easy out read more

This store was my go-to grocery store during my brief residency in New Jersey. For those who are deli section fans, this is a great store for you. I liked the variety of foods available here, although I felt the produce could have been more varied. And the variety of items carried at this store in general was great. The staff I approached with questions really demonstrated a good knowledge of the store, and were able to look up items if they were not sure. Much better service than many grocery stores I have shopped at over the years. And some great clerks at the registers as well. It could get quite crowded on those shopping Sundays I came in, but still quite navigable. Odd perhaps to say, but I did like the tunes they play at that store. I won't miss the Bergen County blue laws that limit the times when liquor can be sold, albeit I didn't make many liquor purchases. I came here as a kid in the 70s and 80s...When I moved to CA and came back for a visit it was still here. Pretty tight and congested. Seemed disorganized and a bit dirty. Fruits were on the floor and meet section was all over the place. Prices were good but the quality of meets and veggies were less than that of Costco or maybe that is a result of the disorganization. Very large selection of food but they could clean up and spruce up the place. The employees are worthless and did not greet so that takes away huge. The cashiers looked like they did not give a hoot and looked dissatisfied. Costco employees are welcoming and helpful. Once again I caught ShopRite. Do you know what a Vidalia onion looks like? According to ShopRite it's not their job. someone else puts the onions in the bin. they don't know who puts the onions in the bin marked Vidalia. I I took an onion mark sweet onion out of the bin that had a sign that says Vidalia onions. It did not look like a vidalia onion. The sticker on the onion said sweet onion. It did not look like a Vidalia onion. I have caught ShopRite doing this in the past. Last time the onions were marked product of Peru but they were under the sign that said Vidalia onion that happened in Hackensack New Jersey. This time the sticker said sweet onion product of USA. The produce manager agreed with me that it did not look like a Vidalia onion but it's not his responsibility , somebody else labels the onions not him. The other sweet onions in the store we're 99 cents the vidalia onions had a sign. $1.49 that is a big difference and because I have caught them doing this before it doesn't look like a mistake. read more

This grocery store is extremely crowded, can find yourself in a traffic jam in the aisles. The parking lot is filthy, with trash flying around in the air, tight parking and agitated drivers. So, why am I giving the Paramus Shoprite 3 stars instead of 1? PRICES! For a grocery store that 20-25 minutes to Manhattan, the prices at this Shoprite are worth a special trip. This Shoprite is absolute trash! First of all, I have never encountered a friendly employee here. It doesn't matter what department you're in- they're all rude, impolite and incompetent. Secondly, the prepared foods are dry, lukewarm and occasionally burnt. The aisles are narrow, and the product prices are mislabeled. Please check your receipt before leaving. I'm not one to review anything but restaurants usually, but this is by far the nicest, biggest, and overall best shop rite ever! It's certainly the best in the area as far as available products. They do not have self check out I'm pretty sure but because of the size of this place they have like 30 checkout lanes so I've never seen the lines get too terrible. Sunday may be the busiest day. Parking lot could get a little hectic at times, but I've never had to park too far. I was prepared to give 3 stars during my shopping, but after the checkout experience, downgraded to 2. The products are good, actually, with some interesting selections that you don't see elsewhere, lots of variety too. Even the seasonal/toys/candles etc are not bad at all. So that's a reason to go. However, I won't buy produce here...it's hit or miss and there are better places to go. So that's a negative. But overall, not bad and the dairy is fresh. So, at checkout went through with my shop rite bags which I began packing myself (mind you, not in a "pack yourself" aisle) but I needed extra bags. So the unfriendly cashier stands there. I asked for help packing the last items in their paper bags. He still stares. I actually had to say "I'm not in a pack your own aisle am I?" He proceeds to bag my items and the bag rips. He tries another bag and yep, it rips. Finally gets my items in and one of the handles rips. This is a great supermarket early in the AM. When I used to come here before the crowds I was thrilled. This whole huge supermarket more or less to myself. They carry everything. For reasonable process (for NJ anyway). They often have great specials running. Its near all the other shopping on Rt 4 though and can get super crowded alter in the am. Be aware of that. Parking is OK, but be prepared to walk. But you'll walk in the store too, did I mention its HUGE? I was here a few weeks ago picking up a preordered cake (not by me), and the cake was ready and looked great. But the lines at checkout were long. I came here to buy some desserts for a dinner potluck my friend was hosting and I was pleased. At first I was kind of skeeved out because the entrance to the store looks sketchy but once you go inside, I love the organization of it. There are plenty of parking outside in the parking lot and there are carts that people can take. This place is like a circle where you start off with the sales and fruit and then all refrigerated items are on the outside while the dry goods are in the inside/center of the store. The cashiers are nice but a bit slow, even in the 10 items or less aisle. Overall, I was pleased with their $2.99 apple and pumpkin pies as well as the 3 for $5 chips-ahoy that they have right now going on. read more

For years, I patronized this supermarket weekly. Now, I avoid it as much as possible. Since it carries a few items that I can't find elsewhere, I wait until I absolutely MUST have those items, and then I go on a day of the week and time of day when the store and parking lot are not a zoo (this requires extensive strategizing). Their wagons are constantly in need of repair. Most wagons pull to the right or left (usually to the left; why is that?). I noticed that I was usually in a bad mood when I left this supermarket; therefore, I've learned to shop elsewhere. There are actually supermarkets whose parking lot is better designed so that you can pull out of a parking space and leave the parking lot without being in fear of hitting another shopper. Ordered fried turkey breast for thanksgiving. I had been told to order a day before the holiday. I and my wife came as we were told and ordered to pick the order up at 11 am , the service lady had written our order in the notebook. When we came at 10 30 am we were told that our order did not exist . We took some leftover from the shelf. The food was terrible-very dry and tough and practically consisted of the bone. We had to throw all our thanksgiving turkey dinner out. Why they could not organize the service properly. We are using shoprite more than 25 years but nothing like that happened to us before. Violence from managers and staff is not ok. I have been shopping at this place for over 20 years. I have been vegan for over 25 years and I have always found a large variety of vegan options in this place, especially through the last years. I love the no dairy section, it is cheaper than whole foods; However, many of us witnessed vile violence from the manager and staff towards a very well known peaceful group of activists that were there not to harass shoppers but to bring awareness of the consequences to collaborate with the animal Ag and fishing industry in which many try hard to hide the truth form consumers. They were not there to attack the store but it brings awareness. I a, disgusted to see in the videos I watched the managers attacking one of the activists who is is an elderly lady, breaking up her sign and even pushing the other young activists and threatening to grab the camera which is an assault. It is legal to made videos inside groceries and it is a public shopping p[lace not quite legal property. The manager doesn't own that store, that store is owned by corporations who let it open for the public a d slave the workers with low paid and long hours. The managers shouldn't take it personally because we vegans are on the worker's side especially with coronavirus and during such a hard time (Eating animals breed pandemics, it is a zoonotic disease, like Mad cow, swine flu, also leads to climate change and most deadly illnesses). I have been supportive of them since ever. The managers and staff should not use violence to short disruptions. This is a country that freedom of speech is important and once US Citizens try to silent each other we will lose one of our most valuable rights as American Citizens and residents. Again animal rights activists are peaceful people, a no violent group, all the staff should do is to ask them to leave in which they were going to leave briefly anyway. I have watched many videos of disruptions from other stores, and the managers do not act like that, many of them allowed them to talk and ask them to leave politely. The only bad thing about this place is that I often see fights not only at this time from watching these videos. Bergen county is a crowded area so it would be best to better train the managers to keep it calm and do never use violence towards anyone, especially peaceful activists I later learn that one of them is actually a loyal customer. Vegans usually spend way more then than meat and animal products consumers. I feel bad for the managers at the same time because retailers literally slave people and they don't even have the time to research what the animal activists were trying to address which is animal cruelty, health issues, environmental destruction, and pandemics. read more

Instead of answering yes or no, she replies, "Well, how did you get it in there then?" * Baby is now 5 months old, but can not sit up yet, so I leave him in his car seat and place that in the large part of the basket. While Im grabbing a couple bags of Halloween candy for trick-or-treaters, a woman stocking the area reaches over me to grab a bag (not even sure why) The entire display dumps on my kid. She does not apologize or even bother to help me dig the baby out of the Snicker's Avalanche. * Today. Baby is 6 months old and finally able to sit in the front part of the basket with a little help from mama & a blanket. As I'm placing my items on the belt, she is chatting away with the woman in front of me. A friend whose kids play with hers according to their conversation. This takes a couple of extra minutes. I patiently wait while my baby starts crying. Finally, she is ready to ring me up and as I'm bagging my groceries with one hand, holding my son in the other, she asks another clerk to show her photos from a wedding that weekend. The clerk comes over and they starts scrolling through the cell phone. I can take no more and say, "No offense, but can we do this first so I can get my hungry baby home?" ** I worked in retail for 10 years (6 behind the counter and 4 corporate) I would never allow my employees to treat customers as though they are a burden. Not only that, the store was well-stocked with items that I needed for the pantry and fridge, but also had hand sanitizer and surgical gloves when many others simply did not during the corona crisis! I decided to go back to this store, and again, all of what I wrote above was true. I can see making this store a favorite of mine, in the future. It's time Shop-Rite takes the supermarket game to the next level. They've got so much product but don't seem to build big enough spaces for them. This store is not their largest but it's definitely one of the darkest. More light and cleaner aisles would be nice. It can be done. The shopping experience doesn't have to be a chore. It can be a positive experience as well. I'm not going to compare Shop-Rite to Whole Foods but they have some similarities, the most most glaring one being that they are supermarkets. But where Whole Foods excels, Shop-Rite falls flat on its face. Would it kill you to have vendors come out and give free samples of their products? What about sprucing up the joint to make it look like something you wouldn't mind shopping at in 2014? This is one of their newer stores and they've just dropped the ball. It feels tight and most store associates I come across seem unhappy. I realize the talent pool for this type of work isn't extensive, but you can at least train people to have a positive work ethic.
