A nice man walking by lifted the 25lb container into my cart. At check out, I asked the clerk if her scanner had a cord and could reach across the counter, while I explained that it was very heavy for me to lift. Instead of answering yes or no, she replies, "Well, how did you get it in there then?" * Baby is now 5 months old, but can not sit up yet, so I leave him in his car seat and place that in the large part of the basket. While Im grabbing a couple bags of Halloween candy for trick-or-treaters, a woman stocking the area reaches over me to grab a bag (not even sure why) The entire display dumps on my kid. She does not apologize or even bother to help me dig the baby out of the Snicker's Avalanche. * Today. Baby is 6 months old and finally able to sit in the front part of the basket with a little help from mama & a blanket. As I'm placing my items on the belt, she is chatting away with the woman in front of me. A friend whose kids play with hers according to their conversation. This takes a couple of extra minutes. I patiently wait while my baby starts crying. Finally, she is ready to ring me up and as I'm bagging my groceries with one hand, holding my son in the other, she asks another clerk to show her photos from a wedding that weekend. The clerk comes over and they starts scrolling through the cell phone. I can take no more and say, "No offense, but can we do this first so I can get my hungry baby home?" ** I worked in retail for 10 years (6 behind the counter and 4 corporate) I would never allow my employees to treat customers as though they are a burden. Without people shopping in your stores, you dont have a job! ** Fairway is a bit of a drive for me, but they just got an extra $300/week in sales. read more

It's time Shop-Rite takes the supermarket game to the next level. They've got so much product but don't seem to build big enough spaces for them. This store is not their largest but it's definitely one of the darkest. More light and cleaner aisles would be nice. It can be done. The shopping experience doesn't have to be a chore. It can be a positive experience as well. I'm not going to compare Shop-Rite to Whole Foods but they have some similarities, the most most glaring one being that they are supermarkets. But where Whole Foods excels, Shop-Rite falls flat on its face. Would it kill you to have vendors come out and give free samples of their products? What about sprucing up the joint to make it look like something you wouldn't mind shopping at in 2014? This is one of their newer stores and they've just dropped the ball. It feels tight and most store associates I come across seem unhappy. I realize the talent pool for this type of work isn't extensive, but you can at least train people to have a positive work ethic. You advertise this week Hanes T-shirt's $8.99, then underneath save $4 with digital coupon. The sign on the display says the same thing. Get to register and the T-shirt's come up $12.99 and then the digital coupon is deducted. The final price should be $4.99 according to your ad, not $8.99. These were on sale recently in your store and the final p4ice was $4.99. What a scam. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. read more

My mother is the customer of this store since 1986 and relatively well to do. She is in early 70th and sometimes forgetful. Last Tuesday, she was stopped for not paying an item which I she said she forgot to put it up. She paid for the item, however, the store take her name as the first time offender. She is extremely upset and angry. She apologized to the store and apparently a fat lady didn't take her words. She is totally embarrassed and felt humiliated. I suggest, going forward the store needs to ask cashier to check the carte as COSTCO, BJ and many other stores do, or it you hire a FAT lady to monitor the carte, her job should be to stop and ask if the person paid or not and make sure the store get paid. read more

Other than that, I shop at the Rochelle Park location, it's less crowded and they carry all the products I like. I usually frequent the shoprite in Rochelle Park because there's less customers compared to other one's. I usually come to this location if I want to grab food in the area. There's potbelly and pei wei in the shopping center across the street. The store is always packed. I guess because it's off a major highway, but I don't mind walking from a far parking spot. I love the fruit/veggie sales they have advertised. Always cheaper than walmart and I usually go here or hmart for my weekly grocery shopping (depending on which store has more cheaper produce that I'll buy in the weekly ad). No real complaints really except for that they don't have much variation for California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizza. Just bbq chicken, which the bf and I love, but he sometimes craves for pepperoni. The rochelle park location has lots of variation. They sell kosher sushi, which was interesting. There are overhead announcements about deals in the store. Apparently, you can buy deli meat online and pick it up whenever (not every store offers this). Relatively clean aisles. Lines move semi-fast. I have my shoprite card ready with any coupons I added online. If you didn't bring it, they can just look it up by telephone number you signed up with. I haven't had any problems with produce ringing it at a different price yet, which is way better than walmart. Just waiting for their B&J's ice cream pints to be on sale again. read more

The parking lot can be crazy and the folks try to run you over inside the store with their carts. The carts at the store are also very tiny. If there is a sale on bottle water 3 for $10 forget about it as you can't fit anything else in your cart. I asked management about this and they said that the aisles are kind of small. I don't think the aisles are small. This is why I rate the store 4 stars instead of 5. However, this store always has everything that you need and if you don't see it there are plenty of store managers around that you can ask. I've asked a few times for an item that might have run out and the managers are right on it. They will go into the stockroom and pull more out for you. I like that you can go into the store close to Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and although it's crowded, there's always enough staff at the checkouts where you don't have to wait more than 8 min in a line. I don't think I've stood 5 min. The bakery I love and I like that the store is open 24 hours. If you go during the overnight or early a.m. hours they are always replenishing the shelves. They have the best prices out of the supermarkets in the area. I was a Pathmark person but since they were taken over by A&P Pathmark stores suck to me. Their meat is questionable, the America Choice brand is garbage...I only use their pharmacy. I then shopped at Stop & Shop but the prices at the store are incredibly high. I only go if there is something on sale. I also like that they employ a very diverse staff. Shoprite is a one stop shop for me. I'm a fan! read more

I bought lobster and asked them to steam it for me. A woman working in seafood did so and handed me a cooked lobster when it was done. I went home to break open the lobster to eat and the tail was light green and mushy like goo. I never saw flesh like that before. I read later on a book about seafood that dead lobster's flesh turn to mush. I just asked her for the lobster and to steam it and I'll be back. I didn't examine it because I thought they wouldn't sell you dead lobsters. I try not to buy meat from there and just packaged goods like flour, cream cheese, sugar, and so on. I don't think their food is fresh even though it's so crowded (which usually means high turnover). I bought salmon from there (out of convenience) last night and it was bitter. The cause is likely a gall bladder that was not properly removed when cleaning. I got a stomach ache that night and into the next morning. I wanted to contact their manager at Shoprite, Paramus but there was no email. I don't think this is a just a complaint but it's illegal to sell dead lobsters or improperly cleaned fish. If the FDA or health department wanted to contact me for an affidavit or testimony feel free to do. I will respond via yelp etc. I think health inspectors should do something. I did see a floating lobster in the tank (meaning dead) another time. They don't throw them out (I believe) and give them to guys like me who don't pay attention. read more

The customer service at this location is amazing!! I couldn't find one thing on a very busy night and was surprised so many came to help including the manager (I didn't ask for him- he just came by). They checked their resources and found out it hasn't been stocked in over a month and told me why/ when it would be expected/ what aisle/....and what freezer door number to check! It's not a huge deal- but they spent a good amount of time with me and it just felt good that they didn't dismiss me or shrug their shoulders and walk away. They also stock more vegan friendly items than other shoprites in the area which is great. read more

Great value! The prices are very reasonable (especially as compared to other markets) and they have lots of items on sale. It is a great market to go to if you want to stock up on food or are planning a holiday meal or party. They also have a huge frozen food and also dairy section and sell brands that you can't find at other stores. Plus, they sell a lot of kosher products (a large assortment of prepared meals, sandwiches, deli, packaged desserts, challah, dairy products, and frozen items, etc). read more

Ya know when you're hungry and you see the hot/cold mini buffet in the deli area and you think "this seems risky" ...I can't speak for everything but I can tell you that you will regret not listening to that thought if you waste your money and health on their mozzarella balls and "antipasto salad". Just a fair warning and something I currently have regrets about. In general, this store is close to my office so I pick up random items. Staff is not really friendly - they seem pretty miserable, their prices aren't anything to call home about but like I said I am not doing all my shopping here, and the carts are pretty gross, dingy. Also weird to me that they're outside, but after a couple times being stuck turning around and asking where they were now I've got it down. The frozen food section is pretty large and the fruits and vegetables don't seem too bad usually, also I like that they usually have herbs on display unlike a lot of places I've been to. Don't get the rotisserie chicken, it's way overpriced and incredibly dry. Ideally, I would have liked to make this place a regular shopping location for me since it's very close to work and on my way home I could just pick up what we need but it certainly doesn't seem worth it the more I do utilize it. read more

Good store with full fledged Kosher department and great kosher butcher. They are open all the way until midnight.

First off, let me say that this is a larger Shoprite and they have a really great selection of items. I rarely find things are out of stock and always have plenty of things to choose from. They are conveniently located off Route 4 and happen to be really close to where I live. The people working at the courtesy counter are generally nice and pleasant to deal with. On the other side of this, the managerial staff is atrocious. I don't find the staff in general to be overly friendly but that is fine. The managers are so unpleasant that I dread having any issue where I need to interact with them. (there are 1 or 2 that are nice) I always feel like I am bothering them if I have a question or if my cashier calls them over for something with my order. This should not be. They are downright surly and I so not understand how they get away with this behavior dealing with the public. I know it is not just me as I have witnessed them being nasty to others as well. This behavior makes me want to shop elsewhere despite the positives of shopping here in Paramus. I happened to be in Ramsey yesterday and visited the Shoprite there. It is not as big but the people were so nice I was in shock. It is what prompted me to write this review. I am not a difficult or demanding person by any means, I just feel that if someone is in a customer service position they should be friendly, accommodating and pleasant. If I behaved at my job the way some of these managers do, I would be out of a job. read more

I would like this location more if I didn't feel like I was going to get mowed down in the parking lot. The parking is the worst deal of the whole thing. Inside isn't terrible, it's really crowded (at least when I went), they have a huge liquor and wine selection. They had some interesting prepared foods as well, the one by me doesn't have that (those bums). Other than that, just be prepared to walk quickly in the parking lot! read more

I really dislike this location. Nothing really against the prices or products, just everything else. It happens to be the closest one to where I live so I unfortunately have to frequent this shop rite on a regular basis. The parking lot is a disaster. It's just way too small for a shop rite that no matter what time of day, always seems to be crowded. It's very frustrating navigating your way to a parking spot and trying to pull out without hitting anyone. There's always people honking at each other, cursing, and getting into arguments in the parking lot. I try to always park in the back corners to avoid any contact with these maniacs. The carts are ridiculous. I hate having to get a cart because they always seem to be dirty and don't wheel right. Either the cart seems to veer off to one side or the wheels get messed up and it's hard to turn around corners. It's always very congested in the store and the employees are slow and unhelpful. Anytime you ask someone about a product your looking for they just say "we only have what's out here" and not even bother looking in the back. I had a guy behind the deli counter tell me I looked like a Unabomber because I was wearing a hoodie and had my sunglasses on inside. Guess he thought I looked suspicious, either way not really something you say to customers. I never went back to the deli counter after that comment. The cashiers always seem to be annoyed at everything and slow as hell. The lines are always long and frustrating even the "express 10 or less items" lanes. I always try and be in and out when food shopping especially after work when I just wanna get home. It's impossible to move around quick in this store because they always seem to have those big pallet carts they use to stock items laying around the aisles. So annoying! I'd expect those to be out if I went late at night but not in the middle of the afternoon! Between that and annoying people who stop mid aisle that block the lane, you can hardly get around! Don't even think about coming late morning/early afternoon on the weekdays if your in a rush because that's usually the time when the senior busses roll in. Don't get me wrong, I love old people, I work with them all the time, but it's annoying as hell when I'm trying to leave and there's always one who has to stop, take out their receipt and analyze it right on front of the exit door as I'm trying to go. Just move out of the way! The only plus is that they have a liquor store attached so after an aggravating shopping experience you can get yourself some booze. read more

No kidding! You see, that's the point! Your steak read $0.16. Who wouldn't grab that? Your competitor, A&P, stands by their mistakes they make. The fact that all three of you said "it's a human error" makes me angry. You don't think I picked it up because it was an error? You saying that implies I am an idiot. That is not an explanation as to why you "couldn't honor that price". I asked you for an explanation and your answer was "they weighed it wrong". You're the one that made the mistake! You should have to honor it. By the way, don't address people from 10 feet away as "oh that guy" when your staff points me out to you and they should not have to page you five times. I shop here all the time. Great selection of all natural and organic items. They've really stepped up and I'm glad I don't have to go to those expensive, elitist places where they jack up the prices. Sometimes they have really good clearance items at amazing prices, like of cheeses and hummus. The expiration date is always soon but who cares if you buy it and use it right away. Anyway, you get the best deals here. I would have given 5 stars but I've had several "issues" with coupons and have been dealt with rudely. read more

First off, the parking issues are true - I actually witnessed an accident and had to wait for the cops to come before I could pull out of my spot that was blocked by the offending cars, making me late for an appointment. Secondly, they are always out of what I want and their organic produce choices are horrible and usually rotting. Third, the carts are HORRIBLE. Every time I've gone I end up with a cart that has a half-broken wheel or veers horribly to one side once I put a little weight in it. read more

While unfortunately they are Dunkarooless, the sales associate I talked to was very nice. i love this shop rite. it's in a good location (right by rt 4, and not too far from 17) and its HUGE.. they have recently renovated it, and have a large selection of organic and health foods. in addition, there is a good liquor store inside and a bank. at the bottom of the supermarket (on the opposite site) there is a fitness gym and some other random store. read more

This stores aisles are very narrow, they have too many items and not enough room to pass another in the aisle. The produce dep't is good, the deli service and items are o.k. but the meat department is horrible. When ever a holiday promotion for free hams, turkey's etc. arrive they put out spoiled, brown, rotted Cook's hams mixed with the newer hams. I have been complaining multiple times over the past two years about this. The employees in the meat dep't. say that their new meat manager told them they have to put them out. Don't they realize that when customers see rotted meat they will just not trust any of the meat? I have stopped buying any meats from this store. The shopping carts are another issue. The wheels catch or stop working so you either can not move(roll) the cart or it goes only in one direction, very defective carts. The women at the courtesy desk are very nice and helpful! Most of the cashiers are pleasant though,very quick and work hard. Love Shop-Rite prices but I do not like this Paramus store! read more

This shop rite is horrible. If I could give it zero stars I would. It is difficult to get through the aisles because they pack them up with additional items making it hard to get by. The meat department is one of the worst I have ever seen. The way the meat gets packed makes it look disgusting and like no one cared what they were doing. This store has a serious problem. I shopped there and had a cart full of food along with two cases of water. I piled all the food on the conveyor, packed it all up and paid. I was then unceremoniously pulled into a tiny room by security and accused of stealing two cases of water. How did I steal two cases of water? Did I conceal it under my coat? Did I hide it under boxes of cereal? It was highly visible in the cart. I was humiliated, told that this was a warning and that I had to put everything in the cart on the conveyor belt. I assured security I was not trying to steal water and thought the cashier had gotten it especially since he walked around the counter to help me with bags. I had to then go back into the store and pay for the water, of course I started to put it on the conveyor belt and was told I don't have to put the water on the conveyor belt! Someone in that store needs to get their stories straight. Be careful in this store, they must have so much theft that they think everyone is out to steal. read more

Yesterday I was in the Shoprite of Paramus around 7. I went to get on a line to pay and a cashier named Ian continued to tell me he was closed. I came back in around forty minutes later and he was still there. While there the first time he was very rude and cursed. He said "I'm fucking closed. Do you understand that?" I've never been treated so rudely by any cashier before. He then continued to let someone else online when I went to move. Did not say anything. When I decided to try the same line again, he asked if I was "fucking stupid" because I got back on the line. I would expect more from a place. I've been here numerous of times and never had an issue until the past few months. Every time this man is here I'm disrespected. I'm going to find another food store at this point and tell other customers to go where I'm changing to. This place makes me feel uncomfortable. A cashier cursing and calling a paying customer stupid.. That needs to change. He goes or a good amount of customers go. read more
