Food Poisoning + Bad Service I ate here with a party of 8 - it was about my 5th time here. Nothing but good things to say until this point. However, after this night I'll never eat here again. The waitress started off by asking half the table for drinks then rushing off. We all had to ask separately for water, which she said she would bring out anyway. Then the salads and soups came out all at different times - only after asking for them when it took 5 minutes longer then the first one that came out. At this point the waitress still hadn't apologized for anything. Then the meals came out - before she even handed my wife her lasagna, she said, "I can take this back to the kitchen, I wouldn't even eat it". It was burnt very badly. My wife, trying to be nice said she would try it. She ended up giving it back to the manager. Then the new dish ended up coming out well after everyone else was finished with their dinner. To cap it off, the crab cakes I ordered had me up at 2am with a severe case of food poisoning. My entire next day was ruined. Take that for what it's worth - but don't get the crab cakes!! read more

If there were more dining choices in the area, it would be very difficult to give this place more than two stars. The atmosphere is decent and wait staff very happy and friendly. Ample seating outdoors during nice days. The menu was very tame. Food was unprofessionally prepared. My friend and I started with the fruit nachos (salted tortilla chips covered with melted cheese, diced chicken, Jalapenos, diced tomato, shredded lettuce, and an assortment of cubed fruit). Trust me, it sounded crazy to me as well at first. But, the unique combination of salt, sweet, and spicy was amazing! It was a flawless dish and signature only to this restaurant. If you are in the area, this is a must have. Sadly, that's where the great experience ends. My friend and I both ordered burgers. Both patties were tiny and dry - his was undercooked, mine was over cooked. The brioche used for the rolls were notably not fresh made and were chewy. Fries came from a frozen bag. As for the other menu options, boring! You'd expect a place that serves a superb fruit nacho plate to be more daring and inventive with their choices. You'd also expect them to know how to cook well. I wasn't a fan. Although everyone was very nice, the food itself wasn't anything unique. The crab on the deviled crab eggs was not fresh and had a faint smell. Not a fan. Had high hopes for this place upon our entrance and based on previous reviews. Came here with my mom, dad, and sis while visiting them for Thanksgiving on a late Sunday afternoon. The restaurant looked awesome from inside, very cozy. Unfortunately, service was very poor along with just average food. Ordered the grouper, it was really not awesome. My mom ordered the salmon, she thought there wasn't enough flavor, but upon trying it I thought it wasn't bad. My sister ordered a sandwich which she didn't finish as did my dad. That being said, it took almost 40 minutes for our food to come out, with who I am presuming is the manager, acting as a server for it appeared to be his "preferred customers." There were maaaybe six tables to watch, so not crowded. Our table, along with others who had the younger servers, watched as these particular tables received their appetizers, then their meals before we had even received our table bread. We we not asked how our food was once, and the service staff had a very cool demeanor towards their tables besides the select tables with the older manager. This is not a "snobby" restaurant by any means, which is why I was surprised. The vibe is very homey, but I couldn't help but feel as though I was in NYC at a posh restaurant wearing sweatpants from the way the service staff acted towards patrons. Don't recommend. read more

After hiking the falls, we stopped in this cute little town for dinner. There were quite a few options, but this place had some of the better reviews and didn't seem to have that long of a wait (as by this point we were starving). We were waited on by about 3 different servers, all very friendly and ensured we were satisfied. I ordered the lasagna rolls, which were phenomenal. My boyfriend ordered a bean burger, even though it was up to par in taste, presentation was an absolute fail. It fell apart after the first bite and wasn't edible as a burger. First off when me and my wife were sat and given our silverware, we unrolled the silverware they were rapped in dirty napkins and my knife was dirty. The tea urns are undoubtedly dirty and haven't been cleaned in quite some time which was very evident by the taste of it. To the point that even lemons added to the tea didn't help the taste. Our food sat under a heat lamp for way to long which burnt it. Our loaded cheese fries (wedges) didn't come with scallions on them which they were supposed to and when asked for some they brought us the big white part of them cut into about 1 inch to 1.5 inch wide pieces. My adult beverage that I ordered hadn't been shaken or mixed at all that I could tell. And finally the food itself was just horrible. The only good experience about this was that our waitress was kind and attentive. Unfortunately that is not enough to bring us back. A great way to start a Sunday morning. I visited Shortfields this morning with my boyfriend. We chose to sit outside. The covered patio area has fans, TVs, and provides a lot of shade. The table next to us had a cute well-behaved dog. I really like places that allow dogs and will probably bring mine the next time I visit. The wings were delicious. I chose the Garlic Ranch sauce because it's one of my favorites. I do wish there was a little more sauce on the wings but it was still good. My boyfriend got the Chicken and Waffles. They were all gone before I even had a chance to try them. So while I can't speak for myself on how they were, I'm going to assume that they were delicious as well. (Next time, I'll make sure to get a bite before he devours them). Great meal. Will be returning again and again. read more

I enjoyed the food but from what i could gather from the entrees we tried, it was nothing exceptional for the price point. The location is pretty cool and they have outside seating on the patio as well as a lounge area with some nice couches to cool your feet. Fish Tacos! I've been on a fish taco kick lately, tho they are hard to find. These were really tasty, and different than any others I've had, in a good way. Each bite had a different flavor. Savory mahi-mahi, sweet coleslaw, spicy Pico de gallo, maybe some chili sauce? I am not sure what all it was, but it was delish! Savory, smokey, sweet, spicy, crunchy, I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you like fish Tacos with lots of taste and a little spicy, give them a try. read more

My first time here -- having lunch. Relaxed atmosphere, large bar area, varied menu. I will come again to try another item on the menu.

Ambiance was nice, and wait staff was friendly. Server took drink order within five minutes of us being seated. We were seated right before dinner crowd began arriving. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles with a side of string beans. This was my first time to eat chicken and waffles, so I am no expert at how they should be served. The fried chicken breast was very moist, and very delicious. The coating was flavorful and welcome. The waffles were cut into eight sections (two large waffles cut into quarters), served with a small serving of syrup. While the chicken was moist and flavorful, the waffles were dry and, well, tasted like dry waffles. Perhaps I've had to many trips to Waffle House, but some warm butter to compliment the waffles would have been a welcome addition! The string beans were fresh, and perfectly cooked (in my opinion) with pieces of bacon. After adding a pinch of salt to the beans, they were just right. I sampled a taste of my wife's Thick Cut Pork Chop, which was tasteful, and beautifully plated. The meat was tender and moist, despite being cooked well done, per my wife's request. The garlic mashed potatoes were homemade, and the little sampling off her plate was pleasantly received by my awaiting taste buds. I did not sample the Shortfields Burger that was served, however it looked delicious. All entrées were photographed, and the photos have been shared along with my review. I recommend this place. Plan to spend about $20 per person, including a non-alcoholic beverage, during dinner unless you order a sandwich or burger. Appetizers run between $6 dollars and about $10 dollars. We didn't order the fried pickles, however the table next to us did, and they looked tasty. read more

We've eaten here, and gotten take out, several times. It's ok. Some nights better than others. I shears get the veggie burger, since there are very few vegetarian options. It's terrible. The flavor is fine, but it seriously need a binder. As soon as I pick it up the Patty falls out in pieces. Usually I can just eat it with a fork. Tonight however it was raw inside. It was like black bean soup not black bean burger. We had ordered takeout and had at home, so there was nothing I could do but throw it out. And our relator I'm still pretty grossed out. read more

for food its the best, we're traveling for the summer and stayed in Travelers Rest for 10 days. Shortfields was recommended so we tried it the first nite in town. The prime rib was the special for the nite and my wife and I split it. Plenty big enough for both of us and excellant. So good we tried the place again later in the week. The shrimp & grits were the best ever and again before we left town one more time, thinking we might get lucky again, and sure enough the trout was perfect & big, and the crab cakes also were great. I eat here at least once a month and the service and food are consistently very good. I especially like the Shortfield's burger as well as the salads. The staff always greets me with a smile and followed by friendly and quick service. There is parking near the entrance as well as behind the building so it's easy and accessible. Shortfields seems to have done a nice job of integrating themselves into the fabric of travelers rest. I use shortfields as my local sports viewing establishment as they have plenty of seating and a good display of televisions without being gaudy. Ultimately the price of shortfields is a bit high but this is a nicer establishment. read more

Used to be my favorite wing place. I always order 2 pounds which is like 18$. Lately they only put about 6 wings in each box for two flavors when it was originally more. Reviewing the Shortfields in Travelers Rest. We split a really greasy flatbread pizza, ordered a side salad and had 2 glasses of bad wine at $8 a pop. The food was horrible. The server was friendly but couldn't remember much of anything. Our flatbread came with the wrong ingredients and a layer of grease floated on top. The salad was ok. Then we order a dessert to split. The server assured us the owners made the desserts fresh. First try, pecan cheesecake... they were out. Second try, chocolate cake with cheesecake ... also out. Third try, chocolate cake. They had that. There is no way this cake was either fresh or homemade. It was dry, stale and tasted like it had been frozen a long time then thawed out. It was disgusting just like our flatbread pizza. One thing I noticed that grossed me out was they keep their little metal baskets with ketchup and mustard at floor level right by a door. Some of the bottles are turned upside down and are getting dirty from the foot traffic. The shelf the ketchup and mustard sit on are an inch off a dirty floor. read more

Wedge salad is the BOMB! We had crab cakes, wedge salad of course, and I had chicken and waffles. Since the entree came with a salad... And I already HAD a salad, I decided to have some veggies instead. It was sautéed summer squash, zucchini, and red pepper... Very good! I am so full... OMG! If I can't stop eating... It's good! Stopped in for lunch at around 11:45. The place wasn't too busy in the bar area where I chose to sit. One table had four people and there was one other person there. I bellied up to the bar and waited quite a while to be approached. Not a good sign. I ordered my food, the Greek salad, and the bartender basically disappeared. My water was empty the majority of the time. I thought maybe she was super busy (although nobody was there), but she wasn't. On my way out of the establishment, I noticed the bartender just hanging out in the front entrance area talking to either customers or other workers, not sure which. Where I come from, the bartender stays behind the bar. There was a window for the food to the bar, so there really wasn't a reason for her to NOT be behind there. The salad was pretty good and had plenty of toppings. A cute little place but with the service the way it was, I wouldn't go back. I can deal with a lot of bad parts to a restaurant, like bad food or bad environment, but poor service is a sure way to lose my business. 2.5 stars read more

I saw they were on restaurant week for dinner so we decided to check them out for lunch to see what they're about. Immediately upon walking in I realized it would be normal American pub fare which is okay, just not what we typically eat. Our server was very good, calm, attentive & friendly. A perfect kind of waiter that gives space but pays attention when needed. I ordered the Cuban with fries, my s/o ordered the club with fries, and we got fried pickles. The pickles with the sauce were very salty. Not terrible but thirsty for hours afterwords from an abnormal amount of sodium. His club was okay. The fries looked beautiful but tasted like it was fried in oil that fries fish. So not a clean potato flavor which made us kind of sad. They needed ketchup. The Cuban didn't come with the honey mustard but was brought upon request, it was more honey than mustard. The flavors weren't really balance or packing a punch that a normal Cuban has. I added more yellow mustard to make it a little better. So all in all, not a terrible place to go, but nothing outstanding. It's not the best feeling full and thirsty hours after eating there. Would not return, it's just not a good fit for us. read more
