I already had an infection from a botched job somewhere else plus a not so smart er doctor my nipple where Swollen, angry, red as hell--I thought I'd have to rip them out myself. But Shorty just took one look, no drama, and said, "Sit. We're fixing this." TLDR: I went in for a naval piercing and left without one and paid $20. With the unfriendly and unprofessional staff, hot and stuffy room, the piercer's baby crying in the small shop, and unclean practices I chose to leave. When I first walked in the male at the desk was not very friendly and did not even greet us. We were handed over to the piercers and one asked the other "Do you want her or do you want me to take her?" the other responded "I don't care". At this point I'm don't really feel like a valued customer, I'm just whatever to them. Not one person said hello to me, introduced themself, or even asked me my name. The whole process felt like I was being rushed and they wanted me in and out very quickly (despite no other customers in the shop). I was moved to the small room in the back and every question I asked felt like I was bothering the piercer, giving me short answers instead of helping me to make a decision. The jewelry did not seem properly sterilized, just quickly sprayed down, no autoclave machine. I did not even see the piercer wash her hands. With the unfriendly and unprofessional staff, hot and stuffy room, the piercer's baby crying in the small shop, and unclean practices I chose to leave. I did have to pay $20 because the piercer said she already opened the needle (which was opened before selecting jewelry and marking). Not complaining because I understand those are her supplies, but I wish she waited until she saw that I was ready and comfortable. I can't believe I'm writing a Yelp review for a piercing place but maaaaaan Mops and Amber made this the first and best experience for our kids. Y'all I'm still in the car, barely left the parking lot but I had to come here and throw my thoughts down so you could come experience this for yourself. The vibe in here is everything. Honestly? Old sf city vibes. I'm talking Haight street before it got gentrified ok. They make you feel at ease, they know what they doing, and somehow in the 15 mins we were there I almost invited them to family dinner? If you have a baby or a teenager --- they gonna be taken cared of foreal. Our middle child didn't get anything done but he did cry because he felt bad for his little sister, and Mops made him feel better with lollipop and all to raise his spirits. Shorty did my piercings at another shop. The jewelry was bad so I had a lot of drainage. I didn't realize the jewelry was bad until I went to the another shop. Found out the angle and jewelry were bad. Ultimately I had to remove be because I wasn't pierced right from the beginning. I had a hole develop on the side of my piercing. Ultimately had to take me out. Now if I want to them done again I have to do them a different angle because of the track was created wrong and I can't redo it. Looks like shorty got her own shop. Shorty was able to fit me in same day to remove a daith earring I was struggling to remove. Service was prompt, professional, and friendly. I paid $20 to remove and put another earring I had in. Shorty also patiently explained how to remove the earring I had trouble removing with tools and how that looks. She was kind, patient, and quick. If I ever want more piercings, I'll definitely check out Shorty. The shop was clean and the waiting area was nice. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone was also great told me to stop by and made us laugh a bit while waiting. My review isn't for the owner/piercer. My review is based on the guy at the front desk who was rude to me and my sister. When we entered into the building, I fretted him and he stared at me and my sister and proceeded to look at his phone. I mentioned that we were there for a jewelry change and he responded "ok" . So I asked if she was here .. and he responded "yea"..... so me and my sister sat down in awkward silence for a min. I tried to make conversation y asking about his work and he kept responding with patronizing comments and acted annoyed by our presence. Eventually we were pulled to the back and I liked how knowledgeable she was. However, i learned that day that she is the owner and he works for her. If she is allowing someone like that to be apart of her team then I am sure she is aware of how he treats her customers. It is unfortunate because I love her work and I loved my jewelry. Shorty's is THE spot for tattoos and piercings! I initially came here three years ago for a third ear piercing and after talking with Mopps (the guy at the front who is absolutely amazing), I decided to come back (three years later) for my first tattoo. I have wanted to get tatted since I was in my twenties, and when I recently celebrated my 59th birthday I knew (1). it was finally time to get a tattoo and (2). Shorty's was the place I would come to for this momentous event. I admit I was nervous as I have heard so many stories of how tattoos are so painful. What I learned from Mopps and my new tattoo artist, Woodie, is it really depends on who is giving you your tatt. Woodie, who is now the ONLY guy who will ever put tattoos on my body, did an amazing job. He has a 'light hand' (this was not my terminology but is true) and honestly, the process barely hurt. I have a severely low tolerance for pain, and while the tatt is on my upper arm and I did have a book on Kindle that I was listening to in order to help keep myself calm, the overall process was incredibly smooth and comfortable. (Side note, no, I did not use any numbing creams), and Mopps came into the room where I was getting my tattoo several times to check on me, which I truly appreciated. Squirrel, the newest member of this awesome crew, (yes, that is her nickname) also stopped by to watch Woodie work and check on me as well. I did come into the shop with an idea of what I wanted, however after talking with Woodie and getting a feel for his personality, I gave him the freedom to be as creative as he wanted. Ironically the picture of what I wanted was one of Woodie's creations, which I learned from him during our initial conversation. I do appreciate that he chose to give me another original creation and not a replica of something he had already done however he did incorporate aspects of the work I wanted into my tattoo. I was so incredibly pleased with my tattoo that I am already planning go go back (to Woodie, of course) for a second tattoo before the year ends. The entire shop is very sterile and I appreciate Woodie and Mopp's advice (which I followed to the letter) regarding tattoo aftercare. Overall the entire crew at Shorty's is absolutely AMAZING. I met Shortie when I first came to the shop for my third ear piercing (she did the piercing and is incredibly kind). Her amazing personality, along with Mopp's awesome demeanor was what gravitated me back to the shop. Woodie is incredibly talented and was just absolutely amazing. He did an incredibly fantastic job on my tattoo and I am so thankful he was my tattoo artist. The environment was very relaxing and the old school R& B that was playing added to the overall vibe of the environment. As a woman of color I felt completely comfortable, totally relaxed and peaceful throughout this entire process. I highly recommend giving any of the tattoo artists here a try as they are all amazing, but of course I am highly preferential towards Woodie. I tip my hat to this crew and admit I will never go anyplace else for my tattoos. I told myself I will get one additional tattoo (tattooing, as I have discovered, is addictive, but in a good way), however even when I move out of California, if I ever decided to get a third tattoo I will fly back to California just to come to Shorty's for Woodie to give me that last and hopefully final tatt. A friend once told me once you find a good hairdresser you stay with that person, even if you have to travel far to get your hair done. Everyone may not agree with this statement, but I feel the same about a good tattoo artist. The piercer was super nice and helped me a lot. Clean shop, very professional, answered my questions thoroughly. I thought I had found a reputable piercing studio close to home. I would for sure recommend this place if I didn't know better. I didn't get any piercings here. I needed a new barbell put in for my rook piercing. I had recently got my helix pierced and it had developed a bump. I asked what could be done about it. She recommended this cream and told me to continue cleaning it with it saline wound wash but dry it with a q-tip or paper towel. I don't know any better so I do it. Past forward to today. I'm having surgery tomorrow so I go to the usual piercing studio I love to get all my piercings taken out. My helix is super angry and I ask if at this point I should let it heal then repierce it. She agrees and goes to take the jewelry out and clean it. She asks me if I had been cleaning it with a q-tip or paper towel. I'm like yeah, this lady at this other place told me too so the bump would go away. She tells me I need to let it air dry. She explains some technical knowledge that I forget but like I said, the gist is let it air dry. This place was super awesome, I loved the piercer. The vibe of the place was great. I would definitely recommend this place. I'm leaving this review though because of the bad information I received. Who knows what exactly caused my piercing to go awry but don't dry your piercings with q-tips or paper towels. I'm laughing, I'm not too mad, like I said it's probably 96% my fault. Amber (Shorty) is really great! I've taken both of my kiddos for their first ear piercings at about age 5 and both times were great experiences. One of them was a bit more scared and she went above and beyond to help her feel good about her piercing and move past the temporary pain. She also helped me remove a really old piercing that was challenging to get out and replaced it with something better. I would recommend her and her shop to anyone. Shorty's a professional through and through. Her shop is clean and hygienic. She welcomes walk-ins 1pm-4pm on Saturday (that's when I went) I arrived at 1pm and she already was piercing someone. She's patient and answers all your questions regarding the procedure and aftercare. My niece and I went for nose piercings. Note: don't park directly in front of her shop, her receptionist will quickly point to a spot in the lot telling you to move. He looks scary but is very nice. read more

She greeted us and got us in right away. She is friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. The whole process was done with all sanitized and clean tools. She knew exactly how to place the ring, and was very efficient. It took less than 10 minutes to get both done. I even got to ask some questions about piercing care because I tend to keloid. She had the answers, and was great at explaining things. We will be coming back soon once this one heals to get my son's other side done. BEWARE: I recently had an appointment with Bianca for a belly button piercing, and while I initially enjoyed the overall experience, I'm left feeling extremely disappointed due to a major mistake and the lack of accountability that followed. During the appointment, Bianca was friendly and professional, which made me feel comfortable at the time. However, I didn't realize until I got to my car and took a closer look that the piercing was in the wrong location. Shocked, I immediately went back into the shop to address the issue with her. When I confronted Bianca about the mistake, she acted as though the incorrect placement was exactly what I had requested. While she did mention that I could come back if there were any issues, she didn't take responsibility for her error or even acknowledge that a mistake had been made. Instead, she played along with my initial shock and confusion, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. The problem isn't just the misplaced piercing--accidents can happen. The real issue is the lack of accountability. As a professional piercer, I expected Bianca to take ownership of her work and ensure her clients are satisfied and confident in her skills. A simple acknowledgment of the mistake and an offer to fix it properly would have gone a long way. I contacted the manager about the situation, hoping for some resolution, but I also left feeling dismissed and disbelieved. The manager mentioned that some piercers don't re-pierce in the same hole, which caught me completely off guard since I was never informed of this during my appointment. This lack of informed consent is unacceptable, as it left me with no clear understanding of my options or potential limitations. Out of frustration, I threatened legal action, as I felt Bianca's actions were highly unethical, unprofessional, and immoral. However, I was quickly reminded of the informed consent form I signed, which I will still be requesting from the shop for my records. In hindsight, I believe Bianca was likely just scared, which is why she played along with my shock and naiveness rather than addressing the mistake directly. The manager did offer to fix the piercing herself, but I declined because her energy was off-putting, and her overall response felt far from customer-oriented. She also mentioned that the shop offers no refunds because the equipment used for the piercing "comes straight out of her pocket." My question is, for a clear and avoidable mistake like piercing in the wrong location, why isn't the customer compensated--especially if they no longer feel safe getting re-pierced at the same shop? For context, this was a re-piercing, and I knew it was in the wrong location because I had a visible scar from my previous piercing. Bianca even marked the correct spot with a sharpie over the scar but still somehow pierced in the wrong place. This is not just an accident; it is a failure in attention to detail and the lack of accountability from both Bianca and the manager. read more

Shorty is amazing! She's incredibly kind, attentive, and professional. However, my experience with the male secretary was frustrating and disappointing. He was rude, condescending, and unprofessional, which really detracted from my overall experience at the shop. When I came in for my piercing appointment, I was confident about wanting three piercings on the same ear. Instead of supporting my decision, he repeatedly questioned me and even made belittling comments, saying things like, "Other people come in, but they're used to it. They have the experience." Considering he wasn't the one performing the piercings or living with the results, I don't understand why he felt the need to talk down to me. I brushed it off as him having a bad day and chose not to review the shop at that time. Unfortunately, I had another negative encounter with him more recently. I stopped by the Mexican restaurant next door and planned to ask about sizing down my piercings while I was there. He came out and questioned where I was going, then rudely informed me that parking for the Mexican restaurant was next door. When I responded saying "Okay, that's okay", he continued to insist, saying, "No. Parking for the restaurant is over there. Do you not see my sign?" His tone and attitude were unnecessary and uncalled for. \ 1. I was getting takeaway, and planned to order then walk back to the shop while the staff cooked my meal to ask what size jewelry I had in and if I was good to size down. 2. I have parked in that parking lot every time I visit that restaurant. It has never an issue in the last 4 years I've been. Not only that, but there were other parking spots available. I was in and out of the restaurant within 10 minutes or less and AGAIN. When I left, "His shop" still had plenty of parking. I understand informing customers of policies and letting them know that the parking lot is not actually a part of Durangos, but there is a certain way that someone in customer service should handle things. He is severely lacking in this. I'm super bummed that this was my experience with the shop. I love supporting local businesses and planned to make the shop my go-to for piercings and tattoos but I will not be going back, nor will I recommend the place to anyone in the future. Would I recommend this place? Honestly, no. But I would absolutely recommend Shorty--she's the one shining star in an otherwise unpleasant environment. read more

Everything was opened in front of you. The needles, ointment used, etc. I was looking for a place to have our daughters ears pierced for quite some time and I knew I wanted to get it done by a professional versus at the mall. We've heard that having your baby's ears pierced at an actual piercing/tattoo shop is the best way to go since it's less traumatic and the healing process is much better. Shorty has pierced so many babies/kids before so I'm glad we found her on here. Our baby's ears weren't even red afterwards. They didn't even swell up. I was holding my daughter while Shorty pierced her ears. I didn't even have to hold her head while she did the piercing. I think our baby cried more during her immunization shots. My husband said she didn't even look traumatized afterwards. Shorty made the experience worthwhile and I'm so glad we finally got our 7 month old's ears pierced!
