This place was gooood. We got seated right away in a booth, but theres family style picnic tables closer to the center which makes for good usage of the space. Our waiter seemed a little new but he was super nice and attentive enough for us to enjoy the meal. The food itself is amazing. A bit pricey but for the amount of food you get, its totally worth it. The only thing I didnt like was the sauce for my ribs (it comes separate, its not the sauce the ribs come with). The brisket sauce was wayyy better. But overall the ribs, BBQ chicken and brisket were delicious! Also enjoyed their coleslaw a lot. For an appetizer we shared the fried green tomatoes. Honestly, anything fried is delicious. My wife and I recently visited Shorty's BBQ and used a coupon that saved us about $7 or $8, which was a great start to our meal. I ordered the Pork Steak with Coleslaw and Fries, while my wife had the Spare Ribs with the same sides. We both got a side of Garlic Bread, which was also very good--my wife especially liked it. The pork steak was tasty, and the coleslaw was awesome--definitely a highlight of the meal. I'm not a big fan of fries, but I have to admit that these were very good. My wife thought her ribs were just okay. After that, I also ordered a Beef Brisket Plate. Unfortunately, this was the biggest disappointment. The brisket was too dry for us; most of the pieces were overcooked. We did find two or three pieces that were really juicy, but they were the exception. The service was good, and overall, it was a positive experience, especially considering the savings from the coupon. Employee got my order wrong and neither her or the manager apologized for the mistake and misunderstanding in their part that led to me having to drive back TWICE during rush hour traffic. They also constantly change their reward system so even a lifelong customer such as myself somehow has no account and no birthday reward. This review is really for one person, Sofia, who handles pickup orders at Shorty's on Bird Rd. She is and has always been outstanding! Just to provide some context, I've been a customer of Shorty's for many years and I've been to other outlets of theirs as well. Sofia has handled my order a number of times. She stands out from all others for two main reasons, other than always being kind, courteous and polite. The first reason is she always opens the food containers to show me the order is accurate. No one else has ever done this so it means it must be her own initiative. By doing this, any issues can be dealt with on the spot. I don't have to worry about getting home, only to find out the order is wrong or missing something if I didn't have the time to check it myself before I left the restaurant. There have been a number of times I've picked up my order that was handled by someone else and I was so aggravated after finding out later the order was incorrect. The second reason she stands out is she has an absolute perfect track record. She has never gotten my order wrong...ever! We had lunch at around 3:PM give to take on Monday the 2nd of June 2026 a couple of days ago.....let me start by saying that a long time ago we had come here twice and the food was preheated at best and dried out, not fresh at all and decided not to come back again, but since the location in Doral has gone out of business which was very consistent with good fresh barbecue, and my wife loved the food there, she mentioned we gave this place another try, and we did, hoping it was better this time around, one thing we both noticed right away was the woman waiter looked at me a little harder than normal, which we found it to be odd, to summarize this review, about 2 hours after we ate there I felt horribly ill, with the worst stomach cramps and aches, we had to drive home asap, and we were far away, it was a grueling drive, as soon as we were home I was vomiting, and sitting on the toilet uncontrollably sick, it lasted the whole night, even after taking large amounts of Pepto and Imodium, I couldn't find relief, still by the next morning I was still light headed, off and nauseous, it lasted about 2 days to start felling better, my bill was $97.00 and change plus we gave her a $20.00 tip and paid in cash, I put that as a reference in case management is interested in looking into this, I had the Baby back Ribs/ Chicken combo, my wife the Chicken/Brisket combo and my 4 year old daughter had the Mac and Cheese, nothing out of the ordinary, I don't have a weak stomach at all, I ate the chicken and barely ate the some of the ribs, which makes this even more strange, there was nothing that I ate that any one would consider heavy, spicy and unhealthy, it was a horrible experience, I am glad that nothing happened to my wife and daughter, I still feel guilty that I went along and took them there, something could have happened to them also, I hope management look into this, but I wouldn't hold my breath, I seen real bad management there before that I would go the extent to call it a real waste of payroll, I can only tell you as a father and family man; don't expose your family to this place !!!!!! read more

We are greeted right away by hostess. I was seated by a corner due to needing a high chair for a toddler. Waitress got our order. Place was out of corn bread. Unfortunately, cleanliness was very bad. Went on a Saturday night and the restaurant wasn't busy but had a constant flow of traffic. Was helped out by our server Maria S. She was fantastic. She didn't rush us, allowed us time to talk and relax. Best part is She truly encouraged us to return and was proud of where she worked. In regards to the food, I ordered a corn as a starter. Be careful the butter was HOT! Even though I may have burned my mouth a bit, it was worth it! Great way to start dinner. This was followed by burnt ends which had great flavor. A bit larger than other places but they were great. My meal was the brisket and chicken platter. My only cocomplaint is the chicken wasn't good. I expected a sliced piece of chicken like their menu but received 2 pieces of chicken (drumstick and thigh) that were extremely dry and lacked flavor. The fried green tomatoes were right. The fries were ok. The meat would have I think been good but I was a bit scared to eat it or had to pick through. You see the packed piping hot food (it is good the food was hot not cold) in styrofoam containers. You know what hot fries out the fryer or hot meat off the grill or hot fried green tomatoes out the fryer does to styrofoam? Well it melts it straight through. I was afraid the components of the styrofoam were in or on my food. So I really could not enjoy the food for my safety and health. The food came with the right temperature and in good display. The follow up service was good. The ambience was nice as it is a family venture or if you are coming with friends. Now the part where I am a bit negative about. Order an extra side and it never came. Although server passed by several times never brought it. Once I finished I asked for the bill and I payed cash, the change was incomplete missing coins....I am very strick when it comes to that aspect of a transaction. I have honestly been here about a billion times since I was a kid back in the 1970's...a favorite spot of my family since the 1940's! The interior feels exactly the same as all those years ago and the smells when you arrive on-site gets your mouth watering immediately. The seating inside is picnic bench "communal style" seating, which I have always liked. I get the same exact order every time I go...mostly due to the fact that I'm a rib guy through and through...spare rib platter with a side of corn on the cob (in a moat of melted butter) and a sweet tea. My favorite way to eat these ribs is to mix together the two available sauces...the "warm" one that comes straight from the drippings used to make it and the tableside squeeze bottle. The drippings sauce is hearty and vinegary while the squeeze sauce is a bit tangier, they make a great combo! Small side of cole slaw is very creamy and I'm a huge fan of crinkle-cut fries. They messed up my wife's order but quickly fixed it. My problem is that the food was not warm. The wings were perfect but the food chicken ribs and the brisket was almost cold.
