I had the Carlos Santana pizza which had avocados, lime, pico, and taco seasoned ground beef. It was like my favorite taco in pizza form and was delicious. Service took awhile to get the pizzas out but I don't blame them since I was a part of a party or 7. You have the option to pick one of their speciality pizzas (which had creative names) or build your one. For dessert, I had the s'mores pizza which was pretty charred and really gooey. Meh, cool ideas but generally pretty poor execution. I've eaten here about a dozen times over the last few years. There are some perpetual problems. From the always soggy, limp pizza crust, slightly dirty dining area, rough bathrooms, to the overly casual service. Every time has been "Man, that wasn't terrible but not as good as it should have been" Last time I got a chicken salad melt sandwich which I've enjoyed before. But this time the cheese covered chicken resembled a burnt fried egg. The entire bottom was blackened. Sent it back and got a new one fairly quick but with no apologies. Meat was dry and tasteless, completely overwhelmed by the bread, even after taking off the top and eating it open faced. Yes, you can get a huge number of unusual toppings either by your design or try one of Shorty's named for a famous musician. Me, I'm a pizza minimalist, so a white pizza with ricotta will do me right. And crisply baked, it often does. I don't like giving shortys a negative review since it's the only restaurant I can walk to, but we had a pretty bad experience there tonight. We ordered The Cure pizza and they delivered us a sausage and pepperoni. They realized the error as they brought the pizza out, and said they'd correct it at once. We hadn't even complained; we were so hungry we would've eaten any pizza.. A full 25 minutes later our new pizza came out.... and what was it? A much colder version of the same pizza that was delivered to us earlier, with the sausage picked off and some Italian meat thrown on. We've eaten at this location off and on since it opened. This was the worst experience we've had there to date, and we hate to admit it cause we've really liked this establishment. read more

My experience back in the fall (September 2020) was so puzzling that I had to update my review. I had to get my temperature checked at the door and I was told you cannot dine inside; however, the bar was packed full of people (elbow to elbow, and obviously not people from the same family) We had to sit outside and it had just rained. The side patio was wet, humid, and there were no fans blowing. The wood flooring was very wet and slick and I witnessed a server and a patron almost slip and fall. Shorty's needs to put some slip mats or something out there so someone doesn't fall and get hurt in their establishment. The food was alright, but my crust was burnt. I love all things about Shorty's but the wait. And although I don't like the wait, I appreciate the wait is because the food is put together with love, care and cooked to perfection! November 2017 I visited Naples, Italy and had dinner in a quaint pizza house. The chef created the pizza before our eyes, popped it into a brick oven, rotating it around a bit, topped it with more good stuff and served it from the oven to our table. It was magnificent!! That's what's going on at Shorty's except you don't have the oven view. Know that while you wait, the pizza of your dreams is being shaped and rotated in a brick oven stove for you to enjoy. I went here to get a take-out lunch one day because I was running errands before work and didn't have time to make anything. I needed somewhere fast, so this was a great choice. First of all, Shorty's is a tiny little restaurant/bar that has its own private lot. From what I saw, it does appear to have beer on tap. The lot looked freshly paved when I was there, and there isn't a lot of parking, so it kind of goes with its small size. It absolutely looks like a hole in the wall. Not much to look at from the outside, but when you go inside, the interior is all solid wood furniture, as well as the bar itself. I've been looking for a new nearby haunt when I left Memphis behind, and incidentally, my favorite restaurant and hangout spot. This looks like a promising new place, though I will always miss writing on the walls and the toothpicks in the ceiling. Service is good, even for take-out, which is very surprising. The waitress that took my take-out order checked on me a few times and offered me water while I waited. I don't usually tip for take-out, but I did tip her. She deserved it. The food itself was good. I had a turkey sandwich, I believe. Great smoked turkey, and wonderful sauce. Also liked the avocado. My only two critiques is that I wish they had broken down the avocado a little more so they weren't just giant pieces in the sandwich. It also needed just a little more salt and pepper. Come into this place with realistic expectations! This is not a fancy ambiance, it's family oriented with lots of kids and paper table covers. The service was fantastic and fast, especially on a Saturday night at 630pm! They had good beers on draft and prompt service. The portions are HUGE and the food came out lightening fast! We had heard a few high recommendations from friends, but we were still skeptical of this barn-shaped place across from an Autozone on an ugly stretch of Lawrenceville Hwy. However, it changed our minds from almost the moment we walked through the door. The menu was a very intriguing spectrum of twists on traditional items and the completely original. My vegetarian wife had so many options to choose from that she had trouble deciding. She was very happy with the vegetable sandwich, and said the eggplant was cooked to perfection, which is a very rare achievement. The Diana Ross and the Supremes pizza was spectacular, and even changed my mind about broccoli on pizza. Oh, and the music playlist was also a great mix of mellow indie artists that fit our mood perfectly. What a great place! We will be back--next time with the kids. read more

We only come here on Wednesday's for the pizza discount, and the pizza is delicious. However, Shortys loses a star for two reasons: 1) a sucky atmosphere. And they lose TWO MORE stars due to the fact we observed a food runner picking his nose for about a minute, and not just scratching, I mean really digging up in there, not washing his hands after, and then immediately delivering more food after this. I was appalled!!! Don't think I'll be back anytime soon, need to let my stomach settle after seeing that. read more

Pizza for grown ups with taste buds! Shorty's specializes in wood-fired thin crust pizza with unique toppings. While I've yet to find nirvana in their pies, they are pretty good if you stick to the basics. The salads, however, do come pretty close. I plan on making regular stops for their Greek and roasted beet salads. The also have main course options fresh from their wood oven, so I'll be sure to try that as well. Appetizers are also noteworthy- the guac is as good as the hype but the crisps tend to break very easily. The atmosphere is very comfortable and grown up. A BIG advantage over other spots in this area. Shorty's has a full bar and a patio. We've seen some great music here as well but it can be an awkward place for a show. You do not want to pay a cover to dine on those nights unless the music is what you are coming for. Shorty's is definitely on our "short list" of places to go in Tucker. read more

We've been going to the Tucker Shorty's since it opened! It's a local hangout. You never know who you'll see there, neighbors, clients, church friends, etc. It's a fun, casual place with great food. We usually get the Cobb Salad or one of the pizzas. Actually, we love everything. Parking can get limited on the weekends, but there's a store next door and their lot is good for overflow. The sign is a big round Pizza - and it's kind of orangy-brown. You have to pay attention on your first visit or you'll drive right by. read more

It was better than I remembered. The crust, the sauce, the cheese. The interior is basic but comfy. The service was great. The selection of local brews great. I cannot wait to check out the dog friendly patio in the beautiful ATL fall weather. Until then I will dream about the pizza (as good hot as it is cold). read more

To name one of the many, we ordered John Lee Hooker, Peter Tosh?, and Frankie Valli pizza. John Lee Hooker - BBQ pork, roasted onions and jalapeno, and COLESLAW! This was my favorite of the night. The thin crusted pizza with the flavors of a typical bbq place all in one bite. It was delicious. Peter Tosh - White Pie, jerked pork tenderloin, pineapple, red pepper, and cilantro. This was a very creative pizza. The flavor mix of this was something I've never tasted before and it was pretty darn good. I would easily get this again. The jerk (dry texture) flavor of the tenderloin was complimented nicely with the red peppers and pineapple providing the juice. Frankie Vallie - Artichoke, olives, mushroom, ham. It tasted healthy. that's all I got to say. It was good.. just nothing compared to the other 2 I tried. Drinks - Not your norm draft beers, bottled beers, and wine. Could be worse :)=) This place is probably the happy medium. It's a local place...supposedly...I've seen a lot of people travel from quite some far places around town to come here (i.e. East Cobb). The pizza oven is a real wood fired oven from Modena (Home of the Italian sports cars) and the dough is thin and cooked to perfection. (OK - Jeff [Varasano], get off my back. Your pizza is good. probably a step up, but you have attitude enough to call Fritty's pizza "Card board" and never even noticed Shorty's - you are not that much better and all three of you are certainly top tier in ATL). The beer selection (Not drinking much wine, I am sure they have some...) is solid, especially considering it's "suburban". The service has always been very consistent: friendly and prompt. The pricing is very affordable and it's a great place to bring a large party and or kids. If you are on the ATL-Pizza Quest - Don't leave out this place. It fantastic. Went there again, this time being my second time. The first time I went here I had a really bad experience to say the least. Due to that, my review was not great. However, the manager Shannon reached out to me and apologized for my unpleasant experience and offered me me a free dinner on the house. Four months later, I finally took the offer up and went to Shorty's for dinner this evening. All I can say is WOW! What a drastic difference in experience. The waitress (Sarah, I think was her name) we had was super sweet and very attentive. The entire staff was very sincere and apologetic for our prior experience and the food was hot and fresh! I really enjoy my Shorty's experiences. They do some really off the wall pizza's that are named after everything from entertainers, to people I've never heard of. You can sit at the bar and watch your pizza being made fresh, and being baked right in front of your eyes, or sit and have full waiter service. They usually have bands on certain nights, and the waitstaff is attentive although the place can get pretty crowded on a weekend night. They have a full bar, their margaritas are excellent, and so are their cocktails. Pretty fair beer selection, but nothing like Taco Macs. The cookies are a hit for dessert. The sign is not lit at all, so you can easily miss it. If coming from Stone Mountain going West bound on Lawrencevill hwy (rt 29 S) it's on the Left not too long after you past Cake Art. If you get to the Big Green Egg or QT you've gone too far and turn around. If coming from 285 or Decatur, go past the QT and Big Green Egg store and Shorty's is coming up on the right. Just can't believe how we were treated tonight at Shorty's. It's a Friday night and there aren't a ton of places to go in Tucker and this has always one of my favorites. No more though. When we walked in, I noticed that the bar was packed elbow to elbow with customers but the dining room was closed. Seems odd to me that they wouldn't space people out around the restaurant the way that the majority of restaurants are doing now due to COVID. I asked the hostess "why isn't it the dining room open when you have all of these people crammed together at the bar??" she responded, " Oh, we only allow this many people at the bar on Fridays".....I said " oh, I didn't realize COVID took a day off!". So I put my name on the waiting list for the patio and went back outside to talk with my husband. We waited for a little while and decided that we were going to place a to go order instead. We walked back in, my husband did not have his mask with him but I was wearing my mask. He was attacked by the staff! They all screamed at him to "put on a mask! You have to leave if you're not wearing a mask! I don't have a seat for you at the bar, so you have to go because you're not wearing a mask!!" The cook yelled " if you're not in a seat, you have to have a mask!!" Seriously?? What's the difference if you have a dozen people at your bar with no masks, elbow to elbow-NOT SOCIAL DISTANCING or a guy coming in to place a to go order and then waiting outside? Sorry, Shorty's. Cancelled. Went down the street to a much friendlier spot, where the bar is socially distanced and the staff wear masks but don't hypocritically scream at their patrons for standing without a mask. read more

For what it is (an OTP pizza joint), it is fantastic. I like to sit at the bar so I see the wood-fired grill and watch the guys make pies - very entertaining. LOVE the John Lee Hooker (a bbq pie w/ cole slaw) plus I like to add pineapple. The cobb salad is no joke either - it's enough for 2 or 3 people and it has all the good fixin's. The place has a quirky ambiance, one that you'd have to see for yourself. It looks like it used to be a barn. I always go for lunch, but they must have night time entertainment because there is a stage in the dining room. The people are cool, nothing either bad nor good to say about them. The flavors/ingredients don't work well together. On the other hand the Diana Ross and The Supremes was decent but I think if I go back I would order a custom pie because they seem to have all the right ingredients, the key is to find the ones that work for you! I'd recently heard about Shorty's from colleagues at work, but had never been. I've passed the Lawrenceville Hwy location for years, but never stopped. I went during lunch time on a Monday and there was a moderate crowd. Busy enough but not too busy. I had no trouble finding a high top to seat myself. Shortly after, the server came by to take my order. I told her it was my first time and asked if she had any suggestions. She shared the ones she liked and said she'd give me some time to look at the menu. I must say the pizza options are quite varied and have some interesting topping combinations. Many you'd never think to put on a pizza, but definitely looked appealing to perhaps try. The fact the names of the pizzas are of noted musicians is pretty cool. So after giving it some thought, I went with the Sid Vicious. The pizzas are cooked fresh in the wood fire oven you see when you enter. It wasn't too long after ordering, my pizza arrived. I ordered the "small" since I was by myself. I must say, I was not disappointed by its size or its taste. The "small" was six good sized slices. The Sid Vicious comes with nice chunks of black forest ham, generous slices of salami, sausage, pepperoni and ground beef. Being a meat lover, this was right up my alley. It was delicious! I tried my best to eat all of it, but after three slices I realized I was done. But I took the remaining slices with me. The service was good. The server I had was very attentive and came by regularly to check to see how things were going. The atmosphere was energetic. They play rock music and have a couple of big screen TVs at the bar. (There may be more TVs in the dining area, but I sat across from the bar, near the entrance.) I noticed they have a patio area as well. While there's not much of a view, it (the patio) looked like a nice spot to hang out on a Saturday and have beer and pizza. There was a steady influx of people coming for lunch while I was there. It was evident many were regulars or people who worked in the area. All in all, I had a great first time experience. I'd definitely go back to try other pizzas, but my Sid Vicious is my "go to" choice. Honestly, I had never stopped all the years prior because Shorty's looked kind of like a dive so I never gave it thought to stop there. Because I like thin crust pizza, I finally decided to stop and give it a try. They say you can't judge a book by its cover. This is a perfect example. Stopped by today because of the Yelp! rating and have to say, it's spot-on. The pizza is delightful, and that it is OTP is a big plus for us! Ever since we moved from midtown, the challenge has been finding good eats. Shorty's IS good eats! Only one criticism: Their street sign is practically invisible, and would be totally invisible to color-blind people. It's a shame, because this place shoul really be overrun with business. I think the pizza here is the best thus far in GA. I had the spaghetti squash salad. It was very good, and I was glad to see something different than on most menus. It was fresh, light, and I do not regret having for my "clean" diet. Although that was ruined when I had to try a slice of their pizza. Shorty's is tucked away in Tucker. Ordered a pizza over the phone here after reading some reviews. Was told it'd be ready in 15-20 minutes. Showed up to pick it up 20 minutes later and it turns out they never submitted the order. The girl that took my order was very apologetic and offered me a beer or two while I waited for them to cook it. They genuinely cared that they made an error and wanted to do whatever it took to make it right. Was definitely refreshing to see quality customer service like that, instead of just brushing it off. Yet another gem in the Tucker area that deserves some praise. They have an authentic wood fired oven here and I've had some very consistent, tasty pies here. It's a hippy themed spot with different pizzas named after musicians. The John Lee Hooker is one of my faves. They also have one of the best Cobb salads I've had in a long time. Small bar with some good beer selections and your usual liquor choices. Service is good with a nice local vibe going on. Place looks like an old barn and has some charm going on. This place never fails to deliver! The best pizza I ever ate was in Venice, Italy. Shorty's is a very close second to that! They use a wood fire pizza oven, which is the best way to do pizza IMO. The crust is thin, but not cardboard gross like the chains. The menu is super fun, with all their pizza being given special names related to music artists. Tonight, I branched out and got the guacamole dip with pita bread (the *best* guac ever, and the pita was nice and warm and delicious as well). Also had, what I can only describe as, the best damned chicken salad sandwich I've ever had - EVER! It was served on house made foccia bread that was its own magical heaven (brushed with angel tears and unicorn smiles). The chicken salad itself was divine, with dill and walnuts. The best part, it was served wrapped in provolone, so the chicken salad wasn't just smeared on bread, but tucked neatly, like a patty, onto the bread. Heaven! I am not even a big fan of chicken salad usually, but OMG!!! The service at this place is always stellar. I wish I could recall our server's name tonight, but I can't. Not only is the food amazing, but the local brew beer is always different and delicious! If you live near here, go try it soon! If you live away from here, load up the family and bring them in! My hubby and I ordered tea, beer, a Johnny Jump-Up, and two small pizzas (the "John Lee Hooker" unaltered & the "Elvis Costello"+ onions, sausage and jalapeños), thinking we would have a lot left over for tomorrow. It was too scrumptious, though, and we ate all but two small pieces. (If only they delivered- and into Lilburn at that. A gaggle of us gals met for dinner & "beverages". Weather was awful outside; however, the atmosphere was great inside. They were out of my Porter & our wait-dude (he was attentive) recommended the Wicked Weed's Zibalba that was a pumpkin/yam brew. After a sample I became a fan. Before the evening meal was served more at our table went with Zibalba. The food was per it's usual...great. I love my chicken salad melt & everyone else went with the famous pizzas.
