How do I begin, well I'd like to start by saying that these photos Do NOT do the food any justice as I forgot to take some at the time of them. I did find the one picture of them being served in the tray. Ok, so to start off the place is very welcoming. The staff were very friendly and Willy took the time to talk to me about his smoking process, 5 stars for customer service. I only had the half rack of ribs but they were PHENOMENAL. Hands down the best ribs I have ever had and I have had many. They were juicy, while Willy cut the ribs into their individuals bones, I could see the juices splashing and squirting and running down. The taste was right on with a bit of tangy from the sauce which he brushes on the ribs to moisten them, and a very well balance salt and pepper taste which does not cover the actual taste of the rib but enhances and complements them. Normally there are ribs that are burned or dry towards the end, thinner bones. However, in my experience, this was not the case here so there shouldn't be any need to worry about that. His sauces were tasty, there is a spicy and a normal bbq sauce which he makes himself. I had a bit of both but in all reality there's no need for any of it. The ribs are great on their own In conclusion, if you are in Nashville this is a must go to. I'm from Wilmington, Delaware which is about a 12hr drive, but would definitely make the drive again to try them again! read more

Yes go there, owner is there working, thanking everybody for coming in and serving up delicious barbecue. I had a chopped brisket sandwich. You could also get it sliced. Barbecue sauce, pickles, and pickled onion, I think it was, complemented the flavor nicely. Also had a sausage link to set me into a meat sweat. It was a full link partially sliced for easy eating. You know for sure you are getting a full link. Also they weigh your portions in front of you. Super trustworthy in my opinion. Ambiance is old school barbecue joint for sure if you're not into the white collar BBQ joints in town. I felt right at home with the friendly staff, and not out of place in my dirty construction worker clothes. We stumbled upon some of the best bbq in Nashville by accident! We used Yelp to find the closest restaurant and it was this one. We ordered two brisket bbq sandwiches to go and got back in the car to head home. Woah! Juicy, succulent, tender with a great crust! I grew up in Montreal, and have lived in Texas. I LOVE good bbq/smoked meat. There is nothing worse than dry, stringy, tasteless brisket - and nothing better than juicy, succulent, tender brisket. The key is fat - may my cardiologist forgive me. Lean meat with no fat = tasteless, dry meat! Many places use sauces of different kinds to put the juicy ness back in. Like classic French cooking, the sauces are there to hide the underlying taste. Blech! New French cooking, like great New Cooking in every cuisine, understands that sauces enhance the taste of great ingredients rather than cover it up. That brings us back to bbq. If the meat isn't cooked correctly to begin with, then no amount of sauce will fix it. Cook the bbq correctly using juicy, fatty meat cooked low and slow. Trim the fat off AFTERWARDS (if you must) but never before the cooking. This place, a little hole in the wall, delivered fatty, juicy bbq. The sides are classic and good.(coleslaw could use a little more juice.) The banana pudding was very tasty. Service was very friendly. It's a bit of a trek for us but we'll be back. It was okay. The chicken and ribs saved them. No combination platters are offered so we couldn't try different cuts of meat. We instead ordered a chicken plate, a rib plate and a side of brisket. The brisket was disappointing, too much fat. 1" fat to 1" brisket. The sides were baked beans and Cole slaw. We've had better. 4 employees were behind the counter and didn't come out behind it to check on their customers. Our make- shift combination platter cost is $55. We got water in a small cup with no ice. We'll not go there again. read more

Came here rightttt before they sold out of meat for the day and man am I glad I made it! Starting with the ribs.... they literally fell off the bone when I picked one up. The flavor was peppery and complimented the smokiness beautifully and whatever that glaze is *insert chef kiss* If my taste buds could write, they would send the Pitmaster, Pudge- yes, that's actually his name, it's on his name tag, a thank you card. Then came the first side, the Queso Mac. Just get it. I don't need to paint the picture of perfection. The first bite will do that for you. I also had the coleslaw and honestly I don't think the kitchen can do any wrong. The staff was wonderful and welcoming. The restaurant itself feels like a pit stop on a road-trip thru Texas and I half expected a tumbleweed to blow past or Willie Nelson to make a guest appearance. Will 100% be back soon to try the brisket- I've heard it's melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness and I need some of that in my life... and stomach. Barbecue in general is on the expensive side but when it's this good it's worth it. The brisket is out of this world and the sausage is fantastic. The sides are top-notch. This is a no-frills barbecue joint with the focus on high-quality excellent food. That's the way a barbecue restaurant should be. I would, however, tell them to buy more salt and pepper shakers and more hot sauce because so many tables have to share so few of these. read more

I don't know how this place got past us seeing that it has perfect reviews, but it was tip top AAA bbq. The wife of the owner Jamie came up right away and knew we weren't regulars. She met us like hosts in restaurants used to, very convivial. If you don't like friendly people maybe keep driving past Tennessee. Anyway, everything was tip top. Usually in any bbq restaurant some detail is off, not this place. It's actually the best food we've had since we've been in town. We've eaten at some well known fine dining establishments since we've been here, and this place still beat them. read more

Great barbecue in an authentic setting. Once you find parking and get inside you'll know you came to the right place. You are immediately aware of the wonderful aroma of great barbecue which is always a great sign. The menu is a classic with an array of meat options in various configurations and combinations. I went with brisket, coleslaw and beans and was not disappointed. Judging by the steady line of customers waiting to order while I was eating there are plenty of repeat customers, another great sign. Had the pleasure of hitting Willie's up again after about 4 months from my first experience. Talked it up to my buddies and was nervous that it wasn't gonna "meat" their standards. There was four of us and we split two platters (Brisket, ribs and cheddar/jalapeño sausages, w/ 2 or 3 sides). Once again it was amazing & all 3 buddies agreed. Really wanted to like this place as I'm a huge fan of Texas BBQ, but when I walked in I was greeted with a sign furthering the incredibly harmful, malicious, and false leftist narrative about "oppression" in the United States. I came here for food, not propaganda. On top of that the food (which I'd unfortunately ordered before I saw the sign) was bland and drastically overpriced, with dry brisket and cornbread and soggy green beans. This place isn't worth going to unless you like bad food and communist/anti-American narratives. Update: his reply says it all. Howdy partner! Brisket is the way here. Tender, juicy, smoke kissed beef that you can cut with a plastic fork. The negative review I read recently mentioned the brisket being dry, but I've not ever had that issue at Shotgun Willie's. The coleslaw is bright and acidic, perfect as a palate cleanser with a hint of fresh green apple. Pimento queso y mac is creamy and delicious. The star side in my opinion is the dill tater salad. Cold, creamy tater salad with fresh dill and a small amount of pickle is the perfect starchy side accompaniment to the rich meats. read more

I rolled up to Shotgun Willies, and everything about my experience was 5 stars. I forgot a mask, no worries, they provide them at their sanitation station right as you walk in. I ordered the Brisket Sandwich and Potato Salad, and wow was I in for a treat. I got absolutely LOADED up with brisket, the guys even weighed it in shop, and curious to know what the readout was I resisted eating in the car just to put it on my scale at home. My sandwich came out at over a half pound, and they even threw in a 2oz slice I demolished immediately. Some people may recoil at the thought of eating a half pound of brisket, because their relationship with brisket is typical of many East of Texas, who get brisket that's either too dry, untrimmed, or chocked full of unrendered fat. Shotgun Willie's is not that. From the moment I pulled back the bun to top my sandwich with onions and pickles, I noticed the familiar glisten of rendered fat, the dark crisp bark, and the intense red ring of smoke indicative of a job well done. The acid in the sauce helped to cut the fattiness of the brisket like a knife through butter. I'm from North Carolina, and thought the best barbecue came from home.
