I grew up coming to LBI every summer, Show Place was always a staple as it's not far from our house. Yes, they'll likely engage you to sing or play along - but it's part of the charm and experience. They aren't rude or aggressive about it, quite the opposite - they're very polite and professional. I had the pleasure of taking my 9mo along for their first experience and they were not only supportive, but several of the waitri came over to take pictures and hold after. The atmosphere is a bit loud, but we were seated up front so that's to be expected. The table and restaurant were very clean, and the prices were very reasonable given the area and time of year. The ice cream is also good, it's not going to change your life but for the price and experience it was (and has always been) solid. We are excited to come again, and continue the tradition. read more

Went there last nite - for their 1st show at 5:00 pm ... our table was filthy, floor was filthy-- there's no excuse for not being clean if you're a restaurant/ice cream parlor. The singing waiters were cute but they didn't make up for the lack of cleanliness. This was our 4th time there this season, don't think we'll be back again. read more

Showplace Ice cream Parlor lacks a show. I would not recommend Showplace. I feel the advertising is quite misleading. I was under the impression that you order ice cream and listen to singing for the hour of your reservation. However, it's really no show. The waiters only sing for 15 minutes. The first 15 minutes is ordering ice cream. The second 15 minutes is them pointing out random ice creams people order and having them stand up and participate in saying something funny and the last 15 minutes is them singing a few songs. After 45 minutes, they make you leave. I want more of a show. They should sing for the majority of the time and have people take orders at the same time . read more

Been coming here for 20+ years (Editor's note: it's more like 40 years) ...Now I hope to have the opportunity to bring my teenage grandchildren here....Ah yes, this iconic ice cream parlor has been open since 1950 (but in a different location) when they paired the Surflight Theater with the concept of an old time "golden years" ice cream parlor... The staff sing Broadway tunes often from the same shows that are playing next door at the Surflight, as they get you (the audience) involved with the short 30-45 min "show" that accompanies the legendary ice cream. The former monstrous 3-gallon "Billie Burke Fantasia" (with the caricature of W.C. Fields saying "Ah yes!", on the menu) has been replaced of late with the equally colossal "Anything Goes" that tips the scales "fantastick" with 12 scoops of ice cream, two scoop flavors of sorbet, and the sundry nuts, sprinkles, fruit, hot fudge, whipped cream, etc... you get the picture.... (Insert here video and sound of Gen Xers and Millenials desperately clicking away on smart devices to find out who Billie Burke and W.C. Fields are) I thought the experience was still a blast after all those years. Service and "shows" are hit and miss but such is the way of life and I admit I was a tad surprised at all the previous poor reviews. Oh well, sic semper cum showbiz! I always had fond memories of this place and next time will try to bring the grandkids along. An LBI staple. Fun place to watch aspiring actors and performers give their renditions of different show tunes while you are downing delicious ice cream. They even will include audience members in some of their skits. Typically I like to get the takeout. They are pretty speedy in serving up hefty scoops. I always get the cookie dough. Some other fan favorites are the banana ice cream with peanut butter and every topping just adds to the delicious experience. read more

Waited in the walk up line. Party in front of us was a large party, over 10. They were told a table is ready for them and that group decided not to take it. Our party of 4 was told to come in to be seated. Walking in and then told we can't sit because they are full and cut off was 15min prior. Didn't sit and there were multiple empty tables. I don't usually review things but this was a need for the Showplace. The parlor is unsanitary and the workers (not the actual performers) but some of the older workers in the back are rude and disrespectful. The ice cream is not that great and I'm really disappointed . I've heard many terrible employee stories, ones that would make me not want to work there or have my kids work there even as a last resort. This year the entertainment consisted of sticking a microphone in the guests, face and asking where they were from, etc. Took 30 minutes to get our ice cream order. Show Place Ice Cream Parlor is first, a show business (and you know theres no business like show business), and second, an ice cream parlor. The waiters sing and dance to showtunes, even putting on different costumes, all while serving up giant sundaes. It's all about The Music, Man! You might see a line (as long as A Chorus Line) curving around from the entrance and think "Bye Bye Birdie, I'm not waiting in that." There's no real way to know before getting there (except maybe calling ahead?) what time the show will be or how long it will be since it varies depending on the crowd they get that night. We arrived around 9 and were told the show would start in 45 min. So we passed the time by looking extensively at the menu and peeping at the ongoing show. The show, ordering, eating, and paying lasted under an hour (they close at 11). The menu is extensive, with lots of cleverly named showtune-themed sundaes and make your own options (Anything Goes!) and a kids menu. But be careful what you order, because you might get asked to get up and sing or dance based on your choice (possible things that might get you picked on include: sharing something, ordering "naked" ice cream (no toppings), or the same thing as a table mate). If that sounds too Crazy for You, steer clear or you'll be Les Miserables. After they have someone from basically every table do something they sing a few songs and a final number and then usher you out. Dress code is casual (no Hairspray or Kinky Boots required) but bring a sweater, we were Frozen! Its pretty corny and the caliber of talent isn't up to places like Ellen's Stardust Diner in NYC, and the caliber of ice cream is just ok, but its fun! If you love The Sound of Music (specifically showtunes) and ice cream, whether you're visiting from Chicago, Memphis, the South Pacific, 42nd Street, Oklahoma(!), or you're just Jersey Boys, you can't go wrong. Definitely fun for kids and families and worth checking out at least Once! read more

My first time here was this past summer and my husband's family had nothing, but great things to say about it. We had 10 in our group and we looked up the times online. We got there about 15 minutes early or so because it has always been first come first serve. At least this was what I was told. When we got there they asked us if we had any reservations. What? No one knew that. We had to stand in line hoping we could make the next show. We had 2 very little children with us. Since COVID they have been doing everything outside which was ok except it was really cold. We thought it would be warmer once we got inside the tent area and was finally seated. Yay! It was still freezing! I didn't even want to order ice cream because of how cold it was and we went the end of June. Everyone was so cold. I wish they had space heaters. From what I heard I was thought it would include everyone doing something, but only about half of our group got to stand up and sing or participate. It was cute and cheesy, but super short. You could tell that the servers who didn't always have an act did more with their tables. I am not sure if we will be back next year, but if you are in the area you should go at least once. Closed for several years after Hurricane Sandy, this place re-opened last year after changing ownership and it's better than I remembered! It's an ice cream parlor where the wait staff sing (broadway style). It's entertaining and they keep it interactive. They seat you in sessions. Once the "show" is over (about 45 min-1 hour) everyone leaves and the next session starts. In the past, the place was so crowded and loud, it was hard to see or hear anything. Also, in the past, we had to wait in line for several sessions before we got in. This time, we happen to get in line 10 minutes before they started a show and once we got in, the parlor was only half full. Maybe people didn't know it was open for the season yet (yelp said it was closed). Everyone participated and encouraged each other. We were able hear and see everything. Each table gets their 5 minutes of fame. Either they will pick one person from the table to sing or they will do something interactive that is related to your ice cream order. The ice cream is pricey and there is a $7 min per person. The way I view it, part of the cost is for the "show" , with the remainder for the ice cream. (Think of it as a $7 show ticket ) If you only come here for ice cream, then go to their take out window where the ice cream prices are normal. The ice cream is decent but it isn't the star of the show. There are several flavors and toppings to create from or you can order one of their creations. There are only 2 choices for the kid's menu and unfortunately, they weren't as appealing as the adult menu. My kids ended up ordering from the adult menu but not eating most of it. The 2 things I would change are: 1)The show could have been a little longer. When our "session" was over, we weren't all done with our ice cream yet. 2) They should offer the same creations for kids but in smaller portion sizes. I hope they vary the show. I'd like to go again this season but not if it's going to be the same songs and same jokes. read more

Absolutely one of the most fun experiences you can get on LBI. You do have to be willing to wait on line to get in if you don't get a reservation, because the shows are on every hour. The ice cream sundaes are big, delicious, and varied. The show will always involve at least one person from your table getting called on to sing or dance. The waiters also perform a few songs and dances for everyone as well! It's a great spot for families or people looking for an energetic good time with their ice cream. The ice cream itself is absolutely delicious. I'm glad this place is just as exciting and fun as when I was a kid! read more

If I could give this establishment negative stars I would! I was unable to make a reservation online so opted to try to do a walk in. I know there are limited spots for walk ins so I arrived at 5:15 tonight, with my parents who are 80 and 82, 3 kids and myself. When we walked up to the door we were the first people in line. A gentleman, who's name I didn't get, but can describe, as tall, brown hair and large, told us we were too early in a mocking fashion and insisted we leave and come back at 5:45... "I guarantee that is plenty of time and you will get a table" were his exact words. We came back at 5:35 to have 2 families ahead of us. At 6 pm, all reservations were seated and the two families in front of us were also seated. We were then told we had to wait another 15 minutes to see if anyone was a no show! My 80 year old mother had to sit on a cinderblock as they wouldn't offer her a chair. As you can predict, at 6:15 we were turned away. When I confronted the man who sent us away, he just shrugged with no remorse. As we were walking away someone who ordered from the takeout window said you are lucky you didn't waste your money, ice cream is subpar and icy. Save your money and go to Barry's where they respect their customers and do right by them! read more

This was such a pleasant surprise of a place! I went with my family expecting just to get some ice cream and a bit of nostalgia but ended up hearing such great voices and being so entertained. The ice cream sundae and mocha shake were delicious and creamy, just the perfect amount. The performances were so cute and the best part was they went from table to table to sing with each party that ordered certain broadway/musical themed sundaes. The best! All the staff are super sweet and very talented plus handle the crowd with ease. You should get there 20/30 minutes before showtime if you would like to get a table as there is limited seating. While you're in line, it's helpful for your group to decide what they want ahead of time. The team has to turn around for shows every hour on the hour starting at 6pm. The more you can have your group ready to go the better experience you will have. Most importantly, be kind to the staff and tip appropriately. These guys deserve it with how they work the room and get the place ready for the next showtime. One of our faves in LBI. read more

Terrible business model. Called ahead and was told it was first come first served. Arrived with party of 10 and was told that we had missed the cutoff by a few minutes and had to wait 40 minutes because of the show which hadn't even started yet. There was no one ahead of us and many empty tables inside. Really? They couldn't have slipped us in? God forbid we interrupted the delicate genius of the ice cream singers. Zero stars! This used to be my most favorite place as a kid. I had such happy memories of coming here and couldnt wait to bring my own kids. Unfortunately it is not the same. The staff was so disorganized and rude and we waited so long to figure out who was even taking names in the line, and then when we went to the door to find someone, we lost our place in line. The door waitress who finally appeared was not helpful and then a waitress names Sydney came over and was so rude and obnoxiois to us that even my 9 and 6 year old remarked how "mean" she was. The staff was so condascending and unapologetic about the line confusion, and then when we got cutoff for the next show after waiting almost 25 mins to even put our name in, they told us it would be another hour to wait. The door hostess did not remotely care how disappointed my kids were, she didnt even offer a sincere apology. So sad and disgusted that a childhood love of mine has such nasty employees.
