Decided to try this place after a day at Tropic Falls& the beach.. all based on a recommendation from my 10yr old son.. Parking was convenient; even with it being Spring Break.. we were seated relatively quickly.. our server, Brittany, was great!.. she explained the difference in the shrimps& provided a zero-judgement zone when I inquired about dessert before my meal was even placed.... Shrimp Basket sits on a busy corner of the strip (Gulf Shores Parkway and W Second Ave.). There's plenty of seating on the inside but I sat on the outside on a beautiful Gulf Shores night and watched the night life walk and drive by. So many delicious items to choose from, so I went with the name on the sign, Shrimp Basket. Lol A very tasty shrimp basket indeed. I had high hopes for this place, and unfortunately they were crushed. First, I want to be clear that our server was awesome. She was attentive, friendly, and did everything she could to take care of us. The food, however, was a huge disappointment. Our coconut shrimp appetizer came out cold not once, but twice. After that, nothing else arrived hot. My seafood boil and my husband's shrimp and grits both had potential, but serving them toom temp completely took away from the experience. Were they busy? Sure. But an hour-long ticket time followed by cold food across the board isn't acceptable, especially when the bill was $122 before tip. I really wanted to love this place, but the kitchen/runner execution missed the mark. The server was the bright spot of the entire experience. Save your time and money. read more

One of our family's favorite spots for some of the freshest popcorn shrimp around! We especially love coming for 'All You Can Eat' night. We visited this past Monday and were greeted by Jasmine, who told us the wait would be about 20 minutes. To our surprise, she had us seated in less than 10! Jasmine was a total rockstar, managing our table and several others simultaneously with ease--we even watched her handle a party of 16 without breaking a sweat. She made the experience amazing, keeping us 'cracking up' the whole time. We love the option of indoor or outdoor seating, but we prefer being outside right on Hwy 59. Before heading back to our condo, I called and placed a to-go order for my mom, after we had left. When I returned to pick it up, Jasmine greeted me again with genuine concern, asking, 'Is everything okay, baby?' Food at the Shrimp Basket is okay, even with the slow service. I sat at the counter and still couldn't put my order in for 25 minutes after sitting down. I ordered the Large Seafood Gumbo ($10), Snow Crab Cluster ($11) and the Stuffed Crab ($3.50). The gumbo was pretty good and came out quick, since they have it in a warmer at the front. The Snow Crab Cluster, which they have to just quickly boil, took a while to come out and was pretty small. The stuffed crab was good, a good little snack! Not a seafood lover, but was in town with people who were. Got the chicken tenders and they were SO GOOD. Usually when I get chicken at a seafood place it's pretty mid, but there were stand out good. Fries were great too. Service was friendly. Just be aware they don't have any good high chairs so if you have a little one, be warned there are no working straps, so that was kind of annoying. We stopped at shrimp basket winkle visiting Gulf Shores, they have a nice screened in outdoor patio. The smoked mahi dip was really good and they make their chips in house and they were still warm, which was such a nice touch. The shrimp tacos had plenty of flavor, however my shrimp tasted a little fishy, but the tacos overall were still great. Our servers was really friendly! We took our token for fried pickles flipped our way from the Mardi Gras parade to the Shrimp Basket. Added fried oysters, shrimp and sides on the covered porch. Dillon was quick and courteous. The name and the look of building it was in fooled me. (I'm from out of state). I thought it was a neat looking local specialty place from the looks. We got a couple of baskets. All the food was your basic Sysco-style frozen food fried up. Not the locally caught fresh shrimp implied by their signage. Food was nothing special. Expensive too, would have been better to go to a national fast food chain. The Shrimp Basket is a chain but all chains have their first place they started and this is it for Shrimp Basket! So this is Shrimp Basket #1 and it is actually the ONLY Shrimp Basket I've ever eaten at until VERY recently! They don't always have the best food at this joint for everything on the menu but for many of the items they do a really great job at a fair price especially in the seafood department. They offer some great specials on their food and booze here so that is typically a win-win for most folks. If you enjoy seafood then most of the items from the water will be pretty good while I tried the burger once and I won't do that again so I wouldn't suggest you try it either. The service here as typically been friendly with a few notable exceptions during crazy crowded times. The ambiance is beach style typical with a few surprises thrown in. Overall this is a solid joint for some affordable food and sometimes an amazing deal for their all you can eat specials. read more

Loved it!!!!! We arrived at 6:30-6:45 and were seated almost immediately. Our waitress Kirby did such an excellent job making sure everything was refilled, refreshed, and the food was amazing! I had the seafood boil bag, my wife had the Cajun seafood alfredo. Our waitress went above and beyond tonight after seeing our daughter drop her plate. She didn't hesitate and was there before I could even get the food picked up off the ground. She refreshed my daughter's plate with a new meal without any request and a bright smile on her face!!! Such a family friendly feeling atmosphere to the place as well!!! Absolutely delicious. If you are looking for good food and a casual atmosphere while visiting Gulf Shores, Shrimp Basket is a great option. I had the crab cake plate and have no complaints with it. Best fried shrimp I've had. The restaurant is very cool and laidback. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the vibe of the city. I ordered the mixed basket of fried goodies (don't remember the actual menu item name...see photo) but it contained fried jumbo shrimp, fried oysters, fried everything! We did not have a wait when we visited on a Friday night during the off season but I could see that it would be difficult during the summer. The only thing that could be improved is the portion size.
