Sadly, it's in the name, "trap." We went there against recommendations elsewhere to have--at best--lukewarm warm food (to be charged more than $100 for two adults and a 2-year-old). While there wasn't anything concerning about the food, it was definitely not worth the price. The big seller was the playset, so that our young one could stay engaged. Would be great, except it is full of some of the sharpest shells throughout. I'm definitely not a critic usually, but I thought it best to post this for anyone else venturing out. P.S. if they ask you if you want to sit outside, please know they will drop a small extra charge on your bill under "sea." read more

Only 3 other tables had customers. One group was done and waiting on their check. Took a longer than usual to get our drink order and a long time to get a domestic beer and house Chardonnay. When waitress returned she informed us they were out of the Chardonnay. I understand places run out of things sometimes. But this is a pretty popular drink and they weren't busy and it was only 3 o'clock in the afternoon so I find it hard to believe that she did not know that they were out of Chardonnay. Now let me tell you, walking in? Not exactly love at first sight. They had us seated by the window in what I can only describe as the Arctic section. I'm talking shivering, teeth chattering, questioning my life choices. Absolutely not. BUT, here comes the redemption, our waitress? An angel. I'm talking halo, wings, the whole production. We asked to move and she handled it quickly, smoothly, no attitude, just pure kindness. Love that for me. Now once we got settled, things turned around FAST. The food came out quick, hot, and ready, and baby, they had us in a trap. And yes...you know what I mean. Because at the Crab Trap? Oh, they caught me. That strawberry daiquiri? Delicious. Fruity, refreshing, doing exactly what it needed to do. And the fish sticks? Buttery, smooth, and honestly better than they had any right to be. I was pleasantly surprised. Our visit to The Crab Trap was unfortunately not what we had hoped for. Our waitress made a few mistakes with our order, which was a little frustrating for a table of four. The service felt less welcoming than expected, and the food was fairly bland and under-seasoned, especially for the price. That said, the restaurant was clean and well-maintained, which we appreciated. Out of the four people in our group, only one truly enjoyed their meal. Really shocked at some of the low reviews. Tried this place while driving from the gulf coast to pensacola and Im glad I stopped. Sat outside on a perfect day. They gave me a cup of water with mold in it, and when I spoke to the manager, he insisted it wasn't mold but could not tell me what else it could be. His excuse was that "we clean the cups too often for it to be mold." I have experience looking at various species of mold with my own eyes and under a microscope and can guarantee that yes, it was definitely mold. I am a medical student and have seen mold many times. I know exactly what it looks like. When I scraped it from the inside of the cup with a straw, it appeared black, with spores, and had a viscous clear film surrounding it. All of that aside, it was in a ring around the cup exactly where another cup would be stacked inside so it was 100% mold from stacking wet cups. I don't understand why he couldn't have just admitted it was mold. Everybody knew it was mold. It was obvious. He did not offer any discount or solution. He just flatly stated "So what can I do for you?" Our waitress was kind enough to add a 15% off military discount before she even notified the manager. We just wanted it to be looked at by somebody so it wouldn't happen to any other customers. It was obvious that the manager just didn't want to admit it was mold. Whether that be because he didn't want to comp the meal, or was scared of health department repercussions. He was upset and defensive. You would think in an instance like this it would be standard protocol to comp the meal. Also, the rice in our gumbo was hard and uncooked (almost chipped a tooth), but they did bring us a new bowl (this was before we noticed the mold in the cup). We were also charged for an appetizer we ordered that was never brought to the table and had to make sure that was deducted from the bill. A pleasant dining experience. It's very casual, but still a nice place to visit. The portions were more than sufficient. We had the crab cakes for an appetizer. Not shabby, they were authentic and good. I ordered the crab and shrimp, the shrimp shell was soft and a little difficult to shuck. The crab was good, but on the salty side. Fortunately my wife was born to eat crab and we had no leftovers or wasted food. The drinks were reasonably priced and well portioned. Parking was very easy and there is a playground in the back if you have little ones. Our waiter started off strong, but towards the end tapered off. I think he may have been getting swamped. The key lime pie was a massive disappointment, it is lime flavored cheesecake. Overall a positive experience. read more

Let's start with the negative- get more of a bar selection people! They literally have 10 bottles back there! OKAY, now let's go to the food- the Bairdi crabs a a bit pricey at $75 but well worth it. I am a crab lover, hot, cold doesn't matter. I have spent hours cracking and eating crab. I appreciate a few things when I am enjoying my crab. As tasteless and hokey as it is, I truly appreciate a bib to tie around my neck. I don't want to wear the crab, I want to eat it. 1. Deduction for not having bibs or a something that can stay tied around my neck, protecting my clothes. 2. Deduction for not having all the tools needed. Proper tools for eating crab is almost a requirement. The Crab Trap has scissors and a plastic pick, that breaks apart part of the crab leg. No tiny metal pick or small fork given. A big fork doesn't really do anything in helping shell the crab, 3. Deduction for not removing my crab shells in the small paper bucket, especially after I asked for a new shell bucket. Our waitress walked by 3 more times saying she forgot a new paper bucket and still never took the empty shells off the table. She never took the empty shell bucket away, she left it until I was done with the rest of my crab. To me that is tacky and rude. It's the same as leaving empty glasses when they refill your drink with a new glass. Take the empty away and take the full basket of crab shells away. 4. Deduction and this is the big one. No real butter. I really don't want flavored oil. If someone is paying $40+ a plate, and they ask for butter, please TELL THEM YOU DON'T SERVE REAL BUTTER, only flavored oil. Or BETTER YET, melt some real butter and give it to them. 5. Deduction for serving me corn on the cob with a rotten top and all the silk still strewn all over it. At least take the time to cut the gross grey black tip off the top before serving and no one is the wiser. Or server was very kind, possibly a bit shy. She offered drinks and refills, even offered to go cups for our sodas. Dessert was also offered. Everyone was very nice, all the wait staff that walked by, great little place on the Gulf side. Old timey photos of fisherman adorned the walls. They have a raw oyster bar and everything was clean. Expectations are probably a little higher when you go to a place called the Crab Trap and order fresh crab. A few tweaks and this place could get a lot higher rating. read more

Jumbo Fried Shrimp was just OK. Hush puppies were not house made. Slaw was not very good. Fries were not very crispy. Shrimp was a little overcooked. There are other restaurants that have better shrimp at the same price. Will not go back. read more

This is one of my go to restaurants in Florida. Any location is the same quality and service. Today I went to their Orange Beach location. I had the smoke tuna dip and gumbo which is always awesome . C- Dish Execution: the "crab" lacked any lump meat or recognizable texture, which is a major letdown for a premium pasta dish. Our pasta dishes felt more like gravy. Also disappointed that they came out 5 seconds after our salad which made us feel rushed Atmosphere: sitting among stacked chairs on all the other tables made the service feel rushed and the environment uninviting. we ordered a 32 entree and the waitress Emily said we can substitute the fish in the entree. Without telling us she charged us for a completely different entree at 47.99 plus a sauce from the original entree choice for another 8 dollars. Totally blindsided and they refused to make this right. The Shrimp skewers tasted like burnt ashes. The rice was terrible and dry. The overall experience was not great. We visited this restaurant today and it was one of our worst experiences. We started by being seated with an office view rather than a beach view and once we were seated it was several minutes before we were acknowledged. Don't even get me started about the office view, only two people in the restaurant at the time so obviously there was no room to put us at a window. I ordered tea and had to change to Diet Coke because the tea tasted old. Chose the lunch shrimp and imagine my surprised when it looked like fritters, taste was horrible. When we left the restaurant I called and asked to speak with the manager rather than confront her in the restaurant. I first told her about the office view and was quickly told I could have asked to have a window view, sorry now this is my mistake? Told her about the food and she informed me the shrimp came from their fisheries and there had been no complaints about their food. Please read their reviews on Yelp. I was also told that if I had told her before I left the restaurant she could have done something about it. Oh please can we keep excusing everything away as being the customers problem. Never got an apology. We had a horrible experience February 14, 2024 and had vowed to never visit them again, but in our stupidity we decided to give them another chance. I repent for that mistake, my advise is to blow past this restaurant and patronize the one down the road. Quick lunch service right on the beach! It is on the main strip, just a little further down from everything else, so there was no wait and we got in and out so fast! I got the Bushwacker to start, which is my favorite and of course it was delicious. We also started with the crab dip as an appetizer. Again, came out super fast and was super good! The pair the dip with soft pita bread... I could have eaten the whole thing by myself. As a main course, I got the burger and fried. Typical burger with typical fries so it checked off my list! The place was very clean and had a bar section where there were tvs so you could watch games. In the back, there was a playground and a trail that led straight to the beach. The food was good, but unfortunately the service did not meet expectations. Our server never refilled our drinks throughout the entire meal, and she also forgot to bring a salad we had ordered. When we pointed it out, she didn't apologize--instead, she just walked away to remove it from the bill. At the end of the meal, when we were paying, she just stood there without saying much. As much as we love The Crab Trap in Destin the one here in Perdido Key was a complete letdown. The Destin crab trap is always a favorite must stop spot. The food here in Perdido Key wasn't even fresh. I got the snapper and my wife ordered the grouper. Was so easy to tell they were both frozen and had no flavor and overcooked. Fries were cold and could tell had been sitting for a while. As for my snapper I actually had to use a knife to cut it due to being rubbery. My wife's order was completely wrong except for the grouper. The back outside area was a complete disaster. Old steamers and alcohol machines sitting out back in a worn down bar was actually sad. If in Destin will visit the crap trap. Here I just couldn't do it again. After a week vacationing here this was by far the worst dinner.
