Let's start with the good: The restaurant is exceptionally clean. It's small, but it gives that quaint, community-eatery feel that's really welcoming. The shrimp and fish were solid, and the gravy on my smothered turkey chop deserves every accolade. It's rare to find true homemade gravy in Richmond, so kudos for that. The yams were top-tier, and the cornbread, while flavorful tasted a bit dry rather than fresh. Now, the food overall was a mixed bag. The chicken lacked seasoning, and the turkey chop, although thick, was unfortunately dry to the point where I couldn't tell if I was eating turkey or chicken. My aunt ordered the grilled salmon cakes, which were a big miss, though she enjoyed her fried cabbage and fried potatoes. Now for the not-so-good: I attempted to call in my order and was placed on hold for so long that I arrived at the restaurant before anyone came back to the line. When I walked in, it wasn't busy at all, no ringing phone, no visible orders, and no customers picking up, which left me confused about why I had been left on hold. Customer service also fell flat. I still tipped 10% because I always do on takeout, but honestly, I regret it. The young lady seemed far more focused on her phone than on making new customers feel welcomed, and that's the kind of thing that determines whether people return. All that said: I'm a firm believer in giving restaurants two chances. If my second visit is better, I'll definitely update my review . For now, it's 3 stars for me.

This is my first visit to Shrimps. I came in to place a to-go order. The restaurant itself was cute and clean inside. I was greeted at the door, so the staff was friendly as well, which I really appreciate. I placed my order and waited about 20 minutes for the food to come out. It was piping hot and freshly cooked, which is always amazing! I headed home to try out the goods. The mac & cheese was amazing! I highly recommend order ordering that as a side. They ran out of yams so I did not get to try that however, I tried the cabbage instead. Honestly, I was not a fan. It was too peppery and it tastes like the oil used had gone bad/rancid. I didn't finish it. The crabcakes were seasoned well, but I felt like they were a little overcooked. The cornbread was delicious. It was light, fluffy and moist. It was probably just an off day. I will try them again because overall, I was satisfied, even though there were a few misses for me.

Shrimps is one of my favorite places in Richmond! It's a cute restaurant nestled in the heart of Northside on Brookland Park. The service is always impeccable. The owners are very personable and they ensure that everything is cooked to perfection. My go to meal is the seafood platter with fish, crab balls and shrimp. I love the little burst of crab you get when biting into the crab balls. They aren't filled with bread crumb fillers. They also have very flavorful sides. The cabbage, greens, sweet potatoes and fried potatoes are well seasoned. The restaurant is pork free, so you don't have to worry about them seasoning your vegetables with ham hocks.

The food is really good! I originally asked for the collard greens but they didn't have any so they replaced with cabbage . The cabbage was overcooked and cold but everything else was DELICIOUS !! I also had chicken alfredo and from my friends reactions , that was really good as well lol . I did have to wait about 40 min to get the food but i think it was just a short staff day or a pretty busy one. Recommend trying !

If you looking for alil southern style food shrimps is it. The ambiance is nice casual good for a date night, small group, or if you want to go solo. There will be alil bit of a wait cause the food is made fresh to order. Started with a rum punch is what they called it but it only consist of rum and lemonade want too bad but wasn't my typical rum punch. Followed by a Long Island iced tea it was ok but wasn't a typical Long Island. The wingettes were the start of the show for me fresh southern fried chicken seasoned to perfection definitely didn't disappoint down to the bone. Then I had the Cajun salmon Alfredo, was seasoned ok but a bit on the salty side if you ask me the pasta was made aldente and the Alfredo sauce was nice and creamy but just alil bit too much salt for me. I'd definitely come back for happy hour which is 4 to 7 pm weekdays. And I'll definitely like to try the rest of the menu.

Everything was deeeevine!!! The atmosphere, service and especially the food! Our girls night out was so much fun at Shrimps! Bre took great care of us. We had fish, chicken, crab balls, Mac & cheese, fried cabbage and fried potatoes. Everything was delicious! The chef did not miss not one time. Definitely gotta take the hubby soon.

We stopped in around 4:30pm on Friday evening before a date at an establishment down the street. We never eat dinner that early but the timing wouldn't have worked out for us after our event. There was one semi large party dining in when we arrived and the establishment is smaller but there was space for us away from that party. All of our food was delicious! I probably could've ate it all in one sitting if I wanted to be gluttonous. The fried chicken Wingettes were seasoned and fried perfectly. As were the house potatoes. Normally I try to get vegetables when I go out to eat but what's a cheat meal without mac and cheese. Since we were there during happy hour all of the cocktails were half off (top shelf liquor not included). Both of my jolly ranchers were great. The only reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is because my boyfriend's liquid marijuana was too sweet and his Long Island was slightly off. They also were out of Jack Daniels which is what I wanted at first. I could see one of the staff making the drinks diligently and tasting so I appreciated the detail but I don't think they have a bartender. I could also tell how popular they were based off the number of people ordering take out and grubhub orders. The staff were very nice and accommodating. I always love patronizing black owned businesses and this one was no exception. I felt welcome from the time we arrived until we were thanked when we left. Will definitely visit again when I'm on that side of town.

We were first greeted by the most personable, young man that truly made us feel welcome. That's there motto "Welcome Home" His name is EJ. You will know it's him. This restaurant is a cute neighborhood landmark. It's a little small but not tight or uncomfortable with a full bar for additional seating. Because it has that old school I know this food is going to be FIRE, it's Perfect. Soooooo, the music certainly fits this cool old school vibe. The menu was under a very clean glass table topper to view and order. Very big Plus, Sanitary !!!!! I ordered the Fried Chicken (2pcs white), corn muffin comes with the meal, candied yams and cabbage. My plate was BEAUTIFUL, pictures will confirm. The chicken was golden brown, crispy on outside, flavorful and moist on the inside. YES, like my mom's use to be. The yams were perfectly sweet and the caaaabage was delicious. Go early to avoid the crowds, because everyone wants this good food and hospitality. Ooooh Lord, I forgot our extremely attentive server Dana. He checked in while being super busy with other customers, making sure the glasses were refilled in a timely manner. He also offered to go drinks, and very nice to go containers. This review is long because it's accurate and I need to share my experience. Last but not least, the owner came by and asked how was everything with her warm, down home hospitality. She also ask that we visit next door, Mama J's Market, so we did. It was sooo cool. I felt like I was in Greenwich Village NYC. If the restaurant is too busy for you, there in the market you can order from the kiosk and a staff member will bring it to you. There are refrigerated food and meal options to grab and go. Snacks, drinks, a little fresh produce, household and personal items. The Perfect Neighborhood Market. If you want the Old Historic Jackson Ward feeling of community, come to Mama J's Kitchen and Market. Thank you !!!!!!!

The lady at the front door was a bit staticky but she got us sat fairly quickly so we could deal with that. Vibes are all wooden, but not creaky. Could be a cool date spot, it was very casual so we were able to be a bit boisterous. Good place to chat and blend in. Service was great and friendly and attentive. The waitress we had always made sure our cups were full and we had napkins and what we needed. We didn't get any alcohol, I got an Arnold Palmer, the wife got a midtown. They were both pretty good, I don't know what the difference was but they slapped. Free refills on sweet tea was dope too! The food came out pretty fast for the portions and quality. The wings are a must get, get the large and if you don't finish air fry them back home (reheat is good) (I would get sauce on the side, we did buffalo). We got like a desert style cornbread with syrup and powdered sugar, not normally my jams but totally delicious (my coworker ordered, I am not into sweets; still 10/10). I had 2 buffalo shrimp and they were also good, I didn't get a flick but that's a safe pick. The mains are pricey (typical soul food prices) but fire!!! Portions were good but the quality of goods and meat are awesome. I eat at a lot of places, the quality was really high here so I think the price tag was fair. My wife got the catfish, I got the stuffed salmon. For our sides we got the greens, cabbage, and the Mac & cheese. I had a couple of things I personally like that I feel would have enhanced the meal but the overall outlook is that this is the place to go. The greens were salty as heck and didn't have like a turkey neck or smoked anything in it, could be a regional preference but that was missing for me. The cabbage was also cooked really well and didn't require much but had no sparkle. Great texture but the flavor wasn't there, I'm also Caribbean so maybe what I like is different, the crunch with a kick would have gone far and maybe some salt from the greens in there. The Mac and cheese was good, I like a creamier one but this will suffice tbh. Overall I'm going to give them a 8.9/10. I could have gotten the wrong things or went on an off day but they certainly delivered and the service was GREAT. I would deff revisit, it's got a lot of charm and personality. The staff were amicable and the bathrooms were clean. I would recommend this spot if you're visiting Richmond!

Our server, LENA was very helpful and friendly. She made sure we knew what was what. She was Awesome. Okay now this FOOD! So much food and everything hot and fresh. You'll be tempted to order an appetizer. I observed the portions and decided I couldn't eat all that... in a week. Definitely getting the fried oysters next time though. The "Fish Boat" comes with 2, 3 or 4 pieces of whiting. It's fried and the onion and pepper "sauce" is a mustardy, vinegar concoction that compliments the fish perfectly. You have your choice of two sides. Typical southern specialties. Collard greens (no pork added) were delicious, with a little kick; Candied Yams and a BRICK OF CORNBREAD. Light, soft sweet cornbread... my goodness. I don't think I can do this food the proper justice it deserves in this review. The chicken strips; the Alfredo were just as good. Even their version of an Arnold Palmer, (The Uptown) was done right. It's worth the drive and definitely worth the calories. The menu has so many tempting options that it was hard to choose, but we both landed on the Hot Chicken Sandwich with cayenne butter--and we're glad we did. It had the perfect amount of heat: enough to bring some spice without overpowering the flavor. On the side, I ordered the green beans after our bartender/server highly recommended them. Normally, green beans wouldn't be my first choice, but they were seasoned perfectly and ended up being one of the biggest surprises of the meal. My partner chose the mac and cheese, which was the superior side (although both were excellent). The service was friendly, attentive, and genuine throughout the evening. Despite arriving on a Friday night without a reservation, we had no trouble getting a table. They only accept reservations for parties of 5-8, so I'm glad we decided to take our chances. One of my favorite parts of the evening was chatting with another guest at the bar. He and his wife shared several entrées with their young son, and they couldn't stop raving about the short ribs--which their son happily claimed for himself by the end of the meal! They also highly recommended the salmon, so we've already got ideas for our next visit. The only real downside has nothing to do with the restaurant itself: parking in Scott's Addition can be a challenge. I'd recommend allowing yourself some extra time to find a spot or, even better, taking a rideshare so you can start enjoying your evening right away. Lunch. Supper! has earned its reputation as a longtime Richmond favorite. Great food, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere make this an easy five-star recommendation. We'll definitely be back.

They have been in business for 4 months and are continuing to build up a customer base. Very nice people! The interior is very casual, with blue walls and plenty dining tables w/ chairs. There is a large TV on one of the walls that wasn't playing anything during our visit; but they did play some RnB from a big speaker that was nestled into the counter area. The food is prepared fresh once ordered. I had the Salmon bites that are served atop toasted bread (good flavor, but the salmon soaked up to much oil from being fried), a side of cabbage (Very Good!), and a side of sweet potato mash (the flavor was good). The owner was glad that we dined in and asked if we would like dessert; we were too full and declined. The owner then gave my husband a to go cup of blue raspberry Kool-aid on the house!
