We had a really good experience at Shuckin' Shack overall. Our server was friendly, attentive, and did a great job taking care of our table. The drinks were good, and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh, and it's easy to see why this place is so popular. The only negatives were fairly minor. Due to the current cyclospora outbreak, they weren't serving coleslaw, which is completely understandable. However, every entrée in our party would normally have come with slaw, and we weren't offered a substitute or any sort of discount for the missing side. One person in our group also ordered a side of sausage and potatoes that never made it to the table. I also understand that fresh seafood prices can fluctuate, so market pricing makes sense. That said, for such a casual restaurant, I was surprised by how many items were marked as market price. It would be nice if there were a board or printed list showing the current prices so guests know what to expect before ordering. We stopped in after a week at the beach and needed to kill some time before flying home to the land of "are these oysters fresh?". We sought some good seafood, cool ac, and local ambience. This place checked all those boxes. We went on a Friday, great day for the fresh oyster special. Kids had wings, they were SO good (Dad tax). The vibe is SO cool, dive bar meets oyster bar. I was there for the band 7-3-26. We sat outside. There looked to be one waitress outside. We ordered fish and chips and seafood trio which we never got. We sat waiting for an hour. Our waitress came by and told us our food was coming up. That made us think 10 or 15 mins more. Nope waited another 20 mins. Waiters. Had disappeared inside for that amount of time. When she came back out we called her to the table only to be told that two large tables were inside. That they had ordered before us and there was nothing she could do about that. She disappeared inside again never bothered to refill our drinks which were empty. Then not one but two tables that arrived after us got their food. We waited another ten mins with no sign of the waitress. So we just got up and left. This is the third time I've been here with bad service. The bartender is very rude and does not like to wait on anyone except the regulars. Then got mad when I asked where our food was. Worst service in Leland. We ended up going across the way to the pizza place and saw another group that had been there and never received service. How this place stays open is wonder to me. read more

After a long day on the road we stopped into the hotels tiki bar for a drink before dinner. The bartender recommended this place for dinner. It was within walking distance so perfect. Don't be thrown off by the fact that it looks like just a bar with way too many chairs. When you're inside it's a cool, comfy vibe with ocean breeze blowing through. Service was outstanding. In fact we had two servers taking care of and checking on us. Bucket of butter and hand wipes on the table. Local artwork on the walls. A chalk board that tells you where each type of seafood was sourced for that day. This is no dive bar. But is it?? Excellent drink choices and apps to get you started. The crab cake sandwich was fried well, the bun was nice and soft, and the overall flavor of the crab cake was really good. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. They were your standard hushpuppy but very tasty. The fries were nice and hot, crispy and well seasoned. I also had an appetizer of fried calamari. The calamari was very crunchy and tasteful. Tried out Shuckin' shack the other day and was very pleased with the food and vibe of the place! It is a great spot to hang out and watch some football on Sunday and eat some great food. I started out with the hangover fries which were delicious, I appreciated that they used what tasted like a homemade cheese sauce and the egg on top tied the hangover theme together. I also had an oyster po-boy. There were a TON of oysters shoved on this sandwich and I was not upset about it at all. The oysters tasted fresh and were delicious. The young woman's name was Gabriela of some sort, she was absolutely one of the worst serves I've EVER had in my experiences eating out at restaurants. When I tell you this young lady had the worst attitude for no apparent reason. She dropped my plate in a rude manner and said "here you go". She also had a strange look on her face as if she did not want to be serving me. We ate indoors and then figured we would go outside to hear the music after dinner. The place was busy and very noisy. It took a really long time to get our food - unfortunately, when we were finally done so was the music. This would have been OK except for the fact that the food was not great. I had the crab cakes which were all bread - I could barely taste the crab. My friend had the salad with chicken which was mostly greens and 4 little pieces of chicken. My hubby had shrimp and grits - the bowl looked really full but the food was sitting on top of some bread. The actual portion was adequate but not that good. My other friend had the fried flounder special which she enjoyed. Our server was fine and none of this was her fault.
