Was surprised to have pleasant live music on Friday night that wasn't too loud for conversations and also enjoyable. The food overall was solid. The clam chowder was the favorite thing we ordered, though a little over-seasoned and heavy on the salt. The fish and chips basket had great hush puppies but only the batter of the cod was flavored, not the cod itself. The low country boil was solid but not impressive. When I walked in, it wasn't crowded like everyone else in the area due to the Ironman event, so I quickly got a seat at the bar. I ordered a half dozen oysters and a tea. It took forever to get the drink and finally got the raw oysters. They were good, so I decided to order another half since they don't have grilled fish. It took forever, and I asked for the check with my 2nd order, because I knew it Was going to take a while. I was there over an Hour and a half without a refill or service. I'll start this by saying I NEVER leave reviews, but I feel like this is necessary for public safety. This happened on 3/21/26: Me and a friend ordered 1lb of crab legs. ($40) They served us spoiled crab (smelled like ammonia) that was immediately swarmed by flies. Indoors. The woman who sat us pushed alcohol on us hardcore. Makes sense now. We literally said "Nah, we have to drive" and she openly pushed harder and encouraged drinking and driving. Terrible sales tactic. Terrible ethics. The only positive is the waitress who immediately gave us a refund, no questions asked. It's concerning that she wasn't surprised, but still. You'd think a beachside restaurant would serve fresh seafood. Edible, at least. This is a restaurant impossible candidate, no question. Insane. read more

I would definitely return anytime I vacation here. My friend got a buffalo shrimp wrap which was huge and she said it was amazing. I, on the other hand, decided to create my own meal. I got half dozen chargrilled garlic parm (I believe was the name) oysters, steamed shrimp, and a side of smoked sausage and potatoes. Pros: Nice environment for the time we went Shrimp cooked perfectly. Not overcooked at all Oysters were so good. Loved the scallions on top which gave it another level of flavor Smoked sausage was plentiful considering it was a side and made an abundance of flavor burst on my tongue. Updating my 2019 review. I do love this location and have consumed a lot of food and adult beverages here. When they are on, this place is 5 stars. Unfortunately, I have seen more than my share of inconsistency when it comes to the drinks and food. The Saltmarsh margaritas are damn good. So is the Shark Attack Bloody Mary. However, on more than one occasion, I have gotten very shitty drinks here. I think it has to do with the bartender you get. My last Bloody Mary was like drinking motor oil. I was like the mix was jacked up (too thick). Similar situation with some of the food items. The Ahi Tuna appetizer is damn good, however I have also gotten this dish (more than one occasion) where it was tough and stringy. I will still come here. Like I said, when they are on, they are on. Lots of TVs to watch the games. Great draft beer selection, with several local selections. Nice outdoor seating in the front and back. Food menu that will appeal to about everyone, except perhaps some vegans. Very nice oyster selections. read more

Like I said, we ended up going back the next night. We had another great experience, especially our server who was great. Unfortunately I forgot her name but she took care of us on the patio Saturday night. We got 6 raw oysters, which were just as great as the previous night and at $2 each a great value. We also got 6 grilled oysters for $2.50 each: 2 each of cheddar jalapeño, garlic Parmesan, and the seasonal which was elote. They accidentally brought out 6 elote which they let us eat and brought out the other 4 shortly after. I usually prefer raw over grilled and in this case this held true. Wasn't too crazy about the grilled. The toppings were meh. We enjoyed a nice bottle of starborough Sauvignon blanc for $28. We also ordered the Greggah which was a classic lobster roll that was fantastic. Overall: a great place for good seafood at a great price. Especially the raw oysters and daily specials stand out. There's finer seafood dining around but it will cost double. If good food at a good price is what you're after, then this place is it. I really love the atmosphere in here. The main dining area and bar is totally beach themed and laid back with cool lighting. They have an amazing back deck that looks out over Downtown and you can people watch from the front outside area. The place is not as clean as I would have liked it to be. And although my server was very nice, she failed to remove plates and glasses from my table the whole time I was there. I had the Shark attack which is their Bloody Mary. Honestly, wasn't a big fan. The ahi tuna appetizer was good, not great. CB salts oysters were delicious and only $2.00. They have a pepper relish and horseradish that it comes with. The shrimp scampi flatbread was decent. Awesome sports bar in the heart of downtown. We came in on a Saturday afternoon and we were sat immediately. We started with a sangria and a beer. The sangria was very well made and the local brews I tried were pretty good. I had a half dozen oysters and the lobster roll (The Greggah). The oysters were definitely fresh and delicious. The lobster roll, although very small, was to die for. I'd say it was served on a hot dog bun (around 4"), but had plenty of lobster in it. My wife had the wings and the quesadilla. Both were amazing. Out of all the sports bars I've tried in downtown, this one definitely wins due to the excellent food. Service was super awesome even though they were slammed. It's pretty rare that I come across places that give me a foodie experience I'll never forget about, but Shuckin' Shack is one of those places. My friend and I ordered 36 oysters (yes, you read that right), lobster roll, and a shrimp po boy burger. All the food was delicious. My only complaint was that my corn side was frozen before they steamed it, so it wasn't very sweet. My lobster roll was on a buttery and toasted roll. It was so delicious. The lobster was also seasoned perfectly. I loved my friend's shrimp burger. They mash all the shrimp into a pattie, and I wasn't expecting that at all. However, the burger was incredibly delicious. The oysters were also so good that we initially only ordered 6, but we came back later that day and ordered 30 more. Our waitress was so kind that she brought my friend's dog a bowl of water. It was such a wonderful experience to sit outside on the patio and eat food while watching people pass by. I am really going to miss this specific location, but I'm glad that I always have something to look forward to whenever I visit North Carolina. read more

I was surprised at the new feeling throughout the place from the hostess to the rear outdoor seating, it seems like everything has been stepped up a bit in the past month or so. I live just a couple blocks away so frequent shuckin' shack for their local oysters (today had CB's, mamas, sounds and bays) but with all of the new places it's been a couple months. The menu has changed and I think most obvious of all the staff has changed. The hostess was warmly welcoming and I cannot say enough about our waitress and even another waitress stopped by to see how we were doing. I have been to the front Street downtown Wilmington location no less than a dozen times in the past year and I've always been happy but this was by far my best visit. Had a nice dinner at Shuckin'Shack. It was there lobster Valentine's special. The place is very cool with a full service bar. The service was excellent. The server was always around asking if we needed anything. For the food, the special came with a Maine lobster, corn, and coleslaw. The coleslaw was very good, however, the corn was very soft and mushy, and not that great. Still eatable. The lobster was exceptional, it was very good. I came here with my friend for a crab leg promotion that we read about online, only to find out they were doing an even BETTER promotion. All you can eat crab legs for $35. When I asked the server if this was a new regular thing, he said he wasn't sure and that it was new. Also, they took our $10 off coupon from the Attractions book, which made it an even better deal. They brought a pound of crab legs and a side of hushpuppies to start. Refills were in half pound increments. I felt like I got a good value after eating 2 lbs. My friend managed 2.5 lbs, which was impressive. I barely touched the hushpuppies. The crab legs were cooked well and were easy to crack. Some of them could have been cleaned off a little better before cooking, but they were still pretty easy to eat. Service on this visit was speedy and courteous. On a prior visit, it took about an hour for our food to come and our server ignored us. I'm hoping my latest visit is more emblematic of how they do business. So glad Shuckin' Shack survived the COVID shutdown especially after hearing Dock Street Oyster Bar did not. The steamed oysters are always on point. The numerous offering of hot sauces allows for some experimentation, too. The broiled scallops were flavorful, hearty, and juicy. Definitely recommend! Didn't care for the creamy, lemony sauce that accompanied. Added nothing to the scallops flavor, either. Bypass it and enjoy the natural flavor of these scallops! The crab balls were okay. They were fried well, but I would have preferred a lump crabmeat inside inside of a mashed potato-type texture. Great selection of beers on tap including locals.
