I love the food here.. Delish! BUT the VENETION WINDOW BLINDS ARE FILTHY!! Heavy coats of dust while you are eating. They need to clean those every single day. No excuse! I like this place but come on guys....that's ridiculous. read more

I've never actually sat down here but have ordered out twice. Both times, the man on the phone was *beyond* kind and extremely professional. After moving to the area, I had been looking for a place in town that would satisfy my sushi cravings. After trying a few places with mediocre to bad sushi, this place finally hit the spot. The sushi is delicious! They actually delivered to us during the snowstorm and even the delivery guy was the kindest delivery person that has ever knocked on my door. Everything we have ordered ( maki rolls, shumai, crab rangoon, and other dishes) has been fresh and delicious. The staff was exceedingly nice when we've eaten there. The delivery guy was prompt when we've ordered in. We will definitely return. For the price, it is definitely 5 stars. read more

C23 Peppery Crispy Shrimp -- Listed under "Chef's Specialties" appears to be the same as the Crispy Calamari appetizer, but with shrimp, instead of calamari. What is strange is that this dish is advertised as containing broccoli and a "garlic wine sauce", and costs 7 dollars MORE than the calamari (which was excellent, at 8 dollars). There was no broccoli and no sauce. From what I could gather of the explanation we received, the shrimp is misted with a garlic wine "sauce" before being fried. :/ The seafood soup (for 2) was a wash at 9 dollars, containing a bland broth with egg whites, a smattering of veggies, 2 shrimp, 1 scallop, 2 calamari pieces, and 4 weird, rubbery, pressed-fish patty thingies (white with hot-pink borders). Also, had to wait a half hour for it, rather than the 15 minutes I was told. Mooshi with Shrimp... I counted one tiny shrimp. If you eat in, remember to ask for silverware. Lastly, the fact that they keep a database on the customers is slightly disconcerting. Other than that, the service was good, and the dishes are tasty. read more

Food was great, all the basic Chinese appetizers were just as they should be. Beef lo mein delicious. Only gave it 4 stars because I wasn't a big fan of the Chinese chicken lettuce wraps-small portion, flavour kind of boring, and way too many of those Styrofoam like noodles that nobody really eats. Extremely poor customer service. The waitress was awful to us, didn't explain any information about the items in the menu. The default choices had ingredients which we can't eat, when we informed that to her before eating she looked at us as though she was going to hit us for asking to change something since we don't eat. I would not ever again go there. The waitress was not aware of food allergy. Or didn't even offer to check with the kitchen or manager. Just gave us a stare. Not a good place for anyone with food allergies. The worst treatment at a restaurant ever. Won't recommend to anyone. read more

Everything we got was good except for the salmon- it w as waaaah overcooked. I loved the tofu dish though, tofu was soft and good. The veggies were really good and the sesame chicken was also really good. read more

Shunju is by far the best Chinese/Japanese food in the North Andover area. I work within walking distance and my father and I go for lunch usually 2 times a week. The sushi is always very fresh (try the Rising Sun Maki - a salmon roll fried with tempura batter that has a sweet sauce and a spicy sauce) or the Shrimp Tempura Maki. The lunch combos are affordable and delicious (the sesame chicken being my favorite). The owners/hosts are hilarious and very personable. They knew our names from the beginning and always address us and many other "regulars" as soon as we walk in the door. We have never ordered a bad meal there. I highly recommend Shunju. read more

A terrific family-owned restaurant! A little hidden away but a great place to get lunch or dinner - lunch specials come with rice, soup, and appetizers, and dinner portions are generous. The staff is very friendly and will remember your name when you come back, and they do their best to accomodate special requests. I have dined here on several occasions and it is always yummy. The house special pan-fried noodles are really tasty and are full of goodies (including huge juicy shrimp!). For apps, the crab rangoons and spring rolls are good and the mai-tais are strong yet tasty. Overall, Shunju gets my vote for best Asian food in North Andover! read more

This is a good local Chinese food place to order take out and to come eat. When dining in, we also order a few sushi items.. and it's not bad. They also have a bar inside the restaurant so the locals come here to chill. I think their Chinese is not bad, but it's nothing mind blowing. The service is not bad too. Overall, we've been using this as our Chinese food option for take out a lot, and have dined in a couple of times. Nothing to rave about, but it's not a bad place. read more

My friends decided to host our bachelorette dinner there, since I was raving about the place. I have to say, i was impressed once again, it was a group of 15girls, and I expect chaos, but the service was great and everything was very systematic. The food came out same time, nothing was cold and very timing, which is incredible. They got the perfect table for our group. We were able to be semi private and not disturb other customers. The service was great, the server was very tentative, but not overbearing. It was great pre partying place, great cocktails too. love love read more

I was actually pretty psyched to try this place as I am always looking for a good sushi place- particularly on the east coast. My friend and I went for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised by the large portions. We decided to take a small step off the Japanese side and went with crab rangoon as an appetizer. It was delicious- and not greasy at all. Perfect. A little odd that we were not given appetizer plates but that was okay. The miso soup was good and we were given a pretty large serving---and I am not a big miso soup fan. The sushi came out and we were given very well sized portions- I was a little struck that we were not given chopsticks or soy sauce but had to ask for that. The sushi/maki was very very good and we were thrilled- excellent value for lunch. My friend finished her diet coke- and we waited and waited for the waitress to come around to refill and she didn't. My friend asked- do you think I have to pay for another glass of soda--do you think that is why she isn't offering? Well- we asked for another glass (which mind you was fountain soda---not a can)...and when the bill came...we had to pay for another glass of soda??? WHO STILL DOES THAT IN THIS DAY AND AGE---when it comes to fountain soda?? I guess that is a minor issue- and in the grand scheme of things- the food was fresh and delicious. Very good food. Large portions. The tuna and yellow tail on the nigiri were very fresh and over 3" long. Boston roll had twice as much salmon as rice and avocado combined. Chicken LoMein was very good and actually light (not the heavy mass you usually get). Mongolian Beef was excellent and also not as oily as most places. Much better than Bejing or Lee Chen. I happen to fall upon this place while stopping nearby at the UPS store. I was in need of some food and figured I would go into this place for some soup. As soon as I entered, I was immediately greeted by a gentleman who was sitting by the bar eating some food. I found that very polite of the place for someone to stop eating you come greet you. He asked to take my order, but since it was my first time I asked for a menu instead. He handed me the menu and went back to eating his food, but not before he told me to let him know when I was ready to order. Again, I found that polite. I sat by a chair that was nearby to scroll through their menu that was full of good options. Nevertheless, I decided to order a sushi roll sampler with wonton soup. Kept it safe since it's a new place for me. The same gentleman that was eating came to take my order and told me 15 minutes. The order took about that time or less, which is great because I was in a rush. Overall, the food was great! Both came out just like I was hoping for. Two thumbs up! read more

Shunju is the latest Chinese establishment after several changes over the years and I recently got to try it out. A sushi bar was added in the back to replace some of the seating...which was my favorite table in previous restaurants, so that was disappointing. The food is respectable but the value isn't there for me. Very small portions and with a party of 10 we had to keep ordering more as we were still hungry after a couple of appetizers, two rice plates, and three dinner plates. Nice people and decent service, but not outstanding enough to seek this one out for me. read more

The GF and I had dinner there tonight....nice ambiance and good size bar. It was not busy and we were quickly seated. We both ordered sushi appetizers and I had the chef's pan-fried noodle special. The sushi was ok, fresh, bit not especially flavorful. The noodle dish looked good but was extremely bland..it had the typical 'brown sauce' but lacked flavor. Not bad, just bland. The owner came around and told us about some specials and was pretty entertaining. There was a sign outside stating 'under new ownership' not sure if this was for Shunju or an adjacent business. read more

Shunju is TRULY a hidden gem in North Andover. Hidden? Absolutely. You may drive by the plaza that Shuju anchors but the restaurant is in the back. The ubiquitous coffee place fronts out to the street. For this I am sad, because not only are the owners and staff great and welcoming, the food is great. This is the sort of place that knows what they are doing, and whether you eat in or out, there are tasty leftovers to go. read more

The lunch menu is a great Value! The food is fresh, home made, and plentiful! You get so much, along with the doggie bag! The sushi was very fresh! Really yummy! We got orange chicken, veggie lo mein, white rice and sweet potato maki. The orange chicken should definitely be spicer more orangey but was crispy and white meat. The lomein and rice were good as was the maki. Will order again! read more

This is bad Chinese food. Sorry but nothing we had was any good and some of it was downright awful. We got a to-go order last night and nothing even resembled what it was supposed to be. They get one star for being quick and one star for being courteous and no stars for the food. General Gau's chicken was super-sweet like pancake syrup sweet, odd and inedible. The broccoli was brown and soggy, yuck. The beef was leather in disguise. The lo mein was low grade spaghetti with "chicken" that seemed to be chunks of plastic. The comedic highlight of the meal was the pan-fried noodles that are described in the menu as "Thin yellow noodle lightly pan-fried on both sides". We got a container of dry Raman noodles, I kid you not. There's traditional Chinese food, there's Americanized Chinese food but this place has created a new category: Bad Fake Chinese Impressionistic Slop for the Sensory Impaired. read more

First time with this restaurant as they have changed hands a few times since I've lived in North Andover. Read the reviews and called in my order. Jackie took my my order and was very professional and pleasant. My order arrived in less than 40 minutes and the gentleman was curtious and professional. The food was plentiful and very good. The only small comment I can make was the Spring rolls seemed pre-made, almost pre-frozen. I like Spring rolls but not these. They still get a 5 star for all of the other above comments. read more

I am part of a community theater group in the Merrimack Valley (Acting Out! Theater Company, shameless plug). I recently organized a post-opening night dinner for our cast at Shunju. From the very first phone call, the manager was so accomodating, and arranged for the restaurant to stay open late for us. He continued to be gracious when I informed him 1/2 way through the day that the group I thought would be @ 15 people turned into @ 50 people. The night of our dinner, the restaurant staff was extremely graciouis and welcoming. We have received less than gracious treatment in the past when our large group has eaten at other restaurants in the area. Best of all, the food was terrific and reasonable. Shunju acquired a whole new group of devoted customers that night. Thank you! read more

DON'T GO TO SHUNJU in North Andover, MA Walked in for Lunch today with 2 friends. Took 10 minutes to get water, at 20 min I walked up the sushi chef and asked to put 3 orders in as the waitress kept ignoring us. I asked at 40 min's if we could get the soups that come with the order. Wanton soups came lukewarm and uncooked. at 50 min I had to chase someone down for the check and ask for the food to be put into to-go containers (had to get back to work) and they did't even have our food ready yet. Explained the situation and how displeased we all were with the food and service(or complete lack of). They chased down our our food and then.. I've come two this place a couple of times and tried again last night for take out. Got a pupu platter which was over cooked and very greasy. Couldn't even eat it. Cheap Chinese products I guess. Special lomaine wasn't so special. Worst experience I've had. Through away and felt like I wasted $30. My friends and I stopped here for takeout on the way home at around 9PM tonight. My order came to $24 and some change. I handed the gentleman (who appeared to be the owner/manager) $30, but he only gave me about $3 back (you do the math) and did not give me a receipt. I asked the waitress for a receipt, but she refused to give me one. I figured there would be a receipt attached to our brown paper bag when the food came out, so I did not bother asking again. The same gentleman who took our order came back out with our food, but right before he handed us our food, he took the receipts and tossed it. I'm not complaining about a few bucks, but the principal behind it. How many people has he short changed for a profit? It adds up! Lesson: make sure you get a receipt and count your change. Customer service is lacking to say the least. read more

This place is an absolute joke of an establishment. My girlfriend and i walked into the nearly empty place last saturday night. I ordered the chicken lo mein, and the waitress clearly didn't understand english very well. But after confirming that I ordered the lo mein three or four times i figured she understood what I wanted. A little later she brought me out a plate of chow mein (which was terrible by the way) and argued with me when I told her she got my order wrong. So instead of taking my food away and bringing me what I ordered, she instead stared at me to make sure i was eating my food. And after trying to not leave a tip because the service was sub par, she forced us to leave her a tip and wouldn't let us leave without giving her 8 dollars for a tip on a 32 dollar bill (she said it was 15 percent but clearly did her math wrong. Don't go here and save your time unless you like terrible chow mein that you didnt order. read more
