Best. Earbuds. You. Can. Buy. Ever. These really are top notch (as evidenced by the price(s)). Their range is weighted more to professional products--this is what many (most?) major artists (including, but not limited to Bono) use for monitors while in concert. Pretty good selling point. I got some of the "lower end" stuff, assuming any set of earbuds in the $300 price range can be called low end, but they are towards the bottom of their product line. And no--i couldn't swing them on my own--they were a (very generous) graduation gift a number of years ago. The sound is *awesome*. They are "internal" earbuds (they actually go inside the ear canal), which some people (see e.g., Ms. K. and Laura J.) can't do. But assuming you're all right with that, you'll be richly rewarded with better sound than you could imagine from earbuds. Great highs, clear, strong mid-range, and great, brain bumping lows. My brother has had two pairs of Bose noise-canceling headphones and although I love those things, I think I'd take my Shures. They don't cancel noise, but because there is a complete seal (like a foam earplug), it blocks most of the noise from your ears anyways. They come with a wide range (six pairs?) of optional earbud pieces--rubber, foam, varying sizes, etc. so you'll be able to get close to a custom fit. Did I mention the sound is phenomenal? And they last (as something this expensive should be expected to do). Which is part of my plug--I've had these for five years now and have used them on a regular and routine (even if not (quite) daily) basis. And I've used them hard too: mountain biking, jogging, backpacking, hiking, plane trips, to the beach, etc., etc. They've held up (mostly) too. The wire/cable on one side has begun to lose its outer covering, but everything still works great. Can't recommend these any more highly. If you have the means (or a great family to get them for you as a gift), I recommend you check them out. Worth every penny. read more

I had two sets of E2G's (I bought the second when I thought I lost one). One about 2 years old, one about 9 months old. I misplaced one of the two sets in January, so I just had one...I figured it was the newer set. In April the earphones broke (torn wire on one side, no sound on other side). So I sent them in. I had no receipt, no documentation...I just sent the earphones with a filled out form that said I bought them in August 07. I a few weeks later I found my other set...turns out I broke the old set. I figured they wouldn't replace them, since they can tell the date of manufacture from the serial #. Well...this morning I got a box with a set of new Shure...whatever the replacement model # for the E2g is. Go Shure! read more

Another review regarding Shure's replacement of products under warranty. Back in October 2009, in my rush to catch a plane to Asia, I forgot to bring earphones. It was late at night, the stores were all closed, and the only thing that was selling anything was the Best Buy kiosk (kinda like a coke machine that dispenses $500 items). So I bought a pair of Shures. Problem solved, excellent sound. Flash forward one year and nine months later, and the earphones crapped out on me. To be more specific, the extension cable crapped out on me, the buds themselves were fine. The product carries a two year warranty. Best Buy was as useless as nipples on a breast plate (sorry, I've been reading "Game of Thrones"). Luckily, the company that operates the kiosk was able to give me a receipt, and I sent that and the defective item back to Shure. Two weeks later, I get a replacement cable in the mail. Earphones sound as good as ever. Nice to support a local company that makes a great product and has great service. read more

Imagine spending upwards of $120 on earbuds, with sound so spatial and bassy that you're suddenly extremely picky about any changes in nuance revolving around them. Then, sound goes out on one side, and upon looking at warranty information on the website, you're told to try and clean the sound canal. Nope, one whole wire went out. So a few emails later and a send in, and I received an invoice for a new free pair, and they were sent within a week. That for just a letter pleading for a replacement without an original receipt. How can I give less than 5 stars for that? Shure saved the audio portion of my life. I can only imagine how well they treat the big touring acts whose sound they support worldwide. read more

A great place to work if you're a musician. I have friends that work here that really enjoy working for this company. A really neat building as well - I'm curious to whether or not it is solar powered in a way...probably not... Shure mics are the best. They're worth every penny. I purchased the SE530PTH model earphones and all I can say is "Amazing". I put them in, selected a song from the album I'd been using to test headphones with, and as it started a huge smile stretched across my face. I was in utter bliss at the range of sounds that were flowing into my ear canals, I couldn't stop smiling! The thick, unmuddied (yes, I think I just made up a new word) bass, the crisp, clear detail, the little things differences that were previously unheard in my car or other inferior headsets. Wow. I was in love and I had to have them! I never thought I'd own a $500 pair of ear buds, but I got an unbelievable discount through the company I work for currently. Even at $500 they'd still be worth it though. Just pure happiness. read more

I bought a high end pair of 535 ear buds with the knowledge that shure make a product that enables me to replace a cable with a microphone so that these can be used to make calls. I've had two of these cables replaced due to bad wires braking in 6 months each time without abuse. Without a good quality microphone, expensive ear phones are useless to me. I have never heard of shure improving their design for these, so i wont buy again and their support convinced me to give up. It's all out of warranty now, but shures laziness in getting bulletproof designs in order for these necessary functions has convinced me to never consider this brand again. If they read this i hope you treat this information as an area for definite improvement. read more

I had an issue with the original pair of Shure SE-215-K that I purchased a little over a month ago at the time. There was no sound coming out from of the ear buds. I had to get the unit replaced twice (the 1st replacement they sent out eventually had the same defect within a week), but both times were painless as communication both over the phone and through e-mail with the customer service reps was friendly and straight forward. The 1st time I paid for shipping and handling to ship the defective earphones back, but they provided a prepaid mailing label the 2nd time around. read more

You can get as good of a microphone from Shure as you can get anywhere in the world... Arguably they're the best microphones in the SOUND Industry! I've used them for recording lectures, seminars, workshops, and meetings resulting in terrific sound reproduction (using wireless clip-on lavalier's & the SM series for the podium) ... a basic microphone application when compared to the musicians and recording studios who use them... Shure microphones are THE industry standard high quality products and I highly recommend them. read more

there are times when hearing outside of your own thoughts can prove to be beneficial. the gain may be of informational value, or comical worth, even. the time my friend Ellen told me about visiting her neighbor's family members who live in southern (way south) Illinois, for example, was one thing I'll never forget hearing. for her, the trip started out like any road trip might. she experienced a sense of freedom and disconnect with her hand soaring up and down as she cut roller coaster track patterns in the torrid summer air. it was July, and naturally humid. one adjusts to that sort of thick climate after time. nevertheless, the 65 mile per hour wind blowing through your hair in such elements is never a bad thing whether you're in Danville or Phuket. as it happened, she had just past dutch mills driving toward tatumville. from the 127, they turned off onto sandusky, one of those old rock roads that creates a white cloud of dust transitioning from plank pose to cobra, then on to downward dog for a full chaturanga, loose rock particle and all. the drive had turned into a mystic tunnel of foliage, shading the aphelion of July. just ahead in the distance though, there was a clearing. it was the meadow of Sandusky lane and it was quickly approaching. standing in the kitchen, leaning up against a marble countertop with a glass of wine in my hand I was giving my full attention to Ellen, who said, "and there it was. there was the trailer. it was a double wide." "a double wide?" I said. "out there in the woods, propped up on cinder blocks like you'd imagine it?" "actually, yes it was" Ellen replied. "oh, hi!" announced Amber. "we wasn't expectin ya till a little later. that's alright; we'll fire up the grill anyhow." Ellen hadn't moved a great deal past the entrance of the doorway. "I wouldn't have gone into that place either" "it wasn't that I didn't want to go in. "she is. and yes, it was beer. everyone in the house had their own cooler. they sat on them so their beer wouldn't get stolen... they steal beer from each other" Ellen and I laughed like hyenas in the Syrian desert circling a lost nomad scooping puddles of sand thinking in his head that he's discovered an oasis of cool, refreshing water. clearly, I did not have my headphones on at the time of Ellen's story. I did, however, have my E4c's on this morning at 8:16 AM when a man in an overcoat stuck his hands into the closing doors of the N Judah. I know the sound it made; I've heard it a thousand times. I could tell by the scrunching faces of people reading blindness and cat's cradle that the noise was piercing. I didn't hear it though. I had on my E4c's. Very disappointed. I bought shures $300 earbuds on amazon and in 6 months the cables came loose and there was static and one side intermittently working. Says on the packaging that shure offers a one year warranty. I send it in and they refuse to replace or repair the earbuds for less than $150! They said they could not accept my receipt because it was invalid! Wtf These overpriced earbuds won't last and don't expect them to stand by their warranty either! read more

I have to put in a review for this company and the products they make. I am a big music listener ever since I got my very first discman about 14 years ago. Well 14 years ago I was young and stupid and just used the included earphones that came with all discman/walkman/minidisc you bought and I never put a second thought about it. I started using upgraded (buying earphones separately) after the included earphones broke and started buying $30 sony earphones. I have always liked earbuds because they are snug and I do not look bigger than I already am. However, these sony buds kept falling apart after 4-5 months and I keep buyin new ones. Fast forward to 2003 and I got my very first ipod. I tried on the included earphones by Apple and they are god awful so I picked out the Sonys for $35-$40 per pair. Pretty decent quality and much more comfortable than the apples. Problem was, I used them everyday, I walked to work, use them in the office, flew 100,000 miles/year so I literally abuse them. Warranty was only 3 months and I basically break them every 3 months or so. I started reading about Shures and their earphones with a 2 year warranty. A lot of people raved about their quality and thickness of the wires so I decided to shop for them and I dropped dead when I saw the prices. Cheapest were the E2c at about $90, followed by the E3c at $170, E4c at $270 and E5c at $450. I decided to splurge and bought the E3c for $170. The quality was good, better than Sony's but not enough bass. The Sony's had more bass but it was fake bass (Sony's Mega Bass) so I thought ok perhaps this was the way music was meant to me. Time passed and before I knew it, I had worn out my earphones again. The right side did not have any volume coming out. Oh crap, another one of those lousy earphones, until I realized I had used it to for 3 years!!!! Everyday!!! At work, on the plane, at home etc etc. My warranty had ran out so I had to pay a service fee for Shure to repair it. I believe it was about $70 at that time and they called me when they received my earphones to confirm I would like to repair it. I asked if I could upgrade to the E4c by paying some extra dough and the guy while friendly, said no. Oh well. A few days later, I got a package and inside was a brand new E4c earphones!!!! They had given me a free upgrade! I tore the box open and put it on to try it. After 5 mins, there was a major disappointing look on my face. The sound was flat, there was no bass whatsoever and it plain sucked. This is horrible. So I read online again and apparently you have to break it in for about 8 hours of continuous music. Ok so I did that and when I put it on after 10 hours, it was a world of difference. Much more bass and the same natural sounds from my ipod. Beautiful and another 3 years passed and now my E4c wires are frayed so I had to send it in for repairs but I am cool now and did not want to wear those crappy Apples waiting for my Shures to be repaired. So I decided to splurge and bought the SE530 and have my E4c repaired and used as a backup :) The $350 I spent on the SE530 were worth every penny. Yes it is a pretty price to pay for an earphone. Hell, it is more expensive than my video ipod, my bb curve, and my 24 inch LCD monitor at home. But I can justify my expenditure. This will last me 3 years, I use it everyday, it provides wonderful sound isolation (no more irritating CTA announcements, and no I am not stupid enough to wear this while I am driving), keeps me focused during work, weeds out those crying babies in a plane and looks hella cool. Save your money, eat pizza, drink cheap beer, party less and buy this baby! you will not regret it! read more

Very disappointed. So much promise, so much fail. 2 sets of Shure earbuds in the past year and a half. Different price points, up to $250. The sound was great, the noise blocking perfect, but both had cable problems within months. The first one was with the extension cable - static, then cutting out one ear or the other. On the second set the insulation and then the wires themselves frayed right at the bud. I am really bad about returning things, so I just now sent the first defective pair in for warranty. Don't know what kind of warranty service I will get, but how could I give 4 or 5 stars to something that is woefully subpar in its longevity. Guess I will have to find another brand. read more

I worked at the wheeling facility for Shure as a temp for 8 months. Instead of hiring the temps permanently, they rehired their production staff and those people were let go with their severance packages. The temps were already trained in the finished goods area. So why rehire the production people? There were good people who worked there. I wouldn't recommend trying to get a job there. read more

I rarely give out 5 stars unless I really feel a business deserves it. Shure definitely gets 5 stars. I'd give more than 5 stars if Yelp allowed it. Not only do they make quality products but their customer service for repairs is probably one of the best I've ever experienced. I bought a pair of the Shure SE846s off of eBay but the original receipt was not included. The right IEM went completely dead after 4 days of usage. Since Shure specifically said that they required an original receipt for repairs, I was a bit weary about the likelihood that my product would get serviced without paying a fee. Surprisingly, no questions were asked and they repaired my product within 3 days from my IEMs being sent to when they returned to my home. All I can say is that this is probably the classiest company I've ever had the work with. Best IEM makers imo too. read more

The earbuds are grossly overpriced. They are all hype. I compared them to the apple earbuds and could detect no difference. The only difference was the price: shure = 300, apple =70. I also completely submerged my apple ones twice and when they dried out they worked just fine. I didn't need to take them back to apple (who, incidentally will take returns unlike shure). I used the headphones for jogging, like twice, and they sounded distorted and staticky ever since. I hardly imagine i sweat enough to cause them to get messed up, but they did. I bought two pairs of these. The 300 dollar ones and the 100 dollar ones and they are both unusable now, less than a year later. The cord has wiggled loose out of the earpiece on both. To put it simply, these headphones are overpriced, all-hype and prone to break. If you want to waste your money, go ahead. I tried to return the headphones and was met with still opposition.Very unfriendly and accusatory. They still haven't sent the headphones back to me yet either. read more
