    fried chicken, dark with cornbread
    Meagan R.

Small dine-in setting. The young lady who took my order at the counter was super patient and friendly while I figured out what I wanted. The fried chicken and corn bread were top notch! The chicken isn't overstated, but it's the perfect down home southern recipe which pairs perfectly with some hot sauce. The corn bread was so soft and buttery, I could barely pick it up to eat it. The greens were solid and the mac was just okay. But I will definitely be back to have more of this fried chicken and give some other entrees and sides a shot!

Hot juicy fried chicken made to order. Arrived to eat a late lunch at 3pm and everything was hot and made to order just like peak lunch or dinner time. Corn bread is delicious and Mac and cheese might be the best I've ever had. Really solid southern fried food here!

Tender, juicy, hot, delicious are the words to describe the fried chicken we had here. There was a wait on the chicken, wait is so worth it. The staff were friendly and accomodating. Place was clean.

Hot out the kitchen. Always a great lunch. Highly recommend. 10/10. Everyone on the team enjoyed everything!

Went for the pork chops with black eyed peas, cabbage, and cornbread. Everything was cooked to perfection. Taylor, who took my order, was super awesome with the customer service. This cozy little place is a solid 10 in my book.

Looking for the best fried chicken in Jacksonville? I think we found it. What I like about Shut 'Em Down is the cook to order process. Yeah, you have to wait a bit, but the wait is worth it when you get that freshly cooked, hot off the press fried chicken and then pair it with their southern style sidings. So many siding choices. We picked cabbage-rice combo and Mac-n-cheese. Both were outstanding. Still craving it and would like to come back for some more.

This is probably one of the best fried chicken I've had! We had to wait a little long for our order because everything is fresh and cooked to order but it was worth the wait. The chicken is crispy but tender and juicy on the inside and so full of flavor. The cabbage and rice and the Mac and cheese were so good! The meal also came with cornbread that was delicious! So glad we can here!

Love love loveeee this southern restaurant. It tastes very authentic so the name doesn't lie. I've ordered from here 3-4 times I believe. Every single time the order is fresh, whether it's picked up or delivered on doordash. The portions are great and filling & the value is there as well! Reasonable prices. My only complaint is the liquid of the yams are always too syrupy, but overall I rate it a 9.8/10. If you're looking for a good soul food spot in town, stop here & check them out. Wish I could hug whoever is making the corn bread & fried chicken

Ordered at the front counter and was greeted by a friendly young lady... good start. I went in planning to get the muffaleta off the specials board. They checked on it, but no luck... they were out of the cuts needed. I was pointed toward the Italian, but my buddy already grabbed that and I felt like being different. Noticed another special on the wall, a smoked brisket sandwich. Can't remember the exact name, but that's what I went with. Instead of chips or their homemade tots, I grabbed the balsamic roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Tables weren't the cleanest and were a little wobbly, but nothing deal-breaking... we made it work. Food came out pretty quick and looked solid. Flavor-wise... a little mixed. The brussel sprouts were very flaky and leafy, almost crumbled apart. You really had to work your fork to get a bite. I was picturing larger roasted halves. Sauce was fine, nothing bad, nothing special. I'd give those a 3 out of 5. The brisket sandwich was interesting. The meat was very fatty and kind of tough to chew through. Not sure if that's just the cut or the prep. I ate about three-quarters of it. It wasn't bad, just didn't hit the way I hoped. Probably still thinking about that muffaleta. Another 3 out of 5. I'd come back, no doubt... but next time I'm sticking with what they're known for. Those cheesesteaks always look great, and that's probably the move. Today was about trying something different, and I'm glad I did... even if it didn't knock my socks off.

This is one of those places that we love but haven't been to in far too long. We both tried things that were new to each of us tonight as well, which was cool. I ordered The Ole Smokie, with everything on it and choose cheddar cheese. My first thought when it was brought to the table was "oh, I'll probably have to go at this with a fork & knife" but I decided to give it a shot as intended. I'm glad I did because the bread held up surprisingly well! As far as ingredients go, the brisket was good and smokey. There was a good mix of everything else and more than enough cheddar. My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. She also had a choice of cheese and she picked whizz. The thing that separates this from what people might expect is that it's chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. She said that's not a bad thing at all, just a change from what some might exoect. She thought it was a welcome change. She liked their cheese whizz a lot and liked the roll as always, so she was glad she tried it. It's worth noting that both sandwiches were big enough that we both took half of each home. I didn't get the name of the two people that were working there this evening, but I'd still like to give then a shout out. They were both incredibly patient with the customers ahead of us and they didn't make us feel rushed even though we were there fairly close to the time they close on Friday evenings. Another good visit to Clarke Bros. Here's hoping it doesn't take us so long to get back here again for the next visit!

So we came the weekend of Jazz fest. We were out on Sunday and I was like hey let's go to Chancho King and try their ceviche. I wasn't a big fan of their ceviche I prefer it from a Mexican restaurant. However the plantain chips were a hit! I would absolutely go back and get those it was a nice snack I'm interested to see how they would taste with some guacamole I need to do that! And I'm an oyster loving girl-lala so I got 2 little cities oysters and they were nice and fresh. The two times I have been here the service has been great. For a Sunday it is super busy and the seating on the inside quickly feels up but I was so glad to be inside because the heat was too much. Nevertheless I will be back to try to more items from their menu.

There was a decent amount of parking which I was surprised about given the location. The line was to the door when we arrived. The line went pretty quickly, about 5 minutes to get our order taken. I opted for the Hurricane burger, my son opted for a basic cheeseburger with only pickle. We also ordered fries and onion rings for the table. Our food took about 15 minutes, during this time, we saw a tray of fries sitting in the window. We were hoping it was not our order as they would be cold by the time our burgers were completed, however they called us and sure enough it was ours. We touched the fries and they were very cold. We told the employee, who knew the issue and they remade the fries. I'm glad they didn't make an issue about it, but also disappointing because the employees thought it was okay to even serve cold fries. The burgers were fantastic. The hurricane had so much flavor, I wouldn't hesitate to order it again. The onion rings were good and the fries were decent. My son loved his burger and the rest of the family enjoyed their meal. It was a nice lunch and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

The restaurant is beautifully set up and a great vibe. We had Caylee as our server and she was so friendly and bubbly! We started off with some drinks and they were all delicious and had a fresh taste. For appetizers, we ordered family style and got the carpaccio, sourdough focaccia, and the 'nduja arancini with a goat cheese crema. The carpaccio and arancini were my favs but all were perfection! We also did some family style for the mains and got caesar salad, rigatoni bolognese, chicken 'nduja, and carrots with whipped ricotta. The rigatoni bolognese was sooo yummy! We saw the bartenders experimenting with drinks and asked which one it was that looked so good - I believe they called it a burrata cocktail or something but it was actually so good! They brought it out to us to try even though it's not on the menu yet, which was so kind. For desserts, we got the olive oil cake and tiramisu. Tiramisu is my all-time favorite dessert so I thought I was going to like that one better but I actually loved the olive oil cake so much. It was my first time having an olive oil cake but both of the desserts were heavenly. We also got to try some of their homemade chocolate that they brought out to us and those were all delicious as well with different flavors. I hope to come back soon for a pasta making class or cocktail making class or just dinner and drinks. This is probably one of my favorite spots in Jacksonville now!

We sat outside as I had my service dog with me and I had previously been told that she was NOT allowed inside, doesn't matter that as a service dog she should be allowed anywhere I go. The waiter gave me a lot of guff because I put her on my lap when I was finished eating so that she would stop whining for food (which was sub par). The waiter told me to read the rules that stated that dogs are not allowed on laps (there is no such rule). The waiter then proceeded to tell me that he knows others who live in my building who have told him that we have been thrown out of other places (gossipy cashier who pretends to be a friend). Anyway, the food is nothing to write home about. The tables are never wiped down between customers. This particular waiter and his manager are downright rude and irritating. There are so many other places to go, including the European Street Cafe in San Marco where they are much friendlier. My companion told me that her late husband had trouble with this waiter, too. Skip it. There are just too many good places to go to bother with these folks who apparently get up on the wrong side of their beds all too frequently. And they are the only place in town with patio rules!!! Next, they will ban children.
