Great Burger, Great Prices, Friendly Staff - This place is small, and it doesn't feel clean, but they have a great burger and fry combo !!! There's a sign in the men's bathroom that say's not to flush toilet paper !!! So what do you do with it ??? Drop it on the floor or in the trash can ??? Shuttle Burgers and Cookies and Dip are located next to a popular gas station, which is a really cool idea, and the burgers are actually tasty and juicy and not too expensive, especially for those served in strip mall next to a gas station, but no matter where they were or how much they cost, they'd be good. So yeah, the cookies and burgers are good and that's what we came here for. Last time we came here it was burgers, not sure if cookies are still on offer. I stopped in at Shuttle Burgers last night for a quick dinner. They're mainly a lunch place and close at 6:30 on weekdays, but even though it was almost six they still fed me and even let me eat inside. I ordered the daily burger special, which was a Swiss burger. I asked to add grilled mushrooms and no other toppings save mustard and lettuce. The burger was prepared just as I asked and the patty was fresh and cooked to perfection. It was delicious! The special also included a basket of fries, which looked like homemade with potato skin still visible on many of them; they were excellent as well. I also had a big glass of iced tea. I've been eating at Shuttle Burgers, off and on, for about 25 years now; they're a neighborhood institution. For dessert they offer generous slices of cake with icing, a different flavor every day of the week. The place isn't much to look at being in a strip center next to the Valero station, but the interior is themed after space (hence 'Shuttle') and aviation, being hard by Hobby Airport. I was actually introduced to them by a flight instructor in 1997. In addition to burgers they also offer a daily plate lunch special which is consistently good. I'll be back! read more

Ordered multiple items to get an idea if this was going to be my new burger joint and everything was pretty much disgusting. The mushroom swiss burger had soggy black bread and lettuce, tomato mayo on one bun and mustard on the other. Never ever had a mushroom swiss like that nor did i order it that way. Fried mushrooms were cooked in old grease and tasted that way. Fries had no flavor. I won't be going back. read more

I have had Shuttle Burger may be less than 10 times in the last 20 years and I remember each visit like the last. Its an instant blast of nostalgia with the obvious decoration to "Space Houston" and having pictures along with shuttle space missions memorabilia everywhere. Their menu is pretty minimal and has an interesting signature burger item called "Shuttle Burger" which included a grilled pineapple slice! Shuttle Burger lies just south of Hobby Airport, the smaller of our two airports, in an area that is forever grasping for its identity since the necessary buffer area around the airport keeps one side of each major street devoid of development.* The décor is an eclectic mix of being at the end of a downtrodden strip center, outfitted with many inflatable space shuttles and aircraft, framed pictures and posters of various NASA space exploration missions, as well as signed photographs of astronauts. Since we're not close to the Johnson Space Center in Clear Lake, this made for an odd melange. Did not have the eponymous Shuttle Burger, which is a regular burger with pineapple. Opted for the daily special Cheddar Burger Basket ($5.83 with tax), which comes with fries and a large drink (32 ounces). All burgers come dressed with mustard, mayo, lettuce, onions, and pickles but I asked them to hold the mayo. No slimy emulsion for me. The patty was disappointing since it was a pre-made and, most likely, pre-frozen. I was crestfallen to see the tell-tale puck shape and almost tossed the burger back in its basket as I cried: "Why me? Why anyone?" [This Nancy Kerrigan moment brought to you by Ore-Ida.] The cheddar added a fetid aspect to it. The fries were a bit limp and indicating that the oil wasn't hot enough. Serviceable yet the best feature to the basket, though. Service was prompt and cheery. They took my order quickly and had the meal turned out in less than 5 minutes. The staff made the rounds through the room periodically to clear baskets and wipe down the tables. Customers looked like a mix of airport employees and high school kids. Since I'm not an extra-terrestrial [I'm from Earth, y'all], I'd skip this place and head to either Little Bitty Burger Barn or Bellaire Broiler Burger instead for my cow fix. * Did you know that, at Hobby, you can drive up to a spot called the "Aircraft Viewing Area" and get an unobstructed view of takeoffs and landings? Shh. Don't let the terrorists find out. They may put a U-haul out there and one not filled with Grandma's antiques. I'll tell you where but you better promise to not be a terrorist. read more

Was looking to have some lunch delivered and decided to give this place a try. I'm glad I did. Great home-style burgers were fresh and tasty. I like that they offer cheddar, American, and Swiss cheese options. They have a nice choice of sides as well. The homemade fries were especially good. Everything you'd expect from a classic burger joint. I'll definitely order from here again soon and look forward to trying some of the other items on the menu. read more

Went to Shuttle Burger for the first time last week. I went an hour before they were supposed to close. Upon arrival, I was the only customer and they were already cleaning up for the night. I said hello as I walked in, and was not acknowledged. I wasn't sure where exactly to go to order, and they weren't helpful. Someone actually moved from behind the cabinet to allow the other lady to mop, meanwhile I was still "lost." The lady told me to order ahead of time next time (but I want my food to be fresh & hot). I was not impressed by the burgers. The cheese was a single slice of Velvetta/Kraft, and didn't cover the patty - it was about 1/2 the size of the meat. The meat was a little dry, and not all that amazing. The fries were homemade and had good seasoning, however. For the price, you can get better quality at Whataburger. I don't plan on returning or spreading the (positive) word. read more

I really wanted to like shuttle more than I did. I generally go for the mom-and-pop places over the chain restaurants. This was pretty average even compared to the chain places. The good: The fries look like they are cut in-house. They are tasty and I did enjoy them. The only bad thing that I can say is that some of the fries were a little under cooked. Others were crisp and perfect. The Bad: I had the jalapeno cheese burger. This comes with a slightly toasted white industrial burger bun. The meat looks like is was hand formed,(Good) However the meat was dry, overcooked, very chewy and tasted mostly of burned grease. It was so dry that the only thing that helped it were the toppings and a swallow of soda to wash it down. The "cheese" was a slice of yellow processed cheese food that they did not even bother to melt (so I just pulled it off and threw it away). Its OK but don't expect much! read more

I am support of mom and pop shops and heard so much about this place from other colleagues. Based on their raving reviews of Shuttle Burger, I so wanted to like this place. I just couldn't. Maybe I came on a bad day, I don't know, but the burgers were not up to par like their reviews. My cheeseburger was a bit bland and the american cheese wasn't appeared to have been thrown on after the meat patty was placed on the bun. I like my American Cheese sitting on top of my meat patty, while on the grill before it's placed on the bun. This was not the case. The fries were crispy, but they lacked flavor as well. There was a massive overload of lettuce in my burger, that I thought, this was a lettuce wrap meal instead. The young lady at the counter was very friendly and greeted us warmly when we entered and left. Everyone there was overall friendly. The place was clean and the smell was enticing. Ok another burger place. Yes, it's a basic burger and all their other menu items are basic as well. Eaten here quite a few times over the years, mostly to go. Don't expect anything fancy here either in decor or food. The Shuttle motif is aged now as America no longer had the Shuttle program. The Shuttle decorations are aged also and by the looks of it they have not been cleaned in many years. Perhaps they just don't have a ladder. BTW, don't expect much in customer service either. I tried to order a combo fries and onion rings with my cheeseburger all I got was "no" from the createn behind the counter. I kept asking why and stated I was willing to pay an up charge. "No, no,no" was all I got. I asked why and was told. His words, we did that once and the customer complained there was not enough onion rings. Once? Oh well I won't be going back there are way better burgers in the area with combo o rings and fries. read more

Alright, so this has been a long time coming. I have moved to California since growing up and eating here all the time with my parents. Every single time I visit Houston, this is one of the first places I go. This place has THE BEST BURGER IN TEXAS. I get the double cheeseburger with no tomatoes. It's mind blowing. I could curl up in a ball and live in this burger it's so amazing. The fries are incredible as well, crisp and delicious. I'm REALLY sad to see this place only has 3 reviews. Shuttle burger is located at the end cap of a strip center who's parking lot needs to be redone or repaved. When you enter shuttle burger, it has not been remodel since the 1980's. The menu is on the wall. Some of them are hand written. Good amount of choices to choose from. The money in the restaurant is spent in the the back. The burger are good. I miss this place with a passion!! I love "dives" with heart, and this is one of the best little secrets in Houston. All the WOMEN who work there take the job of serving food seriously and make everything with diligence and a touch of love!
