Small shop with nice workers! We came to celebrate a birthday and they put together a few tables for 10 of us. I really enjoyed the garlic noodles and nan gyi thoke. The tofu and tea leaf salads both had a spicy kick. The Rhankine noodle soup was hearty! The falooda had tons of jelly, ice cream, and rose flavor. They also helped bring out new plates and light the candle for the birthday cake. Bathrooms were very clean! It gets very chilly since the back door was open and it's Daly City, so be sure to bring a jacket!

The most authentic Burmese food in the bay!!! This place has everything I've been looking for my entire immigrant life in the US. Tohu thote tastes like the food cart at bogyoke market in Yangon. Rice salad tastes like the one I had in high school canteen. Everything tastes amazing and brought me back home :) I've gone there way too many times, and i forgot to take good pics every time because I inhaled the food asap. Service is great but rush hour can be hectic as usual and you'd have to wait a bit to order. It's a family run business and the restaurant feels cozy and welcoming.

Yay a positive Burmese cuisine experience in Daly City! Let's talk about it! Shwe Yankin is a new Burmese restaurant in daly city located at St. Francis Square. Their food is amazing! Order the Sweet Mango Salad, it's mango salad w/ an asian twist. Fav dish here. For the main course, we decided to go with their famous Burmese chicken potato curry w/ coconut rice. It sound basic, but the spices of the curry and tenderness of the chicken say otherwise. You can have this w.o rice because it has potatoes, but the coconut rice is an excellent choice as a side to pair with it. The fried chick pea tofu is also a must try. It's not tofu, it's chick pea...and the consistency of the appetizer is on point. Not oily, not bland. Perfect All in all, this place is a great alternative to the regular asian food selections here in daly city. We enjoyed their foods, come check them out.

My family is from Burma / Myanmar, and after eating their food, it definitely felt like home to me. Their dishes aren't overly dressed with many ingredients / seasoning like some restaurants trying so hard on flavors. They are pure & authentic as if mom was cooking for you. Plus, the prices are way better than any place I've seen. Portions might not seem a lot, but honestly I appreciate it bc i dont want too much of one thing & it lets us enjoy many dishes. The place also feels small staff like it's run by a family, so be sure to be patient with the service when dining in!

We just got food to go today. Wonderful family ran business. Authentic flavors. Great prices and portions. Nice addition to this strip mall that is otherwise dead.

I have just returned home from; I can't even call it a meal! I am shocked that the owners pass this off for the prices they charge. This, without a doubt, is hands-down the absolute worst meal I have had in decades, yes, decades! I'm not even angry; I'm too shocked to be angry. Just looking at the presentation, I knew it would not be too good. The website photos are stages because they don't serve their dishes like that(look at my photos) 1. The curry beef didn't even taste like curry because there was no curry it was drowning in old grease with enough chili spice to make even Texas Chili embarrassed. 2. The Braised Pork is overcooked to be on par with sheetrock and bathing in the Dead Sea of fat, with no flavor whatsoever. 3. The Mango salad...forget about it! This will date me; it truly tasted like they sprinkled the top with Dust-of-Chalk, again, no flavor. This is an abysmal place to think you will be having a meal. The pot of hot waterfront tea had a very strong taste of soap. To add insult to injury, they literally force you to tip, giving you 3 choices 15%, 20%; 25% For this, I was robbed of $45+ Be good to your taste buds and your wallet; stay away from this place.

Food was good but service was slow. Were seated right away since its not crowded. Took sometime for the menu to come and took longer for them to take our orders. We even had to call them to tell them we're ready to order. Gave us ONE plate and utensils for 4. Are we expected to share in one plate here!?!?? Just confused. Obviously, I had to ask for more plates. Place was clean. Some dishes we had was spicy so be cautious. Its good spicy though. Just wish they do better next time with service.

Came to this restaurant after a long day at school. I ordered Nan Gyi Thoke (Chicken) and it arrived to the table very quickly. The service was great and the restaurant gives off great vibes, reminding me of Myanmar.

Real authentic burmese food. Feels like you're eating in Myanmar. Very delicious and affordable price. The service is really great too. Definitely should be given a try.

    Shan Noodles
    Robert G.

Service is good. Portions vs. prices were better than average for the Bay Area. Orders were pretty quick though I went when few other customers were there. Servers spoke English (and apparently Burmese) and answered questions about ingredients. The Shan Noodles stood out among several dishes as the most memorable. In the parking lot at night every time I go to this restaurant some young gentlemen of shall we say a quasi-menacing stature gather and pretend to drink water while listening to music from the best car's speakers in their "club." I mention this because I don't think you should feel threatened if you see them. They might enjoy feeling like they are menacing but so far I haven't seen them bother anyone in the parking lot. But too bad for that little strip mall because menacing boom speaker tribes in the parking lot won't attract the larger number of customers that the new owners of Shwe Yankin may want. Don't just sit there -- give it a try!

Burmese dessert So delicious 100% will come back for this

They are very friendly. When they bring the food come with a smile and always hungry to help you. Very nice to see Burmese culture again. Every food has different plate shapes and different styles and different designs Always looking so good and beautiful Finally, the food is so good and so yummy By the way a lot of parking space too I will come back again Recommend it Go there and check it out

I can't judge how authentic the food is since this is my first time trying Burmese food... but it tasted really good. We ordered: - Burmese tea leaf salads (classic Burmese dish!) - Seafood cake curry with vegetables (okra) - Chin Boung Kyor - sour leaf cooked with shrimp, bamboo, and chili, and fish sauce Every dish complimented each other. We were so happy they all had a distinct taste. The tea leaf salad had a good balance of bitter aroma and sweetness from other vegetables. Topping it with the crunch from all the different nuts - it was so satisfying to eat. The Burmese seafood cake curry is on the lighter end similar to Thai curry and not creamy like the Indian curry. Every ingredient is packed with flavor. It reminded me of a laksa. The sour leaf stir fried vegetables is so unique! I've never had this flavor profile before so it was so refreshing to try. The leaf and the bamboo are soft, it almost melts in your mouth. I felt healthy after this meal. It wasn't overly greasy or heavy. All the dishes we were able to ask them to make it mild as well since my partner can't tolerate spicy food. There were street parking as well as plenty of neighborhood parking around the area. No wait time either on a Sunday evening.

Every bite has something going on. Crunchy, tangy, salty, fresh, slightly funky, and insanely flavorful. Nothing feels heavy or overdressed, and the cabbage keeps the whole thing crisp from beginning to end. I don't normally get excited enough about a salad to write a review about it, but this one deserves it. Absolutely phenomenal. Order the green tea leaf salad.

I have absolutely no issue with tipping. What I have an issue with is quietly adding gratuity to a three-person lunch bill without clearly telling the customer. Had I not carefully reviewed the bill, it would have been very easy to add another tip on top of the gratuity already charged. What makes this even stranger is that I have dined here with my husband before and this never happened. This time, without him, gratuity was added automatically. I don't know why we were treated differently, and I won't speculate about the reason--but the inconsistency made me extremely uncomfortable. If automatic gratuity for a party of three is Mingalaba's standard policy, it should be clearly disclosed and consistently applied. If it isn't, then I think customers deserve an explanation for why it was added to our bill. Ladies, especially--check your bill before you tip.

There are so many amazing dishes but I would really recommend coming with a group and experiencing this spot family style. That's the way to do it. Parking can be tough so it's not a bad idea to take alternative transit options. Also this spot can be super packed at popular dinner and lunch hours like on the weekend. For the salads I highly recommend the tea leaf salad especially if you've never had it before. It's quite unique. The mango salad is quite good too with the unripen mangos so it isn't super sweet. It has a zesty dressing. The rainbow salad is good but it's more like a cold noodle dish and less greens so depends on what you are looking for. The samusa soup is good! The coconut chicken soup and noodle dishes used to be my favorite thing on the menu. But now it's a little to heavy, creamy, and rich for me. I would recommend sharing this one because it's so tasty. I love their coconut rice great with any of their curries or to complement the protein dishes. The garlic noodles don't wow me but they're good and great to go with a meal. The sesame chicken is good and tangy but it is breaded chicken. So depends on if you are up for that. The chili lamb is super good and so is the beef curry. They have a rice dish with chicken and shrimp that is good too. If you are okay with sweet things the mango chicken is good. And then they have some spicy dishes that are good if you like the spice. I don't love their green beans which is sad because I usually like this style of green beans which. They're a little spicy for my taste but maybe that's exactly what you are looking for. The only time she checked on us was about a minute after the food arrived, when everyone had just started serving themselves. After that, she never came back. We ended up waiting quite a while for the check, and the person at the front ended up helping us. As for the food, it was honestly pretty average. I think there are better Burmese options in the Bay Area now. 3/5 - Roti The dipping sauce lacked flavor, and the roti tasted like it wasn't made fresh. It was hard on the outside and arrived about a minute after ordering. 3/5 - Garlic Noodles with Chicken The noodles were thick and somewhat bland. They weren't served very hot, and the chicken was shredded rather than the style I expected. 3/5 - Chicken Basil Stir Fry It was saucy, but the flavors were muted and didn't stand out. Overall, this location felt like it may have been better in the past. Between the disappointing food and forgettable service, it wasn't a memorable experience. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars and would likely try other Burmese restaurants before returning.

While folks loved to rave about Burma Superstar, I came here for its more homey and community feel. Recently, it looks like they got recognition from James Beard, which changed the population who came here. Since I wanted it to stay around longer, I don't mind. Overall, the food is very good. It has more authentic items like the Burmese Fish Chowder or Tea Leaf salads, as well as Thai and Chinese style Asian food. On warm days you can choose some of the lighter fare and on cold days, there's warm and comforting choices. What soured my last experience was the initial staff. I came in the early evening, with a service dog, and the staff who greeted me was noticeably uncomfortable. They immediately asked if I could sit outside, while gesturing toward the dog. Since it was a cold night, I asked to be seated inside. The staff consulted with 2 other staff members, specifically about the dog, until another staff came to inform me that all inside tables were reserved. The restaurant was half empty. I informed them under ADA, I can't be treated differently due to the dog, but they vehemently insisted there were reservations. Rather than argue, we agreed to be outside in the cold. When I began to sit at one of the outside tables, they insisted I move to another table in the corner. It felt very much like I was being treated differently. After we sat down, the service was quick. I've never had such a fast meal at a sit-down restaurant - we were in/out in 45 minutes. While we were eating, I saw multiple people go in and get seated inside. In fact, for the majority of the time we ate, the people arriving were seated immediately. I could give them the benefit of the doubt that these were all reservations, if I didn't clearly hear their staff ask how many people were in their party. If they had a reservation, why would that question be needed? Further, because we were seated outside, I kept having to be mindful of people walking their pet dogs and potential aggression toward the service dog. This happened multiple times as people were doing their evening dog walks. The sad thing is that I would have considered this place a 5-star rating were it not for the first interaction with staff. The food was great (as always). The service was quick. And despite us being outside, they came and checked in with us many times. First impressions are very hard to overcome, and the feeling of being unwanted never left me as I dined. In hindsight, I really should have just left.

Everything we ordered was delicious, and finding a restaurant that both I AND my kids are this excited about is always a win. We will absolutely be back. Easily a 10/10!

We've had more authentic Burmese cuisine in SF but this is fine for Palo Alto. Service was good and attentive. We had: Salt and pepper tofu Palata with vegetarian curry 6 piece samosas (good) Tea leaf salad (disappointing) Fiery tofu and vegetables Eggplant and Garlic (good) Jasmine rice Coconut rice Garlic noodles, bbq pork Chicken Home style fried rice (ok) Lamb Kebat (good) Lamb wok fried with tofu Steamed vegetables (mostly cabbage with sliced carrots & broccoli) Beef curry (good tender chunks of beef but the curry didn't taste like curry). Cocktail drinks are pretty good but just know that some drinks are small for the price. The best drink is the coconut one with coconut rum. We had mango ice cream for dessert which was a very generous portion but the ice cream was on the icy side and not as creamy as I hoped. It tasted decently good though.

Unfortunately, there were problems with every dish: 1. Extremely small portions: The basil chicken and mango chicken portions were ridiculously small. Around 80% of the container was just onions, and the containers were only about 70% full. For the price, this is unacceptable. 2. Almost no chicken in the garlic noodles: The garlic noodles had literally only two tiny pieces of chicken. I cannot believe I paid almost $3 extra to substitute pork with chicken and received basically no chicken at all. 3. Unbelievably salty: Both the garlic noodles and basil chicken were so salty that they were inedible. I had to rinse them with water five times, and then re-cook them myself just to make them edible. I've never had to do this with takeout before. The food wasn't just disappointing in terms of flavor and portion size--the biggest issue is that it feels like the restaurant is being extremely stingy while still charging fairly high prices. Poor portions, excessive salt, and very little meat. Definitely not worth the price, and I would not order from here again.

You walk in hungry and leave happy and satisfied. The food is seriously so good. Their roasted garlic noodles (you can get it dry or as a soup) are amazing, and the chicken curry is another favorite. Everything tastes fresh and you can actually taste the ingredients, not just the seasoning. The dining area is small, quaint, and has such a cozy feel. The service is always warm and welcoming. One of those hidden gems that just feels special. Great food, affordable prices, and a place you'll want to keep coming back to.

Food here is great! But there are other things that stop me from coming back…read more I've tried most of the curries and a good amount of appetizers and other dishes. My favorite is the coconut curry chicken noodle soup! As amazing as delicious as the food was, a lot of it is pretty oily, esp the curries. I've had to scoop out spoonfuls of oil. Or when I take home left overs, I will put it in the fridge for the oil/fat to solidify and then scoop it out. Tealeaf salad is one of my favorite salads of all time but, it is a hit or miss - sometimes it's on point but a few times have been too salty. Over the years, it has gotten painfully expensive for the portion sizes they serve. Some dishes even cost more, but sides were taken out. You basically are paying more for your dish, but for less food than before the price increase. Tealeaf salad is now a whomping $17!!! In the 3 years I've been coming here, there have been 2-3 price increases. As much as I loved coming here, sadly, I do not think that it is worth it anymore.
