    A5. Tea Leaf Salad (vegan)
    Rucha S.

Ordered a to-go tea leaf salad (~$21 with tax) and was really disappointed. It was extremely oily and overloaded with hard crunchy bits that felt like biting into stones in every bite. The texture was unpleasant and the flavor wasn't anything special. Definitely not worth the price.

Excellent authentic, homestyle cooking prevails at this local, family-run Burmese spot. Please put it in your weekly rotation immediately so you can have the coconut chicken noodle soup, tea leaf salad, and other delicious specialties in your life!

Inside seating. About 9 tables of 4 seats.

Very good authentic and homestyle Burmese food. Cozy casual eatery located in a small shopping plaza at the NW corner intersection of Moraine St and Thornton Ave. They seem to currently have specially priced Bento box lunch meals for about $18 to $20. Caveat is that you have to order a minimum of 2 Bentos for this deal. It comes with choice of entree/protein with rice, tea leaf salad, and parboiled mustard greens. The entrees range from various curries or braised/steamed dishes. We opted for 2 bentos. One was the "steamed" fish (which is more like a braised/stewed dish). They use Amberjack for this dish. The second bento choice was the chicken and potato curry (cubed chicken breast meat with fried potatoes in a mild red curry sauce). They bring out tap water for you but I added palm juice, which is really just a glass bottle of sweetened palm coconut water. It went really well with my food. I really liked the steamed/braised Amberjack fish dish too. It was stewed in a tomato-based, mild red curry paste marinade. Reminded me of a less spicy version of a Vietnamese dish that my grandmother used to make all the time and which I don't see served in any restaurants around the bay. It was a delicious Burmese rendition and the tea leaf salad was really nice. Salad had the right amount of seasoning and dressing and the chiffonade cabbage leaves, fermented tea leaves, with roasted mung beans and peanuts, sesame seeds, and dried shrimp flakes, added a nice and fresh crunch to the meal. Mustard greens were simply parboiled and had their natural mild bitter taste, which went well with the fish and steamed jasmine rice. I would definitely get this again. They also sell the steamed/braised Amberjack a la carte for $8. I had a taste of the chicken curry with potato bento dish and really liked that as well. Burmese curry doesn't seem as spicy compared to Thai or Indian curries. I would definitely come back to this family restaurant to try their other dishes, such as the beef and lamb curry, which came highly recommended by our server. All in all I'd say that Kyain Kyain is a solid and tasty restaurant serving authentic comfort/home-style Burmese food. I even like this better than Burma Superstar. Inside seating has about 9 tables of 4. Note: if your meal total is under $50 and you use credit card to pay, there is a $0.25 surcharge. Service was prompt and our server kindly explained all the dishes to us before we made our choice.

A Hidden Gem for Burmese Cuisine! This was my first experience at a Burmese restaurant, and it absolutely delivered! I tried a coconut milk-based curry that was rich, creamy, and layered with flavor. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff were kind enough to walk me through the menu, which I really appreciated as a first-timer to Burmese food. Whether you're a Burmese food newbie like me or a seasoned fan, this spot feels like the real deal. Definitely recommend it if you're craving something authentic.

It was my first time dining at Kyain Kyain and it was such a great experience! Such a warm, welcoming, and friendly spot with flavorful dishes. Absolutely loved their tea leaf salad! For those who haven't had it before it's a warm, crunchy, nutty, savory, and umami dish. I've had this salad once before at a different establishment and I have to say I love this one so much more! The tomatoes add some extra freshness to the dish. The chicken curry was tender and paired so well with the paratha and pickled cucumber and radish. Shared both with a friend and we were stuffed. Interior had a homey charm. Highly recommend this spot!

10/10 - tea leaf salad 10/10 - beef curry with yellow rice 9/10 - parata 8.5/10 - fish noodle soup 8.5/10 - samosa Kyain Kyain has been a longtime Fremont staple that provides the best tea leaf salad in the Bay Area. The restaurant is small and cozy vibe with quick service! Would highly recommend this place if you've never tried Burmese cuisine before.

I haven't had Burmese food in a really long time. We came here on a day where it was super rainy. It was easy to find parking. There weren't very many people inside, one other table. I think this was due to the heavy rain rather than their food. We were seated and they brought menus and water over very quickly. I had the chicken noodle soup as I was looking for something soupy in the rain as well as something light. Pretty large portions. My boyfriend had the yellow rice with chicken curry. Everything was super flavorful and affordable. My boyfriend needed to take the rest of his meal to go. Luckily all the food came dished out in to-go containers anyway (except the noodle soup). Will definitely return one day, though Fremont is a bit of a drive for us.

Delicious , hot, freshly made food and friendly staff!. Been here a while ago but this is my first time returning.

Curries were microwaved as I had one piece of meat piping hot while the other pieces were room temperature. Very greasy and lacks any depth of flavor. Noodles overcooked to mush, and proteins were extremely salty and dry like chalk. Soup is ok, a little salty. Yellow rice is okay as well.

I met up with my non-vegan best friend, and we both loved our meals. We shared two vegan appetizers and each got our own entree. Here's what we ordered: Mango Mojito, Vegan Thai Tea, Roti Curry, Vegan Crispy Eggplant Strips, Vegan Shrimp Laksa Noodle Soup, and Premium BBQ Combo. The presentation of our dishes was on point, and the portions were generous. Everything I tried was super flavorful and delicious. The curry sauce for the roti was incredible, and the breading on the crispy eggplant was really flavorful and tasty, though I was a bit surprised by the ketchup on top. Next time, I'd ask for the ketchup on the side. The laksa noodle soup broth had an amazing depth of flavor. I didn't try the mango mojito or BBQ combo, but my friend said she absolutely loved them! Highly recommend checking this place out; we're definitely going back to try more things!

The Roti was crisp, but still had a nice chew to it and was not too oily!
